IMPORTANT EDIT: I was given feedback by Reddit users on the Avenged Sevenfold SubReddit on this video and the segment about most A7X's songs being in the major scale has been removed. The reason for this is that it is simply not accurate information. It was a mistake I made and have learned from.I want to do better for the next time. I want to apologize to everyone for this mistake! I value and appreciate your feedback! Enjoy the rest of the video :)
Luminous Dark From It was probably just the choice of using the Scream solo (very audibly harmonic minor) as the example right after talking about soloing over a major scale. Still a great video. Syn uses natural minor/Aeolian mode solos pretty frequently, which is a mode from the major scale intervals, so you weren’t implicitly wrong haha!
The chromatism in the 7th and 5th is one of the keys for this style of guitar shred . for example : Chromatism in the 7th of the armonic minor scale . Also the 5th like blues scale .
Syn has to be one of my main inspirations, A7X got me interested in guitar again and seeing someone go over his playing style is just up my alley. Thanks man, love the vid.
@@AsIfItNeverWas he didn't the main solo and outro solo just scream syn lol Zacky does have a little bridge transition solo in Demons though that is a shiner
All lot of those guys are all show. You don't feel anything when listening. Sure you can acknowledge the technical ability but it doesn't make you feel anything. Makes it super forgetful
His soloing comes closer to Slayer, or Exodus, than Pantera, to my ear. Granted, I've never been really into Sevenfold, but his playing reminded me more of those when I did listen to them.
This video is amazing! I learned so much by watching this. Why is this video not more popular? Thank you for taking your time to educate us, we appreciate it very much :-) You’ve earned yourself a like and subscribe!
Awesome man, I'm not a crazy A7X fan, but I can appreciate the technical skill of Synyster Gates. It would be cool if you did a video about John Frusciante of the RHCP or Mario Camarena from CHON! Also, I sent an email a couple of days ago and am just wondering if you ever received it, thanks, keep on making quality ass content!
Hey DaJackCat, Thanks a lot for the support and watching the video! I have noted your suggestions :) I check my Email about twice a week since I don't get much at all haha. I will check it now and send you a reply right away!
Hector Costa you mean the finger picking part? It’s possible I guess but I have the cd for nightmare and it only credits him for guitar solo on tonight the world dies
Wow, thanks! I really want to pick this series back up! This is the only one I've made. Now that I have a better computer I''ll give it another shot. I remember using premiere and after effects for this video and it was a nightmare due to the limitations of my computer back then.
David Peat I remember Zacky Vengeance expressing rage when referring to that B sides album, he felt that omitting a certain solo from a commercial release was absolutely criminal. He didn’t specify the title of the song, but I reckon it was Dancing Dead, that solo is is his best for sure.
Other than just the chromatic scale what other scales does he use. Ive never messed with chromatic stuff much so how do you know when to apply it without it sounding bad
Lucky I guess xD I tried to keep them short. Under 30 sec per song. My intention is to keep such videos under fair use. I hope that’s why I didn’t get a copyright strike.
Not watched this video. His technique is not Chaotic at all. He is a master of control and keeping within the confines of chord progression. I'll happily place I'm up with the greats. Satriani, Moore, Vai, Becker, Benicort, Malmsteen, Schenker. He shows feel and we feel it.

Do you have the new version uploaded?
@@jakholly2 Yes! I used the UA-cam Editor and it thankfully came out very seamless.

he reminds me a little bit of Marty Friedman, not in sound, but in his approach. controlled chaos is very appealing to me as well, great video!
Yeah I can totally see that. Marty Friedman is a legend. Thanks a lot for watching the vid! I appreciate ya!
The wide bends and paying attention to vibrato. Marty Friedman like, in that regard for sure.
marty is the only guitarist that comes close to gates
Indeed his unique use of the exotic scales etc
It's funny cause his style reminds more of Chris Poland's. The phrasing is different but there seems to be an overarching thing in common.
Syn has to be one of my main inspirations, A7X got me interested in guitar again and seeing someone go over his playing style is just up my alley. Thanks man, love the vid.
I think the dancing dead solo is the one where you can really hear dimebag
Didn't Zacky play that solo?
@@AsIfItNeverWas he didn't the main solo and outro solo just scream syn lol Zacky does have a little bridge transition solo in Demons though that is a shiner

I’ve listened to this band for over 15 years, and you’re teaching me something new. Crazy
I love chaotic, melodic and fast guitar solos. And a7x have so many of them.
I’m so happy you added Dancing Dead in the video! One of my favorite solos!
Glad MIA is getting the love it deserves here, its their best song imo
I see your content is serious when you start studying syn gates with M.I.A. solo... This solo is incredible, insane...
syn and zacky's harmonies always made me think of boston.

I don't understand anything about guitars, this video makes me feel like I'm having some brain surgery or something. *This is full of knowledge* XD
I describe his solos as clashes between Ying and Yang. Ying is the chaos, Yang is the melody. Fav band that's still producing.
For some reason I watch this video at least once every month
Thanks for the views!
Can we all agree the City of Evil is the shit?!
Stuff of legends

It's always good to do something different. Perhaps next time you should make an artist study about Tosin Abasi.

Amazingly edited and very well spoken, great job man.

Anyone able to tell me the solo at 6:12 after the scream solo?
Dancing Dead from their B-Side album Diamonds in the Rough.

Occasionally, his solo feels like gypsy jazz with distortion.
VERY true.
He's a big Django Reinhardt fan. You can hear little nods to gypsy jazz in his playing.
