We had so much fun performing our new song "Here to Forever"! Thanks for having us Colbert, always a great time to return to #LSSC. Listen to the track out everywhere now, plus pre-order our new album 'Asphalt Meadows' out 9/16 and get tickets to catch us on our Fall tour: deathcabforcutie.com
Just got my ticket for the 10/8 show in Charleston, SC. I am coming from central Florida. A 7hr 15min drive well worth to see this great band. Have a great and safe tour guys. See ya in SC.
That was Letterman's greatest strength ,, all the great bands..for decades. From classics to breaking bands. When playing music mattered more. Take care ,stay human.
Wow, that's awesome. I heard them on the radio many years ago and was hooked immediately. Check out their back catalogue. You will not be disappointed! (Side note: check out Mother Mother as well, if you feel like it. O My Heart is a great track. Happy listening, friend!)
You're gonna have a good time going into the death cab rabbit hole. I've been listening to them for like 5 years now. My favorite song from them might be you are a tourist but they've been putting out bangers ever since the early 2000s
Their last couple albums were good but didn't hit me much on an emotional level. This song however is amazing, their most affecting in years. Brought me to tears, that first verse is something else.
@@IlluminatingNight really? That's funny. Thanks for today is highly regarded as one of their more plain boring albums 😂 at least Kintsugi had some spice to it
Hearing this immediately after listening to Rep. Raskin relate Tommy Raskin's craving for "more democracy, not less", and knowing he was also a young man who lost his battle with illness, touched me deeply. To Mr. Raskin, You are for me one of the reasons I haven't given up ALL hope in the avoidance of a theocratic oligarchy.
I introduced my wife to Death Cab for Cutie in the car. When she saw the name of the band come up on the screen she was horrified, convinced I was about to play some hideous metal band. She loved them, of course.
Man this is the best band on the planet atm. Ben’s incredible singing is backed up with some of the best guitar I have heard. Northern Lights was my favourite song but this new one up there with their best work. Keep up the great songs. It’s such a pleasure listening to your songs. ❤️
Dang, I just started listening to their music and I thought the lead singer was a round-headed nerdy lil dude with glasses. Now he's sporting cool youth pastor. Barely recognized him.
This bodes well. I look forward to hearing the album. For those unfamiliar with the band name's origin: "According to the band’s frontman, Gibbard took the band name from the song of the same name, 'Death Cab for Cutie,' which was written by Neil Innes and Vivian Stanshall. That song was recorded by their group the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. The song appears on Bonzo’s 1967 debut album, Gorilla, and was performed in the 1967 movie, Magical Mystery Tour. But even before that, the title of the song came originally from a story in an old pulp fiction crime magazine that Innes found in a street market some six decades ago." - Jacob Uitti.
Only just noticed that Ben Gibbard is starting to look a lot like Drive Shaft lead singer Liam Pace. This is my new head canon now…Liam founded Death Cab after Charlies death inspired him to write songs again.
I saw them perform in Auckland at the Civic and it was the best concert I've ever been to! The sound and light show was incredible and I wasn't even a fan then! I just got a ticket on a whim.
when i listen to songs of joy and energy i feel happier than hearing lyrics about dead people, depression, and a gun to my back *ok i listen to plenty of moody sad songs, but they are articulated without such obv words. grats on 25 yrs. Still not my thing
As people get richer they also magically become better looking lol Still love ya Ben, Transatlanticism is still one of the greatest albums ever produced
What is with this revival of Gen X bands? I am in no way knocking it. I love it. But I wonder what is going on? It's very much an alternative rock/post punk revival.
This is much less DCFC reviving themselves and moreso continuing to make music. They've released new records consistently every 2-5 years ish since the late 90s
Melhor do disco e poderia ser uma música muito maior, no refrão todos os músicos deveriam cantar alto e forte mas a banda insiste em ser pequena... 🙄🇧🇷
Ben is the lead singer and dave is the backup singer. Not everyone in the band can sing as well as they do. That’s why they have people to sing, people to play the drums, people to play bass and such.
All the guitars are live, the fake bit you're hearing is that sample being fired in the outro, that's coming out of a Macbook somewhere, probably also piping the click to the drummer.
This song is how I feel about listening to them for the last 15 years. It’s just too much sometimes, in a good day bad way. Still my favorite band, it’s just harder and harder to listen…

Please come somewhere in Florida. I'm going to try and catch you all in Georgia or South Carolina.

