I really love that I showed up to a couple with an alligator living in their guest room. And now I’m watching y’all in your own studio. In your own warehouse. Across the road from your own zoo. It’s wonderful.
Did I watch the old one when it came out? Yes. Do I know from my own research how to ship reptiles? Yes. Do I need to watch this? No. Will I watch this whole video now and probably again later cuz I love you guys? Yes. 😂
I do not own a snake. I have never owned a snake or any kind of reptile. The probability that I will ever have to ship one is veeeeery low. And yet, here I am. 😂
Me, who has no need to ship reptiles: This is critical information and i am going to info dump it to someone. But fr I share alot of snake discovery advice with my friends or acquaintances that have pet reptiles or something along those lines.
I love how I most likely will never be shipping reptiles or amphibians yet I’m still watching this video😂😂😂 And was still super excited when I saw what it was about
I really love this. Would you consider doing/redoing a video on how to prepare to take in a friends pets in an emergency or evacuate safely. Another important one would be keeping animals safely warm during a storm.
I've been rewatching some of your building the zoo vids and I didn't realize how long it's been, but then I was watching this and I realized it's been a long time since I've seen yall do a reptile unboxing video cause I haven't heard Emily say "and there's the heat pack" in ages it like sent me way the heck back omg. Idk, I remember yalls original how to pack an animal video and a lot of the stuff you did from long before the zoo, it's great to see you guys grow over the years. I don't have any reptiles, but it's always fun to drop random fun facts I've picked up from this channel.
This was interesting. My baby corn snake was shipped to me from Indiana or Illinois. I don't remember which state. I wasn't Iowa, though. The breeder used a different retile shipping company; but, I think it works the same way as the one that was mentioned in this video. My corn snake was shipped in August when we were just coming out of a heat wave; but, the outside temps were still in the 90s and my place faces East; so, we get all of the morning sun until about 12:30 pm when the sun starts going to the other side of the building. I was gone when the Fed Ex delivery was made. I told my son to listen for the knock on the door. When I got home, my son said that the Fed Ex guy didn't knock. So, he did not know how long the baby snake had been sitting in the boxes before he took the package in. Luckily, the baby cornsnake survived the delivery. He started out eating pinky mice and now eats fuzzies. He spends most of his time hiding and comes out when he wants food. He is about 18 months old.
I work at one of the FedEx Express ship centers that accepts live animals and I love any time I see one of those white boxes come over the counter. I love looking at the side and seeing what kind of baby we’re sending out! My tip for anyone shipping reptiles is to be aware not only of the weather where you are and where your destination is, but in Memphis, TN. The vast majority of our domestic packages go through the Memphis hub, and if they are expected to get bad weather (especially heavy snow or ice), it could very well cause a delay for your package. If you are super extra worried about your animal arriving the next day but Memphis is going to get a snow or ice storm, it may be a good idea to wait until the weather there clears up to help prevent delays on your package. Recently at my station, someone came in and tried to ship tortoises with no heating or cushioning. Just loose in a reused Amazon box in the winter. Obviously we did not accept the package. The person was upset, but luckily a local reptile store was able to accept the tortoises as surrenders so they are in safe hands now. I wish I could have showed that person this video to help explain what was wrong with their packaging and how dangerous it was for the tortoises.
This animal of Chinese New Year this year is the year of the snake 蛇! Y'all should do a special event to celebrate this event because it won't be the year of the snake for another 12 years. 😊
That's how the Chinese zodiac works? I guess it makes sense. 1 year for each animal and then at the end of the cycle it goes back to the first animal again. I guess I never really considered how it works until this moment. Lol
Can you do a video on bearded dragon care and setup please? I've always wanted a bearded dragon but don't know where to start. You guys seem like you know what you're doing!
Oh oh! I got one! IF YOU ARE SHIPPING INTERNATIONALLY for what ever reason, make sure you do your conversions and EXTENDED weather checking. I don't know how many companies might ship a reptile out of country, whether it's over the oceans (which i don't think anyone would do) or just over land. You need to do your research for that too. Another one is more of a safety on the sellers part unless it's a company really ('cause they prob wouldn't do this), but do your research on where the customer lives. I don't mean stalking them or anything. I mean about their reptile laws. Each state and country has different laws regulating what animals can be kept there as pets, especially incase they escape.
I have to give you a big thanks for the help. I have been looking into how to safely ship my babies reptile for awhile😆. This has help clam some nerves.
