This is the most useful video I've found demonstrating this technique. The fact that it's a jogless cast on is what sealed the deal for me. Any time I need a tutorial, I look at several videos, and time and time again, it's Suzanne Bryan for the win.
Wow, what a lovely thing to say, Jennifer, thanks so much! ❤️
I don't even check anyone else's tutorials these days, if I want to know how to do something I come straight to Suzanne.
Wow, what a lovely thing to say, MSHF, thanks so much! ❤️
Beautiful.
Actually able to follow and do this.
In my 70's. Never seen this till a few days ago
Wonderful!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful knowledge. This is such a professional finish. I am so pleased that of all the groups on UA-cam, I chose yours. You are the best.
What a lovely thing to say, Marie, thanks so much! ❤️
This is by far the best explanation of a beautiful tubular cast on I've come upon so far and that should mean a lot coming from a knitter with close to 50 years of experience ;-) Thank you ever so much, with this video you've upgraded my knitted hats to quite another standard
Wonderful. This makes me very happy. Happy knitting to you!
As always, you make the complicated easy to understand. I am always, ALWAYS grateful for your videos. Thank you!

I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate you for doing this video. I have used the video for all my tubular cast on garments and I just love how good your instructions are. So easy to follow and so concise and slow enough that even I can follow it. Again thank you from the bottom of my knitty heart 💗🤗🤗🤗
Wow Suzanne. You always make everything look so easy and the lightbulb goes on in my head when I hear you explain the process. Thank you for yet another wonderful tutorial. Rachel S.
Thanks so much, Rachel!
Everything I needed to make sleeve cuffs and sweater waistband! I've viewed this video many, many times.Thank you very, very much, Suzanne.
That's wonderful, Elb Bo, I'm glad it was helpful! 😊
You are truly a genius!!! I have been trying to learn this cast on for years and until I came across you video I had complete give up on learning it but you saved me. I have completed 3 hats now using your genius tubular cast on method and am very happy to say that it is now my favourite co method. Thank you so much!! You are brilliant!!!!!
This is the best tutorial I've found yet for this technique. Thanks for sharing it!
Thank you Happy Knitting.
I keep coming back to this tutorial! This is great! 😊
Thank you very much!! Tried 3 different cast ons and pulled it out again because they didn't look great. But this one looks perfect for knitting my first pair of stranded socks! Very good explanation!
I've watched several videos on this topic and yours was by far the easiest to master. This will be my best sweater yet!!
Thank you for such clear, concise instructions! Yours is the BEST tutorial on the tubular cast on for 1X1 rib! After watching, I feel confident to begin my pullover sweater pattern that requires this type of cast on. You’re an amazing teacher, and I hope you continue making tutorials.
Thank you! Happy Knitting!
You are the BEST knitting teacher I have ever seen! Thank you so much for all your videos! Elizabeth Zimmerman has nothing on you!!
Oh, you are too kind! Thank you! Happy knitting.
I agree!
I always learn something new from you Suzanne and I love watching you in action. Thank you for sharing your know-how and expertise with us all. 🩷
THIS IS THE BEST provisional cast on I've ever seen. I've never seen it done like this before. Thanks.
Wonderful. It is the best one for doing Tubular Cast On in the round. All the others end up with an odd number of stitches. Thank you. Hugs and Happy Knitting.
Wonderfully clear tubular cast on, thank you so much Suzanne!
You are so welcome!
I was struggling to get this until this video. Using two circulars really helps👍🏿
This is so wonderful to hear, Annmarie! ❤️
OHHH, bless you my dear! FINALLY, a tubular cast on that is easy to follow! Please, please, please, continue to make tutorial videos, you are an amazing teacher!
Thank you! Happy Knitting!

I’ve watched and tried 3 other videos on this subject and this was by far the best and most successful for me, thanks very much! Always such an excellent teacher!
This is a wonderful cast on, and I love rewatching your video so that I can start my new sweater. You’re the best, Suzanne! ❤️
Thank you SO much for this video. It’s the best method I’ve tried. And you are an excellent teacher.
Thank you! Be sure to share my videos on your social media! Happy knitting.
