Syn is such a classy guitar player, man. He really makes it sing. He’s just one of those dudes who, within a few notes, you know exactly who’s playing. The Stage is probably my favorite solo of his.
That's exactly why he's my favorite guitar player ever, along with John Mayer. Maybe not the most common combo to be mentioned together but both of them just write such incredible melodies and really sing with their instrument.
He’s one of the few guitarists I’ve seen in a popular metal band context that really improved and grew as a player over the years. Obviously very dedicated to being a player.
I've always loved his playing. He's a big inspiration for me and my playing. He even has an online guitar class catalog that is free. I've been messing with it for a while now
Avenged Sevenfold is the first metal band i listen to and love. It opens me to listen to more metal and explore the genre deeper. And the more i listen to other metal bands, the more i appreciate Synyster Gates. In terms of modern metal, he's the best
Syn father was a studio guitar player and just passed his amazing playing n certain tools which they call "creating your own weather". I've loved this guy since the second heartbeat solo he had me hooked. He had a leg up on some of us with having a great teacher and role model. Don't get me wrong practice is what makes you flawless. Play your instrument 3 hours a day for 5 years. Study theory and understanding that there's really no wrong way. N find your niche
I knew since City of Evil he was my favorite guitarist and he / the band would be something much greater than they already were at that point. I’m so glad I was right!
sustainiac _+ flat5+ 3nps penatonic with the double notes = synyster gates. AMAZING. him, knoeffler and paul gilbert are my favorite 3 guitarists. Thanks for the breakdown and not just saying wow like most youtubers do
Just watch him live for the first time. A7X visited my country after almost 10 years. Last time they visited us was when I was still in highschool. And it's worth it.
Great video mate! I've been playing on and off for like 2 years and I struggle to find the motivation because I dedicated months to practicing 24/7 and I'm still not where I wanna be skill wise. This is the first video I'm seeing of yours. Came across it by chance because I saw Syn in the title lol. You explain things really well and I could sit through it, which I usually find hard to do. Feel inspired to play. Thank you.
Avenged have been my favourite for years, so the bias has ''jury-sends-me-to-prison-motive'', admittedly. I even have Seize the Day tattooed around my wrist, and I've played guitar for 16 years. That being said, if you gave me the Guitar-crown-of-judgement, I'd forcefully put this guy on top. I''ve spend countless hours pitting his solos and lead-play against those deemed the best by popularity, and I'll die on the hill that's inscribed with descriptions of ratio'ed dopamin releases, He's given me goosebumps that even Jimmy Page could only dream of. New stands on the old, and as new should respect the old as legends, without moving forward, we wouldn't even have guitars to put our fingers on.
Probably the best guitarist of this generation 2000? I'm fukn blown away I never knew actually how good he actually was till now!!! Holy shit!! Saw them live 2013! They were good always been a fave band of mine since school days loved the REV what a hero best drummer ever!!! GATES u have blown me away wow best guitarist I've saw in this generation wow?? U must have put so much effort and dedication into ur practice to get to ur standard, not lot of people I can say that is a patch on you mate??
I have no lessons under my belt nor do I know any music theory or scales Im self taught and every A7X song I learned was by ear and when Hail to the King came around, I gave up trying to learn. He advanced so much between nightmare and hail to the king that I couldn't keep up 😂
I noticed the way Synyster Gates holds his pick in the Bat Country clips is different to the rest of the clips. It appears to be resting on the pad of his index finger rather that the side, in-line with the crease. Any thoughts on that?
he changed his picking style pretty significantly a bit after bat country came out so he might just be more comfortable playing it how he wrote it editing to say its just because the clip was recorded before he changed his picking style
Ok so what I've noticed (and I may be wrong) I don't play BUT I'm ambidextrous and what I have noticed about ambidextrous people and I think Syn might be ambidextrous just based on watching that clip in the fluidity he had with both hands but I'm not sure is that we can do things equally with both hands even if it's at the same time and it doesn't take a long time for our brains to adjust for instance if I'm doing a puzzle I can have a puzzle piece in each hand and be putting them in completely different pieces of the puzzle and have the puzzle together very quickly and I don't have to sit there and think about it I just do it which is how I'm able to put together 1,000-piece puzzles in a couple hours tops. I also noticed that it came in handy when I was doing marksmanship in JROTC and when I was doing some fight training with my nephew that does MMA because I don't so much have that deficit from one side to the other since I can use both hands as dominant. So based on what I was seeing when he was playing that guitar it's very well that he could be ambidextrous. Also fun fact about ambidextrous people yes you can spend hours and hours and hours to self to learn it but people who are ambidextrous from the get-go probably have family members that are as well because it is hereditary my uncle also has that ability 😊. That trade alone puts us very far ahead of our peers in a lot of things sports being able to play instruments like the guitar in the drums competitive fighting like martial arts and many other things. That barrier of one handedness doesn't affect us and our brains work a little different so it gives us an advantage it's kind of like a superpower 🦸 .
Also my son's teacher's are mad because he won't pick a dominant hand 😳🤦 I told them don't do that I'm ambidextrous and that's a hereditary trait he likely won't pick and does not have a dominant hand if he doesn't already favor one over the other. And apparently the school staff did not know what ambidextrous is or means or that it even existed until I said something which is ridiculous. I was like how some of you in that room has been in education for like 10 years and you've never come across somebody who's ambidextrous? I know it's a rare trait but it's not that rare 🤦
I love when people shit on gatesy. He is a fantastic guitarist in one of the successful bands on the metal scene. He is icon whether people like it or not lol
I'm a truck driver that has some drumming experience. Couldn't play a guitar to save my life. This if so fascinating. I really appreciate great music and the breakdowns.
I love music but don’t play at all and it’s funny to listen to this guy who clearly knows an insane amount about music and notes and shit and it sounds like a different language
That made no sense, he is an amazingly well respected guitarist in an amazingly talented overall band, for whom he writes lots of, if not most of the music for. I fail to see how a7x is overrated, when each musician is super talented and dedicated to their craft. There is a reason for the huge fan base, and believe me, Syn is not underrated, even his haters are starting to admit how good he is. 15-20 years ago he was definitely underrated, but now everyone is catching on.

