High OP won't hurt things. VDO has issues with their senders. Just for back up, install a liquid filled gauge directly off of the main oil rifle. If there were an issue with the regulator you would see low pressure and there is a high pressure dump in the oil sustem that will dump excessive pressure back to either the sump or pump, usually to the sump. There is also a valve that if the restriction through the filter is high, it will bypass the filter. Dirty oil is better than no oil.
Great info, m35a2ww‼️💪🏻
Oooh nice nugget of info. Will keep it in mind in case we have high OP
It's always non stop for Gary, so lucky he's so handy. Dont let go of this guy
Gary is full on always! Thankful for him! 💙
And Brooke has learned so much, im proud of you.
Thanks, Ronnie! 💙
While watching, I was literally thinking how cool it was to see Brooke become a confident sailor .. then Gary said perfectly what I was thinking. Rock on!!
Aww thanks, Matt! This means so much to me! I've come a pretty long way since we left Florida a couple years ago. I mean, I finally know what the main sail is. 😂⛵
Stars. That plane was definitely just looking at the stars.
Haha yes, just some innocent star gazing!
The biggest problem I have with your videos is when they end I have to go back to reality. Yall make my day keep em coming. Thanks
Oh wow, this is such a compliment! Thank you! We really love taking everyone along on our journey!
One check about that skyrocket oil pressure. With the oil pressure showing off the wall for a few minutes, shut engine down & IMMEDIATELY check oil in the sump. With oil pressure REALLY that high, it would drain the sump in a matter of a few minutes, leaving no oil to pump, with it all being up in the engine. IF there is a decent about of oil in the sump, it's the sending unit.
Just a comment for the computer algorithms! Fun sailing along with you, as always.
Thanks for the love, Thomas! We appreciate it!
interesting to see the full human experience, frustration you can identify with as well as the good tear jerking moments.
Yeah it's a rollercoaster ride out here some times! Hope you enjoyed the video!
I love that you don't edit out the frustration faces. Even with dolphins in the background 🤣 Also, Brooke, you give me hope to become a strong, confident sailor one day, so thank you! ❤️ -K
Hey guys! Thanks! We really try to capture all the moments not just the sunshine & bikini times. Krissy Jo~ Aw thank you, I am learning every day and still have so much to learn! I know you are going to kick some sailing assssssss out there!
Drive it like you own
Love the partnership you two have. You compliment each other in so many ways. Fair winds and safe sailing❤
Aww thanks, momma Sroka! We will see you soon!❤️
I love following your sailing adventures. The quality of your filming and editing makes me feel almost as if I am onboard with you guys. The videos are so real and welcoming, that I never want them to stop. I love seeing your love for dolphins, and of course, your yummy, creative cooking. stay safe and stay groovy.
Hey MA! Thank you so much. You always leave us the nicest comments. We really appreciate it!
Thanks for the filming of the dolphins and for the “perfect day”. Prayers for safe sailing.
Thank you, Dennis! We appreciate the well wishes out here!
Oh no, oil pressure problems, that's all you need out there. Damn, low level no lights aircraft... Mmmm... let me think lol. Wow, strange craft on the high seas. You're getting it all. Wow, those dolphins checking you guys out. Glad you got some sailing in. :)
Is that a "zip-tied "windex....smart move I havent seen before. Well done One Life!
Hey Allen! Yep it sure is!! Thank you!
Wow - this was great! I love all that you two do - the sailing, hiking, meeting the locals, and helping others out! This episode seemed like a day in the life on passage (even though it wasn't) with the bits about washing your face, folding clothing, working on the boat, fishing, sleeping, and watches... Way to keep on moving even with mechanical issues! Brooke, you've come a long way - love it!
Hey Donald! Aw thank you so much! I really appreciate that. Still learning every day of course! We really enjoyed putting this video together as we love sharing the sailing and passage going with everyone. Part two is coming soon and it's another good one full of the day to day sailing!
@@SailingOneLife Looking forward to it :)
I love extreme weather. When the two of you were heading into a squall, does it excite you or not? I would agree with the sending unit diagnosis. As long as it's not dropping, keep on sailing.
