Me too, I forget if it was 11 or 12 but it was the one where they slowed the gameplay down and the games were much more defensive and realistic. It was my fav madden off all time and I’ve played all most all of them from the original to 16

'02-'06 era was goated. Probably because that coincides with the years I was in Highschool and all my friends were playing/had a custom league going. But still. Man, such memorable times. You could run an offense on just 5-7 plays that you mastered alone. Thanks for the video, enjoyed it a lot
Thank you for mentioning the madden community from back then. I know you said you were like 9 but Gideon Prime, Versuz, Hard8Times, BarneyPhife, Ronenic, Brozales, Apex, SimFBallCritic and so many more were expressing how much we needed a Sim Football game and its so dissappointing how the game has gotten even worse from that period. But that era of youtubers were pioneers and I appreciate them any time i watch a madden vid. Thank you SDTV for respecting the past while being a trailblazer yourself in this communinty.

I went with my dad to my local Hastings which was pretty much a book, comics, home video and video game rental store. Ended up getting a copy for my PlayStation 2 at the time because we hadnt gotten the ps3 yet. I just remember playing madden 09 and having alot of fun it was the last madden I can say I had a good time playing
This is the game that forced me to go back to playing 2K5 with the editor. Then, it was into 2k8 with the editor, for years. I didn't end up buying another Madden until M20, which sucked. Haven't tried any of the newer Maddens yet. I feel like a big part of my life was crushed/stolen by EA. 😢
Madden 09 was the peak of Rocket Catching online. Those who know...know. The reason why Madden is an animation based game today is because EA had to find a way to nerf the rocket catch.

Me in my opinion I think madden 09 on the ps2 is the best madden ps2 and original xbox maddens are better cause they had everything and the animations was better on those versions
I haven't kept up with Madden at all (last Madden I played with any regularity was Madden 10 a LONG time ago), but Madden 09 was my 2nd ever Madden. I was 12 and just getting into football, and this game wowed me after 08. Everything felt so fun with this game and the visual aesthetic went crazy. I never knew people considered it mid, but then again, I was 12 and probably wouldn't have cared anyway, lol.
Im 14 and I play the crap out of this game. I like doing broncos franchises and I can do it for hours unlike madden 24 where I can only play for like 20 min. Thank You Softdrink for making this video

09 wasn't a good game, make no bones about it, but it was so much better than what we have today. SD hit it on the head when he said they made it with passion, because they did. There was clear commitment to the end product in mind. It was so well polished for its time and it was optimized perfectly for the consoles it was played on. That's not something you can say about the new Maddens, with glitches out the wazzau, and loading times that would make even the sanest man insane.
The ice field and jungle stadium are in the fantasy challenge mode in the ps2/xbox version of madden 08 (and maybe later ones but i don’t remember) would love to see a vid dedicated to this mode because I think its the best mode ever included in any madden
I remember this Madden fondly because it's the Madden I was on when I first moved out my parents house to Columbus Ohio. I was still on the AV cords and this guy where I worked told me to get HDMI cords. This is still back when HD tvs were still relatively expensive. I remember buying HDMI cords and being blown away at the graphical upgrade 😂😂.

My mom got me 09 on the 360 and i loved it but then got me a PS3, the family an HD tv and this on PS3 and it was the most impressive game i ever saw at that point graphically. Plus my Steelers won the Super Bowl that year so i played the game well after the Super Bowl too

I bought 09 a couple years ago on 360 and was shocked to find out you couldn't use kicker/punter in superstar mode. I loved playing as a kicker on PS2!
One other way you can tell they put some effort in back then: Madden 09 on the Wii was the first version in which they incorporated a 'Call your Shots' feature, where you could literally use the Wii remote to design custom routes for receivers before the snap. It was so satisfying to score touchdowns on plays you were literally creating on the fly! They even upped it a little with Madden 10 to allow you to customize defensive players as well, though I'm not as familiar with that as 09 is the last Madden I ever purchased/played regularly. Graphics weren't NEARLY as good as this, but that's not surprising for a Nintendo system. You might find it interesting.
The YT algorithm has blessed me lately. Madden 09 was damn near brillant on the ps3, I still go back and play sometimes. It was so deep compared to now. Being able to replay moments needs to be back in Madden.

