  • English subtitles available - Tram traffic in Mainz, Germany between central station and Gonsenheim, with reversing trams at Elbestraße - In the summer of 2024 track construction work for the tram is going on at Gonsenheim (Mainz, federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany). Tracks are reconstructed around the Inselkirche, the so called "island church", as it is located on a kind of island encircled by the street and the tram tracks on both sides. During this time, line 50 and 51 trams reverse at Gonsenheim, at Elbestraße. During the time of construction only trams capable of bidirectional operation come to Gonsenheim, one of them the high-floor tramcar type M8C from Duewag, the other the low-floor tramcar type GT6M from Adtranz.
The area around Inselkirche is also closed for car traffic. So the street "An der Bruchspitze" is used by less cars than usual.
During the time of reconstruction Elbestraße tram stop is the terminus of the line. Departing trams change over to the right hand track using a junction with points.
For the time of the work a temporary platform has been built for arriving trams. After all passengers have got out, trams advance to the departure platform. That is the platform from which trams normally depart for Finthen.
