Honestly, the pixies are really scary - I wonder just how many people have died due to overzealous tricks/games? With that confusing mist also, they could probably trap anyone they wanted to keep. The twins were lucky it just involved the pixies wanting them to crossdress lol
This is because according to the Scottish and Irish folk lore and mythology the Fae (all encompassing term which I love that Square Enix paid attention to that) are known to be very mischievous in a way that's beautiful, enchanting, alluring, and yet in one of the darkest and twisted ways. There is a tale that tells of beautiful Elven Fae women leading young men astray to their lands where they will live the happiest of lives in eternal youth, soon forgetting their past lives, and then becoming one of their own to which if they were to leave they'd rapidly age before dying.

Faeries in general are quite pleasant feeling until you actually get in the way of what they want, which is generally mischief. And honestly, their queen is a force of casualty and nature and harmony at the same time.It think it's actually pretty dangerous if you ask me.
"You're my new toy, falalalala!" with playful and murder intents. I like to think about a twisted little girl playing cat and mouse in a manor with you.
That's the power of psychology my friend. You are aware this theme is playing while the boss is out to kill you, so you associate a subconsciously-created threat to the theme. Imagine this theme playing during a Mary Poppins movie, or a comedy scene - if done right, you will see a complete lack of this threatening sub-aura. No doubt this effect was intended by the composer. Amazing, isn't it?
This song really conveys that Titania wants to play with you, forever... And you know what makes this song feel like it's a loop that plays on forever? A ternary rythm or whatever it's called (when the song rythm is 1, 2, 3. instead of 1, 2, 3, 4). Soken is at it again, boiz!
Something else I remarked, she's got some musical references in her attacks! Bright Sabbath (Black Sabbath), Twist and Sprout when she does the root attack (Twist and Shout, The Beatles) It might be far fetched, but I feel like those were deliberate and since I like this trial so much, I felt like sharing that. Though I'm sure I'm not the first one to point that out anyways. c:
The Dancing Plague is actually a thing: In 1518 , around 40 people died in Strasbourg due to nonstop dancing. Why they were dancing in the first place is not yet known for sure.... Creeps me out very much, but it does tie in with the fairies way of killing people by forcing them to dance without end.

There's deeper themes with dancing and fae. It's fairly popular to see works from ye olde days of fairies and the like whisking away beautiful young ladies and making them dance endlessly- provided they don't escape.

I find titania ost savage as hell. Shes basically saying how she will enjoy beating the shit out of you while encouraging you to get up and keep going. Even if you get tired shes like "its cool rest and we will begin again." Holy hell shes so confident she will always win she literally discribes two of her actual attacks in the song if you listen.
Never played FFXIV, but I’ve been watching videos of it because of Il Mheg. Maybe I’m fascinated with anything that involve the fey, but they did a really good job with them in Shadowbringers. They showcased their penchant for mischief, cruelty, and whimsy. This song is also really catchy and I can’t get it out of my head since I first heard it. This is exactly what the fair folk would have done to us mortals. Everything is so alluring and lustrous, which serves as a facade for the danger that is the nature of the fey.
Exploring the zone, you find these oddly shaped decorative bushes, some of them fleeing in the direction opposite from the village or tucked away in some obscure locations. The fae in this game refer to them as their "children", but you find out very quickly how they were made. Turns out the fae fucked up *a lot* of people.
ELENDS And there was that one cutscene at the conclusion of the story where they played with an army in fae-like fashion, a dazzling spectacle of lights and terror. Now since I haven’t played the game I’ve only read from other people (so correct me if I’m wrong) that some of the leafmen were once mortals of the original inhabitants of Il Mheg before the sin eaters went and messed everything up. Some of the mortals were turned by the fae to stop their transformation into sin eaters as the fey regarded some of the mortals with affection, hence referring to them as their children. Of course some of the leafmen are a result of the fae preying on unsuspecting mortals. And yes, the fae are in the business of meddling with mortals for that is their nature. Like Feo Ul said, the fae live in the present and never contemplate the future nor the consequence of their actions.

@@scrwd4568 Not entirely true, if you've done their beast tribe quests, they explain one of the large trees was once human. It was a woman who they actually respected, she was mortally wounded and on the verge of death, slowly bleeding out (This part is only hinted at, as Uin Nee says she was covered in blood when they found her), so they turned her into that large, flowery tree out of both mercy and respect.

