This guy is the best at talking during all of his test drives. He consistently holds the conversation / dialog without effort while still adding value the entire time. No matter how much practice I have, I'd still have awkward silence moments. It's truly a skill to admire.

I just completed a 5,531 mile US road trip in my 2021 Model 3 SR+
Over 13 days of driving (July 10 through July 31, 2022, with time in Kentucky) from Sacramento CA to Louisville KY and back (with numerous side trips), I drove nearly half what I drive in a year.
Shortest daily distance ~300 miles. Longest drive in a day: 650+ miles. Average daily drive ~425 miles.
The final analysis: Wow. This is definitely a road warrior vehicle, despite so-called “conventional wisdom.”
I am still plugging in metrics and numbers, but I estimate about 60 (57 exactly) charging stops. In all those stops, I only had ONE 5 minute wait to plug in, at Glenwood Springs, CO. One. For 5 minutes. I’ve waited longer in a grocery store line. And that was a small charging station on a major interstate.
I drove through and charged in major cities (LA, Amarillo, OK City, Little Rock, Memphis, Nashville, St. Louis, Kansas City, Denver, Salt Lake City) and many small towns and wide spots in the road. 72 kW or 250 kW.
Typically, I was either the only one there or one of two Teslas. My typical stop was 20-25 minutes. Enough time to have a short walk about, use the bathroom, grab a bottle of water and snack, text family, and then get back on the road (these timely breaks, and the awesome auto pilot, assured I’d be rested and relaxed, even after many hours of travel).
I charged on weekdays, weekends, rush hour, nighttime, huge supercharger (50+) or small (4), on the interstate or off some small blue highway… I drove and charged through them all. No cherry picking. (Consider also the local catastrophic climate issues in Kentucky and St. Louis during my trip home, July 26-31.)
~60 (57) superchargers. 6,000 (5,531) miles. 13 days of driving. In July, 2022. One wait. 5 minutes. Starbucks line? Bank lines? Costco gas lines? Holding on the phone? 5 minutes is a piece of cake!! And it was once, out of 57 charging stations.
And 5,531 miles of supercharging cost me ~$600.00. ($522.00, actually.) More than charging at home. But far less than the ICE equivalent (2021 330i, RWD BMW), of $900+ at ~33 hwy mpg, premium gas. With no maintenance cost other than wear/tear on tires.
I can’t speak for others. But I would say that’s a complete success in my book. Brilliant!
I had a Standard range Model 3 over a weekend as a Hertz Rental, and as a BMW 340i M Sport driver, I was shocked to see how well rounded of a car even the cheapest Tesla was.

It`s the same as the Performance only RWD. Teslas are so boring, no difference between the trims.

Bought my 2021 SR+ for $41k in Sept 21. Got a $5k rebate from NJ so bought car for $36k. No sales tax. Has required no servicing except a tire rotation with Tesla mobile service did for $50 in my driveway. 0-60 in 5.3 seconds is plenty fast and it has tremendous handling and all the tech you could ever want. Bang for the buck? Hell yes!
The LR can do 0-60 in 3.7. It's so fast and silent you have to worry about other people pulling into your lane because nobody is used to checking for a car accelerating that quickly. So the 0-60 in 5.3 is probably a good thing... I needed the 360 miles of range though on the LR I have a hour drive each day. It's been saving me like $800 a month so like my net spending is down buying an expensive car. It feels so backwards

Got the same deal in NJ in June 2020… what a dream it is, will never regret it, despite tires finally waring after 2 years and 38k miles and will run me about 1k for a full new set
Wife Got the same model as a company car in September last year. Astonishing for the money. She has a charger at work so, thus far we haven’t paid a dime for “fuel”. No service needed yet either and averaging 135 watts per klm. Summer range 420 klm, winter 380.

I drive a Standard Range+, and I completely get the notion that saving 10k is a big deal when I was comparing it to the LR. Like, if you can live with the SR+, it makes it the best bang for the buck like the owner said.
True. Of course everyone has to decide it on the own needs and possibilies. But I was thinking the same. Advantage of the LR is more power, fast acceleration, higher VMax, AWD, better charging speed, more maximum range. But it costs more, it's not that efficient and I rarely have long stretches. So I can pump it up to 100% in daily life and have nearly the same range than the LR using a limit of 90% or 80%.
So I saved a lot of money and I am really happy with it. Looking forward to Model Y SR in europe how that will be.
Same. SR+ is very handy for driving around the city. Love mine, left me more money to spend on other toys.