Wow 😮 this’s is really magical not very easy but needs so much practice to memorise . Thank you very much for your beautiful voice and slowly knitting 🧶 good for beginners as myself. Take care good night. love from Ankara Turkey 🇹🇷
My pleasure, Vecky! I've got lots of videos to support new knitters, as well as a Facebook page (same name) filled with knitters that love to help! ❤️
Oh my goodness! I love this. I have tried watching versions of this technique and your tutorial is awesome! Thank you
Wonderful to hear, Elizabeth! ❤️
I wish I had seen the way you did the provisional cast on years ago. I avoided it because of trying to find the right side to pull. Your way is so much easier. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I searched high and low and then came across yours. This is exactly what I had been searching for and the instructions were so nice and clear. Thank you again!
Glad it was helpful!
Brilliant! So much easier that other methods. Thanks for such clear and easy to follow instructions.
That is amazing! You are a genius. I just love your videos and your patterns. I did the ITAG KAL and I love that sweater. I've made at least 10 of them for everyone I know as well as myself, of course. Keep it up. I have a new passion for the craft of knitting thanks to you. May God Bless you always. Thanks you for everything you do.
I just started knitting a hat a used this cast on method. It came out really well. Thank you.
Thank you!!! Super helpful. No one has a video using circulars with several stitches (for a sweater). This method makes it really easy!
Glad it was helpful!
The provisional cast on coming out was like a magic trick! I can't wait to try it myself, I'll be using this method to cast on the neckband of a sweater!
Wow! I couldn’t work out from written instructions how it wouldn’t all unravel when I pulled out the provisional cast on but, seein that you end up effectively doing doubly knitting, it all make s sense! Thank you
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much for sharing your ideas. Always a pleasure.
Making my knitting look knitter😘😘
Loved your instructional video for a tubular cast on, Suzanne. It took me a couple of trial runs before I was happy with the results, but I love the look and feel of this method.
That's awesome, Carol, way to persevere! 😊
Thanks so much! Nothing else made sense to me until I saw you demonstrate this technique with the provisional cast on
Excellent, Sharon! I hope you have chosen to subscribe to my channel. Happy knitting.
Thanks to you Suzanne, I tried this CO for some gloves where I normally would have done just long tail CO or German CO at the most. I just love the tubular CO, thank you so much for explaining so excellently 💕
Learning from you really makes my knitting art
Great job! Happy Holidays.
I like all your videos and this one was too good! You go step by step and it's very clear to follow.
Thanks a lot 😊🧶
Love this version using the knitting g needle instead of continuous crochet chain!!!
Thank you for your video! My hat is off to a beautiful start.
Thanks, Happy knitting.
Thank you sincerely. Your clear explanation is so easy to follow and gives me the confidence to improve my knitting skills It is very much appreciated ⚘
You are so welcome!
Perfect tutorial! Clear, concise with wonderful pearls of wisdom. I look forward to learning
anything you are willing to teach. Thank you for your generosity. Your mitten pattern, by the way, is a gem.
Thank you. 😊
Thank you! This is the best tutorial I have followed so far. Very clear. I had immediate success. The results are beautiful! I was so amazed when I pulled out my provisional yarn! :-)
Fun! Thank you and happy knitting.
Thank you for this video, the cast on is beautiful and I never knew this!! Defenitely going to use this from now on. Wow. I had a nice method for jogless knitting in the round but the tubelar cast on makes it even better.
You're so welcome!
This is the easiest tubular cast on I’ve seen. Thanks so much.
I teach a class on all the methods for creating a tubular cast on and I agree, this is the easiest one. Happy knitting.
Watch this video several time and then dove right in. Thanks so much.
Had to redo or understand my knitting as the cast on was for 110 stitches, so half is 55 for the provisional cast on. Guess it would have been easier with an even number of stitches. But I got it, do thank you again.
Outstanding. Wonderful work.
Thank you for such a clear & efficient method of the tubular co!!!
You are very welcome.
Truly brilliant explanation by equally brilliant expert in knitting. Thank you Susan so very much. All your videos on knitting are outstanding and most enjoyable to watch. Know that it is you who makes knitting my passion. Many, many thanks again.
