Fun fact: Before Henry was married to Anne Boleyn, at 00:24 where Aragon is saying “even though you had one son with someone who don’t own a wedding ring.” She’s talking about Henry FitzRoy, Duke of Somerset. His mother was named: Elizabeth “Bessie” Blount, she appeared in SiX: The Musical as a bassist and a lady-in-waiting to Aragon and Cleves. FitzRoy was known as the “bastard son” to his father Henry VIII. For being mean to him and last but not least... *Henry was 18 when he married to Aragon who was 24*

@@islamarks380 no, Sweetie, Anne and Mary Boleyn (once Henry's mistress and an ancestor of the current English queen) were sisters. @@zenzfangorl9588 Absolutely. She was no more "bloody" than any other Tudor - her grandfather, father, brother, and sister all executed plenty of people. Most hatred toward her is rooted in misogyny and protestant bias. My dad said I could listen to the songs for each wife because I'm learning about Henry's wives. I got this in the bag already lol Just needed a music break
These aren't meant to be educational, they're rewritten versions of the stories to make them more feminist. I'd give you a proper history lesson on each wife's life, but it would be 2 years late lol Also, feminism is a good thing, just don't take art in place of education. And no, I don't mean this musical is a Picasso masterpiece, art is any expression of someone's creativity I can give you a bit of information on the queen's true selves tho, just a little Catherine of Aragon Girl's determined. She and her daughter, Mary, weren't allowed see each other from the divorce until her death. They COULD have seen each other if they said the marriage was illegitimate, but that would take Mary out of the line of succession. They still wrote to each other. Catherine refused to get a divorce because the only way to do it was to admit that their marriage was illegitimate, but she's extremely religious and it went against her beliefs. She was wise, determined, patient, and nurturing. She loved her people and throughout every wife they acknowledged her as the rightful queen. Anne Boleyn She enjoyed living in luxury, and she always made Henry work for her affection... until... Jane came along. At first, Anne would rebel a little against Henry but that made him less patient. He cheated on her with Jane just as he did with Anne. Anne knew about this but she eventually shut her mouth because she was beginning to feel afraid of Henry because she knew he didn't want her anymore. She snapped at Jane one day because Jane was flaunting a gift Henry had bought her, but that probably only made things worse for her. Jane fell pregnant and Henry was really hoping for a son so he went to work to get rid of Anne. He accused her of treason (cheating on him) and she was beheaded. Anne also loved her daughter very much and she tried to be a good stepmother to Mary but Mary wasn't having it. Anne was intelligent, confident, and levelheaded. Jane Seymour A relative of Anne's. She wasn't well educated, and she was very quiet. She was a good stepmother to both of her stepdaughters. She did subtly brag about her relationship with Henry to Anne but she definitely didn't intend to cause Anne's death. When Jane made mistakes, Henry would remind her of what happened with Anne. Jane was quiet, motherly, and compliant. Anna of Cleaves Anna wasn't raised to be queen, she was raised to be a housewife. She didn't want to leave home but she had no choice. Henry tried to do a cliché thing where he'd accidentally meet her and it'd be love at first sight, but she rejected him. She deeply apologized for it but it was too late. Henry called her ugly because she embarrassed him. Anna was actually extremely beautiful. She was the best stepmother to the kids and extremely kind. She and Henry hardly interacted because it was just too awkward. Henry requested a divorce and it was a pretty good deal for Anna. Knowing what happened to Anne, she accepted. After the divorce, she and Henry became really good friends. Anna was kindhearted, nurturing, and intelligent. Katherine Howard The first relationship was most likely how the musical presented it, being manipulated by a a selfish older man, but the second was not that at all, they actually planned to get married one day. Katherine's aunt found out about the relationship and sent him away, but they still planned to get married when he came back. Then Thomas. She knew Thomas before she became queen, they were going to get married but the marriage was cancelled because Henry wanted to marry her. During the marriage, she didn't cheat. She tried to be a stepmother but Mary hated her because she's younger but her father's wife. Being Anne's cousin, she did better with Elizabeth. Henry didn't know about Katherine's past, but when he found out he was deeply hurt. He also tormented her with Anne's death when she made mistakes. He accused her of treason and she was beheaded. Katherine was bubbly, kind, and optimistic Catherine Parr Ah, this terrible woman. She had many husbands to avoid being ostracized, as the musical says, but she did genuinely love her first husband and the one she planned to marry. She was more like Henry's nurse. Henry was going to behead her at one point because she has different religious beliefs, but she managed to convince him that she was simply challenging his beliefs because debating is fun. She was a good step mother until she wasn't. After Henry's death, Catherine married her Thomas straight away. This upset Mary a lot and they never spoke again. When Elizabeth needed a place to stay, Catherine let Thomas molest her because Catherine was conservative and believed women shouldn't get involved with men's desired (her genuine belief). Catherine eventually got so jealous and frustrated with Elizabeth that she kicked her out (because she genuinely believed it was Elizabeth's fault.) Honestly, this is probably why she never got married. Anyways, Catherine was named after the first Catherine, so that's kinda messed up. She doesn't deserve her traits to be listed
"So you read a bible verse that I'm cursed 'cause I was your brothers wife? You say it's a pity 'cause quoting leviticus I'll end up kiddy-less all my life. Well daddy weren't you there when I gave birth to Mary?" Best part of the song for me!
I didn't know it was "kiddy-less" I thought it was "hideous" and I thought it was "Daddy won't be there when I give birth to Mary" referring to the fact that Mary became bloody Mary and that Henry needed to watch his back
Why why why just why... why haven't I ever heard of this musical and this is just like the best one I have heard so far and I have just listened to the soundtrack so far.. Edit: 1 year later, I have seen it! it was so good 😭😭😭
Henry didn't really make a new religion, more like made his own Church with his own rules so he could legally divorced Aragon without the Pope being up his ass about it
Tried to elope, but the pope said nope. Our only hope was He-ne-ry. He got a promotion, caused a commotion, set in motion: the C of E! The rules were so outdated. Us two wanted to get X-rated. Soon.. excommunicated?! Everybody chill, it's totes gods' will~