After so many noise bands on the late-nite shows, what an aural relief to again hear R&R with a melody and harmony and a reasonable SPL.
Great FN track and performance!
You made me severely miss the 90's, thanks! :)
Can’t wait to see you guys on October 21st at the Greek in Los Angeles.
Ben Gibbard played live from his home for months after pandemic lockdown. Helped me get thru the night.👍💕
It's the only thing I miss of the Pandemic was Ben's at home shows. They truly were something.
Same. It was something I greatly looked forward to every Thursday.
Same💞💞
Facts
They give me chills every single time. Thank you for having them on the show. ❤❤
Wow, I used to listen to them when I was in high school, and this new track is wonderful. So nice to see them still making awesome music!
Lol they've never stopped
Ben Gibbard is a songwriting genius.
So underrated
"as the searchers keep scrolling" ( ˘ ³˘)👌
A truly great storyteller 🍻
Whoever sets up the music gigs for Colbert's show has some good taste.
That's fo sure ! The other shows are not as good.
That was Letterman's greatest strength ,, all the great bands..for decades. From classics to breaking bands. When playing music mattered more. Take care ,stay human.
Colbert has amazing musical taste. He has introduced me to so many bands I never would have heard otherwise.
@@peterschancel7223 I am a year late to this but i just wanted to tell you i love that sign off. Hope you are doing well.
Sounds like a Cure song. Can totally hear Robert Smith singing this.
And U2. Having been a discjockey in the 70s I weep for the music of today. Johnny Rotten was a visionary with "No Future"😢😭
Reminds me of Joy Division/New Order.
My first reaction!
The lyrics are pretty good, I never know about them until this video. I think I became a fan!
Thanks, Stephen for introducing them to me.
They have been around since I was in middle school, you got a lot to catch up on enjoy
Wow, that's awesome. I heard them on the radio many years ago and was hooked immediately. Check out their back catalogue. You will not be disappointed! (Side note: check out Mother Mother as well, if you feel like it. O My Heart is a great track. Happy listening, friend!)
@@Mod2ForPrez It's fun to know that someone is going to immerse themselves in a new sound, isn't it? I'm happy for them.
Ben Gibbard is also one half of Postal Service. All of his stuff is good and super catchy.
You're gonna have a good time going into the death cab rabbit hole. I've been listening to them for like 5 years now. My favorite song from them might be you are a tourist but they've been putting out bangers ever since the early 2000s

Kintsugi was not good at all, but Thank You For Today was actually great and had a lot of emotion. I'm excited for this new album!
@@IlluminatingNight Kintsugi still has some good songs though. Hold No Guns is one of my favorite death cab songs
Same for me!
@@IlluminatingNight really? That's funny. Thanks for today is highly regarded as one of their more plain boring albums 😂 at least Kintsugi had some spice to it
Kintsugi was great. No Room In Frame was peak Death Cab IMO. New album is definitely more complex than the last for sure!
This is a great band! Amazing songwriting. Looking forward to hearing the rest of the new album out in September!
Yeah, one more good reason to wait for autumn.
That's why we need to get everyone out and involved in voting.
May Tommy RIP
Wasn’t sure who else felt this way about Mr Raskin. We need him for president. That would make me proud to be American again.
Isn't it magical when one of your favorite bands matures as you mature too ?? 😘 💙 DCFC !! & Steven Colbert !! 🖖
Been listening to Death Cab since I was a little kid sneaking into my sister's room to borrow her Walkman. Happy to know they're still rockin' it!
I found them from sneaking my sisters Walkman too! Lol
Enjoying the Peter Hook like bass part!
Favorite band of all time! Their new song is awesome!
For those saying they haven’t heard Death Cab in forever, check out 2015 Kintsugi and 2018 Thank you for Today. They’re pretty good.
Blue EP is their best stuff this decade imo
Both fantastic albums 🍻
Loving them!!!They are talented!!!!! Wow!!!!!!!
Death cab is and has been amazing for a long time. Can't wait for the new album

