      The other that comes to mind is Harley Davidson. Pretty much the same story - American icon, was once very well regarded but has gradually gone downhill, has a very loyal following no matter how crappy the vehicles are, sell a specific image that keeps the loyalists coming back, and branded merch are probably a larger part of their business than most vehicle companies. They survive on image and branding, their vehicles can't stand on their own. At least Jeep has the Wrangler, which sort of stands alone, there aren't many competing models that offer the same thing. I've heard the new Bronco is the first real Wrangler alternative in a long time. But the other Jeep models (which I likewise question if ought to be called "Jeeps" as they're not off-road vehicles) have nothing to offer that other cars don't do better. Harley, to my understanding, doesn't even have that in its favor, as competitors offer similar-style bikes that are better in every way.

    • @bwofficial1776
      @bwofficial1776 Рік тому +24

      Jeep has become a luxury brand. The luxury is the image of go anywhere, do anything and you certainly pay for it. To be fair, the Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer have become very well-equipped. If you're buying a Wrangler you're willing to put up with all of the compromises to have something you think is cool and capable.

    • @quillmaurer6563
      @quillmaurer6563 Рік тому +7

      @@bwofficial1776 I wouldn't think of that as "luxury" in the traditional sense, like Lexus or Cadillac or something, even if the Wagoneer is sort of moving in that direction (and was so un-off-road that when I saw a preproduction prototype in "camouflage" I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be an SUV or minivan). More it's about a specific image, they - particularly Wranglers - are not sold just as "vehicles" in the pragmatic sense, but as a lifestyle accessory and perhaps even statement that also serves as a vehicle. So people will buy them for the off road capability and image, even if it's crap as a vehicle. I could see that, but still suspect there's some brand loyalty involved, associated with that image. If a better alternative, one that's a better value for the money or better made, came along, many would probably stay loyal to Jeep even if the new option is better in every way.

Given that 90% of the population neglects their transmissions, you end up with problems. Do real services at the recommended intervals, with new filters (not just a fluid change). Also, be sure to wipe the magnet in the pan, each time. If you're not having problems with it now, you shouldn't have any for a long time...as long as you keep it maintained.

    This video is so painfully relatable to me. I didn't drive this specific car, but I used to drive a Durango, while not quite as weak, sad, and pointless as this, it was just awful for what I needed it to do, drive to school and work. Yes, it was great for getting through Alaskan winters, but it was way overkill for my needs, and the lumbering sluggishness festered from an annoyance, to a burning hatred as the years dragged on. I am dying for the day you review a 1st gen Durango, because it really means a lot to me, I grew up in one after all.

Most of the cars from this generation where all imported at the same time, so there isn't many of them and because your using second hand parts, stripped from the limited pool of imported cars of a few years. You can replace it, but your just hoping that the replacement part isn't faulty. It wouldn't pass yearly inspection in it's condition and I could not insure it without it passing. So I had to buy something else.

    I drive an '06 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I bought it new and have well over 100k miles on it (maybe 120k or so). I oil change it maybe 2 times per year and have abused the shit out of it over the years. She still runs great and doesn't have any major issues. (Knock on wood) she is just reliable as can be! I run a V6 in mine. It has excessive power. It can break loose on the highway, easily, and has way more than enough acceleration power for merging. It is a very fast SUV. I have no idea what these guys are talking about. It does 'want' constant input on the pedal, but it is also a heavy SUV. Lightly resting your foot on the gas is sufficient, you barely have to push it in. It has magnificent torque. I have driven over mountain ranges in the Ruby mountains with ease, driven over two dams in Southwest Texas, climbed 'The Wall' near El Paso, taken it on rock crawls without issue, hit 160mph on the highway. She is a great vehicle. Maybe something changed between my year Jeep ('06) and '08....but I know that mine is a fantastic piece of equipment.

Budget 3" lift, 32s and wheel spacers gives it enough capability to go almost anywhere.
