Wow, I remember this beautiful horse, watching "Penthouse Playhouse" every Saturday night with my family, we never bet but we would all pick our horses and this amazing prancing horse came along and caught our imaginations. I don't necessarily agree with the whole industry but I'll tell you what, this horse used to make my hairs on the back of my neck stand up, I had witnessed a champion. And I was only a kid. I remember when Maori's Idol raced against the pacers. What a big deal that was!
Just a pity he was beaten into 3rd in the 1978 Interdominion Final. I remember watching the event at the time and I was screaming at the driver to let him go!. Absolute certainty beaten due to an "ordinary" drive. Will never forget that night. A tragedy!
Thank you for posting this, I am so appreciative, it was simpler times. This horse needs hero status. I went to Temora on a road trip with my sister and my greatest moment was being in front of the "Temora Tornado", Paleface Adios. My, things have changed?!?
No trotter ever raced against the pacers at the highest level. The fact that he won a heat of the Australian Pacing Championship was amazing, let alone run 2nd in the Final,
I think it is safe to say he is the greatest trotter ever in Australia , and given the way he served it up to the top line pacers that makes him one of the finest standardbred horses ever to race in Australia in my book . The type of horse we would all love to own .
Absolutely magnificent horse. The greatest trotter, perfectly gaited.
i remember him winning the hamilton pacing cup they rang the bell once for Maoris idol and once for the pacers!
Congrats to Kyle for his efforts. A lot is lost over time. Thank -you and long live Gavin Lang. Legendary mentor.

Wish my bets won like that :). Truly a remarkable trotted.

Health drive in 78 final was a disgrace, should of been thrown in maribrynong River!

Best trotter ever
Best standardbred horse to race in Australia in my opinion. Genuine freak.
thankyou for his post
Without doubt the best square gaiter ever and you can throw in Scotch Notch, Lyell Creek and any other you think might be up to the task
I'm old. Stop putting these videos up! I need to sleep...LOL
Anyone have any video of Court Jester?
Bryan Healy could not drive to save his life. Tragedy beaten in the interdom when Derby Royale won
Recall when this beautiful Blk H came off 60m ... and WON by 60m in a Trotters Handicap at Mooney Valley.
The old timer racecaller Ray Fewings on the job !!
Rip.van winkle great horse too
Good Run Son
What a freakish horse.
I Remember The Kilmore Cup when he beat the Pacers...What A Horse
Sorry to correct you but Maori’s Idol never won the Kilmore Cup, he started from 10 mètres & finished 11th to Taronga.
@@bobwilliams8867 i was there when he got butchered in the aust trotter's champ worst drive in history
@@mrblindfreddy9999 pretty certain his drive in the Interdominion Final in Melbourne was his worse drive, this maybe the race you are talking about.

Got flattened early in the Kilmore Cup, might have been Apre Ski that did the damage , never in it after that