Dude, great video. I LONG for the days when Madden brought me all the excitement in the world. My friend gave me his copy of Madden 21 last year and I played 3 seasons of face of the franchise w/ the Jets. It was kinda fun but it lacked the atmosphere previous games had. I mean back then on superstar you could get drafted by ANYONE, that alone was a thrill. The franchise mode used to go so much harder, my favorite mode. EA really just settles for “good enough” every year now and people keep buying and buying. I miss looking at the in-depth stats they provided in old games. Now it’s bare bones in every single aspect - except for MUT of course. Last Madden I purchased was 15.
The fantasy teams and stadiums are actually in the PS2 version of the game, in the Fantasy Challenge mode. Pretty awesome feature that I miss to this day. You could also unlock and play with them in play now if you beat them in the tournament.

Madden 09 was actually my favorite on Xbox 360/ PS3! Exceptionally the Madden moments loved the Madden moments and it was actually really good to me. P.s I also liked 09,10,and 11 cuz of music and the Extra point when going through highlights and stats.

I never played this for the PS3, but I have it for the PS2 This is my second favorite Madden all time behind 07 for the PS2. When I think back on this game, the roster has me putting this right behind 07 but just ahead of 08 cause I liked SuperSim which made games quicker to play through if I just wanted to simulate through. Really solid game on the 2 that has aged wonderfully.
Madden 08 had fictional teams and stadiums. The Fantasy mode on the ps2/xbox versions of the game let you draft current players as well as legends. You went through tiers of teams and the last tier was all fantasy teams. I definitely remember the hell themed team and field

The thing about madden back in the day was that you could always get deeply involved with your franchise mode. The music was key those Sam Spence songs were great. One thing that I always remember was that all the top QB’s had their own throwing animation and you felt like it was Peyton or Tom actually making it happen. It’s not the same and I love these deep dives into my childhood. Madden 06 to me had the greatest sound track ever.
No no no no, the collector's edition also came with NFL Head Coach 09 and a bonus disc of lots of extras. I found my copy for the 360 in a south Denver pawn shop in 2013. Glad I still have it and my Walmart special edition two-tone blue 360 to this day.
This was one of my favorite maddens honestly. It was the only madden I liked doing the franchise mode after espn football 2k5. I finished the whole franchise mode and was so sad when it was over. Madden 09 is on my goat list idc
Loved this game. “U Drive” was an unstoppable play. Loved being able to run around and awkwardly dunk on the goalposts after a TD. Also sorry for nitpicking but that was Madden 10 at 10:39. The nasty man Darren Sharper was not on the Saints until the 09 season.
I am watching your older videos now and I am literally using modded rosters to play through older eras. This is something that should be in the game. Retro Rosters so you could play any season you would want in the NFL. Madden 08 had historic teams and just removed the player names who didn't have approval but we knew who they were
Madden 09 is pretty much THE Madden for me. I got the Collector’s Edition as a Pre-Order and then played the hell out of it the whole season. I still have that copy, and as Madden has declined, I have gone back to it multiple times.
an underrated game for sure. the hall of fame players, the madden IQ and virtual john madden, the music, etc. that fantasy football feature would be AMAZING today with the popularity of fantasy football. it really was ahead of it's time. would LOVE to play with my fantasy football team in madden every year. something like a myteam feature and they would strike gold. remember, this madden was released before the microtransaction and MUT craze.
Madden 09 was the only Madden game I played when I was younger. Never played another one until I recently bought Madden 24 to see what's new in the series. Boy was I let down.
I had a thought at 11:03. What if the cover athlete had a pregame playlist that was included in the game's soundtrack as a way to hype the player up going into their games? Personally, I think they should go free-to-play with just "Madden" as the title and update each season with a new cover athlete. Then, you could just add that player's playlist to a growing catalog of songs that could also be broken up by genre and "added/removed" from each user's list of played songs so the user only has to listen to songs they choose.
The last greatest Madden was 2012 , that whole era or Madden 1999-2012 and maybe we can throw in 2013 This makes me wanna play that era again for 360/Ps3 I really miss it. I dropped so many damn hours in Madden 2009 online mode with friends. It truly felt next gen. Rip to the old Madden community at least SimFBallCritic is still making videos. Everybody else moved on or not online anymore.
09 was nostalgic to me cause I played the DS version for hours. Just got the Ps3 version, and yea it feels like it's missing things despite playing pretty well. Ofc as a Jets fan, it's no surprise that they missed up the cover art for Farve and him not being in the Jets in the default roster. Also the soundtrack for this game is memorable
I used to play this game back in late 2008-2009, though I played it for the 2009 NFL season. I played as the Pittsburgh Steelers and the St. Louis Football Cardinals in franchise mode and I added NFL Hall of Famers into most NFL teams (which I used to do when I played Madden NFL 08-10 on the Xbox 360). The game was okay, it was not as good as the earlier games (like Madden NFL 2002), but it was far, far better then the newer games (like Madden NFL 21). I do like the rivalry histories before the start of rivalry games. I still have this game since the end of 2008.
I'm one of the co-authors of the book included in the collector's edition! Our EA XXV book the year before was probably better but it was still a fun project.
09 is nostalgic for me, but for the psp lol, it meant so much to me that the playoff brackets were correct unlike the older madden of the time kept getting wrong. i even talked about this game on a long video years ago on a franchise i played all 30 years from 2015-2022

