- The Millennium Falcon is undeniably the most famous starship of all time, but the real-life history of the Corellian YT-model freighter is just as intriguing as its exploits on screen.

I had the privilege to walk up and into the Falcon during the shooting for Force Awakens. I used to work for Lucasfilm and was on set for a few days. The Falcon was kept in a separate sound stage at Pinewood Studios. One of the most memorable moments of my life.
Usted es una persona con mucha suerte muy pocos han tenido ese privilegio de trabajar con Lucas me da gusto
Daaaannnng😮💨
It's crazy that the coolest thing ever, doesn't really exist. The Falcon and Darth Vader are why I love Star Wars so much. The Falcon is the chariot of the Rebellion!
If you believe in an infinite universe, which many scientists have shifted back to, then there would actually be a real falcon and Vader out there. Every possibility imaginable can happen. Even Vader fighting a Xenomorph with his lightsaber and Hudson piloting the Millenial Falcon. Check it out.
Nothing new to me but I just cannot resist watching a video about the Falcon. This video however does feature way more than the basic background information. Well done!
Could have had a full model with full interior made up then made it into a tourist attraction.
They have something like that at disney land (or disney world or both I don't remember)
Man do I have a place for you
@@plain3089 both
@@plain3089 both.
Im reasonably sure that no one had that foresight in 1975
The Falcon appears in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo during the battle of Sector 001 in Star Trek: First Contact.
its true...i had to watch that segement 10 times just to see it, but its there
Guess Han had another hyperdrive malfunction and the Falcon became a time-machine.
@@twistedyogert The implications of this are funny. Considering you can only go to hyper space in a like special lane or whatever to my understanding that would mean as soon as he appeared in that universe he would not be able to go to hyper speed. And would only be able to do so upon returning back to the Star Wars time. Unless in this hypothetical hyper space is just another word for sub space which could be possible.
The asteroid field scene is my favourite scene in all of Star Wars. The flacon, being chased by the empire, asteroids and of course THE MUSIC. Best music in all of star wars
Tied w/ "TIE Fighter Attack" alright!
My favorite is Lea in that slave outfit
I love the flacon too
11:28
I love how the cockpit was heavily inspired by a bomber, and in TLJ the resistance bomber has that cockpit. The little things.
1:25x is the perfect speed to play this video folks.
It really does!! 😂
I was looking for this comment
Iconic ship, is a understatement.
Best so far ever built and conceived for a in space adventure movie
The word "EPIC" sums this design this up.
great video, really makes you appreciate the work that went into making these films
yes!
Set building and scale model "mashing" to get new ships just completely blows my mind... like, the detail on those ships is unbelievable, and the inside of the Falcon with all of the tubes and whatnot hanging all over the walls. Incredible.
had to play this at 1.5 speed just to make it sound normal, still a very informative video.
Playing at 1.5 speed gives it a good BBC presenter voice.
Sundancepreacher I
Click on the gear icon in the video player, and you'll see an option for playback speed. I'm not sure this option is available on the mobile site or within the app though.
Blackstar 76 play on a PC in a browser or through a mobile web player rather than the app and it's listed as an option under the gears icon
I tried 1.5 speed and thought it was a bit too fast. 1.25 speed however is perfect!
I love this video! Thanks for doing all this work.
great video! underrated channel!
Good documentary. It had my attention the whole way through. I didn't notice anything about your voice until I started reading comments.
Still have the ILM book printed in early 80's with Johnston. McQuarrie, Tippet and the rest, great book!
these videos are outstanding. I never think i'm going to learn something new about star wars because i think i know so much already, and then something like this comes along. Fantastic! Subscribed.
ferris5150 Thank you so much
if you have enough SW books like a real fan should, you'd know all this already...
agfagaevart don’t be so entitled
Thanks for this. Plenty of stuff I hadn't heard before. Subscribed.
Finally another video! ! And what a FANTASTIC subject to choose! ! 😉 Thanks do much!
Good stuff! As a life-long Star Wars geek and lover of the Millennium Falcon, this was very entertaining.
In the early models of the Falcon, the cockpit was mounted in between the front mandibles. It remained there until Lucas decided to relocate it to the side of the ship in subsequent models.
Diligent , competent , well researched and well presented. Thank you BSW
After all these years I just noticed the Hyperdrive malfunction noise was also used for the ED209 "power down" sound in Robocop!
Also was used in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" at the beginning when Jones's plane goes down.

Love your videos, very insightful and interesting!
TrickyCustomer Maybe the best fan made Star Wars documentary ever!
