2012 and 2013 were such legendary horn lines. 2012 played an insanely hard book very well and 2013 played a much easier book absolutely perfectly
2013 show was so amazing it made a judge cry
7:02 digadadatdigada dat dat dat dat dat (Matt Harloff screams incoherently) IMPACT gets me every time

tf even is this reply
you never realize just how loud these bands are, that was a grown man screaming as loud as he can and you cant hear him at all
Such balance from top to bottom. Intonation is either there or corrected in milliseconds. Playing with air, crescendos to each release. Proud to have marched the same corps as this brassline.
if you marched from 2012-15 i want to thank you for your service, God's Brasslines

"Correction...correction...we have a correction." Damn straight you have a correction. Jim Ottt Brass Award: Carolina Crown
And what? The show sucks ass
@@Mrtellitlikeitis sorry that you have no taste
@@Mrtellitlikeitis I’m a BD fanboy to the point where it’s concerning, but even I have to admit, the show was reaalllly good and the brass book was a lot better and tasteful than uhh… BD’s jumbled up shit from Cabaret Voltaire.
These last couple of years (and especially this year), Carolina Crown's brass has just been SO much better than everyone else in the drumcorps world, it's not even funny. They have definitely EARNED the Jim Ott each time they have won it. I really hope they keep it up, because they are one of the few drumcorps that actually still SOUNDS like a drumcorps should, imo.
Time passes by huh
already been 10 years since this rehearsal
I swear, that instant initiation of sound from the entire hornline is stellar, along with the fact that the overtones lock in immediately. It really is astounding what a group dedicated towards a common goal can do within a summer.
Simply, The best horn line in DCI history.
i misread the title thinking this WAS Avon hs.... i was about say, DAYYYYYYYYYYUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Section shorts! Yellow for euphs, pink for baris, green for tubas, black for mellos, and two different shades of blue for trumpets.
Pink all the way!
A modern day star of indiana, my god they sound amazing, I hope I can march there one day
Listen to the air and fingerings at 6:03.
But did you march there tho?
@@UCCJGUY I want to know this too
Did you get to March?
@@UCCJGUY He marched BD---he did okay = ) So many great corps out there now...hard to choose at times
At 4:00 we're playing with our tuning slides pulled out, commonly known as "foghorn".
What's the benefit of doing so? Is it meant as a training tool to push air while still getting the resistance of actually playing the horn?
Yeah basically im glad someone pointed it out
There's a ton of uses for it.. mostly for response and pitch centering. You can hear every little inflection in pitch center and tone when on foghorn. We were using at 4:00 to work on releases and note shape without playing the actual chunk on the horn. Foghorn is great for taking care of/saving the chops by playing the horn without playing the horn.
Excellent middle school beginning band impression
Love it! Watching and listening to these rehearsals is almost as enjoyable as the live performances. i just get shaky in the knees when I hear the harmony and precision.
Holy overtone Batman. 8:38 - end.
I could listen to Crown's Hornline warm-up and rehearse all day long!! Simply Beautiful.
We do that to listen to one another, and to make sure that dynamics and articulations are being matched. As well as making sure everyone can play the part.
So many wonderful amazing teaching techniques to acquire from this video.... and from the Jim Ott award recipients for best hornline. This video is a brass instructor's dream. Thanks for sharing!
Oh my god, I almost thought this was Avon. I had to read the title again. However, Avon high school hornline is amazing and I would have been easily fooled. I met Carolina Crown back in high school and they're so amazing! Love you Crown!
I freaking love this. Not like I would have thought it wouldn't be. These amazing sounds give me so much inspiration for just marching my rookie year.
I seriously can NOT wait to be apart of such a talented group of musicians. I have never been more excited in my life to audition.
Did you make it
@@rossvistamail dawg asked 9 years later 💀💀💀
@@shariqarain did he make it doe
ugh so perfect!
We did it to match tone quality, articulation (timing, style, definition, etc.), releases, dynamics (rate of crescendo, decrescendo, etc.) and other things. A great all around exercise for us this year.
