Yeah, I can't blame Hackman for getting out of the business at that point. It's not like he had anything left to prove. Now he leads a quiet life but there are still people following him around. Saw a clip that someone took of him visiting some shop to get a sandwich and then they followed him out and filmed him eating it.. No wonder he wants to keep his life private. (It was part of a video just like this about people who quit acting.)
@@nanoflower1 I agree. What I am trying to say is that you cannot compare Hackman and Bridget Fonda. Hackman spent the majority of his adult life acting, and he was successful. Fonda on the other hand quit around 40. I don't blame her, but it is not the same thing. Hackman does not belong on this list. However, Fonda does.
Hackman was 74 when his last movie came out, Welcome To Mooseport. Legend has it that the ray romano movie was so awful, Hackman just gave up and retired. Oscar nominated Meg Tilly is another example. She left acting in 1993 (returning to it only briefly from 2010-2013), and became a successful writer. I remeber being so obsessed with Bridget Fonda in my teens I just loved the way she walked her long legs always made her seem like she was floating and her pretty eyes and nose always blew me away. Her voice and her acting was all just so charming and sweet... so sad a tragic accident happened to her
Yay Phoebe Cates! I’ve been a fan of her husband Kevin for quite a long time (since 19 December 2008 from Despereaux). And I met him, too, at the Mesa Arts Center when I was 16 going on 17 (exactly 2 weeks before my 17th birthday). He was the nicest man I’ve ever met. I’m looking forward to the disclaimer miniseries. I would love to visit the blue tree boutique if ever I visit New York again in the future.
Jack Gleeson (Joffrey) - I feel like this was a lose-lose situation for him. The better acting he did, the more people hated him and I'm sure a lot of that hate bled through to his real life. I wouldn't be surprised if he was type cast too since he did such a good job at being the bad guy.
The "fans" were so mean to Jack Gleeson, so many of them couldn't separate the actor from the role and send a barrage of hate toward the poor boy. No surprise he no longer liked the role of Joffrey. Almost the same thing that happened to Jake Lloyd.
Jake's mom confirmed that the main reason he left was because of mental illness unrelated to the bullying. He's still very much a Star Wars fan to this day, apparently.
@@AdderTude Oh yeah, it's why I said almost the same. Jake's story is horrible and yet no one learned a damn thing and repeated the hate with Hayden as well. Sometimes fans are the worst part of a fandom.
It is so ridiculous that people can't separate acting from real life. If the character makes you hate him to the core, then the actor is doing a fabulous job. The crazies have taken their ignorance over to the Asian drama world and the crap has started there.
@@TheTrish0395 But that wasn't what happened, when GoT was at its hight droves of fans couldn't separate the actor from his role and attacked him on social media leading to him hating his role.
Rick Astley left at his peak, became a meme decades later, then returned on his terms, now writing and playing every part of the demos on his comeback 50. He played Glastonbury for the first time, two sets.
I was just thinking about it and Amanda Bynes doesn’t have a single movie or show that isn’t absolute gold! I really hope she is getting the help she needs because somewhere deep down is a genuinely talented and funny person who made a whole generation of kids laugh uncontrollably!
Mara's last film role in child acting was Lily Stone in Thomas & the Magic Railroad - while she did have a wonderful time on the film having been a huge Thomas and Shining Time Station fan and the fun experience on set in the Isle of Man and Toronto, those same aspects of how Hollywood was treating her was still taking an effect on her, hence she took her leave from acting until voiceover acting in Big Hero 6: the Series.
I was going to say one you left out was Cameron Diaz, who retired from acting following 2014's Annie until you showed that ET clip. She actually has three upcoming films, including Shrek 5. You could have spent a whole segment on Grace Kelly instead of just mentioning her in passing. She made 11 films before leaving Hollywood behind to marry Prince Ranier of Monaco. Three of her films were directed by Alfred Hitchcock, who spent the rest of his career trying to find someone of her caliber. You could have included the three male children from Step by Step. Following that series, Brandon Call and Josh Byrne had no more acting credits, and Christopher Castle voiced a character in four episodes of a TV series. There's also Ted Wass, who played Mayim Bialik's father in Blossom. Following that series, he became a director and didn't appear on screen except for one episode of Bialik's third sitcom, Call Me Kat. Portia De Rossi has retired from acting and reluctantly reprised her role as Lindsay in Arrested Development.
Angus Jones wants to come back to Hollywood as a baptized , observant Christian staying away from “filth”? What exactly is he going to do, star in Kirk Cameron movies?