I re-watched this awesome video and came to realize: Dude! you have to make an updated version with more extensive information from Ep8 and Solo!! go for the gold: 22 minute video! hehe
stunning work for a legendary spaceship !! thanks 🙏
it’s hard to believe that inspiration for the Falcon did not come from a semi-tractor trailer’s fifth-wheel... every time I see one I think of the Falcon... and certainly they existed before the Falcon or Star Wars was ever conceived
I swear the narrator could put Professor Binns to sleep!
Very cool vid man 👍
love the space 1999 info. This is also a big favourite show of mine
Good stuff! Most enjoyable!
Thanks for sharing 👍
This is one of the best videos I've seen on Star Wars. I loved it.
Now do Slave 1!!!!
thank you for the video. I like your channel.
Keep up your amazing videos man
That is exactly what i would like to know about Star Wars. THX for this real making off.
I love your behind the scenes videos dude!!! they are knowledgeable and entertaining, needless to say well researched!!! I wish you make one about the stormtroopers or maybe the AT-AT walkers! keep up the great work!!
Great upload I love this ship
That was a great video. I still spend half my thought in a galaxy far, far away. It's my happy place.
P.S, I had that model of the Falcon when I was about 12. I shudder to think how much that would be worth.
Love this!!
Great video
9:10 the original model was made from random Ferrari and Tiger Tank model pieces all randomly assembled together... what a monster combination and couldn't be more fitting. arguably the greatest sports car ever made and arguably the most dangerous tank ever made.
Excellent video
You should have stopped the music when showing how the sound was done.
Very well made 👍
Excellent and interesting video 👍
All these years and I didnt know the origin of the Falcon's name. It makes sense! Thx.
The music to this vid. Loving the remix.
Nicely done.
Great vide !! great chanel bro !
Your voice had me in a trance 😅
Love the seismic charge sound effect for the intro
thank you for the infos of the soundmaking..
thanx thanx for that effort to make this sexiest space craft, and named Millennium Falcon .
This channel deserves so many more subscribers, keep up the good work
Sickfool yup.
I'm about to start building my 1:1 scale of the 2 1/2 foot movie prop used in Empire Strikes Back which has a metal armature on the interior which includes an interior with full lighting, the kit made available by Model Space/DeAgostini. The kit as it comes is beautiful, however between Shapeways 3D printing and custom Photo Etch from Paragrafix this model is a spectacular crown jewel for any Star Wars fan and certainly for any Scale modeler. Loved this video, great inspiration.
Impressive, most impressive.
Fascinating.
This is always be my starship =D
I wanted one every christmas but waited for years until my parents bought me one, and by then i was growing out of toys anyways lol still, what an iconic ship, even folks who are not star wars fans know what the Millennium Falcon is!
K Mayne LEGO set* and no it’s not impressive, it’s ridiculously priced and has practically no interior (which it seriously SHOULD OF HAD since it's suppose to be a UCS set, and considering the price it’s absolutely inexcusable.) it may look nice but that’s practically the only thing it has going for it...
Great video once again! Parts of the music were a bit too busy, especially the parts with movie quotes, but that's all the remarks I have. :)
Thank goodness for that 1999 show!
Not only saved the Falcon, but the Eagle is also one of my favorite ever spaceship designs.
I remember watching Space 1999 back in the '70s late Saturday nights as a kid and loved it. About 20 years ago I got the whole series on DVD and for the most part it's not too bad but it does have a lot of warts, wrinkles, and stretches. The Eagles, Hawks, and other vehicles are great and very realistic. The spacesuits look like they're right out of 2001 with subtle differences. As for the moon breaking orbit with Earth and hurdling out of the solar system is hilarious. The tidal stresses alone would've wrecked Earth and without resupply from Earth everyone on the moon would've starved to death if the nuclear explosion didn't rip it apart instead, fortunately it wasn't written that way and we got a moon that could travel faster than light, slowdown at a planet and they takeoff again even though the moon appeared to just coast from planet to planet.
Then it travels though a black hole, meets all kinds of alien bad guys, gets and atmosphere, etc.
I still can't figure out why it was cancelled. :)
Beautifully done. Very interesting history. I love the Falcon!! However… I have one correction (which may only be a matter of opinion) but the crown for “the most iconic starship in cinema history” would actually go to the U.S.S. Enterprise from Star Trek. She is the grand dame of all iconic starships. The Falcon comes second, I’m afraid. 😁
Nah…
No.
I wish that we got to see The Falcon as a freighter cargo vessel in Solo.
