I’d love to see you do a league :). Blood Bowl remains one of the best games for many 80’s/90’s gamer. I myself remember getting the box when I was about 17 which is just around the 2000’s. Back then it was already a Specialist Game, which made it even more special to our gaming group. We scavenged all kinds of GW models to substitute the teams which only had rather expensive metal mini’s only to be ordered from GW themselves. That box travelled from one friends home to the next (where we all collected and watched games being played by 2 of us) commenting along as if watching tv-sports. Good times!
The Blitz still use up a movement? If So the Blitz at 33mins that killed the player on the line would've needed another GFI test to make the Blitz... ? (also no SPP for crowd kills😉)
I can't tell you the amount of nostalgia this brings back. My first GW boxed game with the syrofoam board. I painted the skull with the Gene Simmons KISS makeup....I think this is the first game (not the last) that I threw my dice into the street after the number of 1's that I rolled with my Skaven team.
Know a guy who’s had a die betray him too many times, so he lined up all of his other dice and made them watch the betrayer melt in the microwave as an example. He only did it the once, so it must have worked.
The blitzer didn't roll a Dodge before the human team scored and there were so many times you rolled both down with a black orc and didn't use brawler even though the other result was a safe roll of a push. That being said great video, definitely a lot to remember when you're playing both teams in a new edition 😂
First Blood Bowl Second Season Batrep to go online, Kudos. I'm loving the new version so far, for the most part the subtle rules changes are only good for the game, especially the new Passing Stat. I noticed that you made a few mistakes that could've changed the games result quite a bit. 25:50 you didn't need to spend a team re-roll, the Blitzers now have the Catch skill which (if it hasn't changed) gives that player a re-roll. 56:01 you mistakenly stood up a player who should've stayed down due to Stunned. This is why Stunned players are turned upward at the end of the turn. It would have made the Block thrown at the goblin (56:51) one dice rather than two. 1:09:19 Unless the rules have changed for the new edition the Endzone doesn't count for a Touchback as the ball must leave the field or cross the LoS back into the kickers territory, the Endzone counts as part of the receivers territory. Let me say though that for a Demo game non of these errors really matter at all and didn't detract from my enjoyment of the video in any way,l I just thought you should be aware for when you get to play with other people. :D All in all a great presentation and it makes me even more eager for the time I can get my hands on a copy. Once things settle down a little I'd love to see a tournament on the channel
To add to this - Brawler skill on the Black Orcs would have let him re-roll some of the "Both Down" results. The curse of demoing with 2 new team's, and playing both sides, is the increased chance of missing their skills.
Made a return to blood bowl this year after a 25 year lay off. Rediscovered my love for painting and creating teams Now have a regular group I play with, very much looking forward to the new edition Lizards for the win - Team name: Jurassic Pork
30 minutes in and my internal gamer is screaming.... ya left a lineman on the border of the pitch, forgot the loner roll on your thrower (prayers to Nuffle being new so minimal annoyance), forgot to do a bonehead roll for the ogre before blocking, then used a second RR on the same turn...
Yeah, pretty much stopped caring about the video after the first turn for the Imperial Nobility. Glad Ash was just having fun, but honestly just couldn't bring myself to watch any further.
Same. When he burned the second team reroll in one turn, that was enough for me. The same forking mistake back in 2016 with the Human vs Orc starter box.
in BB, do the moves first that wont cause a turnover. Then do the 2d blocks, then do the ball handling, blitzing passing ect. And always expect to fail :)
Never played blood bowl, but I liked the look of the last version and this one looks better. I am super tempted but with all the other things I have to work on (primaris dark angels and Necromunda in the works) I don't think I should. Should I ???
So I recently started playing the video game version (I’ve wanted to play tabletop versions of Warhammer, but I guess for me, videogame versions are best because rules are built in, so I won’t make too many mistakes) and from seeing the tabletop version of Blood Bowl has taught me that trying to break free from the line of scrimmage is just a very long and arduous process in both media 😂

My FLGS is about to launch into Blood Bowl and that was the push I needed. I've bene curious about this game for a long time. Thanks for this video! Great intro to the game and overview.
Gave away my 1st Ed Blood Bowl box (from 1986) about 2 yrs ago when I didn't think I'd return to GW products. No minis in that one, just foldup card players. This looks like a fun return to the game.
