The instructor was the Drum Major for one the greatest drum corps shows of all time and it's inspiring to see that his passion for music and drum corps has not waned. There are few things more magnificently powerful than the massive and clear sound of a well crafted brass choir. I can't believe I just now saw this video.
I marched in the 70's and was in the first DCI in Whitewater. These "kids" are from another planet regarding the book to back then! This corps is breathtaking!
Oh my dear lord. I can only imagine what this will be like in August. They are already playing better than most corps do in August but somehow they manage to raise what is already incredible to another level.
I had a dream . It was a sick and twisted dream . This horn line . Devils drum line . I was trapped to never listening to anything else ever again .I glued my headphones on and nailed my door windows and doors shut .They someday will find me with the loop still running ,and a smile on my face as wide as the grand canyon .... This line is so good I believe Crown has it to take GOLD if their drumline can realize how lucky they are to sweat nails for their hornline in the next weeks .
This is one of the best horn lines I have heard in more than 30 years of playing and listening to drum corps . This show is also the best I have seen going this year . Good luck CC . I really think and hope you take it all at Indy, it will be a crime if you don't .It is all up to hard work now . . (Sorry BD , you disappointed me )
I LOVE directors and instructors who get so intense and aggressive when they teach lol it's a boost of confidence that helps you play better sometimes. Plus it's funny to watch :)
I love how this went from this to the fantastic performance at finals. I could feel the difference fro June to August. loved this Show, congrats on the win.
Thanks so much for posting this...I went to the theater and was COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTED with the coverage! The only reason I went and spent $15 was to see CAROLINA CROWN! So glad they KILLED IT last night!
I only got to catch Crown early in the season @ Stanford, wishing I could have seen more! Admittedly, I am a Blue Devil loyal, but Crown made a fan of me that night and I would be happy to see either of them take the gold this year!
They were in Utah a couple weeks ago. My friend and I watched them rehearse for about 2 hours. Then later we watched their show at a competition. Lets say..... I have been converted into a crown. Plus they took 1st place at the competition. WAS AWESOME! >:D
I guess I've been ruined by the Blue Devils always blowing their brains out with warmups like these, but I half expected a trumpet player to crack and take it up a notch @ 1:12.
They did, it just doesn’t stick out to keep the balance of the ensemble. BD’s lead trumpets are insane in how loud and consistent they play high notes, it’s just a little different preference in how they balance their chords
When you've got a 1st place hornline, 2nd place guard, and 7th place drumline it really shows how important each section is in the corps. Even with an incredible hornline the drumline was the reason they didn't get first during quarterfinals, they're lucky they kicked it in gear for semi's and finals
i may have just hear the (insert religous leader here ) its so angelic and beautiful i could not understand how so many talented individules could be in one place at the same time
The opener is a mash up of the theme to 2001 A Space Odyssey and Phillip Glass' Einstein on the Beach opera (also of which the show is mostly based on).
Just saw them tonight for the First Time this year at Semi-Finals in Indianapolis. I am a Drum Corps Fan and have always had an affinity for Blue Devils Brass but there is no way Crown should be behind Blue Devils this year. Though I must say I think Crown's Arranger decided to see how many notes they could get into a single book....They were awesome in my book.
Perhaps you misunderstood me...I was complaining about the editing done for Prelims for the Fathom presentation in the movie theater. It stunk and did not do justice to Crown's fabulous show this year. I posted my observations in several places online, and I also wrote to DCI, etc. in hopes that somebody would "get the memo" and improve the coverage for semifinals and finals. Apparently, they did. FYI - I've been an avid Crown supporter all year! I recognize quality when I hear it...
Because it's not just about playing a lot of notes cleanly. Crown plays amazingly and deserves to win the Ott Trophy again. But I do think BD's music has greater depth.
It probably doesn't help that CC has people talking through half of their show telling a story that the guard is perfectly capable of telling without narration. The talent is there. It's the things that stand in the way of the talent actually being focused on. Those are the problems.
in my experience, most sax players make a perfect fit for Baritone/Euphonium. and like Jesus said, never too late... unless you're older than 21... then it's too late to experience this.
Amazing, except for the Baritone intonation around:48-:50. It's rough. It seems like their mid-highish range is a little weak. D's, Eb's, and F's. Love the corps! Still things to clean up, as usual! Go crown!
You march Gold? How is it? I was thinking of trying out next year for snare line or if anything march euphonium since I play trombone during concert season.
I'm just pointing out the lack of percussion judge. I wish they'd hire Rennick's line. I am in no way rooting for the blue devils, but I'm being realistic at the same time, the brass can't can't pull the corps if the percussion doesn't back it up. P.S. As long as you don't flag the comment informing people about DCA being an alternate to being old, then I'm happy.
by far my favorite dci show ever. too bad i didnt know drum corps existed in 2013
Lmao same
Yo check out 2002 cavs
Nor does it exist in 2020
@garrett I have, about 50 times. Crown 2013 is still my favorite
Sameeee
The entire book is delicious but the mellos definitely got the coolest licks. I'm glad this show got the recognition it deserved.

