yes, but it wouldn't reduce the number of required pikmin. 35 are required for the second paper bag and no more than 35 are made before paying off the debt (excluding pikmin conversions), so farming bulborbs in the first cave would not help in the challenge, it would only be a tedious way of completing the same challenge differently.

Fun Fact: At 15:35, you can see the Yellow Onion sprouting up from the ground, kinda like Pikmin 1 when you discover them for the first time. This animation isn't actually used anywhere in the game, since all the onions are already sprouted when you discover them.
Does that mean they implemented it into the game as kind of a failsafe if a weird bug like that happened? Or is it a mechanic that was copied over from the last game?
@@BierBart12 it's an unused feature in Pikmin 2. I believe on the cutting room floor they even have the cutscenes of activating the inactive red, yellow and blue onions as they exist in the game but are never used due to the onions always spawning in active.
@@BierBart12 My guess is that Pikmin 2 was created using all the assets from Pikmin 1, and in copying those over the onions kept those old animations because the developers never removed them
Bulbmin will not follow you to the surface and are not counted as killed. At best they would count as temporary team members and would have no effect on the number of pimin sprouted.
My theory on why the Yellow Glitch works is that the cutscene only triggers with leaf pikmen. When they first joined his party, they were flowered. Then they lost their flower from the enemy, triggering the cutscene
@@syweb2 Well I guess there was a hidden cutscene that was meant to be used if you somehow plucked a yellow before finding them at the Distant Spring? Or maybe the cutscene activates when you’re a certain distance away from a yellow (not counting ones that are buried).
@@syweb2Could it be code left over from the first game? Pikmin 2 is known for being rushed with its reused maps from Pikmin, so it wouldn't be surprising if there was code from the first game that goes unused in the second and only can be activated with glitches and exploits.
@@TheFrantastic That seems likely. Even if it wasn’t rushed, that would still be plausible since games often reuse code from previous games in the series if they’re similar enough. Here’s my understanding if that theory is true: The wild Pikmin are programmed to not respond to being touched like idle Pikmin are, so it is expected that the only way to get them to join your squad is to whistle them, so they duplicated the code for plucking the first Yellow and Blue Pikmin for a new function that gets called when you whistle your first Yellow/Blue Pikmin. They had to rework it a bit, but it’s still mostly the same. However, the original functions are still in the code. This doesn’t normally matter, since they only get called if you pluck a Red/Yellow/Blue Pikmin when the flag saying you haven’t “unlocked” that Pikmin yet is not set, and both the old and new functions set that flag. Now, the thing is that wild Pikmin are treated identically to idle Pikmin with the following exceptions: They don’t get included in the displayed Pikmin counters, they’re colored normally (idle Pikmin are normally paler with glowing leaves/flowers/buds), they don’t die after sunset even if they aren’t at the landing site, they add to your Pikmin counts when added to your squad the same way a sprouted Pikmin does, they have a different idle animation, they inflict no damage to enemies, and they don’t join your squad by being in proximity with a captain. They do, however, still attack nearby enemies, pull nearby grass, and drink nectar like idle Pikmin do (in order for the wild Blue Pikmin to be attacking Wogpoles when you encounter them), and that behavior (aside from doing no damage to enemies) is identical to idle Pikmin in terms of how that works. Notably, when a wild or idle Pikmin finishes growing a flower after drinking nectar, if a captain is nearby, they will automatically join that captain’s squad; this is separate from the way idle Pikmin join their squad by being touched. If this happens before the “wild Pikmin” scene gets triggered, it still won’t trigger since that scene only gets triggered if you _whistle_ a wild Pikmin. As such, no flags indicating that either that Pikmin type or its corresponding Onion have been unlocked. (The only reason you may still be able to use that Onion for withdrawing that Pikmin type is because there is a separate check at the