Icon is insanely expensive for a 7 day cruise, they need to lower the price on the interior rooms. Plus why am I getting charged for 2 people when I wanted to book as a single passenger.

'Price quite low'...not a chance, especially compared to pre-covid pricing. I do understand that everything cost more now, but from a value standpoint and as well what the cruise lines are charging for additional activities that are not complimentary is insane! Supply and demand...really hope the deman starts to level off!

It costs more for me to book a round trip flight, rent cars, and a hotel for 7 days than it does to go on a cruise ship.
They have absolutely massive ships with plenty of activities for only $1-$2K per week. Which is an incredible price

Still extremely affordable vacations. Pre covid pricing for everything was cheaper lol. Im getting cruises that sre averaging out to $100 a night. Thats a great deal considering it travels, free things to do on board plus all food. Name a decent hotel that are $100 per night. Then factor in food, activities. You’ll be coming out way higher price than a cruise. A weekend to orlando would cost me more than a week on a cruise ship

But cruising is turning into Spirit Airlines.
It used to be all inclusive, but since the 2010s they have been partitioning services that were part of the cruise reservation and charging additional fees.
I expect it will eventually apply to luggage too.

    • @deepshotone
      @deepshotone 8 місяців тому

@@jumpy2xstreaming Great question. Curuise prices have gone up at least 25-30% since the restart of the pandemic. Keep in mind they had to recoup the missed revenue for being down for 18 months. Not to mention they have to cover the cost of so many new ships that have entered the fleet since 2020.
As for Carnival you can expect to pay $1500-$2000 per person for their newer ships like Mardi Gras and Jubilee. The price will vary depending on the cabin type and and the floor you're on.
example: inside cabins (no windows) and ocean view cabins are a lot cheaper than balcony cabins and suites. If you want a better value you may want to book one of their older ships. The older ships have fares that are under $1000 per person. But you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not going on one of the new ship.
Food is included with your cruise fair so dont worry about starving. There's plenty of food to eat. As a option you can book a specialty dining restaurant. These normally coast $40-$50 per person but its totally worth it. But once again this is just an added option.
Alcoholic drinks: Beer $6-$8 Cocktails/mixed drinks $12-$15 and wine $15-$18...If you and partner are average drinkers your bar tab at the end of the cruise (7day cruise) should be about $400-$600. In my opinion that's not bad for 7 days
Excursions are usually $50-$80 per person Excursions usually last 4.5-5 hours
The website that Ive been using for 17 years is called Vacationstogo.com .. They specialize in cruising. I highly recommend this company. They literally have 1000's of cruises to choose from and they are now taking bookings for 2026 sailings...
If you want more info I suggest going on UA-cam and search "cruising" There are lots of content creators that have tons of info on cruise ships, destination packing suggestions and everything in between.

    • @deepshotone
      @deepshotone 6 місяців тому

@jumpy2xstreaming great question. Once on board the main things you'll spend your money on are drinks, souvenirs, specialty dining. My girlfriend and I usually spend approximately $100-150 per day on drinks. (Give or take) Drinks average $8-$17. We usually have 5-6 drinks each per day.
Specialty dining usually is $45-60 per person but keep in mind specialty dining is just an option. You can eat in the mdr(main dining room) and buffet and you'll be just fine. Not to mention there are plenty of free(included) places to eat on board.
Excursions should always be purchased before your cruise. Most people explore the ports on their own. With that being said, excursions run $60-100 perperson...
Last but not least souvenirs. Every cruise tons of gift shops on board. As a matter of fact every night they'll have a special on everything from ship merchandise, to watches to jewelry. So don't get carried away. Lol. So in conclusion, we normally spend about $700 to$1000 for the week. But please keep in mind you'll have complete control of your budget. Some folks spend way more than that, but many people especially non drinkers spend significantly less....
      Hope that helps

They made a come back by almost giving cruises away for a year.. I went on two cruises that were priced at $200 plus port fees and taxes and they gave us $200 onboard spending.. I went on a third that was higher priced, but they gave us $500 on board spending.. Now that prices are at all time highs, and they have raised the prices of almost everything on board, I suspect it will level out.. But, people that love to cruise will continue to cruise at any price, just like people pay real high entry fees to go to certain theme parks.

Less total people spread over a larger area. Though realistically, need much higher budget per night for land based tropical vacations.

I don't agree with the change in the business model to raise prices based on land travel. Its an apples to oranges model. I cruised once on Norwegian and had a great time, but I learned that I was more interested in land travel and spending time walking the various countries and towns. I may chose to go on a cruise again, but if the prices between land and cruise are within a view hundred to $1k, I am going to choose land travel. I have more control then being stuck on a ship for weeks. Also factor in the weather, which effects your enjoyment on a ship. I got sea sickness and it was a horrible day for me. These cruise ships are not based in US like the airline. If they based in US they will never make a profit due to wages. They not even get any Covid funds as they not base in US.
Only exception is Carnival Cruises did receive $6 billion in a backdoor deal after the Federal Reserve announced plans to buy “unlimited” bonds to free up capital for lenders to invest in companies crumbling under corporate debt, such as Carnival also it’s not a bailout.