Gary LOVES sailing in extreme weather.........I've only recently started to enjoy the thrill of it! It took me a bit to become confident in my abilities as well as One Life's! ~Brooke
On RVs and I think the same would apply to boats, I always try to branch off with a T fitting where the oil sensors connects to engine, and install a mechanical analog guage on the T fitting along with your normal sender. That gives you a backup oil pressure gauge to fall back on or reference. Just a thought you probably already thought about. Enjoy your UA-cam. Always wanted to sail, but I've been a dry lander all my life just because of where I've always lived. But I am a full time RVr. Thank you for your channel.
Yes that would be a really nice setup! We now have an external pressure gauge that can be temporarily threaded into the sender port for analog testing. This way we can use it on our generator as well or lend it out to another cruiser when needed. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoy the videos! Cheers!
You both are very calm in spite of the oil pressure issue and storm potential. 😊 Incredible looking meals…thank you for the mini dolphin show!
Hi Christina! Thank you for such a nice comment! We have learned to go with the flow out here! Some days are really good and some days we really struggle!
Acapulco got hit hard.....glad you aren't there for the storm
So sad to hear this about Acapulco!
Where to begin…I just love your guys’ videos and well, I just love you guys! You’re such a joy to watch…I love your laid back take it as it comes and go with the flow of life vibe exuberating from you! One of these days I’d love to crew with you guys! Oh, and Gary’s foot wave…😂😂😂 looking forward to part 2!!!! Stay safe out there…fair winds and seas ⛵️ ✌️
Thanks, Gina! We love sharing our journey with everyone. Your comment means so much to us. 💜
it sounded like Gary said we just broke up at the beginning hahaah
Haha we had to go back and listen!! Yup, we just woke up hahah
most likely it is the oil pump specifically the pressure valve is surely stuck by dirt or the spring that maintains the pressure is exhausted
I'll meet you at midnight - Smokie (official Video) . . 💜
I watched that storm the whole time worried about One Life! I cant wait for Part 2, Loved it so far! Yall Salt Babies be careful out there and thanks for bringing us along!!!
Thanks Urban Cornbread! We appreciate the good vibes you send our way! Part 2 is in progress! Should have it ready soon!
I would BET money its the sender
thats why i installed an actual manual gauge package as well as the electric gauges on my boat
Yep! Bad sender! Happy Holidays!
Love the video 😊
Thanks, Tim!
Do you guys worry about your stern Nav light not being visible because the dinghy blocks it? Also do you worry about that light making a spot in the dinghy from being lit all night right on the side of the dinghy. Great video with all the worry about the oil pressure and storm. Typically if the oil pressure screams it will pump oil will pump out the breather also. Pretty sure you have a bad sending unit. You both have grown as sailors and it is really cool to watch! Dane E.
Hey Dane! Some how we missed replying to this comment. Good questions about the dinghy and nav lights. We do worry a bit about our nav light on the stern not being visible due to the dinghy being on the davits. If we ever re-do or re-wire our stern lights we would certainly place them up higher so they aren't blocked by the dinghy. As far as the light making a spot, we don't think the light is hot enough to do any damage. 🤞
Miss Brooke is a boss….we love you too, Gary. 🤗
Aww thanks, Obie and Laurie! Miss you guys! We hope you had a great trip to Mexico! Hoping we see you in Mexico again in Feb or March!
For a slow float North it certainly is full of pressures. Storm weather p, oil p, sail p, on watch p, cartel p, drone p, no wind p, remembering to wash your face p ... it's good knowing there's a happy ending. Nice B&B t-shirt Gary.
Hey Pete! So good to see you and Nancy at the show! We should have titled this video the 'Pressures of Life'! So cool you noticed the B&B shirt!
I love how u guys just adjust and move on to whats most important at the moment and leave other things for later. The importance of priorities. Scary the plane and drone. Mexican cartel stuff at it’s best. Safe sail my friends. ❤🙌🏼
Thanks, Jorge! We don't really have much choice but to just sail on! The drone/plane thing was so strange.....no idea what was going on and we didn't want to know! 🙃
Another Awesome video, Thanks a million.