Normally I would complain about rules stuff but I just enjoyed seeing someone play all out without regard for standard tactics and such. First turn. I am like that person on the sideline is going into the crowd the instant you moved them there. I am sure it was to show off the rules.
Great video I personally love bloodbowl. And yeah we know there were issues with rules. However I always see let's plays as a demonstration of the flavour of the game. And in that respect, great job
@1:09:15 From the kick-off the ball ends its movement in the End zone causing a touchback. but the ball is still in the receiving teams half of the pitch, so shouldn't it have stayed there rather than causing the touchback?
I had the polystyrene board edition in the day, I cant remember if that was 1st or 2nd. Soon collected a wood elf team with the metal treeman and funky masked elves. Wish i could find it, but parents chucked it out decades ago!
If I remember rightly it was 2nd, 1st was in an A4 sized box with cardboard standees. I had bot editions but it was a long time ago so I may be getting mixed up.

I was always a fan of buying rerolls (because my dice-rolling ability is poor as I'd fail to pick up the ball on a empty square with Sure Hands) and fan factor (because it helped on a few of the kickoff events and money at the gate) but nice to see that you have lots of options for bribes and star players.
I never played Blood Bowl in the 90s but I’ve heard my friends bang on about how it was the perfect game. Something which I never quite followed until I saw your ‘gushing’ intro. It was so heartfelt and warm I instantly felt the love that everyone has for this game and I’m glad my brother and I picked up the 2nd season (each) to see what the fuss is about. Needles to say, after watching you go through memory lane I am totally psyched to get cracking with building and painting (will def take me more than a day 🥴! Normally takes me a day just to build up the resolve to start assembling - I’m very much like you in that I hate the building part of the hobby). Anyway, loving the game so far, have got my trusty rule book to hand and reading it as I watch you errrrrrr play with yourself?!
Hahaha! I’m glad you enjoyed it. The design team REALLY hit the nail on the head with this one from the art direction to the tone of the writing to the rules all the way top to bottom. I couldn’t be happier with this edition of the game and it’s never been a better time to hit the Astrogranite!
@@GuerrillaMiniatureGames the whole thing looks awesome even to having to roll for the weather! Can’t wait to get our first game in (after all the lockdowns etc etc)

Ah, the allure of the Astrogranite. I've always loved Blood Bowl, and having finally played the new edition (it took a while because of that whole Nurgle plague going around), it alleviated a lot of my worries about the changes. Oh, and one last thought: Given how small the old orc models are, it would be amusing to use them as goblin bruisers!
I've just figured out what this game is missing: advertising hoardings around the perimeter. A computerised scoreboard complete with sound effects would be cool too. And umpires. With rules for players to assault said umpires.
Just got my 2nd season box and a couple of extra teams Ash. As a complete Noob, l found this video the most informative one l have seen up to now. Thank you. I intend to 1,learn the game 2, build and paint a good all-round Orc/Goblin team to tour in the spring 3, build same team again in away colors. Any advice you could provide on actual team-building would be great. Going for teams with no star players or big guys to start with. A learn blood bowl from the beginning series would be super cool. Thanks again, Gar Zinski. ps. Our little exhibition games will be mostly orc v orc as most of the guys involved have ork related u tube channels and are uk based.
Well, I loved the video.Though like a lot of others I noticed a few mistakes but there was one mistake that maybe I'm wrong. In old rules when knocked faced down, the only thing you could do was turn over, Unless the rule has changed? At the beginning of the human teams turn you started turning stunned players face up then after doing a couple more moves you stood them up like they were only knocked down. When I ran leagues at my store I had a house rule that you couldn't turn players face up until the end of your turn. Made it less likely that this would happen and it was automatic so no one was forgotten. But to your credit, you were playing both teams and Bloodbowl does make you use every single brain cell. Still a good job.
I was running Derby GW when the box your dad got dropped we had black and white striped refs shirts for staff it was crazy we had like a 100 players in on Thursday Games Night during this release.
