I worked the front desk of the small boutique hotel where Julia stayed when they were filming this movie. She's awesome. One of the nicest girls you could ever meet.
I’m here because someone compared Olympic breakdance to this and I never saw this movie. Wow she’s stiff! I remember Baryshnikov talking about learning to do Twyla Tharp’s jazz moves and how alien it was for him to deliberately throw himself off balance and use his torso. She doesn’t move her torso at all except when she’s sitting in a chair! It’s like she has a rod through it!
Shoutout to my dad, who agreed to take me to this movie at the local theatre when I was 12 years old. I'm 35 now and still hoping this expertly crafted dance routine will help me get into Julliard and win over the love of my life someday.
@@ACAB.forcutie Great observation! Wikipedia says that Save the Last Dance was released on January 9th, 2001. I was born in late January of 1989, so this would mean I was technically 11 years old on the date the film premiered. However, it's likely my dad would not have taken me on opening weekend because it would have been too crowded. We may have gone on the day of my birthday, or we may have gone the weekend after. I can't remember. But I was either 11 or 12 at the time. But memories can be very weird so it's entirely possible that the other commenter wasn't intentionally lying. Maybe they felt 9 years old? 😅
I wondered the same thing. But for some reason, I thought this came out in 2000. Not sure why. I don't think I saw it until it was on VHS or DVD. I worked at Blockbuster in late 2001.
This is true !!! I’m 12 grade I was told to audition for Juliard!!!! Unfortunately I didn’t believe in my talents ( took ballet, contemporary, ballet and gymnastics ) I also can sing !!! So I didn’t do the auditions. Now looking back I regret it
You know its not fair to compare this time to now, things really were different then and each decade a different style, its a movie, y'all forget that as well, I loved watching Julia Stiles in this, shes captivating and charming to watch, the movie overall is fun and so are the dance scenes, even in 2024!
I was 11 when this came out. I remember seeing it in theatres with my older sister thinking this dance was cringe 😂 but not the other dances was just something about this one
I remember this movie when 9 years old and now I'm 34 years old and im not even going to lie she went though hell and still appreciate the way she came out on top
I used to watch this and think , he was smiling because of his teaching, I now have learned she gave more as she knew she had support, foundation, someone wants the best for her, and that's why he was smiling. Everyone needs support without a transaction. Perspective is interesting. Amazing x
Man ist fast zu Tränen gerührt, der starke Part zu einem, der einen gut zuredet, Mut gibt, der zur rechten Zeit da ist, und ihr die Kraft zum weitermachen gibt, echt Wow❤❤❤❤❤
I was 15 when this came out and already a semi professional dancer myself so absolutely loved the movie. The theme of pushing towards your dream, even when the going gets tough is so true and inspiring.
2024 This is the movie that started a whole wave of contemporary mixed dances. Theres such a brilliance in multutasking and combining seVral things at a time, instruments, musuc, danz😉🔥
@@lornaparsons9299 "[Director] Thomas Carter told me that he suggested I screen-test for the movie because he had seen a scene in 10 Things I Hate About You where I'm dancing on the table," Stiles told E! News in 2021.
When I was an early teen those dance movies were my life, especially this one and step up. I was absolutely obsessed. Can't remember most of them now that I'm in my 30s but I do remember just having a damn great time watching them
2001. Finished high school, started college, and now owner of a company in IT. I watched this film on vhs, now watching on the gaming pc that I built with my bare hands.
Loved this movie! Julia's dance bit was fantastic. Only wish she would have shown a little more facial expression during her final dance. All in all a 10
Not with the TikTok dances everyone doing these days and saying the dance sequence wasn’t that good she incorporated some very popular dance moves in this that set this off still a favorite till this day.
as someone who has been training mainly in ballet for 10 years I can definitely tell there was a stunt double you just can’t fake that certain technique when you don’t have it…
Losing her mom at the beginning was hard now I lost mine I can relate to the terrible feeling the lesson is you have to gather your strength and go on.

This is what that Olympic breakdancing competition looked like lol 😂
That's EXACTLY what I said!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Watching this scene as an adult is so hard lol
HAHAHA YEP! Same exact thought 😂
No Julia did better! But I ain't gonna lie the dance hit different when you a kid 😂

Have you ever watched the movie Flashdance? It’s a classic, I highly recommend it. Have fun at Juliard.
Someone's lying cuz someone else in this comment section said they were 9 when they saw it and they're 34 now 😂

Juliard is what every artist inspires themselves to be! It’s not easy to get in either they only take a few. Love this movie!
I’m a dancer and know people who’ve gotten init’s like a less than 7 percent acceptance rate now! Best school in the world
The year my friend got in they only took three freshmen in his instrument

It was corny back then too, trust me. Signed, a gen X'r who is from this time
She is a great actress you’re absolutely right. But I saw this movie when it first came out and I hated the dancing. It was just bad

Technically 2001.

I know the choreography is terrible, but I still love this dance and song its just fun.
Totally agree. By this point in the movie, you’re pretty invested in the characters and the emotional impact works.
Choreography is terrible what are you watching did you have your eyes closed unless you are a professional dancer say nothing fact
Song name?

Sara has got some impressive moves. Derek certainly taught her some moves that have added real flair to her ballet.
memories of Flashdance! Beautifully executed Julia.
Flashdance without the workplace sexual harassment
She got this role, in part, due to her little dance scene in 10 Things I Hate About You.
I doubt it

I was 14 when this came out and at this scene I jumped up in the crowded theatre and yelled “BOOOOOM”
Did everybody run?
Julia, you’re in, and bring that man to class with you every day.
Love this movie and Julia stiles such a underated actress and movie beyond 2024 it's timeless
She sure can move - very smooth.

Maybe I have emotional issue but this made me cry
Especially when he said she’s In

Lol, the choreographer has used that move in several other movies and music videos. Watch Backstreet Boys music video As Long As You Love Me
That was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. Very Britney / Janet like
I love mix of contemporary and classic or traditional. It is my thing in music so I also love her dancing
