hey guys, im so glad you like the video, i never expected this response, especially from non italians ❤️ if you want to, check out my other videos, where i translate mahmood's songs in english :) i would also like to address the "ghetto" clip. i dont think the lady was necessarily being racist, there seems to have been more of a mistranslation: she seems to believe that "periferia" means "ghetto", when actually it's almost the opposite (suburbs, outskirts...). i think she misunderstood the lyrics and tried to be #woke and it failed on her lol
@@celesteyumiantonacci5992 He did. His real surname is "Mahmoud" and he decided to replace the second "u" with a "o" in his stage name, so that it sounds like "my mood" (mah mood), since in his songs he talks about his feelings and his way to see things, people, places etc. He said that in an interview.
KaFilipe47 no because his song talk about a poor family of perifery, and she wanted to know if there is personal experience inside or is just a simbol. It doesn’t matter that he is muslim or what, she wanted to understand better the song, because when you listen to it seems very personal
@@zoecirina2247 we're not talking about alessandro being muslim or whatever ahah his point was just about the journalist using ghetto as a synonym of suburbs, when in italian they're two different things. Big fail but understandable since the journalist wasn't italian, I mean it happens, but kinda annoying for us and I guess for him tho
That question was stupid... I can feel some kind of arrogance in asking that, it looks like she wanted to prove if he was a real one from the streets or just an impostor. Irrelevant question
Zoe Cirina More than an "inappropriate" question (like some have called it here), it's an extremely superficial question. She clearly didn't bother researching neither the singer's background (he was raised by his mother and got all catholic sacraments), nor did she bother checking whether Italy actually has "ghettos". The word "ghetto" here is a neighbourhood where individuals of a particular religious/ethnic group (are forced to) live. It's in no way a sinonym of "periferia" (the city's outskirts). Also, other than gypsies camps, I've never seen ghettos in Italy. There are poorer or richer neighbourhoods, but Italians and non-Italians cohesist in both kind of neighbourhood.
When I speak to non-native English speakers I always speak slowly and clearly and avoid weird and complicated words... some of these interviewers need to learn to do the same!
They were a tad bit too fast for him to understand at some point. He was probably nervous as well, and it must really hard beimg nervous and have to both pay attention to what is being said and think about the right words with the right pronunciation to answer the question
@@fable_enthusiast I think it was just the irish accent. I am italian but my english is pretty good for being non-native I never struggle to understand but even I didnt' understand what that Irish guys said lol
This is super funny, lmao. xD Also, what a trip down memory lane. (I know this only happened a few months ago, but it feels longer for some reason, time flies xD)
I don't think he was confused at the lady to asked about "the ghetto" so much as he was in just complete disbelief that was being asked....it's a really racist question tbh
Both he and even the translator (the guy in the white shirt next to him) didn't understand the question because of the pronounciation of the word "ghetto", the fact that "periferia" (city's outskirts) is in no way a ghetto and, more importantly, the fact that ghettos don't really exist in Italy. Other than romani people, no ethnic/religious group tends to live separated from the rest of the population.
To all the native English speakers, SPEAK SLOWLY PLZ 😭😭. I came in England in 2014 and yet I get confused at what ppl ask me, so I always have to ask if they can repeat their phrase. I miss Italy and not worrying about english. I was born in Italy and raised there for 9 years, and Im romanian but I feel a deeper connection to Italy. (Sos for the info xx)
