In this video we visited the beaches of playas del coco and playa ocotal on the west coast of Costa Rica, two really nice black sand beaches that are worth visiting. Later on we also visited a beautiful waterfall nearby called Llanos de Cortes.

Do you think maybe the sand is black due to a volcano and the black ash nearby? I know that I’ve been to some black sand beaches, and it’s usually because of the proximity of a volcano and an eruption that happened even years and years ago
That would be interesting to find out, I didnt do any research into why they are black. What black sand beaches did you go to?
Its not so much the ash as it is the volcanic rocks that formed the geography of the country which in turn are worn down to sand in certain areas of the coast.
I'm from CR and yes, that kind of beach its called
"beaches of volcanic origin"
