It wasn't a myth. TF-30s have a higher bypass which means a higher thrust at the top end, F110s still beat the older F-14A in every other area.
They went with historical reports on the engines.

In DCS F14B got slower max speed than F14A too
Yeah much older, lower bypass TF30's are fondly remembered by veterans for being actually really powerful down low even in after GE engines were out. GE engines, being higher bypass, newer tech, were much less fuel hungry up top. For the post war, insurgency bombing F14 this was perfect as it allowed for much longer legs.
@@master4098 the funny thing is that all the F14 variants were in service when they all retired. The F14A,B ,and the D. Which I don’t recall that occurring with any other US jet fighters ever. Every variant was useful for different tasks

@@sargesacker2599 many F14’s were in reserves when the official F14 family of aircraft were retired completely in 2006. It is likely that many F14A’s were “retired” by 04 but I’ve only read of the official mass retiring of the aircraft in 06. You definitely could be correct though I just haven’t seen it.

App they did was give us a slightly better f14 with better missles then fuck us over and nerf the engines again,this thing should be one of the fastest accelerating before and after mach
The spaded f14a accelerates from 0 to mach in 53 seconds at SL, top speed at 6000m is mach 1.75 while thrust keeps climbing and climbing beyond M1.5
The spaded f14b accelerates from 0 to mach in 43.5 seconds at SL, its top speed at 6000m is mach 1.6 and thrust starts to drop off from M 1.5
This is consistent with the f14b's engines being historically faster accelerating and slower at top speed and high altitude

Carry 4x AIM-9L's with the countermeasures pods, and you'll have 640x plus the internal 60x countermeasures, giving you a total of 700x Countermeasures, 350x if you take mixed, 350x flares, 350x chaff, and then take two sparrow's and two phoenix's.

Atleast there i get to bvr people AND do 1 on 1 engagements without worry of outside parties. highly recommend them btw

@@Ghost-tw7xw yup, but only at low speed because this weird aoe limiter which should not be that strong, only g limiter. If you only flew dcs f16 :P which is heavier block 50. Speed should be everything in f16. It should never go below 380kn (700kph). Below that it starts to be sluggish and not faster that 500kn (926kph) in dogfight, but it should not transform into starfighter above that xD
@@larshenrik8900 No the F-16 just doesnt bleed speed in war thunder because it lacks AoA and it pulls less than 7.8G's at max speed with weapons load.
That is a HORRIBLY innacurate flight model that War Thunder has because it literally performs *worse* than if it had a 9G limiter.
I think the tomcat is a larger threat to the mig 29 than the f-16 is tbh. Sure the mig is better in a dogfight, but whats that good for if you never merge?
I dont know how radar or warnings are supposed to work in WT but in reality, if you kept the enemy locked until the missile hit they don't get a warning because the missile didnt go pitbull and used the planes tracking so warnings dont go off other than an enemy plane is tracking you because there is no active radar on the missile unless you break lock.
Will you go take a look back at the tornado F.3 since it got both a flight model buff and a radar buff this update
It IS true that the F-14A had better performance at high speeds than the F-14B, but that is not with the early F14A engine, as far as i understood, and that was only at about mach 2 or higher.
People ignore the aim54 because of the AI SPAA that just randomly locks everyone so youre always getting rwr no matter what

The hidden benefits of the f14b that aren’t modeled in the game is that they aren’t as prone to compressor stalls. The f14a in heavy turns would compressor stall causing your turning ability to be completely trash where the f14b was designed in part to limit compressor stalling. This is an issue on a lot of Russian aircraft as well and the mirages. Would be cool if it was modeled in game because that would mean someone couldn’t just rely on holding the s key to turn better they would have to moderate their turns. It would make a lot of the mirages even worst than they are however, but that’s because they are just bad planes irl compared to other aircraft in a situation like what air rb puts you in. Also the flaps on the f14b are less prone to getting stuck in the down position during hard turns.

The thing with the TWS isn't a bug (at least not if you see it from a realistic stand point). TWS won't actually trigger your RWR as a radar lock because of the way the radar waves aren't actually fully focused on you. After the missile goes Pitbull (essentially when the on board radar takes over from the mothership) will the target get a RWR lock warning, this usually happens at very close ranges (5-10nm) and barely leaves you with any room to react.

The engines might be a little slower but at least on the dev server they were noticeably more fuel efficient than the F14A. F14A would burn through fuel in stage 3 after burner. F14-B also runs a few hundred of a degrees F cooler which isnt huge but helps for sure.

