I`m an indigenous Swiss person and if you think it is over-glamorized it`s because outsiders tend to do that. I am certainly not depressed, i love living here, i have lived in Sydney, Australia for a few years but came back here in 2008. We Swiss know our country is expensive, we don`t like higher prices either, but at the same time we have good services, a good health system etc and those things cost money. There is more than one reason why it is expensive here. Zurich is the place where people earn the most, the cost of things there are relative to what they earn, i live in the east and properties cost less than Zurich and other things are cheaper too. Our VAT is the lowest in Europe. As for xenophobia, that`s something that every country has, that is not unique to one country alone. When i lived in Australia, Australians were no less xenophobic especially when it came to Southern Europeans and Asians. Just because there are some people like that it doesn`t mean the whole country is the same, i have friends here from different countries and i don`t care what skin colour they have, a person`s character is more important. I`m sure where you are from that there are people too who are xenophobic, no country is perfect. Just remember that.
@@ilovesuisse1 Sorry mate, but in Switzerland people are very xenophobic, it starts on the job market and ends in people being super closed-off when you are not speaking the local dialect. Its the way it is. You cant judge it as you arent a foreigner in Switzerland. Its the WORST country I have ever been to. People think they are polite, but Swiss are the most arrogant people I have EVER met in my life. They can think about them whatever they want to, they think they are the best in Europe and nothing is better than Switzerland, that everyone wants to come there, its just not true. Your comment reflect that Swiss people arent able to look at all the cons of their country because there are many and a lot of people move away from Switzerland due to these cons. Dont pretend that all is good in your country, its NOT, so be a little more self-critical. I have no reason to ever come back to Switzerland. To be successful in Switzerland as an expat you have to be young and healthy, to be a professionist in certain specific fields that are in high demand, be able to speak several languages and finally to be able to work like crazy, pay taxes, insurances and don't be a social problem.