start of each day to see if you have any Pikmin of that type sprouted and, if so, you get an Onion there with the ability to pull Pikmin of that type from it.) Now, that isn’t enough. With the exception of the Violet and Ivory Candypop Buds, each Candypop Bud type checks to see if the flag for unlocking the corresponding color of Pikmin (not the Onion flag) is set, and they will not spawn (or, in the case of the Queen Candypop Bud where you have at least one of the original three colors, cycle through that color) if that flag isn’t set for that particular color. Since we need to get more than just the one Yellow and the one Blue, we need to get Queen Candypop Buds to cycle through those colors. Thankfully, that flag can be set by simply triggering either the old or new “new Pikmin obtained” scene for that type. We can trigger the old “plucked Pikmin” scene by having a Swooping Snitchbug (or a Mamuta, for that matter) bury the glitched Pikmin, then plucking the resulting Pikmin Sprout, triggering the old cutscene function. This does lead to some unintended behavior. The new function sets another flag (that the Onion is unlocked) to allow for the corresponding Onion to operate normally, but the deprecated function doesn’t, as that flag would be triggered by a separate cutscene function from Pikmin 1 that happened when approaching the deactivated Onion, causing it to activate and sprout a single seed. Because that flag wasn’t set, the game thinks the Onion wasn’t unlocked, so it doesn’t ascend at sunset like it normally would, it is partially underground (like a deactivated one is), and it doesn’t sprout Pikmin even during a Pikmin extinction (there in order to not have them sprout Pikmin in Pikmin 1 before you unlocked that Onion). However, this is separate from the flags to see if the Onion’s tractor-beam-thing appears (and, thus, Pikmin can be stored in or retrieved from that Onion); whether the Onion will be at the landing site, in its hidden location, or not spawn at all at the start of each day; and the spawning and behavior of Candypop Buds, so those still work normally. Thus, doing the glitch would cause the Onion to not spawn Pikmin even during an extinction, be partially underground rather than on its “legs”, and not behave as it should at the start and end of each day (landing or flying off, respectively), but it will still appear at the landing site, still have a tractor beam, still function normally for withdrawing or storing Pikmin of the corresponding type, and still trigger the Pikmin Extinction cutscene at the start of each day should you have zero of that particular Pikmin color at all (even though no Pikmin of that color will sprout). Additionally, Candypop Buds of that color will still spawn and work normally, Queen Candypop Buds will still cycle through that color and function normally, the Pikmin counters will still function normally, and the Pikmin themselves will behave no differently. This is all just hypothetical, though.
About the firey bulblax, it is possible to kill it with purple pikmin. It is extremely tedious, but with precise throwing and immediately calling burning purple pikmin, they can still cause damage and stun with their ground pound.
You didn't have one to use at the time, but if you had an Ultra Bitter spray you could've used it on the Gatling Groink roaming in the Wistful Wild, as enemies killed while petrified turn into nectar (or more sprays if you're lucky). So there wouldn't have been a corpse to worry about reanimating and therefore not having to carry it back to an Onion
The fact that you went through the Submerged Castle, collected all treasures in one trip, and lost no Pikmin whatsoever, tells me that you are a person to be feared.
You can get to Bulblax Kingdom with the Napsack the same way you did with Gluttons Kitchen. Also, if you reset the cave and get lucky, you can get all the items in Snarget Hole 6 without needing Blue

I will quote you on that 😂 loved the video! Back when i was speedrunning pikmin 2, i did low pikmin for paying off the debt, and i was thinking about going 100% with low pikmin, but i never thought of deactivating the onions to get 101 instead of 103. Maybe I'll get back into speedrunning Pikmin, but that's not for awhile, I've had my fill of speedrunning for now. I payed off the debt using only emergance cave, 454 times. It took 25 hours and I did it in one sitting on December 21st-22nd 2020. I recored the whole thing and it's on my youtube channel and twitch channel. Loved the video! Keep it up!
