What a pleasure to see someone who's head was turned by a Klein in the early 90's leading up to this stunning and rare collection. Whereas the most collectible years are those he explained (early 1990's), I rode Klein's from the 1995-1996 era and felt they were right at the pinnacle of Gary Klein's design ingenuity. Kept my Pulse II and Team Attitude both of which I still ride today. Thanks for sharing.
I noticed that nearly all of them are using Flite saddles which was the standard for mtb and road during that wonderful time. They were my butt’s favorite. Really enjoy these retro videos. Thx
You HAVE to comeback to tell us more about these anodized bright collored cranks and callipers and mint rims. Those one piece handlebars and stem are amazing. Just incredible!
When I started mountain biking around this era these bikes were simply an unattainable dream! Super cool to be taken back to that time... This kind of bike is a big part of why I like cyclocross bikes so much nowadays
Kleins are works of art as much as they are bikes. They re some of the most amazing human powered machines ever created. Thanks for the tour of this incredible collection.
Klein in green white and pink still a awesome look. They're so simple and clean looking. Nice to see them sporting flite saddles still the one and only saddle
My indelible Klein moment happened around 1989 in Whistler, BC. It was the summertime and there was a pretty important mountain bike race happening. A lot of the big brands were there. And then this woman (I think it was Missy Giove) shows up with the most gorgeous bike I had ever seen. A Klein in a snow white paint job with pink highlights. Her team mate had one too. They kind of had a stormtrooper vibe about them. The tube diameters where insane (back then anyway). Massive headtubes with custom headsets. I just could believe how far they where pushing bike design. It made me excited for what might come next. That was Klein!
Nice collection and tour. I remember many of these bikes in their original form. The flashy color schemes were never my style but were popular in the MTB world through part of the 80s and 90s.
Just stumbled across this video. I have a late '93 Attitude ('94 graphics like he said) in Puget Morning that I bought NEW! Still have it and still love it. Having a refresh done as I type this but can't wait to get it back and admire it. Truly special bikes for sure.
Great collection and a very passionate owner. Thank you for making this video! I just restored my Klein Mantra in Blastberry Chameleon (what a great name for a color scheme that is....!). And although form the less sought after Trek period (97) I love this bike, will never leave my garage.
My friend's were able to afford Klein's. I purchased a Miyata. That was in the late 1980's. About a little over ten years ago, I saw a "Pinnacle" for sale & I was able to get it for pretty cheap.
I bought my first Klein in November of 1988 (89 Pinnacle) and still have it. I raced it all over the NE USA from 89-95. I remember guys coming up to me asking " WTF is that thing ?" in 89-90. By 1991 everybody knew what they were...
a few years back i scored a 92 specialized M2 Frame, i then was able to get Ned Overend to sign it at a bike expo. Its hangs on my wall as art now, when i was teen in the 90's its was Ned, Tomac and Tinker all day!!!
@@carravagio16 I had a 97 M2 Stumpy Comp, loved it, must have done 1000s of miles on it, but let it die outside because I got an Enduro SL in 2007, wish I'd preserved it :(
Incredible collection ! I have five KLEINS myself . Two that I've owned since new . I raced on Gary Kleins east coast team . Wish I still had all the parts . We were given new XTR bikes and the team got six new frames for spares . I still enjoy just looking at them sometimes . Thanks for the great video .
Absolutely fantastic, thanks Andy , thanks David , our local bike shop had a frame set in the window kio I think , we just stood and dreamed , this brings back wonderful memories, top job