Cruising demand is a secular growth story but the stocks are trading like the spike in demand is temporary. The growth in demand is really being driven by first time cruisers.
As a first time cruiser myself, I can tell you that I had no interest whatsoever in cruising until I agreed to go on a cruise. We had one of the best vacations of our life on the cruise and we have already booked several more. Many of these first time cruisers, like myself, see the fun and value in cruising and we are now hooked on cruising. The forward P/Es on these companies are modest and their growth is exploding rapidly due to high demand/limited inventory…..sound like a good combination for higher prices and full ships. Appears that Royal Caribbean is a real standout in this market but not the largest operator. MSC is entering the U.S. market aggressively (see new Miami port facilities). I believe the secular bull story in cruising is intact

Its absurd that you cover the so called "dark days" yet at 1:12 show the background picture of ships being destroyed and don't cover why. The cruse industry had to get cash to pay their debts during the pandemic, the way they did this was by scraping their ships (1:12 background pic). Those ships were good for another 10-20 years they had to be destroyed for cash. 9:30 Do you understand the amount of pollution it takes to scrap a ship of this size and also build another to replace it?
Also basic supply and demand economics 2:45, "why are cruise ships recovering so fast with revenue" oh maybe its more because the demand is back pre covid (plus your normal growth rate that's relatively constant) but theirs a significant amount of less ships thus the ticket prices are more expensive than otherwise would be if they weren't forced to get rid of so many ships for cash
Great journalism right here in this video......

Worth noting that whilst the industry has recovered from the pandemic, the quality of product is actually worse than pre-Covid. Something that is only exacerbated by the trend toward these mega ships that are akin to factory farming for vacationers. You would struggle mightily to get me on Icon of the Seas, for example.
Prices are going up yet the level of customer service, food and itineraries are arguably going in the other direction. A few lines still pride themselves on these things but the picture with Royal Caribbean and Carnival is patchy at best.

I'm a solo world traveler, I don't like the idea of being stuck in a ship full of kids running around and have 3 buffets/ day. I don't like crowds!
The closest cruises I did were unique and short, it was mainly to connect to my next destination.
Many years ago, my 1st ship voyage was from Venice to West Coast Greece and bus to Athens. The Minoan line was a combination of cruise lines+ commuters transportation, I like the idea of multiple pricing and freedom to choose your meals at different pricings restaurants. As a solo budget traveler, I brought my own sandwiches, cookie, fruits etc😅 I remember it cost approx 70 euros each way, with a share cabin, my roommate was German, we had great conversations during the 12 hours voyage 😊. There's were backpackers who sleep on the dock for 20 euros with their sleeping bags 😅 there's a pet kernal. On the lower deck, there's trucks transporting goods. Family cars where European travel within the continent. The 12 hours journey was very pleasant, sunrise, Sun set, and the Minoan bus transport bmw to Athens 😊
I also took the 2 nights Nile River Cruise in September 2021 from Aswan to Luxor, Egypt. I didn't like 3 buffets/day. But the temples stops were awesome.
I love my Turkish Rivera wooden yatch cruise, 3 days 2 nights! The skipper docked along the coast, cook fresh Mediterranean meals, we all jumped into the sea to swim! We hiked the st Nicholas Island before sunset, strolled on a resort town etc. There were 12 guests, 6 cabins with showers! I would like to repeat this voyage soon! 😊

im glad there are so many cruise haters in the comments, hopefully it keeps the prices lower LOL they dont know what they're missing. its a much easier and interesting way to travel...how many trips can you take and go to 3-4 different countries in one shot, all while having unlimited drinks/food/entertainment.
The "sardine can" idea that everyone talks about can't be farther from the truth, these things are MASSIVE, you end up running into new people every single day, even up to the last day.
But hey....pay your 5k to stay on a beach in Cancun LOL

These buisness models seem destructive. It makes sense that airlines can charge more at the last minute because air travel is utilitarian, and while it is cruel to extort someone who has to travel last minute for a funeral or because they got stranded somewhere, it is like most cruel things, good business.
Cruises are totally different. They are purely for entertainment not utilitarian and it is hard to take advantage of last minute pricing when you need to book time off work. You can hope your cruise will go on sale later but if it fills up you're out of luck. If prices go up last minute travellers can simply skip the cruise and go another time. opportunistic cruisers who till fill out your last minute slots are gonna be mostly retired or otherwise under-employed people who are low wealth demographics.
Also trying to narrow the discount relative to land based travel is a mistake. Cruises are priced lower than land based travel because they are worse. You have a tight schedule no control over your itinerary seasickness limited choice of fascilities on board etc. The discount vs land is why you go on a cruise, unless you're just obsessed with boats, which most people are not.
