    Lyrics:
Others: All you wanna do, all you wanna
    do baby...
Howard: I think we can all agree I’m the ten
    amongst these threes
Others: All you wanna do, all you wanna
    do baby...
Howard: And ever since I was child, I’d make
    the boys go wild
Others: All you wanna do, all you wanna
    do baby...
Howard: Take my first music teacher
    Henry Mannox
I was young, it’s true, but even then
    I knew:
The only thing you wanna do is
    kiss ah
    Broad, dark, sexy Mannox
    Taught me all about dynamics
    He was twenty-three
And I was thirteen going on thirty
We spent hours strumming the lute
    Striking the chords and blowing
    the flute
He plucked my strings all the way to G
Went from major to minor, C to D
Tell me what you need, what you want,
    you don’t need to plead
Cos I feel the chemistry, I get you and
    you get me
    And maybe this is it
He just cares so much, it feels legit
    We have a connection
I think this guy is different
Cos all you wanna do, all you wanna
    do babe is
Touch me, love me, can’t get
    enough, see
All you wanna do, all you wanna do
    babe is
Please me, squeeze me, birds and
    the bees me
Run your fingers through my hair
Tell me I’m the fairest of the fair
    All: Playtime’s over
The only thing you wanna do is
    kiss ah
Howard: But then there was another guy,
    Frances Dereham
    Serious, stern and slow
Gets what he wants and he won’t
    Take no

When she was taken into a holding cell, the whole night, she practiced how to lay her head on the block so that it could be a clean cut. An inexperienced axeman was chosen to execute her and he lodged the axe in her back twice before getting her head. And she was only 19. And killed because she was 'damaged goods', from both Henry Mannox and Francis Dereham grooming her. Her story was truly the saddest of them.

"Playtime's over" is such a heartbreaking line to me, because she was still just a (very) young teenager with the first two asswipes, which she (in the song at least) seemed to actively pursue, either from innocence, thinking it was "fun", or because she wanted a lover.
When it gets to Henry, she's older (barely, but still), but still says it, indicating that while she's more of an adult physically, she obviously never grew out of that feeling, never having been able to have a normal childhood.
And when she screams it at the end, after being betrayed by someone she finally trusted, it's like she's talking about her entire life-because her entire life was just made up of these awful men and their awful "playtimes".

    • @anonymouscausewhynot
      @anonymouscausewhynot 3 роки тому +319

Yes, this song has very simple language to show how young she was. It really demonstrates that these.. things were monsters, especially Mannox in my opinion. The line “Taught me all about dynamics” is implying that she though this was normal/okay *because of Mannox.*

meginmd I’m not really gonna do a paragraph about this but it did take some creative license, however she was sexually involved with Mannox at like 12-13 and that will most certainly fuck a kid up. Also her life in general was pretty rough. Her mother died, and her father was basically broke. She grew up in what was basically an orphanage for noble children.