Thanks, Gibb! Hope you are doing great!! We missed ya on our Zoom call last night! Hope you can make it next time!
@@SailingOneLife Yea, I'm sorry I missed the call, I wasn't feeling well and crashed early. Hopefully next one I will be there. :)
Great video as always!
Hoping it is just your oil-pressure sender. I have had something similar, at low rpm all is well but as soon as you push the revs up a bit the needle just pins! Not fun when you are out on the ocean or like in my case on a long cross-country flight in a plane! No pulling over to check it out! Turned out to be a rusty/worn spring in the oil sender.
Hey Rudi! Oh wow.....in a plane?! That is much more terrifying! So glad you were able to land safely!
You guys have come a l9ng way as sailors even with a storm coming a d engine problems you look muck more relaxed and confident, stay safe and have fun
Thanks, Brad! We really appreciate this. We have come a long way since we left Florida but we are still learning and developing as sailors everyday!
I fill my week watching your adventures from the beginning, waiting with bourbon... no that's bated breath... for the next episode. Love sailing with you guys! Be safe!
Hey how'd you know we like bourbon on One Life?? The KY hat must have given it away.
Did you get a new American flag at the Annapolis boat show? 😜 great episode!
Hahah! Yes! We are in the states through Thanksgiving but we will be bringing back a new one to Mexico with us!
Glad to see another episode. Looking forward to part 2 of this passage.
Thanks guys!! Working on editing part two now! It's got some excitement in it!
@@SailingOneLife Yay!! :)
So many dolphins!!! The high OP stressed me out from home, haha, you both handled it like champs. Miss you both!! Fair winds. #armadillo
Miss you guys!! Hope you crushed it in Amsterdam! We have recovered and are ready for a Dillos reunion!
Guys in an episode, can you possibly consider refresh your fishing setup. Including Sea of Cortez changes in tackle. Could we get some good video of your system to mount pole holders. Any thoughts on your current setup? What would you change if you could? Thanks. Stephen
Hey Stephen! Our current set up seems to have done pretty well for us, we haven't changed anything from the Caribbean to the Sea of Cortez. If you haven't seen our current set up, we talk about it in episode 70 (A Bittersweet Beginning) around the 25 minute mark. Hope that helps a bit! :) Let us know if you have any specific fishing questions, happy to answer them!
@@SailingOneLife Thanks, that will get it. Great channel.
Outstanding video. Agree that Brooke is a “kick some butt’ experienced sailor and handles that role well 👍. Great to see the team spirit, the driving force behind One Life. Cheers 🍻.
Aww, thank you so much, Trent! I am still learning but I've come quite a long way since we left Florida a couple years ago. Cheers! ❤️
I think it was in episode 31... I saw Brook wearing a UK Wildcat ball cap!! Go Big Blue!!
Hey Bruce! Yup! I'll have to dig that hat out of my clothes locker for you!
Great episode, you two make a great team. A lot of yanmar engines don't even have an oil pressure gauge, mine doesn't, just a low oil pressure alarm so I wouldn't even know of a potential problem. Despite the frustration of the fault happening at the start of the passage you both stayed calm and accepted the situation , good work. 👍
Hey Graham! Thank you! We try our best to stay calm and sort through things. Happy to hear it comes through in the videos! Interesting to hear that most Yanmar's don't have an oil pressure gauge, didn't realize that.
That had to be incredibly stressful... Having engine issues while a tropical storm was threatening with light or no wind. You two handled it in stride though. -Larry
Thanks, Larry! It was definitely not the best feeling in the world but definitely could have been much worse! We appreciate all the good vibes!
@@SailingOneLife I'm sending you lots of those. Please put my mind at ease and dig into the situation with the forward bullhead and chain plate as soon as possible.... Before the big next step. Make sure all that wood is solid!
