Cersei absolutely despised feeling powerless, stemming from the subservient role of women in Westeros. Like getting forced into marriage, first with Robert and almost Loras, and even saying things like "I should have been born a man". After a lifetime of feeling suppressed, anyone who was remotely perceived as wanting to oppress Cersei quickly became an enemy, only deepening the hatred and power lust. Here, we finally get to see years and years of build up pay off, accepting the witch's prophecy, gladly bombing hundreds of people like a terrorist, and taking the Iron Throne. None of Cersei's enemies even considered something this extreme was possible. My favorite character and favorite episode

Arya killing Frey is so satisfying we all go nuts and sometimes zone out on the next scene but I think that's the one that's artistically superior. A beautiful backdrop of the snowy Godswood with LF in the shadows looking intriguing as ever. Sansa sitting in the same spot Ned sat forever ago in the first episode. The slowed down Stark theme, like daggers to the heart. When he says "forgive me my lady if you're at prayer" and she dolefully replies "I'm done with all that". That's full circle to when Cersei scoffed at her for naively putting faith in the cruel Gods. She speaks very little but conveys all that she's been through with her eyes: "The past is gone for good. You can sit here mourning its departure or prepare for the future". Forget all the commentary and analysis for a sec and just soak in what an uncanny road it's been for both of them! Out of everyone that's come and gone, it's these two who are still standing. " *A picture of me on the Iron Throne and you by my side* " 😈

Coming out this episode I feel everyone had the same reaction. Even when I watch it now I'm shook by just how many crazy turn of events is packed in a single episode! Each one hit like a brick wall. In one stroke it gives you the resolution to everything that was built up for so long and leaves you with a revelation that you never thought about! This is like a multiple watch episode cause the first time you're in a shell shocked state. At the beginning of last episode Tyrion foreshadows by telling Dany the story of Mad King hiding caches of wildfire in King's Landing. By the end of Bastards that's the last thing on your mind. Hats off to Ramin Djawadi's music. The music alone is better than most shows' finales. The way it adds to the suspense of the Sept scene is unreal. Who else is unreal? Liam Cunningham as Davos berating Mellisandre. Battle episodes are always crazy but this is fantastic in a different kinda way, deserved every accolade it got. This might be my fav GoT episode, it's def in the top three.

    *PROMISE ME NED*
In the 1st book there's a very somber sequence where Robert in his deathbed is pleading with Ned to take care of Joffrey. Before he dies last thing Robert says is " *PROMISE ME NED* ". But Ned hears that sentence in a female voice. It's so well written, it's hard to do justice. That was my first vague inkling. All through the 1st book Ned has a crisis of faith looking at Robert deteriorating on the throne, and asks himself if Robert really was a better alternative to the Targaryen Crown Prince. It kills Ned cause he starts to second guess everything he had fought for. In the process of winning the war he lost the Brother he knew. There's times when Ned is walking through the castles and wherever he goes he comes across these relics left by the Targaryens, which reminds him of Prince Rhaeger. The greatest dynasty is gone, but their imprint is still everywhere. Even as absolute masters of King's Landing, it's Ned and Robert who felt like outsiders there. It's all beautifully written and Ned's constant inner torment is impossible to do justice on screen. But that's when you start to wonder why is Ned feeling so guilty all the time? Maybe everything is not what it seems? It's that "chaos, a gaping pit" line from Varys. The victors kept telling lies about the vanquished so many times, they themselves forgot what the truth was. People say ASOIAF is the tragic love story of Rhaegar and Lyanna. But it's really A Tragic Love Story of Eddard and Robert. Back in the day ASOIAF forum had a funny thread where they listed every suggestive moment between Ned and Robert, including just the sheer number of times Ned thinks of Young Robert as "muscled like a maiden's fancy" and "every inch a king." 😅
*He found himself thinking of Robert more and more. He saw the king as he had been in the flower of his youth, tall and handsome, his great antlered helm on his head, his warhammer in hand, sitting his horse like a horned god. He heard his laughter in the dark, saw his eyes, blue and clear as mountain lakes. “Look at us, Ned,” Robert said. “Gods, how did we come to this? You here, and me killed by a pig. We won a throne together…”* 😢

Everytime I watch the scene when Arya assassinates Walder Frey, I'm reminded of Bran's story about the rat cook who killed a King's sons and cooked them into a pie and let the King eat the pie. So as punishment for slaughtering his guests under his own roof, the Gods turned the cook into a giant rat who could only eat his own children. Game of Thrones has so many subtle hints throughout the series. It's brilliant! ❤️