I remember hearing that Michael Schoeffling was considered for the role of Superman in the early 90's. This was right before Nicolas Cage was cast in the Tim Burton Superman movie that didn't happen.
I'm surprised you left out Dolores Hart. She came to prominence costarring with Elvis Presley in Loving You, also costarred with him in Kid Creole, and did a number of other prominent movies such as Where the Boys Are. Then, at age 24 in 1963, as her star was still on the rise, she left it all behind to become a Benedictine nun.
To be fair to Daniel Day Lewis he does live a very quiet normal life. Met him many times before covid in Wicklow. Gent, locals don't bother him. His wife Rebecca is lovely lady too. Hope he comes back at some stage
A lot of actors never let go: George Burns, Betty White for 2. Good for them too. For a tolerant society, there sure is a lot of judgmentalism out there about how others choose to live their lives!
Michael Schoeffling was one of my biggest crushes after seeing him in Mermaids ❤❤❤ Literally took my breathe away when he popped up in this I hadn't thought of him in years!!!
Shirley Temple Black lived in Napa California for many years and her house was across the river from mine in the "Coves"..where we all had boat docks behind our houses. She was wonderful to all whenever she went out on the town.
Where's Jamie Gertz? The Lost Boys & Twister actor also starring in the TV show "Still Standing" for 4 seasons. She stepped away from acting to become a billionaire stock trader and now co-owns the Atlanta Hawks with her longtime husband!
I honestly feel bad for jack gleeson, dude got literal death threats for his portrayal of joffrey baratheon, Personally i just want to shake his hand he is a hell of an actor.
Yes, it's astounding at how many people can't seem to separate fantasy from reality. I watched with glee (pun intended) as Joffrey "faded away". Would I ever wish that on Jack? Absolutely not!
I was really glad to see a large number of child actors who got out of Hollywood and live wholesome lives instead of prioritizing the diminishing returns of looks, fame & money.
leaving hollywood to take care of her kids is the most noble thing ever. phoebe cates focused on taking care of her children while her husband kept acting full time, she's a good mom. (tired of it being noble for men to do the same thing that is commonplace for women)
I was hoping you might mention William Haines, who was one of the top billed leading men in films when he walked away from Hollywood because of his refusal to deny he was gay. He and his partner became the most popular interior designers in California
He was awesome in Young Frankenstein. He asked Gene Wilder if he could be in the movie, but didn’t want to be in the credits. And the line about making espresso was totally ad libbed. Gene Wilder almost ruined the scene because he was trying so hard not to laugh.

As many have probably said already, in regard of Bridget Fonda, please do NOT confuse Godfather II and III as the other one is universally known as the best in the series and the other as rubbish.
Part of me felt while watching Suite Life That the writers had a strong bias for Cole over Dylan As they gave Cole’s character of Cody the more important storylines, particularly his relationship drama and relegated Dylan’s character of Zack to mostly comedic side plot It’s a shame, as I feel from a personality standpoint, Dylan/Zack outshined his brother
I almost saw his wife, Sarah Michelle Gellar, while I was working at Legoland California. She and her kids lit up the LEGO Christmas tree in 2014. I was working a closing shift that day, too, but on the other side of the park. Got to meet Sean Maher (from Firefly) a few years later, though. Cool guy.
Ally Sheedy is another one that should have been shown. Also Phoebe Cates runs a boutique now! I would totally drop in there. I had a crush on her back in the day. LOL
I don’t think Seagal has planned to go anywhere anytime soon. He’s just been busy being a cop, dog trainer, helicopter pilot, a green beret; blues player; chef and painter for 40 years.

I saw Michael Schoeffling around 20 years ago at an airport during a layover. Looked just the same as in the 80s, just a touch of gray at the temples.
Love him ❤
I would have fainted dead away...
Frankie Muniz has been doing a lot of Nascar races in some of the higher-up series over the last couple years. He's not bad.
I remeber being so obsessed with Bridget Fonda in my teens I just loved the way she walked her long legs always made her seem like she was floating and her pretty eyes and nose always blew me away. Her voice and her acting was all just so charming and sweet... so sad a tragic accident happened to her
Loved her in "It Could Happen to You" and I'm not even a rom-com guy.
Accident? She got fat.
I think in the case of Steven Seagal, it was fame that left him behind
😂 I was looking for this comment
Yeah, everyone figured out he couldn’t act and tan like a turkey. It’s honestly funny to see him running in movies😂
His movies are all the same....... repetitive
@@Nola5427 also bad
Daniel Day-Lewis is a phenomenal actor. 🎉
A greatest actor of all time.

Yes!
Maybe he should play a comical Southern cop like his namesake did-- it'd be a change of pace, at any rate...