Ive watched you folks now for years, me and my partner bonded over talking about your videos among other things. We named some of our snake pokemon hognose after the love of them that youve shared with us. We wqtched the first day of the zoo being built and back when rex was in her pool making a moldy mess and popping the bottom with her teeth. One day i plan to take him to your zoo. Thank you guys for all the hard times youve gotten us through
some other things: it’s important to know to which 3 major fedex hubs the package will be going to. you will only know after printing out the label. on the bottom of the label over the bar code but under the tracking number, will be be a set of letters. starts with X, going to Memphis. starts with N, going to Indianapolis. starts with G, going to newark. if it starts with a number, it’s going on a truck straight there. it’s important to check temps at those fedex hubs since any package with animals you ship will be onboarding the first plane at 11pm in your city/ area and then at 3am, it will reach one of the major hubs where the animal can freeze, even if temps at the customers house is good to receive
Could you guys eventually do a crested gecko care video? I’m getting a crestie this year, and have watched at least 20 different care videos, but I wish you guys had one.
This is also largely good advice for shipping invertebrates like tarantulas. The actual container holding the animal is different procedure depending by species and there's all sorts of videos for that, but I've had five tarantulas shipped to me packaged like this without issue or injury
And remember- in extreme weather, heat or cold, that causes DELAYS- DO NOT SHIP AT ALL. Most people/breeders who care will hold a reptile weeks to MONTHS until it is safe to ship.
3rd beautiful new filming background now that I've noticed, all with similar professional aesthetics! Did I miss a video or Patreon post with the update on the space in the Snakehouse?
@SnakeDiscovery a tour would be awesome, love them already!! It's so fun to remember watching videos in your previous kitchen and the old room with the green trees in the closet, and then to see the growth year to year!
Emily can you do a video on how to keep reptiles warm during power outage. I took in a ball python to faster, but spent so much money getting him everything he really needed, he is just gonna be part of the family. poor little one had such a horrible situation. I do not know everything but he is certainly better off.
Please don't tape over the center of a heat pack. The red stripe side is the porous side of the pack that allows it to pull in oxygen...which is how heat packs work. Usually the plastic coated side has adhesive, but you can tape the corners/edges down for extra security.
Emily: Make suire to wrap it in paper towel to prevent accidental contact! Also Emily: Let's just have the redline visible when I'm 'shipping Rosie off'. No one will notice the lack of paper towel I JUST said to use! La de da XD
One thing i know you often do when unboxing new animals and have mentioned previously is to record the unboxing to prove the condition of the animal when they arrive - you had one small snake years ago that ended up having a small wound on her - i think that's when you were still filming in your old kitchen- been watching for years! My daughter introduced me to your videos in an attempt to win over her "scared of snakes mama" to letting her get a snake - 😂❤
They've said previously that one of the reasons they initially kept Rex as opposed to finding a zoo/rescue is because she wouldn't do well with other gators. She was never raised or socialized with other alligators, and because of her stunted growth, she'd likely get picked on.
So much decorating! You must have a new studio area! Will we get a tour video? I think I remember you saying in a previous vid that one corner of the Snake House was going to become a fancier set.
I don't know if it's different there but I know the UK post and courier services HATE you putting tape over the shipping label as scanners struggle to read the bar codes.
I keep getting freaked out with the new background! Where is this? It's nice, although the videos definitely feel different and honestly a bit more scripted
I'm not even a reptile owner, but maybe it's important to match up a feeding schedule, so they haven't just eaten before shipping? So there's no regurgitation in transit.
Amazing Video! Can you guys teach us hognose snake owners signs of average hognose snake weight? For being a thicker species, it’s hard to tell if they are overweight or not
Question: if you're packing the reptile yourself, purchasing & printing the shipping label yourself, and dropping it off at an animal shipping FedEx facility yourself, why do you also need a reptile shipping company involved?
I really love that I showed up to a couple with an alligator living in their guest room. And now I’m watching y’all in your own studio. In your own warehouse. Across the road from your own zoo. It’s wonderful.
don't forget the breeding facility so two warehouses
I'm literally never going to have to ship (and probably won't receive) a reptile but I'm definitely watching this video ✨
Well it's also useful if you ever order a reptile, you get a good idea of how they get there :)
Same, shipping live animals is not even legal where I live.
same
Not for me
Did I watch the old one when it came out? Yes. Do I know from my own research how to ship reptiles? Yes. Do I need to watch this? No. Will I watch this whole video now and probably again later cuz I love you guys? Yes. 😂

Nice to see that Rosie hasnt changed and still tries to eat Emily whenever she gets the chance 🤣