Thanks for the upload! My ALL-TIME favorite ship! I never could understand the 'piece of junk' thing! Maybe, that's just how they saw it in that galaxy. Me? What I wouldn't do to take that thing to work everyday! The Falcon and lightsabers..stories unto themselves. Simply bad-ass! Judging by the history of the trilogy, it's amazing that we even got it!
As for the Falcon, were budget costs also the reason the escape pod was originally missing? I know they answered this in 'Solo', but I'm asking from real point of view. The radar disc was resolved in 'ROTJ'. No question there.
True, she's a little beat up but I like her.
Thanks!
Is it more iconic then the Enterprise? Hmm. Great video, thank you :D
Can't wait to see the falcon again on the big screen.
The Eagle and the Millennium Falcon - two of the best looking space ships ever :)
If only I still had the Kenner Millennium Falcon I had when I was a kid. It would’ve been worth a lot now
I love the Falcon. Always have. But to make the claim that she is "the most iconic starship in cinema history" is to expose yourself to a cinematic feud that rivals the Hatfield's and the McCoy's!
That is to say: the NCC 1701 USS Enterprise.
Star wars is more known. Alot of people still know what the name of it is even though they haven't seen star wars, my 28 year old sister for example. Not nearly as many would know the name of the star trek ship
Great vid mate. The Falcon is the greatest hunk of junk in the galaxy. I smile everytime I see it when watching a movie. Its a character in its own right.
Dont forget a copy of the Falcon appeared as part of the futuristic cityscape in Blade Runner that was deliberately snuck in by designers who had worked on the Star Wars movies and as an obvious nod to Harrison Ford who was the star of that movie.
Where do you get the remixes for the background music in your videos?
I would love to know the remix used in this
Now I wanna hear the narrator say, "I was working in the lab late one night..."
Best line from Episode 8 = "Blast that piece of garbage out of the sky !"
your videos are the best bro!
What’s funny is how often the millennium falcon changed but how I never noticed it at all.
Well that explains the continuity errors between models I have.
They're just based upon different sets and filming models
“It’s hard to make these movies without source material”..........Ok Kathleen, tell that to George
Hugh Honey WITHOUT SOURCE MATERIAL ????? WHAT THE FUCK KATHLEEN
I want the Lego UCS Millenium Falcon!!
Well Done.
Very well done.
"The Millennium Falcon is undeniably the most famous starship of all time" - The USS Enterprise has entered the chat.
Next to the BTTF time-machine this is the best/coolest prop in movie history
Full version of the millennium falcon was built in (South Wales) UK where I live 👍👋
The full size Falcon was built in Pembroke Dock I a Short Sunderland hanger by Marcon Fabrications before dismantling and taking to the Elstree London studio.
I just noticed there is a second YT-1300 flying out of the Coruscant spaceport above the one flying into it. Its shadow can be seen, with the ship above it.
Hey, where can I find that music that you have playing in the background of these videos. The EDM versions of Star Wars themes with all the SFX used as samples? I'd really like to give them a listen.
Am I the only one who liked the original releases that hadn't been touched up?
Great info!
Something I've wondered for years: Were the exterior Falcon sets built for ANH and ESB full-size? They always looked like they were scaled down to me. There's an exterior shot of Chewie yelling inside the cockpit (at Han, on Hoth) and he looks gigantic, filling the cockpit much more so than in the interior shots.
Another question: the cross-section you showed has a label for "gun well with rotating core." I can't figure out what could possibly rotate about the gun core, given how the laser cannons are attached. What rotates there?
nice
I absolutely Love the Millennium Falcon, it is by far my favorite ship from the movies. But as much as I love this ship, there’s one thing I can’t stop thinking about, if it’s such a popular ship amongst smugglers, why don’t we see more of them? either in different colors or other minor variations.
The galaxy is huge and smugglers stay hidden.
amazing documentary! really rarely seen images too!
Super NEATO!
Interesting tidbit for you. The rear seats in the cockpit are part of a Martin Baker ejection seat. The top part of the seat is where the face curtain go, and you can see the altimeter release on the left side. I used to work on F-14's and F-4 seats. This is a good shot.

I have made several diagrams of the interior of this ship, using the people as scaling guides. It is a fact that the interior shown on the movie could not fit into the ship shown outside.
He forgot to mention the dice hanging in the cockpit. They are a lucky charm. From the Sabbac game that Han used to win it off of Lando.
I might have missed it but you left out the batmobile JJ had production add for a publicity stunt with him and Chris Nolan.
I love your voice
Long live the flying burger.
There was a train called "The Flying Hamburger", although this vehicle wasn't named after the food. "Hamburger" is the name for a person from Hamburg in Germany.
