"Playtime's over" is such a heartbreaking line to me, because she was still just a (very) young teenager with the first two asswipes, which she (in the song at least) seemed to actively pursue, either from innocence, thinking it was "fun", or because she wanted a lover. When it gets to Henry, she's older (barely, but still), but still says it, indicating that while she's more of an adult physically, she obviously never grew out of that feeling, never having been able to have a normal childhood. And when she screams it at the end, after being betrayed by someone she finally trusted, it's like she's talking about her entire life-because her entire life was just made up of these awful men and their awful "playtimes".
Yes, this song has very simple language to show how young she was. It really demonstrates that these.. things were monsters, especially Mannox in my opinion. The line “Taught me all about dynamics” is implying that she though this was normal/okay *because of Mannox.*
@@River_Does_Stuff_Art nope it’s playtime’s over Becuse as again she was young and at the end of the song it’s more haunting more then ever Becuse it was the end for her and yet nobody stopped Thomas from betraying her nobody stopped Henry manix from being a bastard nobody stopped Henry the 8th from doing this to her in fact nobody bloody warned her and tired to stop the men and yet the poor girl was left to get hit with the realization on her own tbh I can’t even comprehend what she felt during her last hours
Because it's completely wrong to her life? Do yourself a favor and read "Young, Damned, and Fair." You'll see that this song's notion of Katherine as some moldable, no opinions of her own idiot is completely wrong.
meginmd I’m not really gonna do a paragraph about this but it did take some creative license, however she was sexually involved with Mannox at like 12-13 and that will most certainly fuck a kid up. Also her life in general was pretty rough. Her mother died, and her father was basically broke. She grew up in what was basically an orphanage for noble children.
@meginmind you do have to keep in mind works like this take creative spins on things like this. hamilton is another example. its not meant to completely mirror the real history. its a work of historical fiction.
Alice Walls it is but it is something I don’t think people want think about so ignore it but the thought that all that is happening in most of the song is so bad is in the back of there hair

When she was taken into a holding cell, the whole night, she practiced how to lay her head on the block so that it could be a clean cut. An inexperienced axeman was chosen to execute her and he lodged the axe in her back twice before getting her head. And she was only 19. And killed because she was 'damaged goods', from both Henry Mannox and Francis Dereham grooming her. Her story was truly the saddest of them.
@@mshilton oh really? Thanks. I can use that for my report. Do you have a reference a can use? Also fun fact: I’m related to Mary of Scotts!! That’s why I chose her for the report
If you listen at 2:22 with headphones you can hear a slight whisper of "the next day as he required" in your left ear. It really adds to the vibe and I'm loving it!
some of the wording in this song shows just how young she was when she died she was only 17-20 when she was killed. (edit: Thanks so much for all the likes!)
Ok based of the replies to this, theres clearly soen confusion about when she died. So for now, let's just say she was in between the ages of 17-22 when she died and we dont know her exact death age ok? Cool
The girl just wanted a real friend, when she finally thought she had one, the “friend” thought she wanted to have a relationship with him and her husband thought that too, the “friend” got her killed
The fact that I and a lot of other girls relate to this kinda makes you realise that some of the things ppl went through hundreds of years ago still happens today.
When it gets closer to the end you realise that she just wanted a friend but she was so young to know that they didn't want to be her friend they just wanted to use her 😔
if you listen with headphones and listen carefully between phrases, can anyone else hear an echo? it's almost like it's referencing the future/past verses and choruses because they all end in the same way.
Oh is that why she told Thomas Culpeper that she loved him? That they planned to consummate their relationship but Katherine was arrested before they could?
I think the use of “birds and the bees me” adds to the scary reality of her being a literally teenager/young adult when all this happened. She would’ve been so innocent and would truly believe each time that that “love” was true and sincere.
She’s so obviously a teen falling in “ love” for the first time. “This is legit and real connection “ are spoken with true excitement of a naive girl. She was influenced by these men as she nears the end of the song she realizes that these men never loves her.