3:36 - Listen closely and you'll hear a 'C' overtone in the tubas, only achievable by perfect tuning.
EVerything in this video is amazing!!!!!
True. The staff did mention that. Haven't heard of a runthrough that late before, usually there's some sort of noise ordinance. Seems as though they didn't have to worry about that.
That feeling when you get it right! 7:04 and hearing Harloff scream! I always enjoyed that when I marched.
Truly amazing plain and simple.
fantastic horn line!
Good to know, thanks!
I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!
Holy lord. Well done from this Scouts alum. That is one insane horn line.
If I remember correctly, they pulled the tuning slide out on one end. It also seems like they're pressing the valves all the way down on the video, but it's hard to tell.
NOBODY sounds like Crown.See em live and its all goose bumps
This video reminds me of the Star of Indiana 1993 Brassline video...
Actually, the corps had gotten in about 5am that morning, had about 6 hours down and started rehearsal about 12 noon.
They were tired, but not exhausted.
the amazing thing about this is... that since seeing Crown in 2013 and watching so many videos of their rehearsals, warmups, and performances - they sound much dirtier in this video. The last two show segments they play still sound amazing - but the difficult runs they are rehearsing in the early parts sound MUCH dirtier when compared to what they achieved with E=MC2.
Fanfare for the common man is just absolutely amazing as assume seeing how they are playing it and it is amazing to begin with
@1:13 That part reminds of the scene on Monsters Inc. when the monsters walk out onto the floor for work. I wonder if that's the same piece?
We only do that when we're working on timing or articulation stuff. We're doing that and working on runs to make sure that we are all playing everything the same way and the same time, speed, technique, etc.
IU is was out of session, so much of the surrounding student housing near IU memorial was empty. Also, with the acutual field at the stadium is below street level. The stadium holds sound pretty well.
There is also an unsderstanding with the IU and Bloomington police about drum corps rehearsing at the Stadium..that whole bill cooke thing..
I absolutely love the part at 1:17. OMG
I like that there color coded 😊
It was then I realized that I want to be like them someday.
Wow, just WOW
love the yellow pant section! EUPHS!
Wow. A hornline breaking passages down into check patterns. That's how you do it.
We got up somewhere around 9:30 and left for avon at 10:15.
At 1:13 they are playing Fanfare For The Common Man.
Out of curiosity, why were they facing each other at 4:50? Was that for timing?
Didn't do them that good catching up to BD did it?
What's the exercise at about 5:00 for?
6:40-7:12 is absolutely fucking flawless. If you don't enjoy that then you don't love music.
Niiiiice
The sound that Crown produces is so intense and awesome that I have now busted my cellphone's speaker.
At 1:09, the sun said to the clouds, "get outta my face, I'm getting a glimpse of the fanfare!!"
Is that Josh Workman at 1:24?
that was a show excerpt, we used it to clean up the triplets
The air is so in time.
Crown is...just..bawler.
Gods hornline 😇🎺
section at 1:15 is amazing
Whats the song called at 1:50
+Jordan Smith fanfare of the common man
I'd guess it was because they were on a college campus and there was nobody around.
That air!!
What's happening at 4:00?
Mark Romero They call it foghorn, with the slides out.
Their valeves are halfway pushed down.
8:03 Hope they play this at the gates of heaven.
this stuff is fucking insane...
Fannnnnfaaarrreeee
I see me!
3:35 Oh there she is!
1:20 has some poetic scenery going
This is harder than any of their recent books.
so you can keep your 'partner' honest.
6:41 to 7:13, Proves that they should have been champions this year....
FUCK YES! so. legit!
6:40 amazing
That's probably true. I know Crown uses that technique as well. Pretty genius, actually.
If you can make Matt Harloff scream... you can make anyone scream
Bookmarked...
are those women's pink shorts?
+zork zork clothes have no gender
Damn Avon they win all the competitions
6:41- 7:12 .......Holy fuck

8:34 = "WE WON".
3:30 that fucking REVERB

Nope
2:50 to 2:59 One, two, BUTTER BUTTER BUTTER BUTTER.....sounds like butter anyway. Yum.
Not sure why that got so much attention...
We all know how BD is treated. And it isn't unfavorably in the least.
Two different shades. hahaha
6:40 youll thank me later
Half-valving.
What’s the girl doing. She’s dreadful. Cant keep time. Omg