Thank you so much! Happy knitting Cyril.
thank you so much! you explained it and showed it very clearly - my pattern instructions had me about to skip this and just do a long tail, but it is very pretty and not that hard once i watched this
You are so welcome!
I absolutely love your videos. They are clear and easy to follow, just great!
The easiest version of the cast-on I’ve seen! It does require that the knitting is quite tidy, I have so far been getting a rather loose edge whereas with the version where you fold and join two edges makes a very tidy edge but a lot more fiddly!
Some people find that if they go down a needle size or two for the cast on and double knitting rows, then go up to the preferred size after that, that their ribbing is tidier.
Thank you!!!! Now I understant tubolar cast on. This is the best and the most clear tutorial 😎😉
You are very welcome. Happy knitting.
thank you. Your instructions and video were clear and concise. Slow and deliberate. I loved it!!
I am happy to hear this, Gail, thank you! ❤️
Thank you so much for the great video, Suzanne! It took me a couple of times to get it right on magic loop, but I got there.
Wonderful! Happy knitting!
This is a great tutorial, Suzanne, as usual. Thank you! I am working with this method to start the actual Latvia sweater
Wonderful, Fatima, I am sure your sweater will be beautiful! ❤️
Ingenious method, wonder who invented it during a long dark winter I suppose.
Your tutorials are excellent, thank you so much 💓
So nice of you. Happy Holidays.
Another fantastic video, Suzanne. Thank you. I'm looking forward to giving this a try by following your directions exactly.
Excellent! It is a great skill to have in your repertoire.
Love your explanation and speed to learn how to cast on tubular. At the end of results I was impressed, and whoaaaaa came out of me. I’m just learning.
Very cool. Happy knitting.
Wow! I couldn’t figure out why you were doing all this instead of just the long tail CO, but boy did it make sense in the end! Beautiful edge
Glad it was helpful!
I have 3 brother and a singer long bed knitting machines with ribbers, this is the equivalent of their circular cast on. I just never knew what or why I was doing it, I just followed along haha
Beautiful presentation. Your instruction is soooo clear and helpful! Thank you. I will be exploring more of your videos to help me perfect my knitting 😀
Thank you so much, this is my favorite way of doing the tubular cast on. Happy knitting.
Brilliant - and what a lovely edge, well worth that little extra work to get such a polished end product. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Taryn Tarantino! Happy knitting.
Thank you very much for this detailed tutorial!
Dear Suzanne, thank you so much for this tutorial
You are very welcome.
Such a beautiful tubular cast on! I love it. Took me three tries but I got it. The YO kept throwing a kink somehow; I did them all but then lost one of them twice! It was at the end of the needle (I used magic loop). Thank you Suzanne!
You are the best teacher !!!!!!
If you like my videos, be sure to subscribe to my channel.
😀
Excellent tutorial
Thank you so much, Miss Mayflower! 😊
I'm so happy to have found your channel! I've been knitting for a very long time, but so many new techniques to learn. You're an excellent teacher, easy to understand. Thank you.
Wow! Thank you so much, happy knitting.
Thank you very much for this clear and easy tutorial! I finished my rib with lovely shape! I am knitting my first sweater and binding off the rib made me quite afraid but just following your tutorial, it came out so nicely :) Happy Christmas and warm greetings from Korea❤
Such a wonderful video, Suzanne! I feel that I understand the tubular cast on for knitting in the round perfectly, although I'm sure I will need to refer back to your video until I'm completely comfortable with the technique. I plan to use this for the start of the collar on a sweater and I can see how much nicer it will be than my usual long-tail cast on. Thank you so much!
You are so welcome, Carol, I'm sure sweater collar will be lovely!
Finally a video that makes since! Thank-you so much!!! :)
Thank you. Happy Knitting.
My brain just exploded… that’s a lot of work. Although its probably going to be a gorgeous cast on. I need something simple for a beginner.
Hi Gina, here's a video that may help, Beginning Knitting - Standard Long Tail Cast On w/o Slip Knot ua-cam.com/video/J8y6Q55xJ6s/v-deo.html 😊
Thank you again for a clear and confidence- inspiring video. I recently used your tubular cast off video - just the best- and now here I am with a new project suggesting a tubular cast on. It was a breeze thanks to you. ;))
That's wonderful, FB! I'm always happy to help!