The happy way she talks about Thomas at first just breaks my heart- “So sweet, makes sure that I’m okay” And then how she realizes that Thomas doesn’t want to be her friend and she says “It’s never, ever different” It just breaks my heart. She didn’t deserve all this suffering, she was so young.
For y’all who say Catherine deserved her fate, she didn’t. She had a rough childhood and she never got to fully experience life. For those who say Culpepper and Dereham deserved their death, Culpepper did commit crimes but not very serious ones and Dereham had literally no impact on the king. Henry was sick and twisted, nobody ever deserved it.
I forget which one but one of those men literally molested young girls. Repeatedly…. Him and a few other men had keys to the chamber where all the girls slept. I don’t mind him dying as much haha
But didn't Culpepper technically r*pe and also kill the person who was gonna save his victim? I remember reading about that somewhere. Idk History from like 500 years ago, especially with individuals whose lives are still a mystery to us is very confusing
Culpeper did nothing serious. Yeah, right, because raping a woman and killing her husband is nothing serious. Henry VIII himself called his actions a "joke", fogave him and decided that he would not have to pay for it. But it's not the 17th century anymore so stop sympathising with abusers and shitting on the souls of their victims please.
i know more about catherine howard than i’m ever gonna need to know and honestly it’s got to the point where i cry just thinking about her, like even after her death she was treated like shit - unmarked grave, paintings of her thrown away by her own family out of shame so historians don’t even know for sure what she looked like (the ONLY one of henry’s wives to not have a confirmed portrait) and was just a name to a number in basically every history school syllabus
@@Firestorm214 Honestly that’s true. I feel so bad for Catherine of Aragon as well, her husband of 24 years just threw her out like she wasn’t worth anything and she wasn’t even allowed contact with her daughter. She was treated awfully.
People treated Katherine like she was just some toy, but she wasn't! She was a child who wanted friends, she loved doggies, and she wanted to learn things. The evil people took her childhood away from her and made her grow up too fast. I hope she's having a good time in Heaven. Rest In Peace Katherine Howard. Catherine A. Anne B. Jane S. Anne C. Katherine H. Catherine P. The six of you, Rest in Peace.
She loved dogs?? This fact is so endearing and also so sad to me. I can't believe so many disgusting, vile, evil men or monsters, would take away her innocence and her life from her. I hope she's resting in peace now.
I feel like no one talks about the lyric "and I was 13 going on 30". She was clearly groomed by these men, and the lyric "Going on 30" shows how she's been told how mature she is, which is a common grooming tactic
@@applejewel7730 It wasn't common at all for teenagers to marry adults, which is a good thing. @Quéssia Nafilo I think the line is I am 13 going on 30 because she acted much older than she really was. but that's just what I think I am probably wrong.
Sister: Why are you crying because of an upbeat song? Me: Um, excuse me, were you not listening to the song? There were four choruses, that’s how much sh… I had to deal with.
I just noticed that the music is kinda upbeat and fast bc her life did not last long/all these events happened so quickly in her life... maybe thats y tho idk for sure
It's also reminiscent of a lot of song released by over sexualized young artists. Ariana Grande, Brittany Spears, etc. They were also sexualized from a very young age and released music that was popular, catchy, and had a "sexy" beat. It adds to the idea that there's more to her story than just the promiscuous princess.
I'm new here and the song is a bop but I don't understand the whole thing going on here? I think someone in the comment said something sad and painful in this song telling us about her stories. Could you tell me more about it? Is there a movie telling us stories about this?
@@legendsofweebtopia7699 its about one of Henry's wives (the 8th king) and here is his 5th wife Katherine who was abused and manipulated by men in her entire life and died around the age of 17-18. Btw its a musical
@@gabriellelamy6370 It's actually much, much worse. From something I read, it said that she asked for the chopping block to be brought to her cell so that she could practice how to lay her head.