*"Remember this, boy. All dwarfs may be bastards, yet not all bastards need be dwarfs." And with that he turned and sauntered back into the feast, whistling a tune. When he opened the door, the light from within threw his shadow clear across the yard, and for just a moment Tyrion Lannister stood tall as a king.* That was Jon's first and only interaction with Tyrion at Winterfell. They don't even see each other again! After that talk Tyrion follows Jon back into the feast as lights from the hall cast both their shadows. But shadows don't discriminate between dwarfs and regular sized humans. That was how it was described by GRRM. *And for just a moment Tyrion Lannister stood tall as a king* is probably the very first subtle hint of Jon's parentage in the book (that or Tyrion third head of the Targaryen Dragon theory confirmed lol). But yeah, as you see more of young Jon before he leaves for the wall in the book, you see him as the brooding, self-loathing and neglected boy who could barely hold his tears at how he's treated by everyone. So his journey in the show, climaxing with them finally paying off the much speculated R+L=J theory strikes the emotional chord even more vividly.

Reposted because the original one had a slight spoiler. There's also another great moment from around the same time when Robert's entourage visits Winterfell and there's a scene of all the male Stark kids and Joffrey practicing sword fighting at the Winterfell courtyard while Jon and Arya are sitting in the stands spectating. Arya asks Jon why he isn't down there and Jon ruefully replies *“bastards are not allowed to damage young princes"*

also iirc, arya didn't have the same coloring as the other starks and is supposed to have the look of lyanna (like nieces sometimes do). And because she looked so much like Jon, she was either teased about being a bastard or wondered about it (typing this from memory - but i think it is one of the clues that most book readers use to do the math)

Of course the books have yet to reveal who Jon's mother is but the video points out information from the books only on why R+L=J. The 3 instigators of the Red Wedding have received justice! Tywin died by crossbow like Grey Wind, Roose Bolton by a close up stab to the heart like Robb, and Walder Frey by slit throat like Catlyn.
And the character arcs are BRILLIANT. I won't give spoilers, but they're good.
Also, don't listen to people that say the last seasons are bad. Make up your own mind. There are many people who like them, myself included; in fact my favorite episode of the whole show is in season 8.

Never thought of that! Great catch!! I wonder if it will go down like that in the books with Roose and Walder Frey? Either it came straight from GRRM or it was astonishingly poetic writing from D&D.

@@Noone91875 What’s really cool is that liking something doesn’t mean that that something is good. Whether something is good or not has never been found out. Trends and the majority decide what the perception of something is. Even so it’s still just opinions. Nothing is set in stone even if the perception seems that way. I think the true meaning of good entertainment is if the project came from the heart. Most people don’t think this deeply about entertainment. Summing up a year long or longer process with the word “trash” does nothing for anybody except make the person speaking that statement feel good temporarily. The idea of whether something is good or not will never be factually be decided when it comes to entertainment media. A hundred people could raise their hands to agree with the factually wrong answer…..and then one person out of that group will raise their hand for the factually right one. All I want to see when it comes to differing opinions is respect.

I still can't get that melancholic piano music out of my head. The camera panning out to Cersei's coronation is my favorite shot, waited the whole series for that moment! The King in the North chant lives, once more after all this time! With Jon and Sansa at the table as throwback to Robb and Cat from the end of S1. Very evocative score and visuals. This is probably my favorite GoT episode. Through hell and highwater we keep hoping for all these outcomes and at last the floodgates open up! Remember how we all do the "Winter is Coming drinking game" in early seasons as Ned keeps saying it every 5 mins lol? Who would've thought the next time you'll hear a Stark saying it again in the show it'll be under these circumstances. To quote Ned as Sansa does in Winter is Here, "when the Snows fall and the white winds blow the lone wolf dies but the pack survives." There's a dope teaser for S7 called Long Walk which shows the two queens and the one king walking to their respective thrones and subconsciously you just know that this is it, they've peaked it's downhill from here. Oh well at least for a brief moment it did feel like a time for wolves!!🐺

It's not unheard of in the North for a Stark bastard to rise in rank. They were Generals, Advisors, Lord Commanders, etc. They weren't quite as esteemed as Targaryen bastards who were Lords and hands of the king, but they were still held in high stance. Though John never really understood what Tyrion meant by "where it like armor", It is true. A lot of "Bastards of Winterfell" had held the title proudly even though John had not liked it. None however, had been King.

Technically Jon is still a Stark and the last male Stark alive (known). Nobody knows where Bran is. So to the people of the North, either way he would still be the next one up in choosing a King. Westeros traditionally passed the ruling crown down the line of males in the ruling family.

Jon is a Stark after his mother. And he is a Targaryen after his father. What you need to remember now tho - he has a claim to the throne as a Targaryen. The throne, that another Targaryen is coming for. And that might be a bit complicated. Daenerys is Jon's aunt. So do a little mind experiment - if you had to choose between one, and another Targaryen for the claim, who would you choose? ;)
