If I had to pick a main feature I like in regards to off-roading, is that the 4Runner still has the manual 4wd lever. My tundra electronic 4x4 switch went out and it’s an expensive fix, it didn’t want to shift. With the 4Runner you force it to shift with that lever, and I wish they were all like that. I just picked up my Super White 2021 4Runner Venture Edition w/KDSS. I was going to get the TRD Pro but after doing some research, the TRD Pro doesn’t offer KDSS. KDSS > Fox Struts, imo, but anyways, gorgeous car!
I can’t say better than Fox but man I LOVE KDSS. When I drive through the mountains between PCH & the valley I can’t express how well KDSS makes the handling feel. I got ‘stuck’ behind an older Runner with a big lift (guessing 4+”) and it made me not want much lift. That lifted Runner looked like it was going to flip on some of the tiff turns at speed. I know the Runner isn’t a race car... I just think 2-3” of lift is the sweet spot.
LED headlights are the only thing missing from my '20. Halogens definitely have a place when it comes to melting snow. I plan on adding a set of '21 LED headlights to my '20 soon. I removed my exhaust because it was very annoying. Removed the Pro roof rack. Lifted mine with the Eibach springs. Once I add the LED's it will be exactly how it should have came from the factory in 2020.
Welcome to the Stormtrooper White club. I just realized my 2020 TRD ORP payoff is only a few K over trade-in value. I’m really tempted to trade it for the TRD Pro. I will say having KDSS makes it a hard call. I love how stiff my ORP is. I’ve had it since July & only have 3500 miles on it.

My only gripe with the 4Runner is the engine. It’s why I keep the GX460/470 on my radar. The exterior design of the 4Runner is just timeless in my opinion though. I have no idea how Toyota plans to beat it with the next design.

I’ve grown to appreciate this for what it is though and speed and grunt are not on the list. My wife and I love the GX too. Can’t go wrong with those... 👌🏻
That GX engine isn’t that much better overall than the Runner. I’ve had 3 Runners (2020 TRD ORP currently) plus GX 470 & GX 460. The GX requires trips to gas station often. V8 + AWD + small fuel tank + required premium. I choose 4Runner unless you want all the lipstick.

I’m not tracking any large-scale updates for the 2022 4Runner... the Tundra is the only one receiving a full overhaul. I think the 4Runner and Sequoia are next in line... 23 maybe 24.
The 4Runner is one of my favorite vehicles...however I wish they still offered a V8. In my opinion the reliability factor would still be there, but with more day to day power, especially when loaded down.