I just watched this video and I just wanted to compliment you on the insanely good editing this video has! The amount of every pikmin and treasure for the area you're in ALWAYS being on screen is very helpful, while keeping them outside of the box so it doesn't obstruct the view of the gameplay is very smart! Even the little detail of the icon of a treasure having a little shine when mentioned really goes a long way!! Not only is the editing very good, but the flow of the video makes sure to cut down the boring parts so that the viewer keeps engaged in you making progress. Plus the little funny comments you make on some things are very entertaining :)
It's technically possible to pay off the debt with only 16 pikmin. There's a ton of tricky glitches you have to perform, but it's possible to get through the Emergence Cave on day 1 with nothing more than the 5 pikmin that Olimar starts with and the 11 pikmin that Louie is forced to grow in order to crush the bag. The Pikmin 2 wiki has a "5 day challenge run" that outlines what to do.
Wow, this reminded me of a 45 pikmin 99% completion challenge by Claris from 15 years ago (all treasures except doomsday apparatus in 8 days)... excellent job on the clears!
Pikmin 2 is my favorite of the series. But 3 is still amazing and is easily the best multiplayer puzzle game I've ever played. 4 is great but there are some thing they took out and changed that I actually am semi angry about
huge probs for the zero death rule, I remember as a kid always restarting my GameCube whenever I accidentally unlived some pikmin because I couldn’t continue onward knowing what I done lmao. This rule still stands as an adult
You can also use the Pikmin carry AI to get to the Bulblax Kingdom with two precise pikmin and can get the Healing Cask without yellows with a precise purple pikmin run throw same with the Air Braker by use two running throw at it with purple pikmin, their path will go to the island instead of the water.
I always knew about the carmex trick, didnt know other people knew about it! I remembered throwing a purple pikmin up there by accident and it blew my mind lol
14:55 Theory: The yellow pikmin extintion does happen and that is what helps you What do i mean? The yellow pikmin you steal is considered dead the moment it gets grabbed and pushed into the ground by the enemy. Causing a Pikmin extinction to be triggered at the same time as the introduction as you plugged a unique ID of Pikmin from the ground for the first time. However the extinction cant be completed since the yellow onion is currently not loaded since you are in a dungeon. They game however thinks an extinction has just been triggered and to prevent multiple extinctions from happening while the seed hasnt reached the ground yet the game sets a flagg till you pull that yellow pikmin out. However you did plug one by plugging the yellow pikmin off the ground meaning you trigger the extinction resolution without being in an area to be able to do so normally. I would be curious what would happen if the yellow pikmin gets grabbed again before exiting the cave and if it potentially avoids the glitch or not. If it does my theory is most likely correct and the misstiming of operations sequenzbreaks the functions what causes the yellow onion to think it is in permanent extinction mode with no way of getting out of it since the seed you are mend to pick has never been loaded in succesfully.
So theres a lot of treasures you missed before the Debt that you could get much earlier Healing Cask - A Purple Pikmin can just barely reach it if you do a running throw Stupendous Lens/Science Project - If you reset Sublevel 6 of Snagret Hole enough times, you'll get lucky and all the treasures will be reachable Bulblax Kingdom - You can napsack up the tree twice to reach it as early as Day 3 White Goodness - Same as before, resetting for the right layout removes the need for Yellows
I think bulbmin would've been fine since they don't need to be plucked and can't be taken out of caves anyway. would've just been a quality of life thing
It is possible to pay off the debt on the first cave via grinding the 3 coins each enemy gives. It'll take several days and you'll still need the 35 pikmen to get past the bag
Seen a video of someone doing it. Just saying that it would be possible to get lower pickmin but as the bag needs to be flattened and no more are required after it
@@nekotheliar6393 no, the pikmin count would be the same. Paying off the debt with just the first cave would have the same result. It would just take forever
Just for the record there’s a way to get the Air Brake and Healing Cask without Yellows or Blues. Maybe the White Goodness and Gherkin Gate too but idk about those ones for sure. Could’ve saved some time with the Citadel.