Agreed! No drum corps should be thumbed down. All the kids deserve to be applauded. These BD haters really need to grow up.
No
That Last Chord! So I'm not crazy when I hear the Mello's play that lick, while everyone else holds the chord!
That mello lick is what got them a perfect score on finals night. It was so clean.
This is probably the best sounding hornline I've ever heard
Probably? Absolutely!
one of the finest horn lines I've EVER heard in my listen/watching DCI since 1978... U.F.B. !!!!!
I marched in the 70's and was in the first DCI in Whitewater. These "kids" are from another planet regarding the book to back then! This corps is breathtaking!

Thank you for recording and sharing the best hornline! GO CROWN!!
Can't believe it was only June when this was filmed

How can someone even joke about not liking something this beautiful and powerful?
Lol you can hear the blue devils space chords at 0:30

I too wish you good luck! Although it'll probably be years before I can attempt to audition, I'm already looking forward to it.
Loved your show in Omaha this year! Good luck in finals!
saw them in AZ first show opener! crazy how clean they already sounded.
Can't wait to see these guys in Murfreesboro tomorrow!
There is a reason that this video has zero dislikes, and that reason is because crown is crazy good!
No, I did last year....It was the best time of my life. Go for it @Superunknownful, The staff is great:) I cant wait to see how they do in INDY!!!
I am a saxophonist and marched 3 years with the Colts - you can definitely do drum corps!
I guess I've been ruined by the Blue Devils always blowing their brains out with warmups like these, but I half expected a trumpet player to crack and take it up a notch @ 1:12.

So much power and dexterity in this brass line!!
im a bassoon player, but im doing corps on contra next year. its never too late to start!
1ST PLACE TONIGHT BABY
i may have just hear the (insert religous leader here ) its so angelic and beautiful i could not understand how so many talented individules could be in one place at the same time
Can't wait to see them in Indy :)
i wont even say where that opening line comes from in case there's a copyright issue but bless the crown for doing this monsteriffic show
GOLD! do it up in Indy guys!
....I will join a corp one day. Your group has just cemented my choice.
Did u?
Freakin awesome sound!
hope you make the one you go for! I'm planning on auditioning for a corp this winter too :3
I also can't wait to see everyone at Murfreesboro today
Crown brass will never disappoint.
God damn I thought their warmup videos from Indy last year had razor sharp cutoffs...holy crap
The opener is a mash up of the theme to 2001 A Space Odyssey and Phillip Glass' Einstein on the Beach opera (also of which the show is mostly based on).
:( I got into the wrong line of instruments. I love the saxophones, but this would be so amazing to be part of
Those tubas at :55 though that was amazing
Nope never too late to experience. Get into MBI or Buc's in an all age corps and it still sounds like this.
Great Stuff
Saw them Monday in Buffalo
good question on the BD comment
Love that horn line!!!!
Sweet Xmas...Magnificent!

To listen.. My Corps performed earlier. GOLD!!!!
Never too late to start, you never know what you're capable of unless you do it :)
great show
NICE WORK!!!!
The Drumline is actually doing a very respectable job this year, definitely not high percussion material, but still good
This got so much better by the end of the season. at this point, it was a diamond in the rough...and I mean rough.....
It probably doesn't help that CC has people talking through half of their show telling a story that the guard is perfectly capable of telling without narration. The talent is there. It's the things that stand in the way of the talent actually being focused on. Those are the problems.
just stay positive hehe, and when you think you can do it, go for it! confidence is useful. :3
i saw these guys in RCC! Wow!
Chills. EVERYTIME.
That mello rip at 2:17, is that the same one as in 2012?
Their lead tech is so awesome, it's not even funny. He is so good at his job.
@ 2:14 i started to see colors of the music thats how amazing this is
I'm not discrediting Richard Strauss, his piece was made famous by Kubrick's 1968 film.
@Jake Colston Because Carolina Crown's show actually made sense.
That sound >>>
GIVES ME CHILLS!!
This hornline is CLUTCH!
in my experience, most sax players make a perfect fit for Baritone/Euphonium. and like Jesus said, never too late... unless you're older than 21... then it's too late to experience this.
OH MY GOD. 2:18 MELLOS HAD THAT SAME RUN LAST YEAR
Great News...GO CROWN!!!
F***ing incredible...
I got chills!
Never too late, I join every family young so I could build evenly
It's also getting them first place in GE.
and crown won in buffalo in the tour of champions tonight :3
amazing...

Go crown!
I cried
You march Gold? How is it? I was thinking of trying out next year for snare line or if anything march euphonium since I play trombone during concert season.
DCI: The only competition where you can play THAT amazingly well and still get 2nd to a bunch of plastic poles....
I wish I could :/ have fun!
Will do, and you too! Head high!
You marched for Gold last year??? Do you know Michaela Cragg & Tyler Ferrell?
Indeed. As much as I do not care for their book at the end of the season I do not see them as being the reason Crown does not win.
Its brad!!
so fucking majestic!!!!!!!

CMFC!!!!!!!!!!! 2013 champs!!!!
BD's drumline man..
Where you just there to listen to drum corps or part of the drum corp staff
WOW. And BD music is beating this?!
They melted faces finals night. Completely unreal.