Never played 09, but I have 08, 11, 12, and 13 all for the 360. I tend to play 11 the most out of them

EA really just settles for “good enough” every year now and people keep buying and buying. I miss looking at the in-depth stats they provided in old games. Now it’s bare bones in every single aspect - except for MUT of course. Last Madden I purchased was 15.
The fantasy teams and stadiums are actually in the PS2 version of the game, in the Fantasy Challenge mode. Pretty awesome feature that I miss to this day. You could also unlock and play with them in play now if you beat them in the tournament.

I played all maddens except for that madden. Madden 09 I never played it at all, I was in the halo 3 phase as that game was trending in that era

Yeah, I agree… I’ve played it on the 360 and PS3. It had slightly quicker load times compared to the XBOX, PS2 and GameCube releases.
Madden 09 feel and graphics always felt so immersive. Newer maddens looks nice but have never been able to replicate that feel for me
Madden 10 is my favorite Madden of all time I had the 360 and it brings me so much nostalgia when I watch videos like these.
I miss the days when me and my buddies could gather in the living room and play Madden 05 and talk crap to each other. Nobody could beat me when I used the Steelers. Duce Staley and Jerome Bettis were unstoppable.
Madden 09 was actually my favorite on Xbox 360/ PS3! Exceptionally the Madden moments loved the Madden moments and it was actually really good to me. P.s I also liked 09,10,and 11 cuz of music and the Extra point when going through highlights and stats.

You could spotlight receivers in 08. But man I've never seen that concept art. Really wish fantasy stadium type stuff was available in the games
You get some interesting stadium choices in the NFL Fever series but those artwork renderings take it to the next level.

I was so mad when I picked this up due to Favre being on the cover, only to find out he wasn’t in the game!
I never played this for the PS3, but I have it for the PS2 This is my second favorite Madden all time behind 07 for the PS2. When I think back on this game, the roster has me putting this right behind 07 but just ahead of 08 cause I liked SuperSim which made games quicker to play through if I just wanted to simulate through.
Really solid game on the 2 that has aged wonderfully.