When Catherine of Aragon died, she was given the funeral rights of a "dowager princess of Wales," not a queen. Her daughter, Mary I, meant to give her mother a better-looking gravesite but never got around to it. In the Victorian era, a young girl named Katherine made an appeal to the Katherines of England to donate money to erect a better marker to Catherine of Aragon in the church where she was buried. Her grave now reads, "Katherine, Queen of England." Henry may have stripped her title, but a little girl named Katherine made sure it was unofficially restored to her.

When it comes to the wives of Henry VIII, I've always had a soft spot for Catherine of Aragon. That lady put up with **** I could never dream of putting up with and still stuck to her guns to her very last breath. This song was rather cathartic because I could picture Queen Catherine putting Henry in his place. The whole album is on my walking playlist...
Fun/Sad Fact : Mary needed to disown her princess title because of catherine and henry divorce, she needed to work for elizabeth I and refused to call her princess , and she hated anne boleyn because she whas the reason she got separated from her mother ( she only had letter with catherine if i remember :/ )
She was also stripped of all her most praised possessions (jewels, nice dresses etc), if she called herself princess people were allowed to use physical violence against her, she wasn’t allowed to go outside because people still loved her and would cheer for her, servants got scolded over being too nice to her, she was intentionally put in the worst sleeping place, and there were rumors that Henry and Anne were trying to kill her (were those rumors true? Who knows, Mary surely didn’t) and to put the icing on the cake Anne treathend to starve her to death once (she probably didn’t mean it, but still-)
So; this part: 2:48 I think this could've been an actual reference to history. While I was doing some research on Catherine and Anne's relations, it is stated that in May of 1529, when it was being decided whether or not Henry and Catherine's marriage was lawful or not (cuz you know, Henry is trying to annul it), she gets down on her knees and says this: "Sir, I beseech you, for all the loves that hath been between us, and for the love of God, let me have justice and right. Take of me some pity and compassion, for I am a poor woman and stranger born out of your dominion. I have here no assured friend, and much less indifferent counsel. I flee to you as the head of justice within this realm. Alas, Sir, where have I offended you? Or what occasion have you of displeasure, that you intend to put me from you? I take God and all the world to witness that I have been to you a true, humble and obedient wife, ever conformable to your will and pleasure. I have been pleased and contented with all the things wherein you had delight and dalliance. I never grudged a word or countenance, or showed a spark of discontent. I loved all those whom ye loved only for your sake, whether I had cause or no, and whether they were my friends or enemies. This twenty years and more I have been your true wife, and by me ye have had divers children, though it hath pleased God to call them out of this world, which hath been no fault in me. And when ye had me at the first, I take God to be my judge, I was true maid, without touch of man; and whether it be true or no, you put it to your conscience. [ A pause. Then:] If there be any just cause by the law that you can allege against me, either of dishonesty or any other impediment, to put me from you, I am well content to depart, to my shame and dishonour. If there be none, I must lowly beseech you, let me remain in my former estate and receive justice at your princely hands. The King your father was accounted in his day as a second Solomon for wisdom, and my father Ferdinand and was esteemed one of the wisest kinds that had ever reigned in Spain. It is not about them as was thought fit by their high discretion. Also, there were in those days as wise, as learned man, as there are at this present time in both realms, who thought then the marriage between you and me good and lawful. It is a wonder to hear what new inventions are invented against me, who never intended but honesty, that cause me to stand to the order and judgement of this new court, wherein you may do me much wrong, if you intend any cruelty. For ye may condemn me for lack of sufficient answer, having no indifferent counsel. Ye must understand that they cannot be indifferent counsellors which be your subjects, and taken out of your Council beforehand, and dare not, for your displeasure, disobey your will and intent. Therefore, most humbly do I require you, in the way of charity and for the love of God, to spare me the extremity of this court, until I may be advertised what way and order my friends in Spain will advise me to take. And if ye will not extend to me so much favour, your pleasure then be fulfilled, and to God I commit my cause." She gets up and leaves afterwards. Website I got this from: www.theanneboleynfiles.com/anne-boleyn-and-catherine-of-aragon-part-1/ So yeah, don't know if it was referencing this specifically but I still think it's cool.

