We've been travelling & backpacking all over the entire country since 2009 and we've met many Americans. The Cuban gov never used to stamp passports, only the tourist visa, which is disposable. Havana is my favourite city in the world and I've walked around at night alone many times. Very safe place...♥️
Thank you so much for sharing your experience in my beautiful country!!!!👍🏼 I was born in CAMAGUEY which is very close to Varadero where my cousins live. My father is from Matanza where I spent a lot of childhood years. My family and I left Cuba in 1969. I was just six years old. Unfortunately I never returned. However, it’s because amazing people like you two that allows those like me to enjoy and reminisce the days as a child in a beautiful Country of origin. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving us a glimpse of this small paradise that’s only 90 miles away from where I live in Key West today. One day…I will visit, for sure.
I was born in Havana. My mother's mother's side is Irish/British, and her father's side is Canary Islander. My father's father was half Italian and half Spaniard. Many Europeans settled in Cuba. We don't categorize by ethnicity. If a person follows Cuban culture, then that person is considered Cuban. My dad was a Batista soldier, and when Castor took over by force, then he had to flee unnoticed to America, because the commies were searching for him to kill him. I was only 2 years old, when my dad, mom, a 1 year old brother and a 4 year old sister left our beautiful island.. I never have visited Cuba since we left in March 1968.
Wait how old are you? My mom was born and Raised in Matanzas and she came to the USA when she was 18!! I’ve never visited so I’m planning a visitation this summer for vacation!
@@eva5601 My best guess is you have never been to Cuba. It is up to the Cuban people to determine how they want to be govern. Cuba is absolutely no threat to the United States for over a hundred years we were the power structure in Cuba and the vast majority of Cubans suffered for once the United States needs to stay out of Cuba's business. Here is just a little side note the life exceptency is higher in Cuba than the United States.
Thanks for give that information for all this people are not sure how tourist places in cuba ..I'm so proud to be Cuban and especially my city varadero matanzas is where I'm from
Thank you for sharing your experience in Varedero via this video. I love Varedero and will be there again for the 6th time in August 2022. Lovely beaches and also lovely people ❤
Wrong about 1 thing. It's mainly Canadians that go to Cuba. Not many from USA. Bad info from whoever you were talking with. Good video though! 👍 Been there 13 times. Waiting for Covid to end!
I was first in Varadero in March of 2019, met some great friends amongst the people. I was supposed to go back right around the time covid hit. Now after 3 years, 5 months later I'm finally going back.
There is much more below the surface, my beautiful wife lives there and there are many things you just haven’t seen or experienced. It is a beautiful place and the people are what makes it an incredible place. They make it nice for the tourist however everyday life is a struggle for the locals with electricity problems to no cooking gas and water that comes when it wants to. Try living with this everyday. Food is a real struggle as the markets are empty most days. It is a diverse and beautiful place for sure but with many problems.
Chris thank you! Appreciate the information and vlog. Really like your video work, beautiful views of Cuba 🌴 Wow, what a place! Gorgeous. Looking forward to the next ✈️ Wishing you and Carolina all the best during your travels~ 👍 from Arizona, USA 🌵
Great info on your trip but its so much easier for Canadians...i started going to Varadero in 1994, twice a year for vacation....always stayed at the all inclusive hotels, great prices..no worries. tried the private houses a few times but only for a few days while still having my hotel for the week....food was pretty good as i never went hungry, plus...i'm not going on vacation to eat lol...god only knows most people could easily afford to lose a good 10 lbs. what some people consider a scam, i see it as a simple way for the average Cuban to make a few bucks, you try living on $40/month. It is a safe place to travel but if your the type to flash your cash and walk around with all your jewelry etc and perhaps a little intoxicated, you may be an easy target, keep that in mind. Otherwiaw, enjoy your vacation and the beautiful beach in Varadero
Americans can still travel to Cuba via air, just not on a cruise. We visited Havana and Vinales in January. I want to go back now to visit Trinidad, Cienfuegos, and Varadero. Thanks for your videos. Varadero looks amazing!
Yeah you are right! I should have written that on the video, i read that previously more than half of the Americans were going via cruise ships. I didn't get to visit Vinales because we ran out of time but it looks awesome in pics, the limestone rocks made it look like Vietnam. Trinidad and Varadero were my favorite places so you wont be disappointed!
I stayed at roc barlovento resort...I will return...watch out for sand flies...I left my door to veranda open...there is a pizza restaurant west of roc barlovento. 5 min walk...forgot name of this place

Thanks for including your thoughts on Cuba. I was lucky as an American to visit with my university ten years ago. We were in Baracoa and climbed the mountain El Yunque in the national park Alejandro von Humboldt. The city had lots of amazing artists and food, Cuba is safe and the people are lovely and giving although they live simply they share everything to be hospitable. I understand why they try to scam, they didn’t even have toilet paper and sugar unless you can make some tourist $, they are very poor lacking many basic things like soap and toothpaste. Our dollars compared to CUCs are worth an insane amount more. So if they were to get even $20 it goes very far for them. We were happy to tip generously since it was so inexpensive. Baracoa there was not scamming but it’s far out from Havana, closest to major city Santiago. Helps to speak Spanish or go with a local. My profesora is Cuban born in Miami. Do wish relations between our countries would improve so I can visit again someday with no worries.
You are enjoying Cuba's beautiful beaches as a tourist . Very different for the people of Cuba. You don't see homeless people , because the government doesn't allow it. You will be arrested for living in the streets or begging for money etc... I'm Cuban and lived there for many years . Glad you enjoyed your vacation
I just got back from veradero, stayed at ocean vista azul and got sick the second day in. And currently still sick. There shortage of everything right now is nuts.
Yes shortages, from medicine onwards the main draw-back of Cuba, made worse by hotels buying up soft,drinks,beer,ice-cream from local shops to sell in the hotels
The road we were on is called Calle 29, it’s pretty much right at the start of the peninsula. The hotel zone is more towards the middle and far end I think

Agreed. Nice to see you both smiling a lot. Good way to end your trip there. Also, nice summation at the end. Btw, one of the reasons Castro took Cuba the communist route is he felt there was too much American $ (and Mafia) influence on the Cuban economy. And Cuba did just fine without American (and Western, in general) tourism for more than several decades.