😊❤❤
💜💜
Hey Brooke and Gary, was wondering where you were then I saw you on the Delos welcome video as Brian celebrated his circumnavigation. It was great meeting you in Annapolis, Brooke you are much better looking in person and Gary I would have loved to chat more but you were preoccupied with other, but good to meet you as well. Damn boats, always something. Hope you sorted the oil pressure issue and good seeing you this week. Ed
Hey Ed!! So nice to meet you in Annapolis! Now we can put a face with your name! Have you made your solo sail yet? Curious how you make out! Cheers!
Never sailed , not much boat experience at all, but the more videos I watch the more I'm in favor of an outboard. Inboards just seem to have too many issues. May be wrong, but that's all I see on sailing videos.
Hey James! Both have their issues - just like anything else! Hope you are enjoying our videos. Cheers!
@@SailingOneLife I'm sure they do. Be careful out there, and have fun.
Just a quick comment if you have oil pressure concerns again where you can't just stop and work on it, it will be a bit messy, but pull off the valve cover and look at the oil in the top of the head. This will give you an idea how the oil system is working. As stated before, high oil pressure will not usually cause catastrophic problems, but could create some leaks. Thanks for letting us share in your adventures.
Hey Tim! Thank you! Appreciate your insight. It ended up being a faulty pressure sender.
I love watching you guys. Someday we'll break away from the rat race and cross paths on the ocean. :) Question for you: My wife and I have long had a dream of cruising the world, but we let careers own us too much. Q: How lonely do you get out there? I ask because my wife is the adventurous one and has been ready to jump on this lifestyle for years. But my job move three years ago right before COVID has landed us in a place where we don't really have friends and even more complicated by what COVID brought. Now, after a few years of loneliness my wife is less excited about this type of lifestyle because she's recently experienced what it means to be more lonely and fears the boat life will only exacerbate that. How do you (or others in same situation) manage not having close friends to hang with regularly?
Hey there! We actually don't get very lonely. There are quite a few sail boats around most of the time. Whenever we are in a busy anchorage or marina it seems fellow sailors are always getting together for sundowners or pot luck dinners. We are always meeting new friends to go on hikes with, dive or just hang out with. The sailing community is fantastic!
Zihuatanejo bay is the best place for shelter
Hey Jack! Yep, Zihuatanejo is a good place for riding out a storm but unfortunately the storm was projected to hit nearby so we wanted to get further away from the path.
Great video. You two look so tired in this one.
Thanks, Michael! Yeah, we were pretty worn out during this sail. The first couple days of a long sail always wear us out.
Guess Gary has added an analog oil pressure gauge to the supply list, hope you guys were able to resolve the problem!
Ok, what is you recipe for your Thai noodle dinner you made, it looked very tasty!
Hey Jerry! Ha, you know he immediately added it to our shopping list! We just received it while back in the US for the boat show. I don't have an exact recipe to follow as it always changes based on what we have onboard. Here is what I try to use though! I normally don't have rice noodles so I'll substitute with linguini noodles. In a separate pan I sauté any or all of the following (pretty much whatever we have to toss in....we NEVER have all of this!): cabbage, carrots, cilantro, onion, mushrooms, peppers, peanuts, bean sprouts, grated ginger and the fish or whatever meat we have and mix in sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic, a bit of curry powder, a spoonful of peanut butter and some coconut milk. Once all cooked, I sprinkle garam masala on top. There is no exact science.....just throw it all in and taste test until you get it how you like it!
♥️♥️🥰🥰
Thanks for the love, Frits! 💜
If those are skipjacks they eat well
Hey Evan! Yep, skipjacks. We've tried them a couple times but we aren't huge fans. Maybe we aren't preparing them correctly. Any advice on cooking them?
boat issues on passage, oh joy. Speaking of joy, what happened to Darin and Krystl? I csan't find their channel anywhere. Heck I can't remember what their channel was. Keepp up the good stuff. Gary's reaction to the first dolphins when in troubleshooting mode vs the second and third when in relax chill mode. Precious
Hey Timothy! Ah yes we always get so much joy from boat issues.....NOT! haha. I don't think Gary was too impressed by my initial dolphin reaction.