One of the main reasons I'm still here. I have a big thing for music in MMOs. Soken's FFXIV and Chance Thomas' LotRO are the reasons these 2 MMOs are my favorites.
It is kinda cool how they go from techno, to metal, to jazz(?), to rap(?), and they all are just for Alexander's storyline. And despite the different genres, they all still manage to work well together and fit the fights well.
The song is lovely, and Titania seems like an adorable boss. Although, when I hear this song, all I can think is, “Why does Tinker Bell want to murder me in my sleep?”
This song has burrowed into my brain harder than Cruise Chaser's theme, I found myself rocking my head side to side in the fight unconsciously. Really good composition to achieve that effect.
Imo Ahm Araeng set the tone for life in the first. Meanwhile Titania invading people's minds was more akin to showing that they couldn't just put the problem in a box to get rid of it.
all the midsummer nights dreams references in this fight feel so fitting, ie the adds being named puck, peaseblossom, etc, the track name being a line from the play itself
As well as the skill name (Midsummer Night's Dream) that changes the arena from castle to forest. There's also Love-in-Idleness when she grows her lovelies (bigger is better). Unsure if 'Being Mortal' means anything (her ultimate).
I think later on in EX they will have no marker for phantom rune. She has 2 types, and she says this when casting the phantom rune. She'll basically taunt us to guess which version she will be casting. But they have different cast animations, so should be easy enough...
I’m late to this convo but she only mixes it up about 3 times in the fight just stay a safe distance where your quick enough to get in but also quick enough to move out of of aoes or learn her wing movements
Wiped 6 time on Titania. One time on my end caused I was humming the whole time and I just lost focus and let the whole raid get hit by the tank buster. Not my finest moment haha.
One of my favorite moments as a parent thus far was my 4 year old daughter watching and "helping me" in this trial and loving the music then me subsequently putting this theme on and dancing "gracefully" to it together

This song is designed to slowly drive you into madness the longer you stay in the trial. Stay to long and you find yourself dance emotiong for the rest of your life in the trial
What I love most about this song is how if someone I know asks me about FFXIV, I can link this to them and tell them that this is raid boss music. It speaks for itself.

her story was tragic. ; ; happy we are not killing primals, but tainted beings. And happy titania was more of a mercy killing. Also happy fae speak is based on old irish gaelic.
Well she still might be a Primal. I mean there is always a new Titania empowered by ancient relics. It IS a sort of belief. It is like a mix of Susanoo and the Knights of Round. She was presented as a Primal of the pixies after all. Although that might have been deliberate misdirection to hide spoilers.
This whole entire arc was my favorite, the entirety of the moss awashed ruins, everything screamed Irish mythology to me as far as the landscape went. The pixies...the Fuath...and I was listening to the language and thought it was Gaelic they were speaking....weird as I had never heard the language before, I just knew it sounded nothing like anything I had heard before...and was enraptured. Feo Ul made the expansion for me and loved every part they spoke. I do hope there are more interactions to be had. If anything jumped out and me and screamed I AM IRISH it was that spritely being. Pixie , fiery red complexion, and a temperament to boot...I beamed every time they popped up on the screen...the last time I saw them actually having me give leave of a few tears.

NGL, I think Soken hit it out of the f***ing park with this soundtrack. Some of the songs aren't the most "listenable" but they're dripping with character and embody the story so intensely it's hard to feel otherwise. This song is so manic, cheery, and chaotic, and just the right level of sinister.
Do it! Even if you're only playing for the story it's worth it. I came to XIV as a single-player FF fan, and can honestly say XIV is the best FF game since X.
Hop on a trial up to Story Level 35 of the base game, and enjoy the content each expansion (season/arc) offers! 14 is like a single-player story FF, where you're then required to group up to fight a boss/dungeon every couple Story levels to test your co-ordination skills so far, so you can go at it at your own pace or tackle progress with a friend :)
I love how it's a waltz meant to keep you in a trance... And yet, the part where it gets more distorted suggests something might be off. What a great song.

the reverb on the vocal chorus in the C section gradually getting wetter is a really cool concept that kinda fits with the whole "uhh my head feels fuzzy cause of faerie magic" vibe

By the start of this fight I was very ambivalent on this theme. By the end of it I was swaying in my chair to the beat. This track feels like a sped up Cocteau Twins song and I'm feeling it.

The theme is grim if you think about the lyrics. Most of the song is just about the pixies themselves, however one set of lines is about something much darker. Pixies are said to be born of dead children and this is reflected in these lyrics. "Summer child with heavy eyes" Heavy eyes are typically used to describe someone who is on the verge of falling asleep. Children are often told that death is just going to sleep forever. "Come our lonely angel nigh" This is the pixies calling to the soul of the child. For an angel to be lonely, there'd have to be no one waiting for them in the afterlife. A child's parents would still be alive, meaning the child would have no one waiting for them, making them a "lonely angel" "sing in our sweet lullaby" The pixies are calling the soul of the child to come join them as a pixie.
I never really played FFXIV past level 10 but soundtracks like this really makes me wanna go through all the grinding process and pay attention to the story.

Honestly, the pixies are really scary - I wonder just how many people have died due to overzealous tricks/games? With that confusing mist also, they could probably trap anyone they wanted to keep.

This is because according to the Scottish and Irish folk lore and mythology the Fae (all encompassing term which I love that Square Enix paid attention to that) are known to be very mischievous in a way that's beautiful, enchanting, alluring, and yet in one of the darkest and twisted ways.
There is a tale that tells of beautiful Elven Fae women leading young men astray to their lands where they will live the happiest of lives in eternal youth, soon forgetting their past lives, and then becoming one of their own to which if they were to leave they'd rapidly age before dying.
As Valan mentioned, you don't screw with Fairies in traditional folk lore.

