- In today's video, Shannon from Pickin Boots Vintage shares some valuable tips and tricks on how to apply IOD Paint Inlays from start to finish. She has chosen a lovely rooster design using the Melange IOD Paint Inlay, to work with, which she will apply to a wooden board.
Throughout the video, Shannon emphasizes the importance of applying the right amount of clear coat or paint to achieve a clean or distressed look.
Watch as she demonstrates how to release the paper from the backing of the Paint Inlay using water and a sprayer, and how to seal the inlay using a water-based sealant. You'll learn how to touch up any lines and achieve the perfect finish for your Paint Inlay Project.
By the end of the video, you'll have all the information you need to apply Paint Inlays like a pro.

Great tips, thank you! FYI you can make almost anything food safe by spraying or painting on Shellac and curing for 30 days. Shellac is used on a lot of baby toys that toddlers put in their mouth.
Thank you, I was just going to search for that info!!
You are a great teacher! Thank you for sharing all the tips and showing us how to do it all!
Thank you sooo much for this tutorial. It's exactly what I needed.
So glad that this helped! Shannon is awesome! 🙌🥰
I learn something new whenever I watch you, thank you
Thank you for watching!
I am so grateful for Pickin' Boots Vintage (Shannon) content regarding IOD, she is thorough and easy to understand. She also demonstrates products that are current and fun. Thank you, Shanon, from Oregon.
We love Shannon🥰♥♥
Thank you so much Shannon. I have been using inlays for awhile with different success. This was so comprehensive and the oil based sealer will be a massive break through 🧡🧡🧡
So gorgeous, fantastic info!!
Beautiful! I think if when you put on your clear coat go WITH the grain & not against the grain, it would not create the wrinkles.
Luv this inlay … looks awesome on natural wood. Thanks for all the tips
These tips are awesome!!!!!
Very helpful! Thanks
I love that you test out products and ways to use the inlays and then share the results with us. You do amazing things with all of the iod products, but my absolute favorites are the inlays and transfers you apply to furniture - the couches specifically! Just beautiful work!! I do see other diy-ers using the inlays and explaining the process which is also very helpful, but when I hear someone mentioning things u can't do with them, or products u can't use with them I always find myself thinking "that's not what Shannon said!" Or "No sir, that's wrong, u need to watch Shannon from Pickin' Boots' do it!!!" because I saw your video about it!! (Especially the clear coat method because most people dont know they can do that since the inlays are such a new product.) I need to start linking your videos in the comments!!! Anyway, I just wanted to thank u for sharing your experience with us!!!
Hi Lara! Shannon is the best!!! 🥰🙌❤
Thank you so much for this!! These videos I volunteer my time doing these. I am glad people appreciate them and watch!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much for the great tips!
Thanks for watching Lisa❤

♥
Thank you for the great info❤
Thank you for watching 🥰♥♥
Good information thank you. ❤
Thanks for stopping by Cindy❤
Thanks for the great information. Could you put tung oil or linseed oil to finish and make it food safe?
What is the clear coat u are using, please.
Thank you so much for all the great tips ! I’m kinda new to chalk paints and sealers etc etc . Would you know if there is anything to put on a transfer on glass that would how up to being out side mostly rain, live in Florida. Thank you 👧🏻
Hi Lyn! While I can't promise 100% protection from the elements, I'll link a UV sealer for you. Any UV sealer should work well though😊 www.amazon.com/Krylon-K01305-Coatings-11-Ounce-UV-Resistant/dp/B00397STRW/ref=asc_df_B00397STRW/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198077767340&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16091649544796978983&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9032476&hvtargid=pla-350656820841&psc=1
What solvent based lacquer was used that didn’t smear the inlay?
Thank you beautiful
Thank you for watching Valerie❤
is there a reason you didnt use a breyer to press it down?❤
Thanks for this very informative video. I haven't tried the inlays yet with clear coat. Not gonna lie, I'm a bit nervous.
Hi Judy! It can seem intimidating, I would suggest trying a small piece first to get the feel of it. It's not as hard or scary as it seems though! You will love it😍🙌
You got it!!!
I’d like to know if your transfers will work on material. I have a purse that I would like decorate with your transfers. Can you offer any advice?
Yes - sounds like my next video!!!!! 😊😊😊😂😂
Makes complete sense hearing it! It’s like Alcohol based markers don’t go with solvent ink!!!!! Does Shellac work? Is it solvent based???
I have heard it does but have not tried it.
@@PickinBootsVintage thank you!!
How do you get these inlays to work on Metal tool boxes. I have no trouble getting them to work on wood but they will not transfer on metal.
Hi Camille! You are applying them onto wet paint on metal?
Wait. 13:02 i thought you said it did work with a solvent based varnish?? But then the experiment didnt work? I'm so confused lol Thank you so much for doing this!❤
Nooo! So at 13 minutes she says that she used a water based sealer, she tried a solvent based on the small piece but it did not work at all😟 I'm glad you asked before trying though!!🤗❤️
What clear coat do you use?
We prefer general finishes, flat out flat. You can reach out to your stockist though, as they may have other suggestions🤗❤️
I've always used a water-based so when you say "solvent based" are you speaking of oil based.. like a polyurethane? And to clarify... solvent based sealers do not work to transfer the inlay but it does work to seal the inlay (which has been applied using a water based clear seal). THANKS!
Yes!! Water based to transfer the inlay, oil/solvent based to seal the inlay. We have also sealed our inlays with general finishes flat on flat, which is a water based, and it works beautifully 🙌🥰❤️
@@IronOrchidDesigns love this SOOOO much. Can’t wait to try this technique
Mod podge does not work. Can you share what clear coats you use?