Hi ! Thank you for this very cool let's play. I love how you painted your human team. Could you tell me please which method and color did you use to have this nice and shinig armor ? Thanks a lot.
excellent work Ash. Unfortunately the preorders flew out the door in NZ, so hoping they'll get some more in soon! Query, did they change the rules for blitz with rushing (go for it)? - you use to have to count a movement for the act of throwing the block
I thought only one RR per turn? Almost sure turn one humans you used 2 that turn. Also, at 33:41 you blitzed with a black orc I thought the rule is that an extra movement would also have to be expended for the actual block. I only saw a GFI roll for an extra movement, but not the block
Question: don't you need to declare the type of action you're going to do at the start of a player's turn. So when you go to pick up the ball, then decide to throw it, you should declare that when you first activate the player, right? also pretty sure you need to use PA to pass now not AG
Just getting ready for my first blood bowl game and trying to learn the game. I had to comment as I cannot imagine painting an ENTIRE team a day!! Im using the contrast method and still only managing about one model every 2-3 hours haha
My very first thing I ever bought with my own money was a BB 2nd edition boxed set. Played that for several years with a few friends, then started again around 2005 and played in a league. Just bought the new 2020 boxed set and myself and some friends of mine are started up a little league ourselves. We'll see if we can get it to grow. :) The problem with playing solo is that you ultimately always are biased for one of the teams. Lol!!!
I thought blitzing cost a square of movement? Hence that Black Orc blitz early in the game would have needed a second rush roll to blitz that lineman into the crowd?
I would like to know which box game you think is the most fun for casuals, my wife, who aren’t going to memorize every rule or special condition for each dude. Debating BB, Warcry, and stompy fighting robots
I remember many years ago, at Food Machine, sitting down and talking with you about Blood Bowl. I remember us being pretty aligned in our love for BB, and I'm glad to see your reaction to the new edition. Makes me excited for mine to come in.
So I don't have that new rulebook yet, but looking at this on its face, I think that the 3+, for example, to have the thrower to pick-up the ball, is essentially the same as what it was before...with the new-tangled GW dice mechanic backed-in. Similar to what BS3 was like before in 40K. It seems that modifier for picking-up the ball is already included in that 3+ already includes the +1 modifier for that action from the last version. Although my guess is that the negative modifiers would still be applied when warranted. (Tackle Zones, weather effects, etc.) I am still early in this vid, but I have to say the the "Prayers to Nuffle" are really in the spirit of earlier versions...adding some randomness back to how the crowd impacts the game. This is awesome...and helps it become something less mundane to the game than just modifiers to kick-off results.
After seeing your review of the book, I definitely think you have dodging and jumping mixed up: at 57:05 you say there’s a negative mod for dodging away from the blorc but he’s dodging into an unmarked space. P. 45, “Marked Players and Dodging” says “… Note that if the player is Open in the square they have moved into, there are no modifiers or apply for being Marked.”
Blood bowl was my first gw game where I saw an add for it in dragon magazine and got the classic 2nd edition for christmas the year it was released (89?)
I got seriusly hooked on this.. Bought Blood Bowl 2, to play while painting.. And I learned the game a bit from it.. It´s brilliant. Great humor and cool teams. I cannot wait to play my Black orcs but the normal orcs in the PC game is pretty fucking brutal, atleast mine is... I win by beating the shit out of each and every enemy player now.. I love it! :D
leaving a player on the sideline! picking up the ball as the first action... they really have changed the rules a lot since I played... 13 years ago :)
Ash, question - it looks like armour values are one more than what they used to be. Is that right? (My high elves [Union Elves??] are doing a little dance right now).
You have to look closely at marking. With the ogre, many of the assists couldn't happen because they are marked due to adjacency. Good intro though! I dig it.
20:30 Did they remove the bad kick (extra scatter distance) result from the kickoff table or something? You used to roll scatter for the kick after the table roll in case the extra scatter result came up. Sounds like the cheering fans thing changed too - do you really only add cheerleaders to the roll and not your fan factor? That's kind of silly if so.
just that bit of new rule rubbish makes me wonder if the prays to nuffle is an improvement because it seems to me to slow down the game and waste time and flow of the game, personally i don't think it is needed so i would remove it
I've never played a miniatures game before but now I see myself getting this Blood Bowl and trying it out after watching this video. :) WAARGH SMASH HUMAN... (There is a ball round here somewhere).
Cool with a new Blood Bowl. But to me, Blitz Bowl is superior! :) Such a quick and frenzy game! Fantastic with the challange cards, Blood Bowl miss that.
the Naggaroth Stinging Nettles my first ever Blood Bowl team! Those Dark Elves made there way to fortune and glory!!!..... I mean not with any of the original players .... ya one by one they all died in grizzly brutal ways like Ickthain the Assassin brutally cutting down a tree man with one swipe of his poisoned blade, to busy admiring his handiwork to move out of the path of the fall, the witch Ursula Feinblood in a state of frenzy she tried to push a Rat Ogre off the pitch. it took a few hours but they were able to find most of her, but come on this is Blood Bowl! If you live past your first season your an All Star by default ..... Maybe it's time to bring back the old flags and wash out the blood stained jockey shorts .... The Nettles shall sting again!
