  • What's the difference between a big hard belly and a flabby belly? Visceral fat. Visceral fat is the fat inside the abdominal cavity. It accumulates around the organs and disrupts hormonal balance as well as the functioning of certain organs, like the liver, heart, pancreas, and intestines.

I have lost 24” on my waistline on KETO - YES 2 FEET! I’ve also lost 143lbs now. I once weighed 321lbs - my stomach was over 60”! My stomach measurement is now 36”. I’ve been on Keto for 2 years now. I love it! I also do IF & OMAD. I have not fasted past 24 hours though, and I don’t perform particularly strenuous exercise - 10lb dumbbells once per week, and I take my dog for a walk every day - just 8 houses down & back. She’s old too - I’m 59. 5’11”, hypothyroid, Epstein-Barr, & have Hemochromatosis. I was diagnosed with a severe fatty liver 2 years ago. That is gone now. But I will be fighting Hemochromatosis the rest of my life. Keto saved my life.

I had the rock-hard upper belly for years, yet no fat anywhere on my body.
For years, I could not lose weight - until I took my eye off weight loss and focussed on healing a fatty liver. This seems to be working and 5 months later, I've lost 45 pounds.

@@xploit811 Hi, I focused on cruciferous vegetables and fatty meat. I was never a vegetable eater, but knew I could stomach sprouts and/or broccoli - with cheese melted over it.
For meats, I focussed on steak and beef steak mince - but others were allowed.
I then began reducing my carb intake and as the weight began to fall, I slipped accidentally into Keto.
Having struggled with my weight for over twenty years, these key changes have so far helped me to lose more than 50 pounds - which I'd given up any hope of.

Couldn't find a better place to put this than here, so here it goes. I subscribed to the weigh loss thing a while back and for a time it worked, then it didn't. What I really wanted was to loose visceral fat and loose this Metabolic syndrome. As things went along my blood sugar was "in control" in that it stayed at or around 122, my blood pressure was 155-165/ 68 and I weighed 276 pounds. A few years ago I weighed 376 pounds so I was comfortable with my weight. I have always been dense as I weighed 220 in the 7th grade and was an athlete. So, back to the present. I was following a high fat/ low carb diet and was having difficulty with gas, belching, and other. I normally felt bloated and lacking any energy. On July 1st of this year, I decided that I might have a dairy problem so I stopped all the butter, cheese and cream. This forced me to be on a balanced diet about 40% carbs, 30 % Protein and 30% fat. On July 2 my blood sugar was 90, my blood pressure was 122/88 and I have lowered my diabetic drugs from 3/day to 2. To date, my 30 day ave. blood glucose is 93. My Blood pressure ave is 133/68 and I have lost down to 257 pounds. This month I am going to try to get lower in carbs and back to Intermittent fasting. My success has come form 3 elements. 1. The elimination of dairy. Evidently I had a slight allergy which was causing an immune response and systemic inflammation. 2. The addition of Curcumin, Magnesium and Berberine (2/day) which I surmise has assisted my cells to become far less insulin resistant. and 3. Consistently adding enough physical activity so that I will sweat profusely for 20 min. or more. I believe this causes the liver to give up much of the stored glucose. It is working very well and two days ago I even got a BS reading in the 70s, so I may be able to reduce meds even more. The best bonus is the addition of life energy. Just living doesn't seem to wear me out like it used to. I believe in what you are doing and educating. I am just not there yet. I think my hormones have been in disarray for over 30 years and now I see a path forward. Thanks!!!

Age 49, I'll be 50 in Dec so I decided it's now or never. I weighed 285 (6'1") July 31 and on Sept7 weighed 259. I weigh myself once a week, year end goal is 220 then go from there. Gradually loosing fat weight without loosing muscle mass nor feeling "hangry" . Just another working alternative as long as not binging on proteins.

This is truly a commitment in my life style and the foods I eat. Having said that, I have a epigastric hernia about 2 inches above my belly button. I have notice that the hernia is much harder to push back in now that I have lost this weight. Do you have the answer as to why? (I will have the hernia repaired after I lose another 40 or 50 pounds. I also still have dull pain from fatter liver. How long does it take for the liver to shed it's fat? Please advise.

What do you consider high? My doctor thinks total chloresteral of 235 is high even hough my tricycerides, HDL, and LDL (154) are all in normal range. She's uggested statins but knows that I would never do it. I realize that she has no knowledge of nutrition and none about Keto and cholesterol. If you are keeping your carbs low with no processed vegetable oils or trans fats then I would just assume you are "normal".

I understand the difference between the definitions of subcutaneous and visceral fat, but I was confused when you talked about the big hard stomach. I assume you were contrasting it with the loose flabby stomach that women develop. So, if you're contrasting it, which one is less healthy? Or are they both unhealthy? Are they both due to visceral fat? Can you tell by the way it feels whether the fat is visceral of subq? In addition to that question, I also wanted to thank you for mentioning the timing of the IF. I think that answered a question for me.

My husband who is 63 has had a big hard belly for over 30 years. He doesn’t eat a lot, has low blood pressure, low cholesterol, and has been overweight for 30 years. He doesn’t exercise because he had a knee replacement two years ago and it swells up on him and before that it just hurt. I don’t eat dairy or gluten and he eats what I cook but he likes his red wine and occasional scotch. His sister who is obese is a diabetic and his dad was borderline. I go to a hormone doctor and I am on bio-identical hormones because of menopause. He started going. He had no testosterone but can not take it because of being diagnosed with polycythemia. It raises his hematocrits and hemoglobin. What’s a guy to do?