I also think the F14A will have higher success rate of landing hits with the 54-A just because the F14A runs into more wallet warriors in the Mig-23 and F4S. You can normally aim for newer players are you will see them flying straight at you across the middle of the battle field from the start where as the more experienced players dip to the side off the rip.
Defyn, Could you do a mig29 vs F14b dogfight like you did with the f16 and mig29. i feel like it would help alot, especially in min fuel 1v1's.

Pretty sure the F-14B can outrate the F-16A, not the C block 25's but the A block 20's we have in game right now. You have to go full wing extension with full flaps but with the upgraded engines on the B it's possible to win the rate fight. And the F-14B should be able to outrate the Mig-29. Just stay out of the 1-circle with the Mig. Could be wrong though; depends on how they modeled the F-14B in War Thunder.
Well, according to EM diagrams the F-14A on 50% internal fuel does ~15.5deg/s sustained at 5000 ft altitude, the F14B does 16.1 deg/s (both with 4 Sparrows and 4 Aim-9), and the F-16A (block 10) does just over 19 deg/s at 5k ft on 50% fuel + 2 Aim-9P3.
In game the F14s can outrate the F16s if using SB controls + elevator trim if you ride the wing rip G load at ~850km/h, but in practice in an actual match its just not happening.
@@_YellovvJacket_ I'd be interested in testing it out. Maybe I didn't word it correctly but I'm not trying to say it's guaranteed or easy to do. I'm saying it's possible. Especially since maintaining an optimal turn rate in the F-16A is pretty difficult in War Thunder.

9:37 I am not sure that that is a bug, I might not be right but TWS lock won't give you the RWR warning itself rather the missile's radar will when it goes pitbull ( it locks you with its own radar), if I'm wrong feel free to correct me...
from what i know you're right, they would still get an RWR ping for *aircraft that way has radar on you* but because the missile is using the aircraft radar the missile is undetectable from RWR until its pitbull.
that is how TWS works, you don't hard lock someone so they don't get a RWR warning from the plane's radar. They do get one from the missile itself when it goes pitbull (the phase where the missile starts using it's own radar)
That is true, but what the bug is is that the Phoenix if guided by TWS the entire time until impact will never go pitbull, meaning it will not use its own radar, and just slam into the target fully guided by the TWS that gives no RWR warning.

The TWS not pinging the enemy radar when the missile is in the air is not a bug, that is the real-world application of that radar setting. Once the tws lock is broken and the missile becomes active through it's own seeker head is when they will be notified. TWS intermittently pings instead of the conventional hardlock that you normally get through radar and makes it undetectable for your opponent, to my knowledge.

no the whole point of launching on tws is that you can get your pheonix off without them knowing, they have to prempt that an f14 has been slinging pheonixs. when the pheonix goes pitbull i cant remember if that sets off the rwr but at that point it is well and truly within the mar to which ur dead regardless.
@@Wally_Wombat689 Well yes, but apparently there is a bug now where if you can keep TWS, the phoenix will never go pitbull. Making it essentially guide solely on datalink through TWS. Not sure if it got fixed yet or if it's only the AIM-54C, I'd need to test it on someone.
also even if it works properly, in the way phoenixes are used and just the nature of the missile itself (heavy and only 17Gs) makes the no escape zone of the phoenix not that impressive, certainly not at its pitbull range of 16km (which gives still plenty of room to dodge it). No escape zones will be true no escape zones once we probably reach the AMRAAMs and such, but even then, planes pull 9G+ in this game casually, so it won't be the same as irl.
Just tested it, doesn't seem to be the case with the F-14A at least, so maybe it's F-14B only. Lotssa things are bugged right now. But it could also be related to the invisible missile bug.

its stupid that the 7M in game is identical to the 7F. they should implement the later block (circa 1987) of the 7M to show an improvement, especially since gaijin gave russia the 27ER which is a contemporary to the AMRAAMS.
a later block 7M would have significantly improved rear aspect tracking and ground clutter rejection (you can no longer hide from it by flying super low) which would provide some much needed capability against the MiG29.
I guess after this quarter F-14B could got AIM-9M basic from cdk and GBU-31 JDAM

Anyone else having issues with tws? Every time I put the pipper over a radar signature, it automatically goes into aqm and will not hold a soft lock. Makes it impossible to use the aim54s.