    Lyrics
    All you wanna do
    All you wanna do baby
I think we can all agree I'm a ten amongst these threes
    All you wanna do
    All you wanna do baby
And ever since I was a child I'd make the boys go wild
    All you wanna do
    All you wanna do baby
Take my first music teacher, Henry Mannox
I was young it's true but even then I knew
The only thing you wanna to do is...
    Broad, dark, sexy Mannox
    Taught me all about dynamics
    He was twenty three
And I was thirteen going on thirty
We'd spend hours strumming the lute
Striking the chords and blowing the flute
He plucked my strings all the way to G
Went from major to minor, C to D
    Tell me what you need
What you want, you don't need to plead
    'Cause I feel the chemistry
Like I get you and you get me
    And maybe this is it
He just cares so much it feels legit
    We have a connection
I think this guy is different
    'Cause all you wanna do
    All you wanna do baby
Is touch me, love me, can't get enough, see
    All you wanna do
    All you wanna do baby
Is please me squeeze me birds and the bees me
Run your fingers through my hair
Tell me I'm the fairest of the fair
    Playtime's over
The only thing you wanna do is...
But then there was another guy
    Francis Dereham
    Serious, stern and slow
Get's what he wants and he won't take no
Passion in all that he touches
The sexy secretary to the Dowager Duchess
Helped him in his office, had a duty to fulfil
He even let me use his favourite quill
    Spilled
Ink all over the parchment my wrist was so tired
Still I came back the next day as he required
You say I'm what you need
All you want you don't need to plead
    'Cause I feel the chemistry
Like I get you and you get me
And I know this is it
He just cares so much this one's legit
    We have a real connection
I'm sure this time is different
    'Cause all you wanna do
    All you wanna do baby
Is touch me love me can't get enough see
    All you wanna do
    All you wanna do baby
Is please me, squeeze me, birds and the bees me
You can't wait a second more
    To get
    My corset on the floor
    Playtime's over
The only thing you wanna do is...
    Yeah that didn't work out
So I decided to have a break from boys
And you'll never guess who I met!
    Tall, large, Henry the Eighth
Supreme head of the Church of England
    Globally revered
Although you wouldn't know it from the look of that beard
Made me a lady in waiting
Hurled me and my family up in the world
Gave me duties in court and he swears it's true
That without me he doesn't know what he'd do
You say I'm what you need
All you want we both agree
This is the place for me
I'm finally where I'm meant to be
Then he starts saying all this stuff
He cares so much he calls me love
He says we have this connection
I guess it's not so different
    'Cause all you wanna do
    All you wanna do baby
Is touch me, love me, can't get enough see
    All you wanna do
    All you wanna do baby
Is seize me, squeeze me, birds and the bees me
There's no time for when or how 'cause you
Just got to have me now
    Playtime's over
The only thing you wanna do is...
    So we got married
    Wooh...
    With Henry it isn't easy
His temper's short and his mates are sleazy
    Except for this one courtier
He's a really nice guy, just so sincere
The royal life isn't what I planned
But Thomas is there to lend a helping hand
So sweet, makes sure that I'm okay
And we hang out loads when the king's away
    This guy finally
Is what I want, the friend I need
    Just mates, no chemistry
I get him and he gets me
And there's nothing more to it
He just cares so much he's devoted
He says we have a connection
I thought this time was different
Why did I think he'd be different?
    But it's never, ever different
    'Cause all you wanna do
    All you wanna do baby
Is touch me, when will enough be enough?
    See
    All you wanna do
    All you wanna do baby
Squeeze me, don't care if you don't please me
Bite my lip and pull my hair
As you tell me I'm the fairest of the fair
    Playtime's over
    Playtime's over

    hi girlies
noticed a couple of ppl didn't really notice all the innuendos so allow me to explain EVERY SINGLE ONE (in the verses, we can ignore the bridge/chorus) so u can either sleep in peace? or cry til ya die
    For the Mannox section...
"Taught me all about dynamics": Dynamics refers to basically everything (power dynamics, types of sex, kinks, etc.) In this case, music dynamics means volume. How soft or how loud a piece should be played. I think this could hint towards him forcing her to keep quiet during their sessions so he does not get caught. Otherwise, regarding piano, softness or, I'm gonna say it, hardness of the pressure the keys being played. In other words, "gentle" sex, or "rough" sex.
"And I was thirteen going on thirty": I don't think I need to explain this, but tragically, she was involved with a pedophile.
"We spent hours strumming the lute": Strumming establishes fingering (they never copulated). Cleverly, the lute is an instrument in the shape of an egg. Luteinizing hormone is the ovulation stimulant in females, ovulation turns to pregnancy. You can also look at it like him stealing her virginity, aka looting.
"Striking the chords": Hitting the most arousing spots.
    "And blowing the flute": Blowjob.
"He plucked my strings all the way to G": G-spot; Edit - There's also G-string panties oh my GOD.
"Went from major to minor": Pedophilia.
"C to D": Clit to dick. Assumedly foreplay.
    For the Dereham section...
"Gets what he wants and he won't take no": It seems his sexual advances aren't exactly consensual.
"Passion in all that he touches": Lusty.
"The sexy secretary to the Dowager Duchess": This is something you gotta research to understand. Sexy secretary meant Dereham, Dowager Duchess... Catherine was not the Dowager Duchess, but she was her step-granddaughter. Anyway, they had sex.
"Helped him in his office, had a duty to fulfill": He used her to relieve his sexual desires.
"He even let me use his favorite quill": Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think quill can be used as a sexual term, but it's probably to inconspicuously cover up a sex toy.
"Spilled ink all over the parchment": Ejaculate.
"My wrist was so tired": Handjob.
"Still I came back the next day as he required": It was a daily affair because he was just really horny. Her saying she came back probably adds onto it.
    For Henry...
Okay, I'd say there's a "duty" metaphor here again, but she's implying that sexually, Henry didn't really do anything to her, at least severely until, "He says we have this connection."
Thomas doesn't have anything aside from, "And we hang out loads when the king's away." Whether or not the two were sexually engaged is unknown, but he did have the incentive to sleep with her.

