I used to work the bar in a crappy nightclub but the DJ would play (me) a few techno tracks before the handbags came out. This was love a at first listen - not sure it ever really got the fame it deserved.
The new Dune 2020 movie trailer came out today. In my head I was trying to think of that old techno song "The spice Must Flow". I found it, and here I am in 2020.
Classic track.. This was one of my favorites...Damn, it feels like just yesterday it was 1992 and dancing to this at the rave... Now in my 50s and look back at my life and smile. GREAT TIMES, GREAT MUSIC
1989 The Beacham Theater, Orlando Florida, everybody bouncing, drinking lots of water, lol, DJ Kimball Collins tearing it up!!! Best of times for sure!!!
Ian and I first met in the US here he was visiting Eugene. I designed a few graphics for him and the first cassette cover which we printed at kinkos copies. I missed the boat when he returned to England with an expired visa. Good times indeed! The demo tape eroded away to nothing, I have a cassette insert still though as a memory. He was beyond most artists that I worked with in a cerebral way. Psiklon
Wow this was played on Mars FM in 1991 ! I remembered recording this onto my cassette tape and lost it and found it on Napster, and lost it again and now it's here! 25 years passed in a blink!
Downtown Los Angeles 1:30am standing in line outside an abandoned warehouse in between the train yards listening to the Bass from inside rattle the walls outside. Enter a smoke filled room with blinding strobe lights, and pulsating lazer lights directing 300+ ravers bouncing in unison facing the giant wall of speakers. The unmistakable sound of the nitrous tank filling many of balloons. An experience that will never be duplicated again. Dub Step can't hold the ball sack of that era . EVER!!!
Madd73 Brother, I was there in ‘91. Real warehouse raves were just hitting their stride in L.A. and the scene was intense. Oh how I wish I could go back just one more time.
I was a metalhead in "91 when Iwas tuning the dial on the radio. This was the first tune I heard on MarsFM out of Newport Beach. I fell in love with electronic music from this song on. I no longer listen to this genre (drum 'n'bass now) but it sure does bring back some memories. Good shit
Ah, what a great great shame. Just searched for this great old tune and found out he has passed away. He will be remembered always by me, that's for sure. Magical times and some amazing tunes. RIP dude...
First heard this at Club Metro in Cali back in 1991. I was mainly into acid house but this track pulled me into techno. A perfect example of electronic music in clubs during the early 90s. Perfect!
Wow, finaly found this classic track. Back in 1991 a pirate radio station came on air in Nottingham called 'Rave FM'. I was only 14 at the time and one of my friends at school told me about it. As soon as I got home I tuned in and this was the track playing I'll never forget that day. Spent the rest of the night listening to Rave FM. Oh and within a year (at 15) I'd gone to my first Rave, started smoking weed, doing acid, speed and Es. Now I'm 38 fully tea total but my god were the music, drugs and raves something else back then.
Took me 6 months in 91 and had it imported to Los Angeles. Heard it on Mars Radio LA back in the day I felt the same pain back then trying to find this classic.
+Tim Robinson pretty much the same age/period story, just that here in France there was only one Radio streaming Techno, 2 hours a week. Radio Galaxie in North France, near Belgium (that"s why). Awesome times, awesome tracks. That's real Techno.
‘91 Honda Civic Kenwood head unit, pushing an Orion 2100 HCAA and Hi Fonics Cyclops amps driving 12 MB Quart and Rockford Fosgate speakers and 2 10” Kicker comp subs. All while cruising Whittier and Hollywood Boulevards to this and countless other tunes. Good times!!! Watching Dune as I type.
I bought this CD in Houston at Record Rack after hearing the track. I loaned it to so many people over the years that I'm not sure I even still have it. Great tune and cool video!
Eon was one of the very first artists that pulled me into this genre. This woman I liked at a record store I used to hang out at said "you got to buy this, today. It's awesome." I did and it took me on this excellent musical journey for years. For years, I yearned for more Eon and to learn more about the artist who created the tracks that stimulated my mind, kept me company, and made me dance but I never had much luck. While discussing Dune today, this song came to mind and I ended up here and noticed your words. Sad. I will be sure to make sure he lives on through his music by sharing with those who will enjoy it. Thank you for posting this.
I think it's got something to do with cabaret Voltaire, or at least one of the members, possibly Richard Kirk? You should check out some aliases on discogs. Ultramarine is Richards Kirk's more fun downtempo stuff
Dune 2 got me here. I still have my original 12 inch vinyl copy of this. So futuristic and ahead of its time in the early 90s. The Spice must flow y’all!!!!!
Wow this brings back some memories! (very fuzzy, drug addled memories ;-) Was searching for some long lost classic dance tracks on Google and found this. Pure gold. Shame I cant dance (much less roll) like that any more and I would look ridiculous if I tried but the memories are awesome and I don't regret a moment of it :)
I remember hearing it at the Bonham Exchange, San Antonio, Texas summer 1991. First time I heard it, I knew I had to have it. As such, I went to WaterLoo Records in Austin and got the singe. About two years ago, I exchanged an email with Ian about his music. I am glad I was able to correspond with him as he was so pleasant. He will be missed dearly!
Just checking in here with all the other old folks, lol. We were so lucky to have been there at the birth of techno. That scene and energy will never be replicated. Rave till the grave!
Some I was sitting here smoking a bowl watching a movie called Dune, and this popped into my head!! Man, I can't believe I survived the 90's! #Limelight
Convertible night driving when we came out of the Newport News tunnel in Va Beach playing this so loud the side mitrors were vibrating ... 90s oh the fking memories ❤
One of the best dance songs ever. Between this and 'Final Warning', I'm not sure which one rocks my world the most. Ian was such a great artist, it's so sad that he's gone from this world. It makes me treasure my copy of "VOID DWELLER" even more. Thanks for the music and the great memories of my youth, Ian! Hope you're rockin' cloud 9.
1991 Sarasota FL-I remember the day when the guy in the record store we frequented said hey check this out- I had never heard anything like it & have now in introduced my children to it-ur welcome kids

My mate Shane used to turn up in our small village with his big bass cannon and put this one on amongst others. He had a MK1 Ford Escort with all the chrome across the bumper. Beautiful car, beautiful music ,big ugly guy driving it! My m8.
Yeah, warehouse parties in the 90s, hearing these kinds of sounds for the first time. And before it was all formularized and commercialized. The spice must flow.
Wow, talking about the cars in which we experienced this music...it takes me back! I jammed to "Spice" in my 1988 Chevy Corsica...those factory 6X9 rear speakers put out surprising thump! Now I'll download "Spice", and enjoy it in my new Acura TL with the upgraded "ELS" audio surround sound system. Wow, times have changed!
Thank you Ian for making such a cool track. I am sorry you are gone but your memmory lives on. I danced my ass off on many a weekend at the clubs in downtown Dallas in the 90's.
Respect. Proud to have few of Eon's tunes from back in the day. Vinyl Solution, west London 90s forever, at least for him now it will never fade away. RIP.
huge LOL reading the comments here and realizing we're ALL 50 yrs old now and still listening to this music :)
Your lucky you’re only 50 😂
I'm 50 in July 2024 so I'm still young....

I used to work the bar in a crappy nightclub but the DJ would play (me) a few techno tracks before the handbags came out. This was love a at first listen - not sure it ever really got the fame it deserved.

Don't forget Front 242, 808 State, NIN, Prodigy, Cat Rapes Dog, Chemical Bros., Meat Beat Manifesto, etc., the 80's were the best!!!
The Beacham Theater AKA "AAAZ", Orlando Florida, DJ Kimball Collins tearing it up in 1989!!!
