I agree. He really *was* a very ineffective and shortsighted president, but I don’t see why he always secures the #1 spot as Worst President Ever. I think Andrew Johnson was really the worst one we ever had (prior to 2016), but I also think Warren Harding and Franklin Pierce lay some claim to the title as well. So we’ve already got four candidates for whom you could make a good argument that they were the worst. So I don’t see why Buchanan *always* gets selected as the #1 Worst Ever. But that’s only the worst ever prior to 2016, anyway. It is indisputable that Donald Trump was the worst President in all of American history. I don’t think James Buchanan or Andrew Johnson ever led any violent insurrections into the Capitol Building - you get my drift?
@@matthewgliatto7339 Woodrow Wilson is also a good pick for worst POTUS ever. And JB now. Oh missed the end. Dems led insurrection into the Capitol. Why did America fight the Vietnam war? The Vietnam war lasted 10 years and cost America 58,000 lives and over a trillion dollars(adjusted for inflation). It brought out a President, stirred social unrest, and ended in defeat. No one in hindsight believes fighting a losing war is ever worth the cost. Consequently the Vietnam War is usually written off as a colossal strategic blunder and a humanitarian disaster. Yet historical appraisals might have been much different had the Vietnam war followed the pattern of the Korean War(1950-1953), which the United States fought for almost identical reasons: the defense of freedom in Asia. The US had military advisors in Vietnam during the 1950s but didn’t become involved in a major way until 1963. President JFK firmly believed in the domino effect. The foreign policy theory that vulnerable nations without help would fall, one after another, like dominoes, to external communist aggression. JFK thus hoped to stop Soviet and Chinese backed communist invasions in a manner of President Harry S. Truman had in Korea by taking a stand in Vietnam. As with Korea, it was a war the United States did not seek, as with Korea, Vietnam presented no “imperial” advantages, no natural resources of any kind that the United States needed to protect or wish to obtain. As with Korea the aggressor was a communist government in the north intent on taking control of the south. And it’s military cross and internationally recognized in order to do so. Following JFK’s assassination in November of 1963, President Lyndon B. Johnson vastly escalated America’s role in 1964. But even as he did so Johnson prosecuted the war with deep ambivalence. Authorizing significantly more troops and money for the war but never pushing for total victory. In contrast the north Vietnamese never wavered. They ignored every one of Johnson’s many offers to negotiate a settlement. By 1971, the war was at a stalemate. Neither side able to establish a clear advantage. The President Richard Nixon pursued a two prong strategy. To turn over combat operations to the south Vietnamese and to bomb north Vietnam. The effort brought the communist to Paris Peace Talks and by 1973 the North agreed to a general settlement. Establishing two autonomous Vietnamese nations. One communist, one non-communist in the manner of North and South Korea. However the watergate scandal, the subsequent resignation of President Nixon, and the democrats sweeping congressional victory in the 1974 midterm election, all helped to convince the North Vietnamese that America would not enforce the peace agreement. They were right. Without US air support and material aid the South Vietnamese had no chance against the North. Well supplied by the Soviet Union, the Chinese, the communist gained full control of the country in April 1975. The war proved far more costly than Korea because the geography and landscapes of Vietnam were far more conducive during operation. There were also far more restrictions placed on American commanders and during the Korean War. The United States in the 1960s was a far less conservative and cohesive country than America in the 1950s. Yet despite the long ordeal and terrible cost, South Vietnam was saved in 1973 only to be lost in 1975. The US defeat in Vietnam was a POLITICAL choice. Not a military necessity. Had the US protected an independent but vulnerable South Vietnam in 1973 and 1974, that country would have most likely followed the model of South Korea. Millions of southeast Asians would not have become Boat people, and refugees, or been sent to the gulags and re-education camps. A viable US backed democratic Vietnam would have stabilized the region and almost certainly prevented the neighboring Cambodian genocide in which one-fifth of that country, 2 million people were slaughtered by its communist leadership. And much of the bitterness over the war on both sides of the American political spectrum still with us today would have vanished. And for the communist Vietnamese, the instigators and aggressors of the terrible conflict, what was it all for? Today ironically the Vietnamese government aspires to nothing more than the capitalist affluence. That it once reviled.
The comments here are pretty funny. Of all the egregious acts former 🇺🇸 presidents have committed, some are comparing a dismal debate to the Trail of Tears or the internment of Japanese heritage Americans. Please, can we all agree that stepping on your fellow countrymen is far worse than stepping on your own tongue?
I like that some of the choices on here are actually presidents who did a good job. Was not expecting to see George Washington who is revered as one of the greatest of all time
Afghanistan was gonna play out like that regardless whom ever was in office, like South Vietnam. You can’t build a nation that’s not really a nation (Afghanistan was built as a division between British India and Czar Russia).
My grandmothers basically she was a maid was a Japanese woman named Masako Ichikwa. During World War II she was taken to one of those camps. My family did everything they could for her at the time. I’m pretty sure they got her out and sent her back to japan where she would be safe. I could be wrong as my grandmother was very young at the time when this happened and was told later on by her parents. I hope this woman lived a happy life as my grandmother talk very fondly about her. She didn’t remember much about her other than when she went to see her at the camps she would cry asking Masako when she was coming back home to them.
Actually, Jimmy Carter SUCCESSFULLY negotiated the release of the hostages. Then Reagan (who was still a candidate) called it off and told the Iranians that if they would hold off until after the election, he would promise them weapons!!! So, Reagan had Americans held captive for his own political gain. Reagan took the credit and the White House and later was embroiled in the Iran Contra scandal‼️
Grover Cleveland handled the scandal very well, publicly admitted to many newspapers that it was a sad but true reality, though he gave the child's mother a livable income and visited the child regularly
I dont remember any of these issues being taught in school. I just remember "the US is the greatest nation....". What was done to the Indigenous people is something we (the USA) criticize other countries for doing acting like we are so righteous. We need to own this truth and not repeat it.