@@J.Young808 Yes that’s true, but there are certain parts of the 4Runner I prefer like HVAC controls, E-locker, no third row if not wanted, Apple CarPlay.
Love the videos! I would love to see a comparison between the 4runner platform and the Lexus Gx460, have you ever driven/ reviewed one of those? These are the two top contenders on my list for a next car.
Damn 15 mpg and his is stock with the 265-70-17 Nitto terra grapplers. My 4runner is lifted 2 and a half inches with bigger and more aggressive tires which are 275/70/17 falken wildpeaks which are heavier tires with the older trd wheels which are tad bit heavier and I get 17.4 mpg combined. I also have rock sliders and Trd skid plate. I also lug around a good amount of drum gear and equipment. Strange. My area also has mountains and a lot of steep climbs. I def don’t go hard on it though and normally drive 5-10 mph over the speed limit. Also mine is a 2018 and it has side mirror heaters. I’m pretty sure all 4runners do.
This is the original tank of gas, there had been a lot of idle time spent on this tank -as I haven’t had the temp tags for a few weeks. This isn’t a true depiction of the fuel economy. Next tank will show accurate numbers.
Nice! The 4Runner and FJ are color first vehicle options imo. Way nicer than my first car so props to you if you can swing one. 3rd gen and 5th gen are the ones I’d shoot for depending on your budget.
I can only speak to TRD ORP with KDSS .. and I LOVE KDSS. It makes it a completely different vehicle...& I can always add a little lift with Bilstein or Fox for under $2K.
@@jaypalmer7786 You are going to love it. I think you can do under 3” of lift with KDSS & be ok. IMO, pay the specialty shop premium when you do it. It’s worth having a Toyo shop make sure it’s right as I’ve read about some having a lean post-lift. With 2” I think you can fit 285 tires.
@@UntamedMotors it’s going to be hard pill to swallow.. but I traded in my 2018 TRDP and a 2020 STI for my raptor.. I’m buying a 2021 STI tomorrow and probably trading in the 2020 raptor for a lunar rock TRD PRO lol
Easy. It's special because it still has the 4.0 engine and not the 3.5 or a hybrid drivetrain. I don't believe for a second that it will survive into the next generation without being castrated into a 2 liter, 4 cylinder hybrid. If you are considering one, get it while you still can!
I’ve owned 2 GX & 3 4Runner, including 2020 TRD ORP now. I would take a TRD Pro or TRD ORP over a GX ANY day. The GX is nice but if you want to really off-road you’ll be ripping parts off. Also, that V8 with full-time 4WD & a small gas tank = trips to gas station OFTEN .. and requires Premium. All the ‘lipstick’ on the GX isn’t worth it to me personally.
@@TracyClark do you plan on keeping your 4Runner? Or, is it a lease? What are your thoughts on engine performance? I live in Colorado. Air is a little thin up here.
@@aaronyoung6903 It is a lease. The only reason we leased it is that I had to replace a truck before a move and wasn’t 100% sure what I wanted. All the advice I got for moving to LA was don’t go huge as it would be a PITA to park/in city. It’s my 3rd Runner but my favorite. KDSS makes it ride stiff & handle great. I think it has plenty of power. I grew up around racing cars but have no need for crazy fast SUV. I’ve made the run to the valley from PCH (Malibu) through Topanga and that is a fun twisty ride! Will I keep it? Tough call as I may get the OK for an LC 200 and that will be hard to pass up. I do like the looks of it better than LC. If I put some $ into it it would look WAY better than LC IMO. If LC not an option I am 100% keeping it and buying off lease. I am only 7 months into lease & could ‘trade’ in at about $40K and payoff is $43K. At end of lease I could buy for $30K. That’s a no-brainer. I’m pretty picky & I think it’s built really well. Feels solid. I love the simplicity of the knobs. One thing that ISN’T good is the one-stage (water based) paint. It scratches if you look at it wrong. I think some colors other than my white may not be single stage. .. but I love the stormtrooper look. Toyota has even offered to paint a few nicks for me after I pushed Toyota HQ. Overall, it’s a great ride. The only other Gen I like is 3 and 5 seems much bigger which is nice. Hope this helps.
my only complaint with that TRD Pro is the mirrors, they need to heat and they dont have the turn signal indicator, i can live without the blindspot monitor but it would be a nice addition. other then that its perfection. i believe the reason they dont have the blind spot indicator is because they expect people to take this off road and even lift it and the sensors would have to be recalibrated if it was lifted.
I think it’s overpriced for what you get. I’d pay $55k for it if it had a better, more fuel efficient engine ie ecoboost or diesel, better infotainment and better lane keep and adaptive cruise control that came to a complete stop.
you better buy it now before it will make from Taco Mexico then quality went down to the tube due to the quality check by Mexican just like eating taco with tomato sauce because i have issue with dashboard that making vibration noice but Toyota could not fix because they did not hear it when test drive for 3 times and it happened when it was so cold outside...damn Mexican made Tacoma.. Aww buggy and peanut! They are so cute 🥰 I love ❤️ your beautiful Toyota 4Runner TRD it’s awesome 🤩 love ❤️ your videos.
Thank you thank you! This UA-cam channel has become a family affair =]
@@UntamedMotors yes it has and I love it
Best looking SUV on the planet.Got a new sub from Yorktown,Va.
Thanks a lot man! =]
What metal and finish on the RSG sliders? Thanks.
Love the videos! I would love to see a comparison between the 4runner platform and the Lexus Gx460, have you ever driven/ reviewed one of those? These are the two top contenders on my list for a next car.
Do they still have a halogen DRL light?
I’m still not sure if untamed motors is 25 or 45 years old
...it does have the 4.0 V6.....it's the only engine available which of course you know because you practically live at the dealerships :D
I'm currently looking for a first car, would you recommend a 4runner as a good option and which year should i get? Thanks, I love ur channel!
Nice! The 4Runner and FJ are color first vehicle options imo. Way nicer than my first car so props to you if you can swing one. 3rd gen and 5th gen are the ones I’d shoot for depending on your budget.
@@UntamedMotors my budget maximum is $10,000. It is my first car and I don't want to spend too much.
@@acsupersport7981 i’d for sure pursue a 3rd gen 4Runner. It’ll hold value throughout your ownership so long as you maintain it well. 👌🏻
@@UntamedMotors ok thanks for your help, I'll start researching.
@@acsupersport7981 np! Let me know what you end up getting!
I'd love to get a trd pro if winter didn't last 8-9 months in my area; hence,I went with the limited instead and made it look like a pro. :)
Heck yeah man, the limited is fantastic. Congrats.
Awww buggy 🐛and peanut 🥜 cameo.

