The F-14B IS much better than the F-14A in a dogfight but it has to be flown a certain way. The F-14B has much better T/W but it is also heavier with higher wingloading. Thus, it has worse turn radius and instantaneous turn than the F-14A. The F-14B must be flown with correct lines to drain the F-14A of energy. If you can do that, the F-14B can win every time.
Are you familiar with managing your speed? lol This is just a WASD battle.
You gotta make use of those powerful engines m'dude. If I were you, I would have tried to energy trap the F-14A using the B's better thrust by going up rather than going down.
Mat, Defyn did a video comparing this to the MiG 29 and the F-14A, and it was an absolute smackdown. You're right- the MiG 29 will beat it in the first turn, and in a 1 circle (at lower airspeeds), but after that first turn it's basically all over and the MiG 29 can't pull it's nose around. The F14A is going to perform similar to it because they are at their core the same plane, but in this dogfight you really are not using the vertical enough at all- trust me, it has A LOT more power than you think. Also what do you mean the F14B is sluggish, this thing accelerates insanely fast.
I think he means heavy. it does feel heavy, not like the mig 29.
@@braedynhoward3644 I suppose youre right on that, but the 1-1 TWR should at least help I suppose.
I hate this game and the constant amounts of unreasonable unrealistic nerf they do
ong
They'll probably fix later, like they did with the mig 29 which had an absolute crappy fm initially
I've just watched Defyn's video and the f14b is an absolute monster if you go vertical, that's where you can really feel the difference. I highly recommend you to watch his video.
@@francoarca2122 Will do, thanks
i love the amount of content you put out, its awsome
They are not as good as they are in DCS, Especially the radar and AIM-54. Calling the F-14 Sluggish just points to that something is wrong.
In DCS you basically only lose to thrust vectoring aircraft if you fly perfectly yourself in a dogfight. The F-16C being the biggest threat otherwise.
DCS is completely different than WT stop comparing them
@@meerbee2910 warthunder and dcs are indeed different. However the dcs flight models are very close to irl. He is implying that the f14B isn’t preforming like it should.
@@warlikecomic2022Exactly! War Thunder consistently incorporates real-world facts into its balancing adjustments. There is a faction within the playerbase that erroneously assumes War Thunder balances plane performance solely based on arcade-style gameplay, when in reality Gaijin strives to model the game after real-life scenarios to the greatest extent possible in many cases. This is done while still ensuring user-friendly controls, and then further balancing through considerations of economy, battle rating, and statistical analysis.
Also when you rate fight or just fight in general in the f14 out flaps down, in the rate fight the f14 with flaps down can’t be matched and is so op
He did use the combat flaps
apart from a drakon as a f14 main. u can one circle faster but if u miss the drakon will dance around u
much more powerful engines = you need to force vertical fights preferably up to mid alt. pretty sure neither a Mig or 14A will be able to keep up with the B in that regard at all. you were able to pull off that loop at 4:00 because of this.
Defyn did an overview of the dev server where he showed the F-14B vs F-14A where he went vertical and really showed how much a difference in thrust makes
Last year, I would have never said this, but I now prefer the MLD to the F4J and F-16; was never much of an F-14 player. Seriously though, the R-24s, even though their range is limited, are so MUCH more reliable; especially since nearly everyone flies on the deck these days. *Maybe not "prefer", but easier kills.
the radars on the the mig 23s kinda suck tho
@@Daakkii That they do!
That’s how I feel loving my F4S more then the f16
I think the F-14 is much better at DCS
Don’t compare dcs to warthunder. Seek made a whole video on this.
@@Goober_____ not an excuse for flight models to be unrealistic
@@abidbmtt cmon this is warthunder we are talking about
@@Goober_____ ye but imo instead of making unrealistic nerfs they should just raise their br and at the same time stop the br compression, BOOM 2 problems solved in 1 move
@@abidbmtt What’s funny is that DCS flight models are more unrealistic than war thunder 😂 the only “unrealistic”flight models war thunder has are early cold war british ones because the british did not write anything down at all during that time. Even then the guesses are close enough.
The best way to fight the A with the B os to drain it of its energy. The A will be able to point its nose on several occasions, kinda like the Mig 29, but avoiding the nose and continuing to use your thrust and speed retention advantage, as well as using the vertical, you will be able to stomp the A with the B.
Well it makes sense since the airframe is the same. Several DCS content creators mentioned the same, where the difference in a dogfight wasn’t huge. Not that it matters since a Tomcat isn’t going to be beating a Mirage or MiG-29 in the first turn anyway. The extra power however does mean that it’s extended fighting ability is much higher. That is what I am looking forward to.
To be honest you could of won the fight at 2:28 or something like that if you pulled hard rudder and held the trigger
some people are failing to realise that its still going to handle like a tomcat the only difference is its going to be better in a rate fight down to its better engines. similar to the different phantoms we have they all handle in a similar fashion
Dude seeing you take that f14 into the vertical so much was painful
Bro let go of afterburner hit the speed break when turning then rip the throttle back up for pull turn potential
"The F-14A to F-14A+ (redesignated F-14B) upgrade produced remarkable results in aircraft performance, with a 43% increase in reheated thrust, a 37% increase in dry thrust, 30% lower fuel burn in reheat, 62% greater intercept radius, and about a 30% improvement in endurance on station and combat radius, all with a much more reliable engine with unrestricted handling. Variants of the F110 are now widely used on the F-16C, are the standard powerplant on the F-14B/D, and have been tested on the F-15E."
