  • Produced in 1994 this video starts with a visit to the fabulous Swiss Steam Park where a gathering is taking place on the mixed 7.25/5" gauge tracks. Then its off to Weston Park for the opening of the xtension, with lots of visiting locomotives. Over the years the RH&DR has played host to many visiting locomotives. In 1992 it was the turn of Red Dragon and here we accompany the loco on a trip to Hythe one evening. Finally deep in the woods of darkest West Sussex we witness one of the last-ever runs on a very private 7.25" gauge line - complete with a fearsome 45ft long viaduct. I apologise for a bit of 'motor-boating' on the soundtrack from time to time, but this was the only copy I had of the tape.

incredible to see this Derek, and compare with how the swiss park is today, I've run there now a few times. There are even some familiar faces, can you believe it

Anyone notice how laid back life was? No bunch of stool tones being smashed forced into people's lives and faces.

I'll definitely have to go to the Swiss Steam Park sometime in the future... It looks incredible.

Nice video. The first segment on La Bouveret with all those kids messing around, leaning over, dragging feet in the ballast and so on with no guard on the back of the train is the stuff of nightmares!

Derek, do you have any footage of the late 50s & 60s seven and a half inch gauge at Bridlington UK, (south side)? It ran around the back of the boating lake on the south side of the Spa. A Miniature Railway DVD exists which shows only a brief clip of it when Roger Butterworth ran it as a hobby. It seems all postcards which featured it are now long gone as is the Railway itself. No-one, not even the Council, can offer any information about it. It has disappeared together with all historical reference, official or otherwise.

If anyone wants to see Sir Arthur Heywood who seen at Weston Park Railway double heading with Katie, that loco in now in the same livery as Ravenglass's Northern Rock and based at the Eastleigh Lakeside Railway in Hampshire.