I bought a Panasonic SR+ back at the time, but at that time for 9000 more I could have got a long range dual motor… I regret that every once in a while for the battery and power

@@Muskar2 Nope. I base my opinion on what I see everyday. I see senior citizens (most of those are women) driving Tesla. The other group is young females. Fanboys think there is some great demand for EV’s but there is not….the hype comes from Fanboys that aren’t old enough to drive or cannot even afford a car so irrelevant.

This is how I look at it, SR is LFP and one motor, LR is NCA with 2 motors, and you can add 50 horsepowers to LR if you still have the money to spare ( $2,000 ) .. which come to the total of 400 Hp. The beauty of LR with AB ( acceleration boost ) , is not the drag race, it actually is on the freeway where you can climb the mountain road and pass semi truck like nothing else ... It is lots of more money from SR to LR , but it is well worth it, I had Model Y LR and Model 3 LR both add on AB, Life is changed ever since and I am 65 years , I thought I will have no life after , Cheer Ha Ha , Tesla Number 1 🤣. I was driving from Los Angeles to San Jose this weekend, on Model 3 LR, driving 80 to 90 MPH and only make one stop to supercharge, with 40% left when arrived, ( I started 100%, and recharge to 95% ) and get a prime steak for Lunch ( Harris Range ) , it was such a incredible drive .... 😀. Get a Long Range if you can afford it ..
@@JY-lg6ee would have gotten one had I lived in USA, but where I live (Israel) high taxes on cars bring base M3SR to $65,200 and base LR to $79,350. Since SR range good enough for me (I don't drive a lot and small country anyway), couldn't justify the LR, or even putting an extra $2,750 to get a different color than the standard white
I bought the Model 3 RWD with LFP in Canada when it was still cheap enough to qualify for incentives… so it was closer to $20k CAD difference between the Long Range. Super happy with it!

I bought my Model 3 Performance for 50k € back in September 2021 and it's absolutely amazing!
One of my friends let me drive his Model 3 SR+ once and honestly ... the difference isn't too big. Only if you fully accelerate the car with a loaded battery. But you do that 3-4 times and then it gets boring.
So if you want to save money and the LR or Performance is out of your reach then just go for the standard Model 3. You definitely won't get disappointed!

Pretty amazing that the single motor and LFP pack can run with a lot of the cars on there. The M3 RWD really is the best all around EV for the money right now for most people, especially in the US where the M3 LR is $11k more and the MY starts at just shy of $20k more. The "Slower" charge rate is actually pretty close since the battery is smaller, you will have less degradation over time, and the LFP pack can take a lot of abuse. The only limitation is for very cold environments, LFP doesn't like the cold, but if you pre-heat the battery, its amazing.

all true except degradation: you will most likely have more degradation with the SR+ precisely because the battery is smaller. simply means more cycles for the same amount of kWh. and more cycles equal more degradation. the bigger the battery and the lower the consumption the lower the degradation (not considering behavioural aspects)
@@tesla-spectre That's not true. The RWD is an LFP chemistry rated at ~4000 complete cycles compared to the 1500-2500 cycles of the 2170 cells. They will degrade much slower than the LR and Performance vehicles. The RWD LFP battery is the "million mile battery".

LFP M3 owner here in NJ. I park in a driveway outside all year. Winter definitely takes more energy vs the summer, but as long as you can charge every 2-3 days (I drive around 60 miles a day) you'll be fine. Not to mention it's still fun to drive (love telling people "and this is the slow one!" when I drive them around in it lol)
I have this exact Tesla, and I'm amazed at the power and efficiency, and nearly shocked that some people think they need the performance edition! This car is more than enough for everyone, and any more power will just be overkill and wear your tires out.

If it had the upgraded stereo I'd get the standard range no question. Here's hoping the next refresh gets the standard and long range stereos on par with each other.