      @sweepasiels 2 роки тому +31

in dereham's section, wouldn't the "favorite quill" line mean his dick tho? since a) he presumably used it often, or rather let her hold it/"use" it when meeting her every day and b) it goes with the next two lines

Every time I hear those two beats at the end of the song when she says "The only thing- the only thing-" I just feel like it's a reference to Katherine's execution. Henry had gotten an inexperienced executioner to behead her with a blunt axe and the executioner missed her neck and hit her in her back... TWICE before she was finally beheaded.
...she wasn't even 20 years old when she died, she was either 17 or 19...

    • @katherinehoward3950

Actually the whole botched execution thing is a myth. While it’s true that Katherine Howard got an axman while Anne Boleyn got a swordsman, Katherine was beheaded with one chop. It was actually Margaret Pole who was executed by an inexperienced axman and had a horrible execution, some accounts say that it took ten blows to kill her while others say eleven. The point is, Katherine Howard had a quick execution that required only one swing of the axe

What makes the Thomas part so heartbreaking for me is that you can't really tell if Thomas was only after her for sex, or if he REALLY DID love Katherine for herself, but her sexual trauma caused her to see him as no different from the other men that raped/seduced her. Katherine really did deserve so much better 😔

Well francis didnt rape her. Francis Dereham wasn't a bad person. Catherine and Francis really did love eachother and exchanged wedding vows before intercourse. Their relationship ended when henry mannox got jealous and sent an anonymous tip about their relationship to the dowager duchess who separated them. (Not knowing they were married because henry left that out) francis left her 100£ before he left to ireland. He would later suffer the same fate as catherine and he was executed by Henry for treason. Everything else in this song is perfect I just felt it painted francis entirely wrong.