When I saw this live the actress playing Catherine really upped the emotion the lyrics convey as it went along, to the point that she sounded outright horrified and broken by the end. When it was over the audience was applauding like crazy, but you could tell it was this mix of "well that was devastating and I feel kind of bad cheering this...but...she did crush it though...yaaaaaay?"
hi girlies noticed a couple of ppl didn't really notice all the innuendos so allow me to explain EVERY SINGLE ONE (in the verses, we can ignore the bridge/chorus) so u can either sleep in peace? or cry til ya die For the Mannox section... "Taught me all about dynamics": Dynamics refers to basically everything (power dynamics, types of sex, kinks, etc.) In this case, music dynamics means volume. How soft or how loud a piece should be played. I think this could hint towards him forcing her to keep quiet during their sessions so he does not get caught. Otherwise, regarding piano, softness or, I'm gonna say it, hardness of the pressure the keys being played. In other words, "gentle" sex, or "rough" sex. "And I was thirteen going on thirty": I don't think I need to explain this, but tragically, she was involved with a pedophile. "We spent hours strumming the lute": Strumming establishes fingering (they never copulated). Cleverly, the lute is an instrument in the shape of an egg. Luteinizing hormone is the ovulation stimulant in females, ovulation turns to pregnancy. You can also look at it like him stealing her virginity, aka looting. "Striking the chords": Hitting the most arousing spots. "And blowing the flute": Blowjob. "He plucked my strings all the way to G": G-spot; Edit - There's also G-string panties oh my GOD. "Went from major to minor": Pedophilia. "C to D": Clit to dick. Assumedly foreplay. For the Dereham section... "Gets what he wants and he won't take no": It seems his sexual advances aren't exactly consensual. "Passion in all that he touches": Lusty. "The sexy secretary to the Dowager Duchess": This is something you gotta research to understand. Sexy secretary meant Dereham, Dowager Duchess... Catherine was not the Dowager Duchess, but she was her step-granddaughter. Anyway, they had sex. "Helped him in his office, had a duty to fulfill": He used her to relieve his sexual desires. "He even let me use his favorite quill": Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think quill can be used as a sexual term, but it's probably to inconspicuously cover up a sex toy. "Spilled ink all over the parchment": Ejaculate. "My wrist was so tired": Handjob. "Still I came back the next day as he required": It was a daily affair because he was just really horny. Her saying she came back probably adds onto it. For Henry... Okay, I'd say there's a "duty" metaphor here again, but she's implying that sexually, Henry didn't really do anything to her, at least severely until, "He says we have this connection." Thomas doesn't have anything aside from, "And we hang out loads when the king's away." Whether or not the two were sexually engaged is unknown, but he did have the incentive to sleep with her.
in dereham's section, wouldn't the "favorite quill" line mean his dick tho? since a) he presumably used it often, or rather let her hold it/"use" it when meeting her every day and b) it goes with the next two lines
I think that in thomas part...which I'm not sure if is actually his part but it goes "don't care if you don't please me" makes it sound like thomas raped her since she didn't want anything with her but idk
@@kentucky_fc my comment is only abt the verses! i figured everyone would get all the implications in the chorus, but i felt that a lot flew by people's head while she was talking abt these men, originally myself included LOL
at the thomas but it also says, don’t care if you please me so it could be a reference to r@pe and when it says pull my hair it sounds like thomas was violent
I find it cute that Aimie and Genesis are dating, cause I'd love to imagine that in their own world in which they never got with Henry they end up falling in love with each other. What I mean by that is that, in the universe in which they never got married to Henry, Howard and Cleeves could've met somehow and they would've fallen in love with each other.
When Howard met Henry she was actually in the household of Cleeves so they did know each other and in an alternate universe if Henry hadn't been there they could have fallen in love.
In my opinion the saddest part of the song is never talked about. She goes from saying "I think this GUY is different" to "I think this TIME is different".