Yeah, my run was different because I immediately took the 1 yellow and blue before I paid off my debt. But that’s not the only difference. I was concerned about the “Sprouting Tally” that’s counted at the end of Phase 1, so I try to use the Candypop buds very conservatively. Throughout most of the run, I only had 16 Reds, 18 Purples, 1 White (Swapped from the 19th necessary Purple after the paper bag), and the 1 Yellow and Blue. I also did the napsack glitch in Awakening Woods. Finally post debt. I stuck with 37 Pikmin *until I collected all treasures* that isn’t the Doomsday Apparatus. That was when I did the most swapping. I did the Submerge Castle second to last before Dream Den because I distinctly remember fighting the Titan with just Blues and the one White with one Purple off to the side. Once I got everything, I went to the same cave you went to; however, I used both the Queen Candypop Buds along with the Violets. I’m glad you aim towards just 35 pre-debt, but I’m never going below 37! 35 looks like an absolute repetitive pain while 37 is just a waiting game. To each his own.
You were tasked with protecting three endangered species (red, yellow, and blue pikmin) as well as re-establishing two extinct species (purple and white pikmin). At the end, three of those species (yellow, blue, and white pikmin) ended up extinct, one species was left with only a single individual (red pikmin), and the fifth was basically intact (purple pikmin). Not only did you ravage the fauna in the citadel of spiders, you caused a decrease in biodiversity. Olimar may not be a capitalist, but he's also _definitely_ not an environmentalist. /s
I'm at 7 minutes in, and I'm going to make a prediction. The minimum number of pikmin for getting every treasure is 100. Candypop buds make things simpler, but that dumbell treasure absolutely requires 100 purples to collect, no ifs ands or buts. Edit: ah shoot, forgor about the pikmin extinction. New guess: 101 or 102, depending on the Blue Onion.
Right now I'm in a 103 pikmin run, I came up with the idea that you only need 103 pikmin to get all treasures by myself without searching for it... and then I see that there is this glitch where you can complete the game with only 101 pikmin, I feel dumb. But hey, at least I can say that I'm doing a glitchless run.
I wouldn't say its dumb to not know about an obscure glitch, after all it isn't normal to want to trigger a pikmin extinction and not be able to recover from it.
@@jasonreed7522 Yeah it just felt bad that I thought I'm doing this with the least amount of Pikmin possible, but it's not horrible. Like I said, it was glitchless at least.

UA-cam giving me this video after someone beating Pikmin 2 in 19 days with 5 Pikmin and just enough Pikmin to pick up the loot once he gets it to camp without pikmin is wild
I know in speedruns of Pikmin 1, there is physics/movement glitch to throw any Pikmin the height of a Yellow Pikmin. I cannot remember if this was patched in Pikmin 2, or the New Play Control rereleases. If not, then you could have gotten the at least 1 treasure without yellows and save maybe 1 trip through the Citadel of Spiders. Additionally, you could avoid running into Bulbmin all together by entering the Submerged Castle with 100 blue Pikmin, but that would require converting ALL of your Pikmin to blue and then into purple.
With the pikmin being an invasive species, and you leaving behind the purple pikmin at the end of the game with no onion of their own, the natural ecosystem likely restored itself too. Two birds with one stone!
Seems like ypu need a low % speedrun category for these games. Would be entertaining and i am sure talking with smallant can also get it featured in the low% channel as well if the category actually gets traction in people competing for low% strats. Oh pikmin how painful the timegates are...
So... very technically... you can clear the debt on day 2, by merely exiting the cave without recovering the atlas, and returning over and over, collecting the bodies of fallen enemies
i think the yellow pikmin onion glitch happens bc after a yellow pikmin is done with their task, they join your party if you are close. the cutscene must activate when you whistle, but not through the mentioned method
Pikmin 3 is coming, after many many years. (Well, 4, but don't really think 3 was all that impressive mentally,. Even if it was sorta fun at times, 3 characters is overkill when most puzzles were made with two in mind, if that.)