Yup! Everything else is identical. And the new rulebook is REALLY comprehensive so you likely won’t need anything else except if you want to buy more team boxes!
Incorrect about other teams and miniatures not being available 25+ years ago. All the teams were available as pewter miniatures. I have them all still. I love this game, been playing it since the cardboard standee teams of 1st edition.
Ash those blitzers have catch, they have builded free reroll for catching an accurate pass. Ogre need to roll his bonehead check before you declare an action for him and you can't burn a team reroll in your turn more then one,you cheated yourself again. Also Wrestle is not a new skill xD
After about 30 minutes I just thought: Not really a second reroll in the first turn. I now will watch the first turn of the orcs and hope that the human at the sideline will be pushed into the crowd ...
I think people are being a little harsh criticizing the tactics/strategy, it's a let's play. However, you get multiple rules wrong constantly throughout the game. Missing Bonehead roles, missed a loner roll, tackle zone issues, using a team RR twice in a turn, using a team RR to reroll one die. Using too many block dice & missing assists, and that was in like 4 turns. If you're a new player watching this, take it as entertainment. There are many errors with the rules, almost every turn throughout the game.
You know it's hard to watch when take in mind Ash played this game many times before, watching him using mutliple times team reroll in one turn, forgeting about bonehead/rly stuped rolls before any action for big guys. Ash should invite someone to play ,who knows the rules and cath him making those ridiculous mistakes...
@@jshaw5000 I was merely informing new players to be wary of using the video as an assist to learning the rules. I was completely "chill" the entire time :D
Hey ash, lets do a deal... I will build for you and you will paint for me. I love assembling GW plastic as I find it relaxing and soothing while watching a series in the background but I HATE painting.

Made it less likely that this would happen and it was automatic so no one was forgotten. But to your credit, you were playing both teams and Bloodbowl does make you use every single brain cell. Still a good job.
Possibly a change, but don't 3Dice blocks require mor than double?
They do; that hasn’t changed. S7 minimum to 3Dblock a S3 player.
OK I liked without even watching yet LOL
I was running Derby GW when the box your dad got dropped we had black and white striped refs shirts for staff it was crazy we had like a 100 players in on Thursday Games Night during this release.
Hi ! Thank you for this very cool let's play. I love how you painted your human team. Could you tell me please which method and color did you use to have this nice and shinig armor ? Thanks a lot.
Check out my on the paint table from today!
excellent work Ash. Unfortunately the preorders flew out the door in NZ, so hoping they'll get some more in soon!
Query, did they change the rules for blitz with rushing (go for it)? - you use to have to count a movement for the act of throwing the block
well...... probably should have finished watching the entire video first - you corrected!
nice work
OMG the anxiety you gave me in that 1st turn! Going for it 2 times on the 1st turn without moving any other things omg
Like anything in life, do a thing long enough and you get kinda good at it. :)
26:03 - Actually you can now use as many re-rolls per action as you want.
Check out the starters for Warhammer Underworlds and Blitz Bowl!
@@GuerrillaMiniatureGames thank you!
Correction - the teams of 'Legend' (including High Elves!!!!) arent in this rulebook.
(Tackle Zones, weather effects, etc.)
I am still early in this vid, but I have to say the the "Prayers to Nuffle" are really in the spirit of earlier versions...adding some randomness back to how the crowd impacts the game. This is awesome...and helps it become something less mundane to the game than just modifiers to kick-off results.
Thanks for the video!
I used to go to that Oxford St store :)
It was a classic red carpet location! :D
Having played now. The black orcs won the first game and just Plowed the humans off the pitch. Theyre looking very exciting to build on in a league
Around minitue 36:00 you stand up the Ogre without rolling for bonehead
It’s interesting that this game kinda works well even if you play solo.
You vs dice. Trying to have a "normal" game
One reroll per turn still?
No
After seeing your review of the book, I definitely think you have dodging and jumping mixed up: at 57:05 you say there’s a negative mod for dodging away from the blorc but he’s dodging into an unmarked space. P. 45, “Marked Players and Dodging” says “… Note that if the player is Open in the square they have moved into, there are no modifiers or apply for being Marked.”