I saw a post, and instead of: *Broad, dark, sexy Mannox* It was: *Broad, dark, sexy magnets* And now thats all I hear- (Edit: Thanks for so many likes :000)
looking back, this song was a lot deeper than i first thought it to be. i completely looked past the innuendos and the ending where katherine howard broke down, i dont know how i did not catch on.
I just realized something, during Henry and Thomas’s choruses, you can hear electronic sirens. I think those are representing that she (Catherine) is going to be in danger soon, i guess its a form of foreshadowing.Clever.
It’s basically a musical of a very popular time in English history, There was this king called Henry who wanted a son to take his place when he dies so he keeps trying for a son and he ended up with 6 wives all punished in different ways.
What makes the Thomas part so heartbreaking for me is that you can't really tell if Thomas was only after her for sex, or if he REALLY DID love Katherine for herself, but her sexual trauma caused her to see him as no different from the other men that raped/seduced her. Katherine really did deserve so much better 😔
Well francis didnt rape her. Francis Dereham wasn't a bad person. Catherine and Francis really did love eachother and exchanged wedding vows before intercourse. Their relationship ended when henry mannox got jealous and sent an anonymous tip about their relationship to the dowager duchess who separated them. (Not knowing they were married because henry left that out) francis left her 100£ before he left to ireland. He would later suffer the same fate as catherine and he was executed by Henry for treason. Everything else in this song is perfect I just felt it painted francis entirely wrong.

This song is so relatable. I had something similar happen to me. You can hear the frustration building and building because she's not getting the real connection that she so craves.
The theory (told to me at Hampton Court years ago by a historian there) is she tried to get away when whoever locked her up confronted her to get to Henry because she claimed she was raped
All of the wives have awful stories, but Katherine was groomed and used all of her life. The moment she met Henry, her fate was sealed and the things done to her in the past were used to sign her death warrant. I hope she's resting in peace :(
Not really cause of the risks but ye I love history too, the Tudor era is my absolute favourite, apart from the gruesome fates and stuff but yeah XD what about u? :)
Literally one of the only showtunes that have brought me to tears. When I first listened to this a couple years back I was a mess in the car. Still an absolute banger though
I was just listening to this song on Spotify and then I saw this! Truly an unexpected & wonderful surprise!! I just love Aimie’s voice soooo much, I can stream this all day XD
I love the the Pre-Chorus of the song. The instrumental to the Pre-Chorus has these really sweet bells that sound so nice to my ears in collaboration with the rest of the song.
I think this song really shows the "dark side" of being attractive. Yes, you definitely get attention, even from a young age. Eventually, though, you realize that people never come to you without ulterior motives. Instead, they only seek their own pleasure and satisfaction, no matter if you get hurt in the process. Definitely takes a toll.
The line at the begining, about "Even then I knew" is tragic when you learn that there are theories that she was abused from even younger than 13 while under the care of The Dowager Duchess Agnes Howard (Her fathers stepmother). In the Dowager Duchess's household, Catherine became influenced by some older girls under her grandmother's care who allowed men into the sleeping areas at night.
I'm just here to appreciate how the fourth chorus imitates the first so closely while being more obvious with the kind of manipulation and abuse that's happening. Love how one simple trick shows how her naivete died over time, and how much she's normalized and accepted the kind of shitty treatment that the men in her life gave her.
The fact this song is the longest in the soundtrack.. Gives me chills and and it really makes my spine shiver if you actually pretend your in it. It's so sad she died at 18.

When it gets to Henry, she's older (barely, but still), but still says it, indicating that while she's more of an adult physically, she obviously never grew out of that feeling, never having been able to have a normal childhood.

Also her life in general was pretty rough. Her mother died, and her father was basically broke. She grew up in what was basically an orphanage for noble children.
meginmd no matter how strong a child is they won’t take too well a sexual relationship with an adult lmao
@meginmind you do have to keep in mind works like this take creative spins on things like this. hamilton is another example. its not meant to completely mirror the real history. its a work of historical fiction.