Geoffrey?
He was back in a Netflix show this year so he's returned
I wish he would've followed with a rom-com or something.
He was too good of an actor. And a lot of people who play villains, get too close to the role and can cause mental health problems.
@@TheTrish0395 But that wasn't what happened, when GoT was at its hight droves of fans couldn't separate the actor from his role and attacked him on social media leading to him hating his role.
Fonda was 9 years old during filming for Godfather II fyi. She was in Godfather III.
😂😂😂😂😂
Hahaha I had to go look that up myself when I heard it. After all, she WAS in Easy Rider, so it was possible.
bridget fonda was not in the godfather part 2
Edit: She was in the 3rd
She looks horrible in her old age!!!! 😧
Great shout out❤ I subbed.
I've been addicted to these videos... 🤣
Thank you for the update, WatchMojo..!! They're all amazing actors and actresses. 🤣
Not all of them!
Rick Astley left at his peak, became a meme decades later, then returned on his terms, now writing and playing every part of the demos on his comeback 50. He played Glastonbury for the first time, two sets.
He did a really good interview with Anthony Mason earlier this year.
you want leaving music at the peak? look at ABBA
She's back? There's a Shrek 5? Yay!❤
Because she lkeft acting, not fame, she got even more fame being a princess to one of the more popular monarchies at the time.
Angus Jones wants to come back to Hollywood as a baptized , observant Christian staying away from “filth”? What exactly is he going to do, star in Kirk Cameron movies?
Disney movies? Lol 😅🤣
He's no longer part of any Christian organization since 2016, Copernicus.
@@redacted2275did you just call that guy Copernicus as an insult?
I remember hearing that Michael Schoeffling was considered for the role of Superman in the early 90's. This was right before Nicolas Cage was cast in the Tim Burton Superman movie that didn't happen.
Beautiful man ❤
@@juliagulia5823 It's that jawline, lol.
Never heard of her
It's a fairly well known story of old Hollywood. Sister Dolores is still alive, in her mid-80s now, and is still a nun.
There’s a great documentary about her from 2012 - God is bigger than Elvis
Who?
I have never heard of her either so I guess that answers why she didn’t make the list
To be fair to Daniel Day Lewis he does live a very quiet normal life. Met him many times before covid in Wicklow. Gent, locals don't bother him. His wife Rebecca is lovely lady too. Hope he comes back at some stage
I like that Frankie Muniz is mentioned here, but they forgot to mention the fact that he is literally a NASCAR driver.
Someone said something happened where he forgot much of his acting history.
I've had this problem for 15 years. I could never sit back correctly, this is a god send
I feel like Gene Hackman being 94 years old and lookin like death is around the corner might be why you don't see much from him.
Doesn't stop Joe from being president...
Biden's only 81, nice try though.
Wow, this is one discusting comment. Specially about some like hackman.
And doesn’t know his asshole from next Tuesday at this point.
A lot of actors never let go: George Burns, Betty White for 2. Good for them too. For a tolerant society, there sure is a lot of judgmentalism out there about how others choose to live their lives!
The only person I really miss from this list is Daniel Day-Lewis.
Me too. Last of the Mohicans is a film I can watch over and over, but he was brilliant in everything he ever did as an actor.
Frankie Muniz is in Half Baked 2 which just released in 2024
😂😂
Yeah but he still left before!
Are you serious? Didn't realize that was a thing 😂
👏 Interesting to see how fame isn't for everyone! 🌟
When i was a kid i fell in love with Bridgette Fonda ,what a beautiful Lady.I'm glad she is OK.
Michael Schoeffling was one of my biggest crushes after seeing him in Mermaids ❤❤❤ Literally took my breathe away when he popped up in this I hadn't thought of him in years!!!
There's one actress who wasn't mentioned, Bridget Wilson. She was in Billy Madison and in the Mortal Kombat movie as Sonya Blade.
Shirley Temple Black lived in Napa California for many years and her house was across the river from mine in the "Coves"..where we all had boat docks behind our houses. She was wonderful to all whenever she went out on the town.
Daniel Day Lewis quit the Royal Shakespeare Company before turning to cinema. The audiences bothered him.
Amazing video watch mojo,fantastic job.
Bot
@Luke-cu7bf S!@t up!
Not everyone is a bot braniac! 😂🙄
Where's Jamie Gertz? The Lost Boys & Twister actor also starring in the TV show "Still Standing" for 4 seasons. She stepped away from acting to become a billionaire stock trader and now co-owns the Atlanta Hawks with her longtime husband!