Darren & Krystal have decided to focus their attention on their new charter operation! Go check out their website www.svtooshort.com
( Gary ) Look we may have a serious problem here with the oil pressure , the motor could blow up ! ( Brook ) But look Gary there's dolphins . LMAO
LOL I was laughing so hard when editing this footage... I should have been much more concerned about our oil pressure. Oops, sorry Gary!
Things that make you go hmmmm.... Low flying plane, probably below radar, with no lights on - what could that possibly be.... lol. The drone thing was weird though - maybe military?
Hey Brian! The entire thing was extremely weird....no idea what it was all about and we certainly didn't want to find out. 😂
I see a mechanical oil pressure gauge in your future.
LOL yup!!
UAPs doing nauhty things lol
Yup! 😂
How could you be Bobbing around when I was nowhere in sight? Know you all made it as I saw you on Nugget's boat at her party.
Ha where were you, Bob?!
Yes, we made it safe and sound just in time to celebrate!! We love Sierra, she's the cutest!
@@SailingOneLife I was Bobbing around 400 feet above sea level here on the TX ranch. Have watch both Sierra & the little girl on Ran Sailing grow up on You Tube, both too cute. Those Swedish woman make some pretty babies. I am guess you are of German back graound but am often wrong, Know Gary came out of the same Viking tribe I did.
Y’all keep throwing back the number 1 tuna in sushi Resteruant. Just cut the chin and stick it in a bucket. Ice it and cut the dark blood lines out. You will be surprised. Guaranteed! In Hawaii they’re called Aku.
We will have to try it sometime when we have ice!
Dude, you look much better with a beard. you guys are great. I like your videos, I like to learn things and I learn so much from watching your video.
Hey Jay! Ha yeah thanks I'm a fan of the beard too. Happy to hear you are enjoying our vids and learning with us!
So I'm guessing it was a spaceship
Maybe?! 👽🛸
Are boats equipped to use a diagnostic tool like cars are?
Newer boats with newer engines do have computers and diagnostic tools, but our old 2003 Yanmar doesn't even have a computer. We prefer it that way for long distance cruising
👍🧿
⛵❤️
Hey, I just noticed that you have in boom furling. Do you prefer in boom furling over in mast furling? I heard in boom furling was better.
Why you guys never use a tacker or similar, so you can get the spi tack closer to the headsail and out of mainsail wind shadow? You’ll be able to go a on bit deeper angle downwind …
Mostly because we don't have one! We attach the tack-line to the bowsprit which keeps the tack pretty close to centerline. When cruising, good-enough is often good-enough.
I think it would be cool if you had a date and time showing on the videos like the old camcorders. I don't even know if its possible with todays cameras.
Yeah that would be cool! I'm sure there is a way to put a time and date stamp but we don't know how to!
@@SailingOneLife yeah I would have to get an 8 year old kid to TRY to teach me how to do it!! LMAO
@@TheJimmie5150 haha so true!
I think the sender is broken
. If you got regulator broken then you will have a low pressure
Yep you are right! The sender was broken.
@@SailingOneLife I am glad this was the issue ..yayyy
Sender is bad
Agreed!
Do you gays have gone into the water wen you see dolphins?.
Hey Byron! We have gone in the water with them while we have been at anchor but never while we are underway.
Hey, I just noticed that you have in boom furling. Do you prefer in boom furling over in mast furling? I heard in boom furling was better.
@John Rathbun
An in boom furled sail will hold a better sail shape because of its horizontal battens.
That's my understanding of it.
@@rickkwitkoski1976 that's what I thought. Also it holds the sail tight to the mast and boom for less wind slippage. Every little bit helps when you're dealing with a tenth of a mile per hour.
Hey John & Rick! We only have experience with an in boom furling system but we agree that it holds shape better with the horizontal battens. Also, if for some reason the furler gets jammed, we can still drop the sail which we have heard is a bit more difficult when an in mast furling system jams.