When she was taken into a holding cell, the whole night, she practiced how to lay her head on the block so that it could be a clean cut. An inexperienced axeman was chosen to execute her and he lodged the axe in her back twice before getting her head. And she was only 19.
Idk
History from like 500 years ago, especially with individuals whose lives are still a mystery to us is very confusing
Culpeper did nothing serious. Yeah, right, because raping a woman and killing her husband is nothing serious. All you wanna do
All you wanna do baby
And ever since I was a child I'd make the boys go wild
All you wanna do
All you wanna do baby
Take my first music teacher, Henry Mannox
I was young it's true but even then I knew
The only thing you wanna to do is...
Broad, dark, sexy Mannox
Taught me all about dynamics
He was twenty three
And I was thirteen going on thirty
We'd spend hours strumming the lute
Striking the chords and blowing the flute
He plucked my strings all the way to G
Went from major to minor, C to D
Tell me what you need
What you want, you don't need to plead
'Cause I feel the chemistry
Like I get you and you get me
And maybe this is it
He just cares so much it feels legit
We have a connection
I think this guy is different
'Cause all you wanna do
All you wanna do baby
Is touch me, love me, can't get enough, see
All you wanna do
All you wanna do baby
Is please me squeeze me birds and the bees me
Run your fingers through my hair
Tell me I'm the fairest of the fair
Playtime's over
The only thing you wanna do is...
But then there was another guy
Francis Dereham
Serious, stern and slow
Get's what he wants and he won't take no
Passion in all that he touches
The sexy secretary to the Dowager Duchess
Helped him in his office, had a duty to fulfil
He even let me use his favourite quill
Spilled
Ink all over the parchment my wrist was so tired
Still I came back the next day as he required
You say I'm what you need
All you want you don't need to plead
'Cause I feel the chemistry
Like I get you and you get me
And I know this is it
He just cares so much this one's legit
We have a real connection
I'm sure this time is different
'Cause all you wanna do
All you wanna do baby
Is touch me love me can't get enough see
All you wanna do
All you wanna do baby
Is please me, squeeze me, birds and the bees me
You can't wait a second more
To get
My corset on the floor
Playtime's over
The only thing you wanna do is...
Yeah that didn't work out
So I decided to have a break from boys
And you'll never guess who I met!
Tall, large, Henry the Eighth
Supreme head of the Church of England
Globally revered
Although you wouldn't know it from the look of that beard
Made me a lady in waiting
Hurled me and my family up in the world
Gave me duties in court and he swears it's true
That without me he doesn't know what he'd do
You say I'm what you need
All you want we both agree
This is the place for me
I'm finally where I'm meant to be
Then he starts saying all this stuff
He cares so much he calls me love
He says we have this connection
I guess it's not so different
'Cause all you wanna do
All you wanna do baby
Is touch me, love me, can't get enough see
All you wanna do
All you wanna do baby
Is seize me, squeeze me, birds and the bees me
There's no time for when or how 'cause you
Just got to have me now
Playtime's over
The only thing you wanna do is...
So we got married
Wooh...
With Henry it isn't easy
His temper's short and his mates are sleazy
Except for this one courtier
He's a really nice guy, just so sincere
The royal life isn't what I planned
But Thomas is there to lend a helping hand
So sweet, makes sure that I'm okay
And we hang out loads when the king's away
This guy finally
Is what I want, the friend I need
Just mates, no chemistry
I get him and he gets me
And there's nothing more to it
He just cares so much he's devoted
He says we have a connection
I thought this time was different
Why did I think he'd be different?
But it's never, ever different
'Cause all you wanna do
All you wanna do baby
Is touch me, when will enough be enough?
See
All you wanna do
All you wanna do baby
Squeeze me, don't care if you don't please me
Bite my lip and pull my hair

Oh my....
hi girlies
noticed a couple of ppl didn't really notice all the innuendos so allow me to explain EVERY SINGLE ONE (in the verses, we can ignore the bridge/chorus) so u can either sleep in peace? or cry til ya die
For the Mannox section...