I think that time is the standard one used in marketing any clock because it has aesthetically pleasing clock hand placements. (Which makes it funny they use the exact same time for digital clocks)
i always used to try and grow as many Pikmin as possible, and play the game at my own pace. for example, i always used to try and get 100 Pikmin before the first cave on day 2, which involved a lot of trips to the cave, exiting then farming the flowers that respawn etc.... yes there are people who love to play challenges of pikmin games, and speedruns/ world records, but thats just not me.
So, as a note: I double checked this; Bulbmin are not added to your total Pikmin count for the day unless you throw them into Candypop Buds to sprout other types of Pikmin. Any that perish *are* added to the death total, but leaving them behind in a cave doesn't count as deaths.

I payed off the debt using only emergance cave, 454 times. It took 25 hours and I did it in one sitting on December 21st-22nd 2020. I recored the whole thing and it's on my youtube channel and twitch channel. Loved the video! Keep it up!
22:12 You’re telling me Nintendo actually did that?!
4 is great but there are some thing they took out and changed that I actually am semi angry about
Same
huge probs for the zero death rule, I remember as a kid always restarting my GameCube whenever I accidentally unlived some pikmin because I couldn’t continue onward knowing what I done lmao.
Idk how many pikmin he needs to clesr the debt. But god damn it I know you need 100 purples to collect every treasure
I haven’t watched a Pikmin walkthrough since chuggaconroys old one so thanks for this!
I love the names for the treasures in this game. They're just great

Theory:
The yellow pikmin extintion does happen and that is what helps you
What do i mean?
So theres a lot of treasures you missed before the Debt that you could get much earlier
Healing Cask - A Purple Pikmin can just barely reach it if you do a running throw
Stupendous Lens/Science Project - If you reset Sublevel 6 of Snagret Hole enough times, you'll get lucky and all the treasures will be reachable
Bulblax Kingdom - You can napsack up the tree twice to reach it as early as Day 3
White Goodness - Same as before, resetting for the right layout removes the need for Yellows
So glad I found this channel. Really like your style, guy. Keep up the good work.
I think bulbmin would've been fine since they don't need to be plucked and can't be taken out of caves anyway. would've just been a quality of life thing
i love how you still mention cheeses and strategies even if they werent optimal/used in the run
It is possible to pay off the debt on the first cave via grinding the 3 coins each enemy gives. It'll take several days and you'll still need the 35 pikmen to get past the bag
yes, you could, technically
Seen a video of someone doing it. Just saying that it would be possible to get lower pickmin but as the bag needs to be flattened and no more are required after it
@@nekotheliar6393 no, the pikmin count would be the same.
Paying off the debt with just the first cave would have the same result. It would just take forever
I love the names of the treasures. They are super adorable, since we know what they are, but the characters don't.
TAKE MY ENGAGEMENT AND RUN MY BEAUTIFUL FRIENS
Just for the record there’s a way to get the Air Brake and Healing Cask without Yellows or Blues. Maybe the White Goodness and Gherkin Gate too but idk about those ones for sure. Could’ve saved some time with the Citadel.
god dang, this game is ALOT tougher and MUCH bigger than i remember. even while just completing it casually
As someone who doesn't play pikmin I'm horrified by how many treasures are food. That stuff must be RANCID!!!!!
Should have been called "Pikminimum Percent"
13:09 you must have made chugga proud with that much wollywog murder.
That one Steve shall be remembered for generations to come
12:20 for a second you can see he restarted the game because one of his Pikmin got killed
Never played any of the Pikmin games, but I'm loving all the names of the Treasures. I don't know if they should be making me laugh as much, but they're pretty clever! o7
Another great video, let's hope the algorithm picks this one up too.
Awesome video!! Loved it!! Can’t wait for Pikmin 3 now! 🎉👍😁
Damn, that dumbell in the Wistful Wilds is giving me a rough idea of the total amount of pikmin
Bro that spider sacrificed his life so you can beat the submerged castle absolute GIGA CHAD
Incredible video! Super high quality!