Thank you for this helpul video! It took me five (very frustrating) tries, but now I've got a lovely edge for my hat :)
What I found most difficult was to not create wide gaps where the two circular needles meet on each side, so that it will become a neat round.
Those usually go away after a couple of rounds. It is also helpful if you snug up (not too tightly) the first and second stitch after you change needles. Happy Holidays.
My new cast-on for this winter's mittens--I love this, and I thank you, Suzanne!
Wonderful1 Happy knitting.
Thanks so much for this easy to follow tutorial!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent Suzanne!!!!
Thank you! Happy Holidays.
I’ve always wanted to learn the kitchener cast on method before I knew what the technical name for it was. A few years ago I bought a nice knitting book to improve
my skills and I did learn a lot from it but the illustrations and descriptions for Kitchener rib was too confusing and I always gave up. I’ve recently watched a few tutorials but this one is easy to follow and I’m so excited to make a new knit beanie with a beautiful professional looking rib. Thank you!!! This could be called Kitchener rib for dummies..and this dummy is so very grateful..lol!!!
Thank you Kristina Lea! Happy knitting.
Absolutely awesome !
And so well explained ! Thanks very much !
You are so welcome, Zélée! I really appreciate your lovely feedback!
I just finished little toe-up socks with this method (just 2 rows of preparation because they are very small, it's a birth size), it's just perfect!
Thank you very much for the great lesson!
You are my go-to source for knitting instructions, thank you so much for sharing your talents and skills! I especially like that I can see these methods and techniques using the continental style of knitting.
First, I made a boo-boo and it actually turned out OK!
Instead of; crochet provisional stitches -> divide stitches -> k1, yo cast on -> continue tubular knitting,
I did; crochet provisional stitches -> k1, yo cast on -> divide stitches -> continue tubular knitting.
This way worked for me because it seemed like I was able to control that yo stitch better.
Second, I did the tubular cast on using the flexi-flip needles. I have not used circular needles to cast on yet, it's on my list, but it's kinda intimidating!
Thanks again and hope you are staying safe and healthy!
Awesome and thank you for the tips. 🧶
Excellent video tutorial and nice gentle voice ❤️ Thanks for sharing 🌹
Thanks for watching and commenting. Happy knitting.
Thank you very much. This was very easy to understand.
Great to hear! 🧶
Thank you, now I know how to make easy tubular cast on...
You bet!
Maravilloso el vídeo.Muchas gracias por compartirlo ❤
So clear and easy to follow as always. Thank you!
You are so welcome, Juliet!
Thank you for the clear instruction. I've already finished a pair of fingerless gloves years ago with tubular cast on. At that time I didn't use provisional cast on -- followed the method without waste yarn. However I must say that I failed not only a number of time but also found the stitches slightly uneven. I've just started a pullover for my husband and this time I don't want to feel stressed anymore. I'm going to follow your instruction. This is my second attempt to knit a garment. :0 Fingers crossed!
Let me know how it turns out. Sometimes a person may need to go down in needle size for the first few rows to make it tidy. Happy knitting.
Knitting with Suzanne Bryan It turned out great, although I failed a lot, too :0 p
However the provisional cast on stitches definitely helped and after a few rounds I managed to make it! :) I forgot to redistribute stitches around the join, as a result the first few rounds there is slightly sloppy. I’ll try to prevent this next time. Also the yarn I’m using is quite fuzzy looking sport weight, that is why it was not easy to succeed at the very first try.
Great. It does get better with practice. When I first learned how to do it, I had to try it several times before it looked as good as I wanted it to. Also, smaller needles can help at the beginning, then switch to the normal size after the double knitting rounds are done - as you start the ribbing.
Just tried this for a half-twisted rib and it worked really well.
Great. I would love to see a picture. Are you on Ravelry?
I am but I'm pretty new so haven't used it much yet. I'll see how I go adding a picture - I'm using this cast on for a jumper sleeve :)
Great. let me know.
best instructions ever!!!
Thank you, Yogeeta!
Wonderful tutorial! Two techniques in one, I have always struggled with provisional cast on with a crochet hook, thank you for this.
Wonderful! Hugs and Happy knitting.