Okay, I'd say there's a "duty" metaphor here again, but she's implying that sexually, Henry didn't really do anything to her, at least severely until, "He says we have this connection."
Thomas doesn't have anything aside from, "And we hang out loads when the king's away." Whether or not the two were sexually engaged is unknown, but he did have the incentive to sleep with her.
in dereham's section, wouldn't the "favorite quill" line mean his dick tho? since a) he presumably used it often, or rather let her hold it/"use" it when meeting her every day and b) it goes with the next two lines
*o* *h*
at the thomas but it also says, don’t care if you please me so it could be a reference to r@pe and when it says pull my hair it sounds like thomas was violent
I didn’t know that and that’s so cute!
thank you for letting me know this adorable fact
When Howard met Henry she was actually in the household of Cleeves so they did know each other and in an alternate universe if Henry hadn't been there they could have fallen in love.

I watched like a little bit of it so I’m kinda with you
When I said a little bit I meant 40 minutes of it so yeah
It’s basically a musical of a very popular time in English history, There was this king called Henry who wanted a son to take his place when he dies so he keeps trying for a son and he ended up with 6 wives all punished in different ways.
Same tbh. I know like,,, 2 songs and thats it
Is it bad that I am obsessed with this song not for the subject but the singer voice is so pretty but I still feel bad for listening to it constantly
No it’s fine, listen to my song as much as you want ;)
@@KHowardishereandthefunsbegun You poor thing. You deserved better.
Every “we have a real connection” sounds more and more sad, you can hear how much she just wants a friend
Also MAJOR to MINOR (age difference) C to D (um… c*nt ((female genitalia 👀)) and d*ck ((you know that one)) so…)
What makes the Thomas part so heartbreaking for me is that you can't really tell if Thomas was only after her for sex, or if he REALLY DID love Katherine for herself, but her sexual trauma caused her to see him as no different from the other men that raped/seduced her.
@@robertoorrego4374 how do you know that ?! She was so young I don't think you understand the seriousness of this issue that women go through and men go through .
@@brookiesykes5216 research. It's not that difficult to read a Wikipedia page. It takes a while but the knowledge is worth it. Also I don't think you understand the times back then. Women matured much earlier than they do now. So while it seems incomprehensible by today's standards that was relatively normal then. And to judge this properly you have to use the societal standards of then instead of now to properly grasp the situation.

Oh my god, I realized something horrifying that just flew over my head the first... uh... many times.
After she meets Henry, "He says without me, he doesn't know what he'd *_do._* "
It seems really obvious in hindsight, but that literally didn't register until just now.

This song is so relatable. I had something similar happen to me. You can hear the frustration building and building because she's not getting the real connection that she so craves.
The sirens in the last chorus are so symbolic of the abuse, red flags, and trauma that KH went through as she finally realises
The theory (told to me at Hampton Court years ago by a historian there) is she tried to get away when whoever locked her up confronted her to get to Henry because she claimed she was raped
I don’t think I’ve ever gotten this sad while listening to an upbeat sounding song
108 dislikes? How many accounts does Henry own?!
He's the king, he can command everyone to dislike, he only needs 2 accounts
He got 191 people to dislike >:(
Classic Henry. Doing shitty things from beyond the grave ✋🙄

All of the wives have awful stories, but Katherine was groomed and used all of her life. The moment she met Henry, her fate was sealed and the things done to her in the past were used to sign her death warrant. I hope she's resting in peace :(
my new favorite passtime is listening to Six songs while reading really long comments that explain the small details in the song
Hey im doing that rn
as someone who absolutely loves history I can't just ugh y'all ever wanna go back in time and protect her cause like
Not really cause of the risks but ye I love history too, the Tudor era is my absolute favourite, apart from the gruesome fates and stuff but yeah XD what about u? :)
I wanna go back, and give her a hug and tell her she's not alone
I haven't listened to this song in for ever and I still know the lyrics that's how much of a banger this is
*for forever
Her voice and the beat: 💞😊😇
The meaning: 💀👹🔪
my eyes are literally watering. I feel so bad for katherine :(((
this song is so upbeat but it's so sad T_T
Honestly, this is the saddest song, which makes the way it was written more amazing. Poor Katherine Howard.