@@JY-lg6ee i think the OG is talking about the lfp battery having some lifetime and charging advantages as well as huge advantages environmentally such as lack of rare metal use, great for use by the majority of people from now into the future. We should almost enforce it through regulation. But I agree the other battery and cars perform even better that it's really enticing.
1:11 full charging daily is still worse for the lfp battery than doing it less e.g. weekly, which is definitely recommended due to calibration needs. the battery wants to be calibrated now and then so it understands its own capability, and it can handle full charges better than nac batteries. But still, avoiding a full charge every day will help maintaining more range over time. Anyway, as said charging full daily isn't as harmful as with the nac! Tesla's message is for the mainstream, apparently they believe people can't handle detailed information to act upon.

yea its the "cheapest" but its has the amazing LFP battery, the way faster AMD CPU and the new matrix headlights, honestly the durability, longevity and much user friendly LFP would sell me alone, and its still PLENTYY fast for daily use

I can see why you did a run with 5 people in the car but I wish you had done a run with just the driver. Plus pop off the wheel covers which may have stopped the brake issue.

Im in Canada and the only thing keeping me from buying RWD is driving in winter . Its been over 20 years since i had RWD. Hows your experience ?
@Larss70 For me, it works great. I drive over a mountain to get to my cabin, and it's no problem. I'm driving on studless tires. It's not the range or awd I'm missing. The audio system is the biggest drawback, in my opinion. The biggest advantage is the lfp battery with the low capacity drop over time.

This Battery actually likes it toasty.
Cold weather is the worst part, but even then you get full power.
And it charges so well. I own the previous lfp version with the 55kWh pack and it charges with 120kw at 50% and it drops unter 100kw at 62%. Often too fast to take a pee 😄.

I have the 2021 LFP Model 3, which should be the same one you have. But it doesn't charge very fast in China with either V3 or V2.
It only peaks at 120-125kW for a minute or two, then drops to around 100kW.
@@cachem11 oh wow. Is that common for the lfp in china? Mine has the peak at 166kW and the new pack with the 60kWh battery peaks at 170kW.
I assume you charge it to 100% sometimes to calibrate it? Or grid limit? 🤷♂️
@@DeChris89 It's more likely a charger limit. LFP Model 3s and Ys in China all have similar charging speeds as mine. We have a Chinese standard GB DC plug on our cars, so maybe the current is limited.
The supercharger here is cheaper though. Average US$0.3 per kWh during the day and $0.15 during the night.
Nice video. That cars doing well, there’s at least 450kg of passengers in that car. For a single motor it’s pretty good.
I drove a taycan over the weekend and maybe im biased but I was so happy getting back into my model 3 after my vacation. It drives so awesome.

Fabulous car for the price, beats most ice and ev's that are more expensive and cost more to fuel or charge. Wait till they get the 4680 cells in this in the future, then it will show all the other similarly priced cars the door!
I would buy a Renault Megan etech or a Inoiq 5 or 6

The only problem is Tesla raises the price every few months. By the time 4680 cells make it to Model 3 RWD, it will be $55K.

I hired a model 3 SR for a couple of weeks. Test drove the performance as well. As an ever day car the SR is still alot of fun , probably more practical in my opinion.
I just took delivery Friday of the exact car in the U.S. and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised. I thought that it would feel like a major downgrade after having a model Y performance for a year, but it turns out that the TIRES are my only disappointment. The U.S. gets subpar tires for this car (I won't call out the brand) and I'm envious of the Michelin tires that Europe receives.

Coming from a Model Y performance, do you find the acceleration lacking on the Model 3? Or would you say that it’s still great and comparable to a dual motor LR car?
@@AdilZohrri I'll put it this way, the rear wheel drive LFP Model 3 is only around a second slower than my BMW e46 M3. I've never driven a dual motor long range, but the Performance Y was snappy and quicker than most production cars driving around. My current car, SR Model 3, is plenty for most people and does not disappoint...although I will probably go back to a Performance Y at some point.

You can get a 2023 rwd for that price if you watch tesla inventory. Ours was discounted 4200 off the alreayd lowered price.

Hey, I think the max weight is 2135kg. Car weights 1835 empty. Around 300kg allowed, so definitely the suspension was on the limit!

