Thank you sooooo much for making this video! I just ordered my first paint inlay to try! But, 2 projects I wanted to try, painting first was going to be an issue. I don't have any DIY paint products yet. I was wondering if gel medium would work instead of liquid patina. Thank you so much for sharing and ultimately saving me some time and product!

Awww, thank you Candice. You're very welcome. I think you will find that the gel medium will work well. I have never used Liquid Patina. I recommend testing a small piece of paint inlay with the product, like Liquid Patina, that you want to try. I had great success transferring the Paint Inlays on the following surfaces: 1) Small wood plaques and angel wings base coated with Rustoleum Chalked Paint in color Linen. Let that dry then I brushed on Golden Gel Medium, Soft Gel, Matte and immediately applied the Paint Inlay. 2) Applied gel medium to a bare, unpainted resin IOD Frames Mould and added a small piece of paint inlay and it transferred great 3) Applied gel medium to a dry brushed painted wooden spool with barely any paint and brushed on a coat of gel medium then applied Paint Inlay and the Inlay and it worked great. Note: I have tried Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and Amy Howard's One Step Paint with Inlays applied to those paints and they transferred well. The KEY is to be sure you follow the steps and make good contact of your inlay to your paint or your gel medium, hence spritzing with the water after you lay down your inlay then smoothing out with a paint blade of IOD roller to make sure you get that good contact. I hope all of this helps. My heart's best, Kimberly

    Love the inlay tutorial.
I know this video is 2 years old, but I do hope you have bought a better water bottle to spray down the inlay when you are ready to pull it off.

Hi! 😊 Thank you. I still have the same old recycled water bottle. I like the way it sprays a fine mist. Maybe someday I will get one of those Mister brand deals I see creators using. 🤗🌷

Hi. You can try it in a sample piece. I am very partial to Golden brand Gel Medium. I don’t sell anything by Golden but just a fan and have used it a lot over the years. It doesn’t yellow your projects over time.😊

So would this work over stained wood instead of painting? Thanks for the info

Hi Sharon, I have not personally tried the inlays with gel medium over stained wood. I would test a small section first. Clean a small section with mineral spirits or try cleaning with alchohol to remove any residue like wax or grime, brush on a small area of gel medium then lay down your paint inlay and test out how they transfer onto your surface. Let me know if this works for you. I hope this helps. I'm here to help if you need me. K~ 0:-)

And I also meant to add be sure to spray seal your inlay with 50% water/50% sealer solution as I show in video to fix your inlay designs then apply your full strength sealer. Use water based sealer. I love Amy Howard’s Matte Sealer.