Here in Seattle ,early 90s Klein and Cannodale , Fat Chance , bridge stone, yeti , specialized, trek , Rodriguez stuff was the norm ...I had Cannodale love at first then road Klein's ...kids, marriage ,work and I kept the last bike since 98' ... attitude race (made in Chehalis Wa. USA) I converted to a drop 700cm 35mm tires, disc front , cantilever rear with extensions on the post ... standard compact gear. . . Stolen Christmas day 2020 . aaarrgghhh ...but the big used shop near had the frame for 50 bucks . . . I'm doing a hoo Koo e Koo Frankenbuild to ride the muck season out. But your collection has me wanting a Klein again. . . I had the years wrong with the buy out , because mine said made in Chehalis but maybe it was a lie ...I kept it because of that . Chehalis is not 2hrs driving in good traffic from Seattle.
Wholly crap those are nice! I worked in a very large bike shop during that exact time and we carried all the high end bikes including Klein. The most popular brands at my shop were Fat Chance or Independent since they were local builders. Loved a lot of the parts manufacturers of the time including Cook Brothers Ringle Sycros Chris King etc etc.
I have a Klein Aura IV road bike, I think a 2005. As much as I've ridden it, I never have had to do anything to it except tires. I love it to this day, the blue color is still beautiful.
Fantastic bikes. I still have the green/white/red Klein Attitude I bought and built new in 1991. I can't even begin to guess the amount of miles I've put on that bike.
Very cool. I have a 2000 Attitude Comp. Although not nearly on the level of these, I absolutley adore it. My dad and I drove 2 hrs to the closest Klein dealership in Cincinnati Ohio to buy it new. I'll never sell it.❤
When I think back to the early 90's MTB scene one of the main images I see is Tinker Juarez riding a red Klein in the Grundig World Cup. I always wanted a Klein but I could never afford one. Happy Days.
EXCUSE ME? Trek had NOTHING to do with these amazing bikes. This was ALL Chehalis, WA* KLEIN, dammit! Trek RUINED Klein and then shut it down. Sorry, Trek deserves ZERO credit for the creativity, innovation, uniqueness and beauty of these dream bikes. (Can you tell from my tone a slight distaste for Trek?!!!) * But Klein hails from my hometown, so put San Jose on the damn map too!
So this is where they are hoarded lol. I had the original Attitude and wow did it improve my racing results back in early 90s. Now I'd love to hang one on the wall beside my Carrera team road bike (I also raced this bike back then, as an amateur). I see the 1990 Atti going for $5k today despite the drop in resales of vintage bikes. Maybe I will settle for a Pinnacle or other less pricey one to decorate with. And ride it once in a while if I can find one large enough.
Incredible colors. Just impressive all around. Bikes with emotion, energy, originality. Only if Specialized and the rest of the matte everything world would take a hint and paint new frames with something other than these rubbish colors today.
OMG, what a collection! Wow, all the really good stuff! Thank you for sharing. So much Klein goodness. And the Yeti and the Yo Eddie didn't go unnoticed either. Wow, they're so perfect. I still have my Klein "It Could Change Your Priorities!" poster! I didn't see one on his wall! (It predates his collection by almost 10 years, so it isn't really a fit anyway.) PS What Trek did to Klein (and Bontrager and Fisher, and...) was BLASPHEMY! Shame on Trek. If you need just ONE reason to hate Trek, that's it.
The Treks have a Bontrager RSL one piece handlebar now. I would say they took Fisher and Klein technology and put it into their Trek Procaliber now. I disagree. 29ers roll better and the 27.5 has best of both worlds. They also have integrated internal frame cable routing like these bikes in the video today. Times just changed. Someone had to keep it all going. Trek did so...
I'm not sure what I'm impressed with more, the bikes or the loft. Kona, and GT had the coolest paint back then. Did I see panaracer smoke and farmer John tyres?
Incredible collection! That said, it pains me to see all of those nice derailleur springs fully twisted; It's wearing out the derailleurs without even riding them. Small chainring / small cog for long term storage. Sparks in Daytona
99 Attitude Comp. Jamaica Gold. Still turns heads. I have lost a lot of blood and brain cells because of her but she’s still absolutely gorgeous. Frame is the only thing original. She is looking badass nowadays. 👍🏼👍🏼