Also, a wollywog kill count Chugga would be proud of.
With the pikmin being an invasive species, and you leaving behind the purple pikmin at the end of the game with no onion of their own, the natural ecosystem likely restored itself too. Two birds with one stone!
you can kill the Emperor almost instantly by tossing purples where hes in the ground.
I wonder how how hard pikimin 3 must be, seeing how the video doesn’t exist after a year.
I like the idea that this is canon on how oilmar paid off the debt and got all the treasures
Sounds like Olimar is focusing a whole lot on the Pikmin that die, and not very much on the Pikmin that he is helping to live.
Seems like ypu need a low % speedrun category for these games. Would be entertaining and i am sure talking with smallant can also get it featured in the low% channel as well if the category actually gets traction in people competing for low% strats. Oh pikmin how painful the timegates are...
I think bulbmin are fine. It's kinda like renting out Pikmin, in a sense.
I once grew over 26,000 pikmin, sometimes I wonder who grew the most pikmin?
If my numbers are too much or too little
Pathetic. One time I had 300 reds.
@@josephbrandenburg4373 300k?
@@redpikmin017 just three hundred...
Now it’s time to wait for pikmin three
Pov
thank you for your service
The unlisted video is now private, sadly. Did you or anyone else back it up?
Now this is the kind of theory I love to see :]
Cool run! You could have done bulblax kingdom early with some 5 man knapsack shenanigans, but still very cool!
So... very technically... you can clear the debt on day 2, by merely exiting the cave without recovering the atlas, and returning over and over, collecting the bodies of fallen enemies
I would have loved to see your strats of how to deal with every enemy deathless
recently tried pikmin 1 again. i forgot how easy it is to accidentally blow up your pikmin in that game compared to pikmin 2
0:21 equally? Far exceedingly!
Fiery bulblaxs are actually killable with purples as they do impact damage
I actually played this game so much, I made a goal to beat it without losing any Pikmin!
i think the yellow pikmin onion glitch happens bc after a yellow pikmin is done with their task, they join your party if you are close. the cutscene must activate when you whistle, but not through the mentioned method
With the new 5-day strats it should be able to lower the 35 required pikmin significantly

I wonder how much it hurt saying “sublevel” that many times
Pikmin 3 is coming, after many many years. (Well, 4, but don't really think 3 was all that impressive mentally,. Even if it was sorta fun at times, 3 characters is overkill when most puzzles were made with two in mind, if that.)
just say 4 bro
Good luck with Pikmin 3!
So glad, you gotta around to doing this! I wish I noticed earlier!
I sympathises with your deathless torture. it's indescribably annoying to not lose any pikmin
Dude found the one challenge where candypop buds aren't a waste of Nintendo employees' time
you can crush the fiery bulblaxes faces with purple pikmin. just make sure to call the burning pikmin.
The Pikmin Nuzlocke TM
The temporal mécanism looks like hes stuck at the same time than the watch in the pikmin 4 teaser !
Something I was looking forward to see!
Alternatively just repeat Emergence cave just under 500 times killing all the monsters every time. (Worth 22 pokos per repeat
Olimar: I can't let any innocent creatures die for greedy capitalism!
Also Olimar: So I sold over a thousand corpses...
So, as a note: I double checked this; Bulbmin are not added to your total Pikmin count for the day unless you throw them into Candypop Buds to sprout other types of Pikmin. Any that perish *are* added to the death total, but leaving them behind in a cave doesn't count as deaths.
Before even watching this I immediately thought
"You'd need at least 100"
So much for strength in numbers
You could've probably just reset Sublevel 6 of the Snagret Hole until you could find one without requiring Blue Pikmin...
considered myself an expert, but even i wouldn't have attempted to do a poison geyser dirty like that without a proper pikmin... erm bulbmin to do it.