I need to sell my FJ Cruiser and buy the Exact same 2021 4Runner TRD Pro that you bought, white and pull out tray
Parting with an FJ is a tough one though... =/
@@UntamedMotors True , the FJ is super nice. If you could only keep one vehicle would it be the fj cruiser or the 4 runner and why?
@@jesuschavez2224 love both for sure... the FJ is definitely more special but the 4Runner fits the family better. =]
@@UntamedMotors True
I WOULD GET SOME SMOKE OUT TAILLIGHTS PROBABLY WOULD LOOK BETTER IN MY OPINION
That’s not a bad idea... hmm 🤔
What do you think of the Pro's Fox Suspension vs ORP with KDSS?
I can only speak to TRD ORP with KDSS .. and I LOVE KDSS. It makes it a completely different vehicle...& I can always add a little lift with Bilstein or Fox for under $2K.
@@TracyClark Sweet! I am just in process of purchasing a 2021 TRD ORP with KDSS! And interested in a little lift after a bit. Thanks.
San Antonio baby!!!!!
I have a 2020 raptor.... would you trade in for a TRD PRO?
I did. Haha
I had a 2017 Raptor and a 2019 Raptor before. I prefer TRD Pros. =]
@@patricktejas4938 haha 😂 well I support you 👍
@@UntamedMotors im just looking for long term.. the TRDP hold sweet resale value.
@@UntamedMotors well. Keeping the raptor. Buying a pro to go with it
Easy. It's special because it still has the 4.0 engine and not the 3.5 or a hybrid drivetrain.
I don't believe for a second that it will survive into the next generation without being castrated into a 2 liter, 4 cylinder hybrid. If you are considering one, get it while you still can!
What are your thoughts on getting a GX 460? Worth a look?
@@aaronyoung6903 ask me anything. Glad to help.
@@aaronyoung6903 found this. filmed from a TRD ORP.. guy has other good videos. I don’t ever see doing this. ua-cam.com/video/yL_t9X_nqro/v-deo.html
my only complaint with that TRD Pro is the mirrors, they need to heat and they dont have the turn signal indicator, i can live without the blindspot monitor but it would be a nice addition. other then that its perfection. i believe the reason they dont have the blind spot indicator is because they expect people to take this off road and even lift it and the sensors would have to be recalibrated if it was lifted.
I’m pretty sure it has heated mirrors...
Yep found the button. It just doesn’t have the heated mirror icon like the Tundra is all.
Pshhhh, They still didn't bring back " Party Mode" ?
C'mon Toyota get it together
Haha ikr!?
Yeah because White is a cooler color for a car in the Hawaiian Sun
Makes perfect sense to me 👌🏻
Come on untamed!! Now your making me regret trading my Pro in for a tundra pro. Lol.
This 4Runner is Storm Breaker
Please Toyota give us a 4Runner Prime.
I think it’s overpriced for what you get. I’d pay $55k for it if it had a better, more fuel efficient engine ie ecoboost or diesel, better infotainment and better lane keep and adaptive cruise control that came to a complete stop.
How long you keeping this? Lol
We’ll see! Longer than the last one for sure.
Get rid of ..like this week. 225 miles time to trade sell or whatever...just send it down the road
I mean it IS time... you’re right 😂
I think you change cars as much as I do underwear.
Lol hope to wear this set for a while...
Still no compares with Army Green
Yeah Army Green is next level... 👌🏻
The wife appreciate the “less flashy” appeal of the white though.
Take a shot everytime he says land cruiser
You keep buying and selling most off road capable vehicles and use them as family haulers. Take a look at minivans next time you are in the market.
Sure thing Nader! smh...
Any reviews for the Rav4 TRD Off Road? It seems very comfortable for an everyday drive. The 4runner is a weekend car. LOL

15.9mpg tho lol
Haha yeah it should do a lot better on the next tank of gas. Lots of idle time with this tank...
@@UntamedMotors but hey, if you buying this vehicle, you better not complain about mpg cuz u ain’t buying this for MPG. Awesome rig tho.

I would pay 100000 for a Japanese built 5.7 TRD PRO 4Runner. 🤷♂️ 🇺🇸🇨🇦
That would be sick but then again just get a land cruiser. Same engine and basically around that price point for the heritage edition.
you better buy it now before it will make from Taco Mexico then quality went down to the tube due to the quality check by Mexican just like eating taco with tomato sauce because i have issue with dashboard that making vibration noice but Toyota could not fix because they did not hear it when test drive for 3 times and it happened when it was so cold outside...damn Mexican made Tacoma.. Damn Toyota who made a decision to make tacoma in fajita place