Nobody's solo is the best of all, i think
He’s one of the few guitarists I’ve seen in a popular metal band context that really improved and grew as a player over the years. Obviously very dedicated to being a player.
He's definitely the modern day guitar hero for many!
He's the best modern guitarist imo, super inspiring and can make anyone's jaw drop with his skill
I agree! He's a modern day guitar hero!
Reminds me of Yingwie Malmstein. ..but yes, very good!
Buckethead
he and john mayer should be on top. a lot of legend guitarist give a compliment to both of them

My favorite inspirational guitarist of all time. Be blessed, Mr. Synyster Gates❤️
He really is awesome.
Hands down syn is the greatest guitarist of this generation
Maybe of all time?
@@stevenfilley7631 Maybe. If not, definitely on pace to be
Honestly he could be of all time so far. Yea theres some very respected guitar players from 80s and 90s, but nowhere near Syn
Definitely not
Tim Henson is up there too
Loved making this, SG is the man!
Couldn't agree more!
Syn Jason Hook and Dimebag are my 3 favorite guitarists
S.G is a monster player...thanks for showcasing him 🍺🍺😉🤘
No problem 👍 Thanks for watching!
Great to see John on hear again, a brilliant presenter
Glad you enjoyed it - he's awesome!
I absolutely love his gypsy jazz playing. It's great when guitarists can play multiple genres really well. 🔥🔥
Nobody talks about the fact that Syn actually changed his technique from a reverse pick angle to a standard angle and became even faster with it.
@@DestoTrading what does that mean?

Such a unique player, too.

Great video I love Syn gates, and loved when he added gypsy jazz style to his songs. But I also love your tone!
excited for their new album that will come out this year

Chaotically perfect.. he to me is #1 in talent and writing. His solos are a masterclass in guitar playing. He to me is the best ever

i remember watching the bat country video years ago but it's out of sync on UA-cam so i had to download it and throw it in sony vegas to fix it lol
Brian doesn't seem to want his name to be bigger than his band.
Syn is the reason why i play guitar 🔥

Aside from Dimebag, Synester is the man who got me addicted into metal music. And the rest is history.
Syn is the only guitar player that made me purchase 2 custom syn schecters even tho i dont play guitar

I don’t understand this lol. City of Evil was objectively way more complex than Hail to the King!
Agreed. City of evil was amazing. Especially the acoustic part at the end of sidewinder.
Hail to the king was probably one of their easiest guitar albums imo