A lot of the "corrections" have been terrible. Like the federal income tax and The FED. Increased federal control of local and state governments on a minutia level. The welfare state. FDR's New Deal. Let alone the socialism today's dems are pushing, even though they've already failed in other countries.
Way to minimize the impact of this list by including Trump's indictment, anybody that has looked at -any- of that knows it was banana republic level stuff.
The problem with the Trump conviction on this list is its irrelevance. All the other 19 of the entries occurred while a president was in office. For Trump, it was a personal matter he was thrown into by scumbags. He hadn't been president for 3 and 1/2 years.

You forgot some from recently... In 2013, the Obama administration was caught in the ATF operation fast and furious gun walking scandal where they let dozens of firearms "walk" or be allowed to be crossed into Mexico in an effort to catch the criminals red handed. One of those firearms was later used to kill a Border Patrol agent. Also, during this who scandal, Eric Holder, was the first U.S. Attorney General who was held in contempt of court due to this. Let's not forget that during this whole time, Obama was pushing Congress to ban said guns his administration allowed to be crossed into Mexico. Another scandal. The IRS scandal of 2013. Many conservatives and right wing organizations where were delayed tax exempt status, even religious organizations because they voiced their opposition to Obama. It turned out that they were a lot of audits carried out just to get these people delayed Tax Exempt status or was seen as "harassment". And lastly, the vast drone strikes in Yemen and Pakistan without Congress auth that killed American citizens and civilians alike without due process.

Japanese citizens kept captive in the US came out weighing more than when they went in 😂 US citizens held in Japan either died or came out looking like a skeleton 😐
I would argue that John Adams was still one of our greatest presidents, and probably our greatest founding father. He was the only one who vocally opposed slavery and never owned a slave himself, despite being a rich person with the capacity to do so. He was also trying to preserve the newborn America too, and while he may not have had the finesse that Abraham Lincoln had when going full authoritarian, he still probably had good intentions with the alien and sedition acts.
Here's what's embarrassing, there were no moderators in last night's debate. (The people who were supposed to fact check everything and keep the candidates on track of the questions.) The whole night was just a he said/she said because of the lack of moderators.

@@matthewgliatto7339 James Buchanan often seems to tie with his predecessor Franklin Pierce and Warren Harding as worst president 🤔

It's insane how Pierce can be a forgotten president when he pretty much lit the fuse on the American Civil War with the Kansas-Nebraska Act.
Why is the Afghanistan withdrawal not on here?!?!
We know why.
So the Afghan pullout is not in the top 20 most embarrassing moments for America? ….. ok, sureeeee 😂
My thoughts exactly! Not a SINGLE Biden “policy” is worthy of this list? The border? Inflation? Afghanistan? Literally get fucked watch mojo!
The pullout from Vietnam wasn't on the list, either. And that was done by a Republican.
@@sully9080 Given Congress refusing to fund keeping South Vietnam supplied, Ford made the best of a bad situation. Thanks lefties.
How did the Iranian hostage crisis under Jimmy Carter not make the list?
Actually, Jimmy Carter SUCCESSFULLY negotiated the release of the hostages. Then Reagan (who was still a candidate) called it off and told the Iranians that if they would hold off until after the election, he would promise them weapons!!! So, Reagan had Americans held captive for his own political gain. Reagan took the credit and the White House and later was embroiled in the Iran Contra scandal‼️
My country's leadership also faces the same fate and even worse, our former leader almost cause the whole country's economy to face serious inflation.
Grover Cleveland handled the scandal very well, publicly admitted to many newspapers that it was a sad but true reality, though he gave the child's mother a livable income and visited the child regularly
This could be a top 100 most embarrassing Joe Biden moments.

Oooh! A bad debate performance! That's seriously the worst offense of an American president? Who are you trying to kid?
I would argue that John Adams was still one of our greatest presidents, and probably our greatest founding father. He was the only one who vocally opposed slavery and never owned a slave himself, despite being a rich person with the capacity to do so. He was also trying to preserve the newborn America too, and while he may not have had the finesse that Abraham Lincoln had when going full authoritarian, he still probably had good intentions with the alien and sedition acts.
Only 10? He would demand to be at the top of the list.
