It's trivially easy to get other store fronts, like Epic, Ubisoft, Blizzard, and EA, on the Steam Deck under SteamOS (no Windows required). The Steam Deck will also run many non-Steam games and emulators. Even Minecraft Bedrock runs on SteamOS with very little effort. That's not an unreasonable price for an external RTX 4090 for the ROG Ally.
That's really good to know about the Deck! I'll have to ask one of my friends with one for a run out and demonstration, thanks for pointing it out! You're also 100% correct about the external graphics card, it's just a touch too expensive for my pocket 🤣💳
I sold both my Steam Deck & Asus ROG Ally. I purchased a GPD win 4 8840u 32GB 2TB 2024 version. I have been playing... Black Myth Wukong using my Xreal Air 2 Pro glasses with it. It is absolutely 💯 a wonderful experience! I ❤ this thing it is so darn cute. It is basically a Powerful Gaming PC in the size of a Switch Lite. It is tiny compared to these giants. You can actually put it in your pocket if you want to. But, I have a case for it. I just purchased a 3D printed Grip for it. Excited to get it in it will definitely make holding this tiny thing much more comfortable. I almost bought a Ally X. I am happy I went with this instead. 😁👍
@@WOojerVest3andQuest3onMe what made you go with the win 4 alot of people not really talking about that system I also have a steam deck OLED and a win 4 7640u model I haven't really used the win 4 for real before both the SD and win 4 my poco F3 was my daily driver gaming device having a gamesir G8 controller attach so having portable handhelds very new for me
@3dtheking I like the small form factor. The GPD win 4 is pretty much the same size as my Nintendo switch Lite. Steam Deck and Asus ROG ally both are huge compared to this thing, plus it is just as powerful. If not better with having an Oculink port. Also, I was able to get it for cheaper than an Ally X. Reason I choose to go with it over the rest. Although, They're all wonderful machines. I just prefer the style of this one. It is the smallest of the bunch. But yet, still provides an actual keyboard with backlight buttons. This GPD win 4 is my favorite. If you noticed, it was the first hand held shown to you in this video 😉👌 0:01
I'm glad i went with the Ally rather than the Steam Deck because I've played Minecraft (a non Steam game) for hundreds of hours this year, and I've used the Ally as a laptop substitute when away from home or my desk. Great value and saves on carting around multiple devices. Legion Go also sounds good but was £150 more when I bought the Ally.
As a customer you should think about your budget and what it is you want when it comes to having these devices are you a retro gamer mix with modern gaming in between? do you want the best bang for your buck type of system? can you handle having windows on a handheld meaning you'll need a keyboard and mouse a portable monitor updating drivers everytime are you using these devices for productivity or just for gaming im looking forward to which device you pick and do a review on it me being a steam deck oled tb and gpd win 4 7640u model owner im still in my first timer vibes with both of them before that it was my poco F3 with a controller attachment paying for boosteroid for my pc gaming a PS5/Xbox gamepass i wanted to make my phone just be a phone again and have my devices be my gaming on the go experience making my steam deck be my all in one running all my emulators mix with a few modern game titles knowing its not as power an my win 4 being my AAA title games i can run on it I've always loved the PSP growing up so getting the win 4 was a no brainer an also you gotta make sure you find comfortably in holding these devices depending on your hand size i wished you had some friends that had these devices so that way you get a feel for them and as far as them being expensive try going on ebay amazon mercari etc the steam deck oled is 629 some places its cheaper and the rog x is 800 nobody is going to dumb down that price the steam deck has longevity going on 3 years old now an its still the blueprint on what these other handheld PCs are trying too be I'm also new to Windows and Linux thats why i got both the steam deck and win 4 only had them for a few months 🤟🏾 A side note if your going to pick up any of these devices you gone have to come outta pocket for more stuff for customizing aka a docking station a traveling bag hardcase grips hall effect stick replacements (rog x and steam deck doesn't have Hall effects) dbrand skins (you go wanna add some personality to yo device) SD cards M.2 SSDs thumb stick caps portable battery banks keyboard and mouse portable monitor I recommend getting a ifixit kit and saving some teardown tutorial videos on whatever device you get that way you can know how to open your device without feeling like a noob/rookie an having a portable PC go change the game for you imagine watching anime on rog x or steam deck oled screen people go be like is that a switch? Honestly I absolutely do not want physical media back on my PC. Unless they ship that thing in a 3.2 Gen drive or something, I do not want to wait through a disk loading 200gigs worth of files every time I screw up an installation with mods. A gigabit connection can download most things in under 30 minutes which makes my appeal to physical media disappear at least for the PC.
Totally fair. As I say it's very much a personal thing to me and part of my considerations for devices. But as it isn't an option on PC I have to make my peace
@@Doragon86I get what you mean on the consoles though both from sentimental and practical. (Because somehow my PS5 over Ethernet downloads slower than a USB-Ethernet adaptered PC)
Imo if Asus doesn't crap the bed for the second time ally x (*og ally has too many issues and no advantages over the comp*) should be the superior choice 2280ssd + big battery & dual boot are realy good
@hk6926 I mean you literally go to interface and choose boot big picture mode and all the controls work and you can buy... not sure how it's that much different
@@mattarson9 bro it's not same . I have both right now and I currently hate the ally x because of windows . It took me 15 minutes of my break to get to a damn game whereas steam deck takes a few seconds . It's a pain to go out and come back to steam bug picture mode too . Also sometimes my controllers don't work in big picture mode . Anyways I am giving ally a last chance and installing bazzite and if that doesn't work like my oled , surely this thing is hitting the shelf of best buy as open box .
I did not know this thing existed until your comment! The only major downside is that the battery seem kind of pointless with that device, you're always going to be plugged in haha. But definitely interested now!
Wow brother. Poor build quality? This is the first time im hearing that. You never held these in your hand. Also hard to believe you know anything about tech if you never had a PC since 2015.
The poor build quality point was from circa 20 user reviews on Lenovos own website. It's appeared in a few video reviews as well from outlets like cnet, wulff den and The Verge. Like I said I'm looking to purchase one of these devices and that's the information out there for a customer. In terms of knowing tech, there's a lot more to the industry that I work in than just PCs. From mobile to networking, VR to accessibility and much, much more. Many of those knowledge bases and skill sets are transferable

I would buy the Steam deck limited edition if they would have kept making it. Went with the Ally.

You can set steam to open to big picture mode on your ally x when powering it on. This essentially makes your ally x like a steam deck
Oh that's great! Means you can still have a console like experience then. Thanks for letting me know
Lol far from close to steamos .

I mean steam deck wont to be any more unique because Steam is releasing Steamos to Rog Ally soon

Wait so youre reviewing products without even having the products??
Not quite. I'm looking at which one to buy, as a customer in the same position as someone looking to buy one.
Just a different take on the idea