Still riding my KLEIN Adroit from 92. Bought it from my brother 20 years ago after he got his 97 Adroit. The problem is I can't find new chainrings for early shimano XT components on this planet. Any suggestions? Thank you
the first time i saw a klein was at the earls court bike show 1992 where they had a stand. (there was an adroit on some scales that was under 20lb) they were fantastic bikes for sure but way out of my budget (and still are tbh now).
Amazing, just Amazing!! I would love to share my Klein with Andy. It’s been with me since 92’ with under 20miles of wear How can I connect privately with this devoted collector?
That's an impressive collection, when I look at it quick. But in fact, some of the paintjobs are repaints. This makes the collection less impressive to me. Because it's not much more as to buy some old Kleins and to let make a quick repaint into all the colours what the owner wants. It's just a very quick way, to get what someone wants for its money. To me it is far away from a "real Klein collection". ... Exept all the originals, like the Sea and Sky Attitude, the Gator Adroit or the Rain Forest Adroit. But I agree that is still an impressive view to see all these Kleins and of course, respect to the owner, that he invests so much money for the repaints. For sure, he is not less a Klein fan as all the others, who don't spend this much money for their Kleins or who like the original pintjobs more as the repaints. Every Klein fan is a kind of special, everyone in its own personal way. :-) The following Kleins look like repaints to me: - Attitude Gator (MC1 with MC2 Decals) ... Even if he says that it's original paint, to me it looks like a repaint. - Adroit Moonrise MC1 ... To me it looks too much orange and too less pink. - Adroit Storm MC1... For some reason it looks a bit like a paintjob from Etoe to me. - Attitude Nightstorm MC2 ... It also looks like Etoe to me. (At MC2 weren't painted screws in the frame.) What do the others think? Do you also see repaints and which one?
I take no issue with repainting them. It's paint. They were painted new in Chehalis, so why does it matter? I see what you're saying, but I'd much rather see a beauty like a Klein properly restored and coated with a beautiful new paintjob to showcase the amazing talent that went into those bikes. Let the beauty shine, I say! And the rebuttal makes no sense to me - why leave a Klein with damaged, scratched, oxidized paint and corrosion be? Serves no purpose, other than to "prove" it was used (and abused)?
Gary sold Klein for the same reason many sell their business…to get away from the daily hard work, settle down and retire. Trek bought Klein to both acquire company technology but also eliminate a competitor. Trek did the same with Gary Fisher and Bontrager
I live in Los Angeles and every once in awhile I'll see a veteran mountain biker on his 90's Klein out in the wild. It's always a treat.
I'd be surprised that it hadn't been stolen by African Americans yet
Awesome bikes - and from a great era. The 90s were the 'golden period' for the sport. And I say that as a fan of the current scene.....

My thoughts echo his... Everyone who rode in the 90s drooled over them bikes, but ridiculously expensive.... Beautiful bike collection for sure.... 👌💜

Heck with the Klein's, that "Yo" in the background! That bike was magic.

Thank you Andy, for sharing your collection. And yes, they are more expensive now than they were in the day ! Hahah. You were right with that comment.
This dude knows his stuff, all incredible bikes!
Klein was know for the color schemes of their bikes. Kind of influenced me to start painting.

Worried about those cooks cranks cracking just sitting on the taper for years? Didn't spot any Grafton Joystix cranks?
Broke the frame on my SWorks , found a Klein Adroit , rode it for 2 seasons , sold it , still regret it ….
Why did Garry Klein sold his brand to Trek and why did Trek got rid of it soon after..?

I have 14 you reach out to me the fire orange with the yellow
He better buy the Panaracer tire company to keep the rubber on.
I bought a 94 Fervor in 94….moved out to Colorado with it….rode for 2 years amd my girlfriend stole it from me when we broke up 😂
Did you ask the question that if some random guy knocked on his door and was there with cash in hand.....would he sell the bike?
Notice the saddle choice....