The whole point of the show is that competition between the queens is unnecessary and that you shouldn't have to insult one in order to compliment another.
“So I’ll be queen to the end of my life” - one of the two (other wife being Jane Seymour) wives of Henry that had ‘Queen of England’ on their tombstone !

Catherine of Aragon
Girl's determined.
Anne Boleyn
She enjoyed living in luxury, and she always made Henry work for her affection...
Jane Seymour
A relative of Anne's.
Anna of Cleaves
Anna wasn't raised to be queen, she was raised to be a housewife.
Katherine Howard
The first relationship was most likely how the musical presented it, being manipulated by a a selfish older man, but the second was not that at all, they actually planned to get married one day. Katherine was bubbly, kind, and optimistic
Catherine Parr
Ah, this terrible woman.
Well daddy weren't you there when I gave birth to Mary?"
Best part of the song for me!
Thank you for the correct lyrics!
I didn't know it was "kiddy-less" I thought it was "hideous" and I thought it was "Daddy won't be there when I give birth to Mary" referring to the fact that Mary became bloody Mary and that Henry needed to watch his back
Also the most replayed area so you can always go back 😫

Imagine wanting to divorce your wife so bad that you create a new religion
Henry didn't really make a new religion, more like made his own Church with his own rules so he could legally divorced Aragon without the Pope being up his ass about it
If you're down bad remember Henry VIII broke with the church for some ass
Tried to elope, but the pope said nope.
Our only hope was He-ne-ry.
He got a promotion, caused a commotion, set in motion: the C of E!
The rules were so outdated.
Us two wanted to get X-rated.

This is one of my favourite songs from the soundtrack! I love it!
Me too. The opening, this one, and the finale are my favorites.
My dad thinks that Aragon had it the worst. I think Howard had it the worst.
Howard, Boleyn, Seymour and Aragon probably had it worst.
@@modernqueen9243 For me it's my beheaded gals but, the musical says we shouldn't compare them.

Okay I just realized, it's about who had the worst from Henry. Either Aragon or Boleyn had it the worse from Henry. Obviously Howard had the worse life.
I think Howard had the worst life, but Aragon had the worst time as a queen

She is awesome! I really wish I could of seen this!
I spent my childhood rapping along to Slim Shady in order to prepare myself to sing along with the Leviticus Verse. Woo!!!
She was the origin of Bloody Mary, right? Cause of her disastrous reign as queen.

So; this part:
2:48
I think this could've been an actual reference to history.
While I was doing some research on Catherine and Anne's relations, it is stated that in May of 1529, when it was being decided whether or not Henry and Catherine's marriage was lawful or not (cuz you know, Henry is trying to annul it), she gets down on her knees and says this:
"Sir, I beseech you, for all the loves that hath been between us, and for the love of God, let me have justice and right.
And if ye will not extend to me so much favour, your pleasure then be fulfilled, and to God I commit my cause."
She gets up and leaves afterwards.
Website I got this from:
www.theanneboleynfiles.com/anne-boleyn-and-catherine-of-aragon-part-1/
So yeah, don't know if it was referencing this specifically but I still think it's cool.
