Coming from the Asus z490 extreme w/10900k….I am beyond happy that I’m able to have everything I need and want at half the price these days ($1k for the z490 extreme, vs the $500 for this strix) that’s what I love…if you upgrade only every three years or so like I do, you can end up getting all you could ever need in a middle to middle-high tier Asus board that was previously only available on the top end Maximus boards. Love Asus and love this UA-cam channel.
08:50 If you running a 4090 you will bottleneck it down to 16gbps by only giving it 8 channels at gen 4 (since it uses a gen 4 bus). It's better to give it full x16 channels with access to 32gbps (64 at gen 5), of which it will only use 20gbps. In short don't put anything in the M.2_1 slot. If you running any less powerful card its probably a non-issue.

Have had this since launch. My only gripes are it should have had dual NICS. Plus, there are 2 fan headers dead center that are almost useless if you have a air cooler that just sits over them. Also, realize that the lanes when adding nvme's mean you should not put a nvme drive in I think it's the second slot AND the pcie5 slot. I'm going by memory here but the lanes are tricky. You actually need to use slot 1, and 3 to not impact your gpu.
nvme in slot 1 will drop your gpu from 16x to 8x, but thats pcie5. so 8x is equivalent to 16x pcie4, which will not bottleneck anything since even a 4090 will not saturate pcie4 16x. so its perfectly fine to run a pcie5 nvme drive and a top of the line graphics card and not bottleneck either.

Here's a question, is it possible to get 5.0 x16 in the gpu slot PLUS m.2 5.0 running simultaneously? Something like allowing the native gpu card but attaching the ssd in a pcie expansion card beneath it? I don't know much about this stuff but I would hate to fast forward 5 years and be having to rip my motherboard out or sacrifice those beautiful ssd speeds to keep up graphically.

Can you get over 7000 ddr5 on z690 of the same board with 13900k?
Hi. Strix or aorus master? For a 13700k + rtx3080. Ty
merci Laurent thank for the entertaining advice this motherboard will it 👍
Does anyone knows why asus armoury crate freeze windows 10
Here's a question, is it possible to get 5.0 x16 in the gpu slot PLUS m.2 5.0 running simultaneously? Something like allowing the native gpu card but attaching the ssd in a pcie expansion card beneath it? I don't know much about this stuff but I would hate to fast forward 5 years and be having to rip my motherboard out or sacrifice those beautiful ssd speeds to keep up graphically.
You can populate the PCIe5 slot and the top M.2_1 slot with PCIe4/5 devices, but they will run at x8 max. each (even if the SSD is x4 only). AM5 is a different story.
Is this MB better than the ROG Maximus Z790 ? Cheers.
i dont think this is a xorthy upgrade if you have a 690E like me, also 8 layer pcb, same chokes etc....
Gonna buy one soon, what do you recommend the best ddr5 board would be for a 13th gen I9
Everyone keeps shitting on these pricey boards, which ones actually worth it?
people are shitting on everything that cost more then 100$ lol
@@idonargesy8197 Baha just paid $1259 for a fuckin motherboard these prices are proper fucked
please Cover MSI PRO X670-P WIFI
On it
@@Laurentschoice I love Ur Video the way u Describe.🤩
Thanks Crazy ... its a lot of work :) . Every encouragement counts
Where did you get the information about the number of PCB layers? Where can I find proof?
When u get a board, get a high precision lens, zoom on the PCB edge, and you can count the layers :)
I did add some footage of it on the review.
Hope this helps
@@Laurentschoice I did something similar, as far as the macro lens of my phone allowed, but unfortunately it was difficult to calculate exactly, it seemed to me either 2 bold layers + 4 regular ones, or still 8 regular layers. Need a microscope :D
Well... to answer your original question, I am where you can find proof ;)
Is it possible to use 4x m.2 Nvme for Raid10 on this board?
it also supports 14th gen ❤
Please review an MSI MPG Z690 Carbon EK X 🙏
Posso colocar 5x m.2 2280 128gb nessa placa
So if i put a GEN4 NVME drive in the first slot or the one closest to the CPU will I be lowering the speed of the GPU?
Yes. Even when it's neglectable. It doesn't matter if you put in a Gen3, 4 or 5 SSD - it will cut the 16 lanes in half.
From what info i got m2.2 slot to not share gpu band
i bought it for 340€ . lets see how is going with 13700k
What does the E stand for?
Expensive XD
Bouahahah
looking good
thanks Darren :) . I have a good genes!
WHYYYYYYYY didn't you do a video of the Strix X670E-E board, instead of this intel XXXX???????
He did.
I did
Ok, calm down
I have this board, only issue I have is a little bit of coil whine from the vrm.. If someone knows a fix..
Oh that's an immediate return.. and replacement on the spot! Just bring/send it back and make some noise.
UNACCEPTABLE !
@@Laurentschoice seller won't rma for it unfortunately its not so loud I've reduced it by lowering vcore. I've seen there is settings for acoustic noise mitigation but haven't tried it
Tres bien 👍
Asus rog strix z790-F ??
Ok :) ill review it
So when I use the top m.2 slot with PCIe 4.0 ssd i have only
PCI Express x8 on the top PCI slot?
Did you find out for sure if this is the case ? don't want my 4090 running at just 8x, will only be using top M2 slot for gen 4, thx
This is the same board as 690 my friend bought z790 and it preformes the same with same i913900k so dont buy for other reason then the bling.
Looking to get this board. Other than connectivity, is there any reason to get the version 2 of this board over this one? What would be the biggest differences between this board and the F model?
In the manual ASUS states that any fan connecter will support a water pump.12:44
They can, but don't deliver the 5 watts per that D5 water pump need to operate at full speed.
Hope this clarifies
@@Laurentschoice that sucks, so I 'll need to go to the aio connecter for 24/7 full throttle.
Indeed. .... not optional
@@Laurentschoice I returned it.
@@Laurentschoiceis this the same for the Hero?
Means you have bad days if today is a good day lol
Everything I wanted to know about this mobo in 15min. Great view. Sub from me!
Top 🔝
Can we put a m.2 gen 4 on the gen 5 slot?
Yes. It will cut the lanes to the GPU in half though.
HERO
4 Dimms DDR5 doesnt work with XMP or higher than 5600MHz. Mass RAM Errors.
unfortunately even this model is way overpriced.
Does it work with i9- 14900k? Thanks
After BIOS update yes.
@@Laurentschoice thank you so much. Cpu temperature higher than previous, I get 81 degree celsius. I wonder lower than. Thanks
And that's pretty good. I got one too and it's hitting the 100c all the time.
