Yeah, Gerald Ford's "There is no Soviet domination of Eastern Europe" might genuinely have cost him the election: the campaign was a dead heat at that point, and as political writer Steven Hayward put it, "Whoever [candidate] made the last mistake would lose" - and Ford made the last mistake.

One you missed is in 2016 where Hillary Clinton was trying to accuse Donald Trump of just about everything. On one she said something to the effect of one topic and Trump replied “because you’d be in jail”.
Epic. She had no response.
No matter who wins the debate or election, they'll end up doing something that some people or eveyone will hate.

Even if Trump DID say that (which I doubt), why would Biden stoop to that low level and repeat it? Sometimes not acknowledging an insulting comment is the best way to handle it.

Most presidents show significant signs of aging after each 4 year term due to the amount of stress and pressure the job entails. Trump is the only modern prez that hasn't shown that aging. Kind of shows he didn't take the job seriously and do anything himself.
I miss the days when debates were exchanges of competing ideas rather than personal insults and acting like children. The tone and manner of the debates are reflections of national discourse.
Dude I hate to tell you this but it has literally never been civil. You can go back 100 years and find them doing the same shit.
@@BeyondBaito I know what you mean, but at least they were more cordial and respectful towards each other. Go back and look at the Romney/Obama debate. They shook hands and spoke respectfully. They acted Presidential and carried themselves with dignity. They didn't name call and insult each other.

Had I been up there, granted I too wouldn't have expected such a question, I would have called out the media for sensationalizing issues with such graphic questions. Then I'd go on to say that it would be terrible tragedy and my heart would want the criminal to pay. But then I'd say, that both Kitty and I as a future President understand that sometimes a President much make decisions he personally has moral qualms with for the good of the country and that emotion cannot decide decisions blindly--so the public policy must trump personal grief of me and the country. Something with some feeling, some anger, vigor.

Let me see if I got this straight, Perry’s flub is the most awkward debate moment and one example from Biden is #10? The truth is that last debate was unprecedented. Nothing like that has ever happened. It was one awkward moment after another. The top ten and many more all happened in 90 minutes.

The crazy thing about the onset of Biden's dementia is how rapid it progressed. Even 4 years ago, he was completing sentences and speaking coherently with some gaffs in between. Now it's just sad.

The irony of Rick Perry leading the department he wanted to abolish is still one of the funniest things to this day to me. Anyone who wants to defund the DOE always forgets the not so secret part of that department (it's primarily the department of where we get material for our nukes)