Faeries in general are quite pleasant feeling until you actually get in the way of what they want, which is generally mischief.
And honestly, their queen is a force of casualty and nature and harmony at the same time.It think it's actually pretty dangerous if you ask me.

That's the power of psychology my friend. You are aware this theme is playing while the boss is out to kill you, so you associate a subconsciously-created threat to the theme. Imagine this theme playing during a Mary Poppins movie, or a comedy scene - if done right, you will see a complete lack of this threatening sub-aura. No doubt this effect was intended by the composer. Amazing, isn't it?

There's deeper themes with dancing and fae. It's fairly popular to see works from ye olde days of fairies and the like whisking away beautiful young ladies and making them dance endlessly- provided they don't escape.

I find titania ost savage as hell. Shes basically saying how she will enjoy beating the shit out of you while encouraging you to get up and keep going. Even if you get tired shes like "its cool rest and we will begin again." Holy hell shes so confident she will always win she literally discribes two of her actual attacks in the song if you listen.
I just remember Good King Moggle Mog where lyrics literally describe what Moogle does what. It's interesting when song plays part of the combat.

Never played FFXIV, but I’ve been watching videos of it because of Il Mheg. Maybe I’m fascinated with anything that involve the fey, but they did a really good job with them in Shadowbringers. They showcased their penchant for mischief, cruelty, and whimsy. This song is also really catchy and I can’t get it out of my head since I first heard it. This is exactly what the fair folk would have done to us mortals.
Everything is so alluring and lustrous, which serves as a facade for the danger that is the nature of the fey.
Exploring the zone, you find these oddly shaped decorative bushes, some of them fleeing in the direction opposite from the village or tucked away in some obscure locations. The fae in this game refer to them as their "children", but you find out very quickly how they were made.
Turns out the fae fucked up *a lot* of people.

And there was that one cutscene at the conclusion of the story where they played with an army in fae-like fashion, a dazzling spectacle of lights and terror.
Now since I haven’t played the game I’ve only read from other people (so correct me if I’m wrong) that some of the leafmen were once mortals of the original inhabitants of Il Mheg before the sin eaters went and messed everything up. Some of the mortals were turned by the fae to stop their transformation into sin eaters as the fey regarded some of the mortals with affection, hence referring to them as their children. Of course some of the leafmen are a result of the fae preying on unsuspecting mortals.
And yes, the fae are in the business of meddling with mortals for that is their nature. Like Feo Ul said, the fae live in the present and never contemplate the future nor the consequence of their actions.

They are just fleeing citizen, not changed into sin eaters or anything. And also anyone who accidentally travels to Il Mheg will be fucked up in the similar fashion. Fey are just brutal
@@scrwd4568 Not entirely true, if you've done their beast tribe quests, they explain one of the large trees was once human. It was a woman who they actually respected, she was mortally wounded and on the verge of death, slowly bleeding out (This part is only hinted at, as Uin Nee says she was covered in blood when they found her), so they turned her into that large, flowery tree out of both mercy and respect.

It is kinda cool how they go from techno, to metal, to jazz(?), to rap(?), and they all are just for Alexander's storyline. And despite the different genres, they all still manage to work well together and fit the fights well.

As well as the skill name (Midsummer Night's Dream) that changes the arena from castle to forest. There's also Love-in-Idleness when she grows her lovelies (bigger is better). Unsure if 'Being Mortal' means anything (her ultimate).

One of my favorite moments as a parent thus far was my 4 year old daughter watching and "helping me" in this trial and loving the music then me subsequently putting this theme on and dancing "gracefully" to it together

Well she still might be a Primal. I mean there is always a new Titania empowered by ancient relics. It IS a sort of belief. It is like a mix of Susanoo and the Knights of Round. She was presented as a Primal of the pixies after all. Although that might have been deliberate misdirection to hide spoilers.

This whole entire arc was my favorite, the entirety of the moss awashed ruins, everything screamed Irish mythology to me as far as the landscape went. The pixies...the Fuath...and I was listening to the language and thought it was Gaelic they were speaking....weird as I had never heard the language before, I just knew it sounded nothing like anything I had heard before...and was enraptured. Feo Ul made the expansion for me and loved every part they spoke. I do hope there are more interactions to be had. If anything jumped out and me and screamed I AM IRISH it was that spritely being. Pixie , fiery red complexion, and a temperament to boot...I beamed every time they popped up on the screen...the last time I saw them actually having me give leave of a few tears.

The theme is grim if you think about the lyrics. Most of the song is just about the pixies themselves, however one set of lines is about something much darker.

"Summer child with heavy eyes" Heavy eyes are typically used to describe someone who is on the verge of falling asleep. Children are often told that death is just going to sleep forever.
"Come our lonely angel nigh" This is the pixies calling to the soul of the child. For an angel to be lonely, there'd have to be no one waiting for them in the afterlife. A child's parents would still be alive, meaning the child would have no one waiting for them, making them a "lonely angel"
"sing in our sweet lullaby" The pixies are calling the soul of the child to come join them as a pixie.
I never really played FFXIV past level 10 but soundtracks like this really makes me wanna go through all the grinding process and pay attention to the story.