Mr. Bass Player I forgot your name but thank you for the melodies.
Man this is the best band on the planet atm. Ben’s incredible singing is backed up with some of the best guitar I have heard. Northern Lights was my favourite song but this new one up there with their best work.
Keep up the great songs. It’s such a pleasure listening to your songs. ❤️
It's funny how music can save your life. I know these guys did that for me.
This has some very strong New Order vibes. I think it's the bassline.
definitely age of consent
Imagine that; there's still guitar bands making new music that doesn't sound like every other horrid song out there. Love it.
Yeah there is a lot of those still out there you just don’t pay attention
Been waiting for this!!!
I hope the new album lives up to this single. This feels like it’s getting back to DCFC’s late 2000s sound, which I really loved
Turns out, it definitely does
I often feel a Gord Downie vibe when I hear them sing. Am I the only one? It's a smoother flow, but the same passion is there.
Crazy how hard this band still rocks and they’ve been doing it since I was in elementary lol Ben is just so talented
They got their start in my home town.
I just saw them in Grand Rapids… AWESOME show! ❤️
That's great. I'm trying to catch them in Atlanta or South Carolina. FYI I'm in central Florida. I'm sure the show was great. peace

That’s awesome! Was going to see them in Napa last year but they canceled because of Covid. Still on my bucket list tho
Love Their Music Death Cab For Cutie 💜 ❤ 💙 💚 🧡
FAVORITE band ever! 💕
I am sooooo looking forward to seeing them here in Minnesota 🥰
Bringing some sense to the US........Brilliant.
Fantastic, love the band
Oh so good!
There are some songs you play on repeat all day long, this is one of them
Love this sound, so excited for the other new material coming out soon. Hope to see you guys live in Europe again!

DCFC sounding like New Order and I'm here for it. Cool song.
Heard some Robert Smith guitar in there also
Only just noticed that Ben Gibbard is starting to look a lot like Drive Shaft lead singer Liam Pace.

They sound just like my favorite group, NO...may they rest in peace 😥
Hello thanks again for sharing 🙏🙏🙏
Woohoo! Can't wait for the new album :)
They still have it
My wife and I heard this wonderful song on the way home from church!!!
Love this song
This band is now made up of the five different types of dad, and I'm living for it.
damn haven't heard from this band since like the 90s.
AH! THAT WAS SO GOOD!!! I LOVED IT!!! SERIOUSLY, GOOD JOB, GUYS!!!!

Please come play in Florida one day. Jacksonville, St.Augustine, Orlando, Tampa or Ft. Lauderdale. We will come wherever you decide to play.
Still my favorite band to roadtrip to
Just a delicious sound all around 👍
Thank you Benjamin
I’ll Follow You Into The Dark also slaps

Seeing them live at The Paramount Theater in Seattle was exhilarating.
Making me feel since I was 13 and all the way to now at 28.
Thank you Benjamin.
Ultimate Dad's band still jogging along...
Lovely
They lost me after Transatlanticism. This is good. Welcome back, boys.

Man I’m getting old
As people get richer they also magically become better looking lol Still love ya Ben, Transatlanticism is still one of the greatest albums ever produced
Missing that northwest sound, thank you.
Holy crap - Gibbard got a haircut and found a brush. Maybe an ironic new look? 😆
The guitar in the chorus reminds me of car by porches

I’m not sure, but Death Cab has been releasing new stuff pretty consistently every 3-4 years.
Yeah bands like Death Cab and Jimmy Eat World never really stopped putting out great music and touring.
This is much less DCFC reviving themselves and moreso continuing to make music. They've released new records consistently every 2-5 years ish since the late 90s
I feel like death cab for cutie will continue to be a band for as long as they are alive. I don’t know but somehow I just know.
Definitely reminds me of a NEW ORDER tune from the 1980’s.
New Order-Technique-Love Less-1989.

just a small fun fact that this segment was originally filmed july 22 👀👀👀
❤️
it’s good. nothing comes close to the old days. seems to be the case for every band…
All the guitars look fake. Sampling pedals?
All the guitars are live, the fake bit you're hearing is that sample being fired in the outro, that's coming out of a Macbook somewhere, probably also piping the click to the drummer.
👏👏👏👌🎸🎹👋
Is that Louis C.K. on bass??????????
Came from browser
Someones been listening to New Order
Stephen Colbert bought album death cab for cutie awesomeness job music
Why does Ben not look like Ben...?
We’re not used to seeing that much forehead from him.
Damn, I thought they died in that cab 10 years ago
I had to watch an ad about animal abuse and lab/shelter animals before I could watch this. Ironic .
Transatlanticism forever
Hate Colbert with a passion. But love Death Cab
That's Ben?
This song is how I feel about listening to them for the last 15 years. It’s just too much sometimes, in a good day bad way. Still my favorite band, it’s just harder and harder to listen…
They are so underrated m8. I hope this album gets them more recognition. Cheers.