    • @CatalinaLinal7710
      @CatalinaLinal7710 2 роки тому +32

It's definitely not as straightforward as people in the comments make it out to be. Hard agree on that.
Kathrin is portrayed as a young girl with no experience in romance, who at the beginning is just going through the normal preteen phase where she develops the desire for romantic/sexual love and wants to explore it.
This is not uncommon and frankly normal, even if the resulting behavior is dangerous and cringy. I myself remember a (pretty pathetic) attempt at I guess one can call it flirting with a 20 something male friend of a cousin of mine when I was between 10-12. At least in my case it happened simply because I had no real control over these newly blooming feelings yet and I just couldn't hold it back. I remember I didn't linger on it (since it kinda just came blurring out of me and I didn't ACTUALLY wanted to make a move on him) and he definitely behaved responsible and kind about it. Unfortunately, one has to say though that I was indeed lucky here.
Kathrins situation is different enough and the actual objective facts of her portrayed situation here should actually be taken properly into concideration, to actually understand what happened to her and learn something legit from it instead of glossing over the context turning it into a blurry (and unhealthy) "never trust any men EVER, they are all the same" message. Which honestly doesn't give the song the proper credit it deserves, because it's nuanced as hell and I love it.
Kathrin was 13 when her music teacher took advantage of her and honestly, no, the "She only wanted a friend" argument holds very little water here. She totally didn't wanted to be friends, she had a crush on him because she basically told him exactly THAT. Denying that she actively made the move here implies that whoever wants to erase that aspect of her story thinks that she wouldn't be as "blameless" as they'd like if it isn't explicitly the man who started the idea of the relationship. Which is complete bullshit. Just because she doesn't fit in the "perfect, blameless victim" trope people wanna force her into doesn't it mean she isn't 100% the victim and the adult guy somehow took less advantage of her inexperienced, underdeveloped feelings.
The details of these kind of story will not always be as black-and-white as one would like them to be, that's what one should use their critical thinking for instead of just rewriting the narrative to what YOU/WE think the victim should be portrayed like. Victim-stories aren't about YOU/US its about this specific victim and their live experiences, get over yourself and take the narrative as it is and work with THAT.
I'll skip the second guy and Henry because I don't have too much to say here. Second guy is a similar case to the first, she very clearly has a crush and is willingly giving herself to another man who takes advantage of her instead of being the responsible adult.
Henry's situation pretty much speaks for itself.
What I hate is when people put the Thomas character in the same category as the other guys who hurt her so much. Because frankly, the actual context of the song isn't directly stating that at all. We only have Kathrins pov of the event and her reaction to him saying "We have a connection" is straight up more of a panicked trauma-reaction than a rational response. That's how trauma works! She cannot be blamed for this being her reaction by instinct because everything in life led her to become like this but that simply doesn't mean that Thomas confessing his feelings is suddenly equal to actual sexual assault. The narrative doesn't tell us that he's much older than her like the other guys but instead gives us the picture of their circumstances with her being in a VERY unhappy marriage and them getting along splendid when her husband is away. Kathrin has every right to only wanting a mate no lover, clearly that's what she needs after all she has been through. But the song is written out of her pov, which simply means she is not a reliable narrator when it comes to certain aspects (She also doesn't need to be, it's a song about her trauma. THAT'S THE POINT). Her point of view of him pulls an EXTREME 180 after she finds out that he has romantic feelings for her, projecting her past experiences of being treated like an sexual object onto him because he wasn't being the friend she wanted/needed him to be. In Kathrins pov "Friend" and "Lover" do not mix whatsoever, doesn't make it the reality of his intentions though. For all she and therefore WE know he WAS just a friend in the beginning but simply developed feelings for her out of their friendship and thought the next step would make her happy too. She was around 18-20 at that point and he is ageless but supposedly around her age. Guys I don't know how to explain to you that 18-20 is absolutely an age where one can take a friendship to the next level. Kathrins past experiences of assault are NOT the normal circumstances one develops their romantic/sexual feelings under. She is actually at an age here where this relationship she formed totally could have led to a happy marriage and life, but the amount of trauma she already had to endure make her unable to see this opportunity as for now. She would have to heal first, but she hasn't been allowed to yet.
I don't know how to end this because I've said alot. Anyway my point is that I definitely agree with you that people refuse to see her situation in the way it is presented, which is not only problematic in itself, it's also one hell of a shame because Kathrins story here is so well done and nuanced, people really don't hive it justice.

@@CatalinaLinal7710 I've never seen the musical so maybe they changed it, but I'm sorry, the real Thomas Culpepper was a scumbag who did indeed confess to planning to sleep with Katherine even though none of her letters to him ever indicated any romantic interest on her end. He wasn't a healthy relationship, he was another jerk who wanted to use her.