Madden 08 had fictional teams and stadiums. The Fantasy mode on the ps2/xbox versions of the game let you draft current players as well as legends. You went through tiers of teams and the last tier was all fantasy teams. I definitely remember the hell themed team and field
Just went back to it and you also unlock the teams for play now.
09 was my favorite. Wisconsin native, I loved the rewind system. Super nostalgic

Madden 09 was very underappreciated... the graphics were great for its time.
The thing about madden back in the day was that you could always get deeply involved with your franchise mode. The music was key those Sam Spence songs were great. One thing that I always remember was that all the top QB’s had their own throwing animation and you felt like it was Peyton or Tom actually making it happen. It’s not the same and I love these deep dives into my childhood. Madden 06 to me had the greatest sound track ever.

No no no no, the collector's edition also came with NFL Head Coach 09 and a bonus disc of lots of extras. I found my copy for the 360 in a south Denver pawn shop in 2013. Glad I still have it and my Walmart special edition two-tone blue 360 to this day.
This was one of my favorite maddens honestly. It was the only madden I liked doing the franchise mode after espn football 2k5. I finished the whole franchise mode and was so sad when it was over. Madden 09 is on my goat list idc

Loved this game. “U Drive” was an unstoppable play. Loved being able to run around and awkwardly dunk on the goalposts after a TD. Also sorry for nitpicking but that was Madden 10 at 10:39. The nasty man Darren Sharper was not on the Saints until the 09 season.

I am watching your older videos now and I am literally using modded rosters to play through older eras. This is something that should be in the game. Retro Rosters so you could play any season you would want in the NFL. Madden 08 had historic teams and just removed the player names who didn't have approval but we knew who they were
Xbox Madden 09 was my favorite one. Gameplay was crisp graphics were great for it's time. The game felt alot more fluid than most modern Maddens.
Madden 09 is pretty much THE Madden for me. I got the Collector’s Edition as a Pre-Order and then played the hell out of it the whole season. I still have that copy, and as Madden has declined, I have gone back to it multiple times.
an underrated game for sure. the hall of fame players, the madden IQ and virtual john madden, the music, etc. that fantasy football feature would be AMAZING today with the popularity of fantasy football. it really was ahead of it's time. would LOVE to play with my fantasy football team in madden every year. something like a myteam feature and they would strike gold. remember, this madden was released before the microtransaction and MUT craze.
Madden 09 was the only Madden game I played when I was younger. Never played another one until I recently bought Madden 24 to see what's new in the series. Boy was I let down.
My favorite thing about this game was that the players would get muddy during rain games. I was so bummed when they took that out of future Maddens.

I had a thought at 11:03. What if the cover athlete had a pregame playlist that was included in the game's soundtrack as a way to hype the player up going into their games? Personally, I think they should go free-to-play with just "Madden" as the title and update each season with a new cover athlete. Then, you could just add that player's playlist to a growing catalog of songs that could also be broken up by genre and "added/removed" from each user's list of played songs so the user only has to listen to songs they choose.
The last greatest Madden was 2012 , that whole era or Madden 1999-2012 and maybe we can throw in 2013
This makes me wanna play that era again for 360/Ps3 I really miss it. I dropped so many damn hours in Madden 2009 online mode with friends. It truly felt next gen.

09 was nostalgic to me cause I played the DS version for hours. Just got the Ps3 version, and yea it feels like it's missing things despite playing pretty well. Ofc as a Jets fan, it's no surprise that they missed up the cover art for Farve and him not being in the Jets in the default roster.
Also the soundtrack for this game is memorable
I used to play this game back in late 2008-2009, though I played it for the 2009 NFL season. I played as the Pittsburgh Steelers and the St. Louis Football Cardinals in franchise mode and I added NFL Hall of Famers into most NFL teams (which I used to do when I played Madden NFL 08-10 on the Xbox 360). The game was okay, it was not as good as the earlier games (like Madden NFL 2002), but it was far, far better then the newer games (like Madden NFL 21). I do like the rivalry histories before the start of rivalry games. I still have this game since the end of 2008.
I'm one of the co-authors of the book included in the collector's edition! Our EA XXV book the year before was probably better but it was still a fun project.

09 is nostalgic for me, but for the psp lol, it meant so much to me that the playoff brackets were correct unlike the older madden of the time kept getting wrong. i even talked about this game on a long video years ago on a franchise i played all 30 years from 2015-2022