Hey bud! Love that paint job. What's the brass/copper paint on your Imperials?
Blood bowl was my first gw game where I saw an add for it in dragon magazine and got the classic 2nd edition for christmas the year it was released (89?)
The Noble minis look much better in real life. I'm pleased.
I love it! :D
18:06 - If you have 3 players or less, you CAN forfeit without penalty. But you don't have to. :P
It's the most minimal and futile thing ever but I utterly love the new sidepitch sheets🤷
leaving a player on the sideline! picking up the ball as the first action... they really have changed the rules a lot since I played... 13 years ago :)
Ash, question - it looks like armour values are one more than what they used to be. Is that right? (My high elves [Union Elves??] are doing a little dance right now).
It shows the roll needed to break it; so the AVs are the same because the dice roll needs to be higher!
@@GuerrillaMiniatureGames good to know.
You have to look closely at marking. With the ogre, many of the assists couldn't happen because they are marked due to adjacency.
Good intro though! I dig it.
MUST see a halfling team in action!
Flings FTW!!!
Thanks for the demo, I think I have fallen in love with the game, need to get it now :)
I think you missed the kickoff loner result on the thrower on the first turn. That prayer to nuffle will probably require a token or something.
just that bit of new rule rubbish makes me wonder if the prays to nuffle is an improvement because it seems to me to slow down the game and waste time and flow of the game, personally i don't think it is needed so i would remove it
27:33 - Sorry to correct you again. The Grab skill prevents Side Step, but doesn't affect Stand Firm. Ok, that's it, I'm going to shut up now. :P
Even though I keep trying to not buy GW products for a whole year, I never quite can.
Look forward to watching later... I fancy something new to paint soon... blood bowl or Mantics kings of war sea game...
That 90's black orcs diet worked! 😂😂
Blitzing orc needed to dash again for the hit into the crowd, no?
I've never played a miniatures game before but now I see myself getting this Blood Bowl and trying it out after watching this video. :)
WAARGH SMASH HUMAN... (There is a ball round here somewhere).
This is a great game to get started on! Everything you need is in the box in coloured plastic. Just some clippers and glue and you’re good to go!
This looks like a ton of fun. I need to try it
So I bought the 2016 starter box just before this new edition was released, do I just need the new rulebook to play with my old pitch/models?
Yup! Everything else is identical. And the new rulebook is REALLY comprehensive so you likely won’t need anything else except if you want to buy more team boxes!
I love the way you painted the Noble team tokens, probably my favourite tokens to date that come with this team.
Incorrect about other teams and miniatures not being available 25+ years ago. All the teams were available as pewter miniatures. I have them all still. I love this game, been playing it since the cardboard standee teams of 1st edition.
That little ball is so cute
I bought the 2016 version less than a year ago and got to play it once xD ouch
BLOOD BOOOOOOOOWL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was the sponsor of this game Butterfingers?
NAILED IT
Prayers to Nuffle use the d16, not 2d6.
I find ity so funnt that you don't like building toy soldiers Ash. It's my favorite part of the 'not gaming' part of the hobby
crack out the old warhammer quest tiles and play some dungeon bowl traps and all
that sound awesome.
From what I've seen there's little difference. They tried to encourage more passing, but heavily reenforces running routes.
i have the second edition just before your, from 1988
Ash those blitzers have catch, they have builded free reroll for catching an accurate pass.
Ogre need to roll his bonehead check before you declare an action for him and you can't burn a team reroll in your turn more then one,you cheated yourself again.
Also Wrestle is not a new skill xD
Also really stupid is a 4+ if not next to a "smart" teammate unless they changed it but his opponent never caught it so...
@@VaneHartless473 Ash didn't learn nothing from his previous bloodbowl promotion game from 2016
More blood bowl!
Chill out... everyone makes rule mistakes for new editions.... Feel free to create your own video where you do it "perfectly".
@@jshaw5000 I was merely informing new players to be wary of using the video as an assist to learning the rules.
I was completely "chill" the entire time :D
we got gotrek & felix as referee, what could be better ?
Best game GW has ever made.
Really? Maybe i should get it.
I think I might get this box
Hey ash, lets do a deal... I will build for you and you will paint for me. I love assembling GW plastic as I find it relaxing and soothing while watching a series in the background but I HATE painting.