If terrible handling and grip around corners that makes one scared means it isn't boring than i guess you are right.
Ring rental? Only if people only want to do half a lap then coast because of overheating brakes, then let the battery cool down for an hour then recharge it again before the next client who only wants half a lap…

Its a great car for the money for sure. Love mine (had since March). Of course on normal roads / driving (even spirited) brake overheating won't ever be a problem but would be interesting to see one go around without aero covers on, to see if it really makes any difference. I drove my SR+ from Denmark to France and back in the weekend, much of it on Autobahn going as fast as traffic would allow me. And even though I often went 140->190->110 km/h in quick succession to pass people, with frequent hard braking and acceleration, there was no brake fade. I tried maximizing regen over brakes though, which benefits range but is suboptimal for racing, like on the ring. The power was slightly limited when going from 170km/h for a while and then stepping on it when finally getting an opportunity to pass but it wasn't very noticeable and passed away in seconds when going back down to
They say Tesla is not really leaps and bounds ahead in the automated systems; but that display is just showing an amazingly accurate digital representation of reality - its not perfect but it a rational person should be able to wisely use it to improve their driving experience. My lane assist is useful in the same way, but I would say it is not "understanding or seeing" the world perfectly .. and even if it was I had no way to gauge its understanding except when it say it can see the left or right or both lane makers and I still do not know what it is see and take it on trust. I don't know, that virtual world on the Tesla seems to be good feedback.

As cool as this video is (and I would love to drive on the Nürburgring with something fast and sporty) a “starter car” does not cost $30K+. I would love to see an unrestricted Aptera eventually take on this track.

Don’t knock three cylinder engines, they are fabulous. The Daihatsu Charade was a super economical one Litre five speed five seater that out performed the Sister Four Cylinder Starlet from Toyota … Now Toyota is Building Three Cylinder Motors for their Gazoo Racing Toyota Yaris Rally cars … more space in the Tesla Though than all those others …

7:40 - MIC SR+ has prismatic cells made by CATL not pouch cells.
This is how I look at it, RW is LFP and one motor, LR is NCA with 2 motors, and you can add 50 horsepowers to LR if you still have the money to spare ( $2,000 ) .. which come to the total of 400 Hp. The beauty of LR with AB ( acceleration boost ) , is not the drag race, it actually is on the freeway where you can climb the mountain road and pass semi truck like nothing else ... It is lots of more money from RW to LR , but it is well worth it, I had Model Y LR and Model 3 LR both add on AB, Life is changed ever since and I am 65 years , I thought I will have no life after , Cheer Ha Ha , Tesla Number 1 🤣. I was driving from Los Angeles to San Jose this weekend, on Model 3 LR, driving 80 to 90 MPH and only make one stop to supercharge, with 40% left when arrived, ( I started 100%, and recharge to 95% ) and get a prime steak for Lunch ( Harris Range ) , it was such a incredible drive .... 😀. Get a Long Range if you can afford it ..
The 2019-2020 SR+ with p980 motor was capable of 330hp with a piggyback module.

I have read the boost takes the LR from 375 to 425 hp, with the Performance models having 450 hp.
@@misterb1132 Yes, that is correct, but Model 3 LR is NOT available right now, The Model Y LR will do the same, since they both are using the same battery, motors, powertrain

Have you heard of any Tesla Model 3 with LFP battery caught fire? I heard all the good things about the LFP battery but tbh I'm still can't believe there's no Tesla with LFP caught fire.
For a fast road car the suspension definitely feels like it's weak point and the seats give no support.
Apart from that the LFP is a great daily driver..

The LFP battery is not pouch. It's still prismatic. Elon has stated they won't use pouch cells as they are unsafe.
Prismatic is just pouch cells in a case. I can't think of any EV that uses unenclosed pouch cells. It is just marketing.
I should clarify I meant cylindrical not prismatic in Tesla batteries.
@@rossadamdixon The LFP batteries in Teslas is prismatic, which makes Elon's statement baffling. Maybe nobody told him. There is cylindrical LFP cells Headway and others has made them for many years. I use them for 12 volt systems.
For those saying a prismatic cell is just a pouch cell in a box or Is a pouch cell ,stop opening your mouth and removing all doubt.

I has a SR+ as a loaner from Tesla when my model Y was being serviced, I didn’t know it was a SR+, I thought it was a Long Range. I thought it was broken 😂 fine car, but a Tesla without crazy acceleration just didn’t feel like a Tesla

Why are so many of the top views backwards. The bridge is located on the starboard side on these carriers yet the view shows them on the port side.
Model 3s on the track is capable but it needs more stamina. By saying this, I’ll use the model 3 as a commuter car and a Porsche or an Alfa or a Lotus or an S2000 or a GR86 on the race tracks with technical turns.
Honestly its fine if you have access to charging at the track. I ran both SCCA and NASA last year.
The cheapest Tesla has way better tech, features, and speed than any other base model from BMW, Merc, Ford, etc.