    All you wanna do
    All you wanna do, baby
I think we can all agree I'm a ten amongst these threes
    All you wanna do
    All you wanna do, baby
And ever since I was a child I'd make the boys go wild
    All you wanna do
    All you wanna do, baby
Take my first music teacher, Henry Mannox
I was young it's true but even then I knew
The only thing you wanna to do is...
    Broad, dark, sexy Mannox
    Taught me all about dynamics
    He was 23
    And I was 13 going on 30
We'd spend hours strumming the lute
Striking the chords and blowing the flute
He plucked my strings all the way to G
Went from major to minor, C to D
    Tell me what you need
What you want, you don't need to plead
    'Cause I feel the chemistry
Like I get you and you get me
    And maybe this is it
He just cares so much, it feels legit
    We have a connection
I think this guy is different
    'Cause all you wanna do
    All you wanna do, baby
Is touch me, love me, can't get enough, see
    All you wanna do
    All you wanna do, baby
Is please me, squeeze me, birds and the bees me
Run your fingers through my hair
Tell me, I'm the fairest of the fair
    Playtime's over
The only thing you wanna do is...
But then there was another guy
    Francis Dereham
    Serious, stern and slow
Gets what he wants and he won't take no
Passion in all that he touches
The sexy secretary to the Dowager Duchess
Helped him in his office, had a duty to fulfil
He even let me use his favourite quill
Spilled ink all over the parchment, my wrist was so tired
Still I came back the next day as he required
You say I'm what you need
All you want, you don't need to plead
    'Cause I feel the chemistry
Like I get you and you get me
And I know this is it
He just cares so much, this one's legit
    We have a real connection
I'm sure this time is different
    'Cause all you wanna do
    All you wanna do, baby
Is touch me, love me, can't get enough see
    All you wanna do
    All you wanna do, baby
Is please me, squeeze me, birds and the bees me
You can't wait a second more to get
    My corset on the floor
    Playtime's over
The only thing you wanna do is...
    Yeah, that didn't work out
So I decided to have a break from boys
And you'll never guess who I met
    Tall, large, Henry the Eighth
Supreme head of the Church of England
    Globally revered
Although you wouldn't know it from the look of that beard
Made me a lady in waiting
Hurled me and my family up in the world
Gave me duties in court and he swears it's true
That without me, he doesn't know what he'd do
You say I'm what you need
All you want, we both agree
This is the place for me
I'm finally where I'm meant to be
Then he starts saying all this stuff
He cares so much, he calls me love
He says we have this connection
I guess it's not so different
    'Cause all you wanna do
    All you wanna do, baby
Is touch me, love me, can't get enough, see
    All you wanna do
    All you wanna do, baby
Is seize me, squeeze me, birds and the bees me
There's no time for when or how 'cause you
Just got to have me now
    Playtime's over
The only thing you wanna do is...
    So we got married
    Woo
    With Henry it isn't easy
His temper's short and his mates are sleazy
    Except for this one courtier
He's a really nice guy, just so sincere
The royal life isn't what I planned
But Thomas is there to lend a helping hand
So sweet, makes sure that I'm okay
And we hang out loads when the King's away
    This guy finally
Is what I want, the friend I need
    Just mates, no chemistry
I get him and he gets me
And there's nothing more to it
He just cares so much, he's devoted
He says we have a connection
I thought this time was different
Why did I think he'd be different?
    But it's never, ever different
    'Cause all you wanna do
    All you wanna do, baby
Is touch me, when will enough be enough?
    See
    All you wanna do
    All you wanna do, baby
Squeeze me, don't care if you don't please me
Bite my lip and pull my hair
As you tell me I'm the fairest of the fair
    Playtime's over
    Playtime's over
    Playtime's over
    The only thing
    The only thing
The only thing you wanna do is...

Probably my fav song in the entire musical. The musical itself is good, but this is just so dark. I mean just listen to the lyrics “all you wanna do baby is touch me, love me, can’t get enoughsie” I mean poor woman had a horrible life. She lived to freaking like 17 - 19 or something I forgot. But man, it’s horrible that this kind of stuff still happens to people out there. She easily won the competition in six. But man this song is good and catchy but sad.

I think this song really shows the "dark side" of being attractive. Yes, you definitely get attention, even from a young age. Eventually, though, you realize that people never come to you without ulterior motives. Instead, they only seek their own pleasure and satisfaction, no matter if you get hurt in the process. Definitely takes a toll.