14:40 it's worth mentioning that Freddie Prinze Jr. is also looking to open his own wrestling promotion
if Rick Moranis returns as dark helmet for space balls 2 i will freak out
I honestly feel bad for jack gleeson, dude got literal death threats for his portrayal of joffrey baratheon, Personally i just want to shake his hand he is a hell of an actor.
Whoa, what about Greta Garbo? Her most famous line is "I want to be alone."
I was hoping you might mention William Haines, who was one of the top billed leading men in films when he walked away from Hollywood because of his refusal to deny he was gay. He and his partner became the most popular interior designers in California
Gene Hackman, honestly from the Posieden Adventure to Hoosiers, totally love him💕
He was awesome in Young Frankenstein. He asked Gene Wilder if he could be in the movie, but didn’t want to be in the credits. And the line about making espresso was totally ad libbed. Gene Wilder almost ruined the scene because he was trying so hard not to laugh.
@@ItsJustLisa ...are you kidding?!
I love that movie, Gene Hackman...no?! I have to watch again 💕
I know the monster was the Father from Everyone Loves Raymond 💕
I had the pleasure of having Dylan Sprouse visit my karaoke bar in Syracuse one night. Great guy, great singer, very humble, and friendly.
Man I want moranis to make a comeback so bad…. Dude is a legend.
thumbnail is classy as hell
Would love to see prime Audrey Hepburn come back to acting. Would be quite the surprise to everyone, including science and medicine.
Celebrities are people too. Even they need a break from the game and glory, even if it IS permanent!
Y'know, they say that there is no 'Mary-Kate and Ashley' - it's just one person moving side-to-side REALLY fast.
How did you fail to mention "She's the Man" for Amanda Bynes?! By far her best performance.
Am I the only one who, when she said Jack Gleeson , immediately thought of Jackie Gleason?
Phoebe Cates and Kevin Kline have one of Hollywood's best marriages. The whole family is in the movie 'The Anniversary Party.'
Daniel Day Lewis is a phenomenal actor, he's earned a nice long break.
I don’t call taking other jobs in the same industry as stepping back. Besides you missed lots of others who really did quit
I now understand why they all left fame behind
Deanna Durbin surprisingly omitted. Walked away from acting as the #2 box office draw at age 27. Anne Frank had her photo on the attic wall.
Amanda Bynes was very good in Easy A. My wife loves that movie, and it is actually good enough to hold my attention.
Bridget Fonda was in Godfather 3, not 2 hahahaha 😂
There was a time when you could see Gene Hackman in 2 to 3 movies a year. Good on him for retiring.
I thought the thumbnail was clickbait...
yeah, that is rough 😂
@@sneakgamecrazy She's 60

It is, and it's part of the reason Bridget Fonda wants NOTHING to do with any spotlight; it's cruel.
As many have probably said already, in regard of Bridget Fonda, please do NOT confuse Godfather II and III as the other one is universally known as the best in the series and the other as rubbish.
Godfather 3 wasnt bad not close to the first two of course first was the best and are universally known
Part of me felt while watching Suite Life
That the writers had a strong bias for Cole over Dylan
As they gave Cole’s character of Cody the more important storylines, particularly his relationship drama and relegated Dylan’s character of Zack to mostly comedic side plot
It’s a shame, as I feel from a personality standpoint, Dylan/Zack outshined his brother
Some of these are not that they chose to leave but were forced to leave because they weren't getting any roles. There is a huge difference.
Amen to that....Hollywood left several of them.
Freddie Prinze Jr is also apparently starting his own wrestling promotion
I almost saw his wife, Sarah Michelle Gellar, while I was working at Legoland California. She and her kids lit up the LEGO Christmas tree in 2014. I was working a closing shift that day, too, but on the other side of the park. Got to meet Sean Maher (from Firefly) a few years later, though. Cool guy.
@AdderTude He's also a chef and had a restaurant.
I really thought this was a Mint Mobile ad. I was looking for the skip button. 😂😂😂
To This Day, I Can Go Into A Bathroom, think of Phoebe Cates and make the magic happen. Ha.
Ally Sheedy is another one that should have been shown. Also Phoebe Cates runs a boutique now! I would totally drop in there. I had a crush on her back in the day. LOL
Who didn't?😂
I don’t think Seagal has planned to go anywhere anytime soon. He’s just been busy being a cop, dog trainer, helicopter pilot, a green beret; blues player; chef and painter for 40 years.
And rumor is he still is in hiding from Jean-Claude Van Damme
His movies are all the same.......repetitive!
In most cases, here, it's not so much that they left fame behind -- fame left them behind.