The difference should be HUGE just in engine power alone
Operation Praying Mantis 1988, alternate history - US F-14B Tomcats versus Iranian F-14As. Oh yeah, I would have paid money to see that !
Hi, MatAWG here's a thought, don't go full sweep in the Tomcat the whole fight. Sure, it can give you that extra AOA in key moments but overall, at least from what I've noticed it will ultimately leave you with unnecessary and excessive wing drag. I've noticed that a wing sweep at roughly 27% will give you near-optimal desired turns. Having wings sweep to 27% produces less drag for the F-14 Tomcat while also allowing it to maintain a greater amount of speed for the dogfight. I've experimented with it using my F-14A Early Tomcat and it would seem that it helps but I would imagine it would help to a greater degree on the F-14B Tomcat. Just a thought. You can try it out to see if it works for you.
My understanding is that the GE F-404 was optimized for low end acceleration while the Pratt and Whitney TF30 was designed for top end acceleration. This is keeping with their intended roles - the -A model was designed solely to be a fleet defence interceptor, it had to get up, get high and get fast to intercept incoming Soviet bombers before they got into launch range. The -B model was designed to turn the Tomcat into more of an all around fighter - better low end and thus better dogfighting ability, better avionics and of course the increase in air to ground munition options.
In game another thing I would point out is that the -B model lost the wing root leading edge extensions. These were designed to increase turn rate at low speeds, they may have been removed due to their providing marginal benefit considering the cost, maintenance load etc, or because the increase in low end power was assumed to make up for their loss.
Having a better engine i dont understand why you are not using it, this is the same problem i saw when you were fighting the mirage 2000 in the mig 29 and that is you're not using your strenght.
of course it depends on the pilot its the same plane, but at the same time the F-14B just has more thrust while here you are trying to dogfight the same plane as yours, which is fine in the 2 circle fight not so much on 1 circle fight as the A will just be slower then you and slot on your six
The best fighter I have is the MF for Germany, though I would rather grind USSR with my 25K
I think people need to use the takeoff and landing flaps on the B to beat the A, youre getting like 20% more thrust so you can bleed the extra speed youll normally get with the flaps and pull harder in the 2 circle. Could also try to go 2 circle and keep the nose pointed up high enough you dont lose speed but the A would?
I think the acceleration in a straight line is just better and more linear
We have to get our game back or leave it to die
Omg ! Iwas Think U F-14 Player all this time OMG !
Cant tell if you are joking or not hahaha

thoughts on the economy situation right now?
Already posted a vid on it
O problema é que warthunder não simula compressorstall, o f14A tem muito esse problema e o vigem também

LOVE YOU MAT❤🎉
Your a mig pilot because they take no skill
No im a mig pilot since the mig15 was first added back almost 10 years, I hate sluggish aircraft such as the Phantom and the f14
@MatAWG I understand I'm just giving u a hard time I enjoy the content do u know when patch might drop
@MatAWG but we all know irl those migs would get stopped by us aircraft
@@The_ragingJewZionist You only think that because the US only attacks poor countries that can barely defend themselves or scrape an airforce together, if they even have an airforce at all.
Migs are very potent aircraft, when they arent outdated export versions fighting a nation that values war and military spending over the health and safety of its people.
ITS LIKE THE 1 to 1 THRUST RATIO DOESNT EXIST! this better stop!
almost as if optimal isn't always how it plays out
He is using combat flaps maybe that's why it was always constant 500kph loops and not faster.
@@andreikivorsky1726 Doesn’t the normal F-14 stalls if you try to constantly loop?
@@stevenguzman2049 sorry, by loop I meant horizontal circles, not vertical loop. Pretty much all planes in the game right now will run out of energy if they do vertical loops repeatedly (yes, f16 and mig29 included). But idk about F14b, since it has prop-like energy retention, it might not stall as easily.
I highly recommend you guys to watch Defyn's last video, the f14b is an absolute monster if you go vertical.
The F14B is far better, Gajin just sucks. if it was a mig this would be a UFO
In real life the thrust is much more then the A. And speed wise would just pull more thrust. It’s clearly a copy paste with a tad bit more speed.
It beats the mig29 in a dogfight, dummy. Now maybe US players will stop crying for a while.
But probably not.
you guys don't get how the engines work, the Tomcat B has engines that were designed for fighters while the Tomcat A has engines that were meant for bombers. the one disadvantage the A had compared to the B is not modeled in war thunder. the A had compressor stall problems. The engines being "improved" is misleading. the extra thrust also doesn't really do anything because not only is the B heavier, but the the A's engines act like ram jets once supersonic. You guys look at paper stats way too much.
Clearly it helps because it beats the f14A and mig29 in a dogfight.
@@toyotawitha20mm35 just watch Defyns video, it has better sustained turn rate than the 29.