Growing older and maturer has made me realised how deep the meaning of this song is 💀
Aimie's voice is so wonderful! I can't get enough of her! 😍
I watched the broadway version of this, how raw her voice gets in the end is incredibly sad, you can hear a sob to it even more clearly.
Indeed. Poor Katherine. She deserved better.
Literally one of the only showtunes that have brought me to tears. When I first listened to this a couple years back I was a mess in the car. Still an absolute banger though
Jesus loves u ♡ get well soon!
Honestly this song is better when performed live, there's more emotion put into it
Ikr
Factos!
Especially sam pauly’s version!
this song SLAPS 😫👏🏻
I'm just here to appreciate how the fourth chorus imitates the first so closely while being more obvious with the kind of manipulation and abuse that's happening. Love how one simple trick shows how her naivete died over time, and how much she's normalized and accepted the kind of shitty treatment that the men in her life gave her.
The fact this song is the longest in the soundtrack.. Gives me chills and and it really makes my spine shiver if you actually pretend your in it. It's so sad she died at 18.

@I am here ! Hello there
Explain plz I don’t get it
All you wanna do
All you wanna do, baby
I think we can all agree I'm a ten amongst these threes
All you wanna do
All you wanna do, baby
And ever since I was a child I'd make the boys go wild
All you wanna do
All you wanna do, baby
Take my first music teacher, Henry Mannox
I was young it's true but even then I knew
The only thing you wanna to do is...
Broad, dark, sexy Mannox
Taught me all about dynamics
He was 23
And I was 13 going on 30
We'd spend hours strumming the lute
Striking the chords and blowing the flute
He plucked my strings all the way to G
Went from major to minor, C to D
Tell me what you need
What you want, you don't need to plead
'Cause I feel the chemistry
Like I get you and you get me
And maybe this is it
He just cares so much, it feels legit
We have a connection
I think this guy is different
'Cause all you wanna do
All you wanna do, baby
Is touch me, love me, can't get enough, see
All you wanna do
All you wanna do, baby
Is please me, squeeze me, birds and the bees me
Run your fingers through my hair
Tell me, I'm the fairest of the fair
Playtime's over
The only thing you wanna do is...
But then there was another guy
Francis Dereham
Serious, stern and slow
Gets what he wants and he won't take no
Passion in all that he touches
The sexy secretary to the Dowager Duchess
Helped him in his office, had a duty to fulfil
He even let me use his favourite quill
Spilled ink all over the parchment, my wrist was so tired
Still I came back the next day as he required
You say I'm what you need
All you want, you don't need to plead
'Cause I feel the chemistry
Like I get you and you get me
And I know this is it
He just cares so much, this one's legit
We have a real connection
I'm sure this time is different
'Cause all you wanna do
All you wanna do, baby
Is touch me, love me, can't get enough see
All you wanna do
All you wanna do, baby
Is please me, squeeze me, birds and the bees me
You can't wait a second more to get
My corset on the floor
Playtime's over
The only thing you wanna do is...
Yeah, that didn't work out
So I decided to have a break from boys
And you'll never guess who I met
Tall, large, Henry the Eighth
Supreme head of the Church of England
Globally revered
Although you wouldn't know it from the look of that beard
Made me a lady in waiting
Hurled me and my family up in the world
Gave me duties in court and he swears it's true
That without me, he doesn't know what he'd do
You say I'm what you need
All you want, we both agree
This is the place for me
I'm finally where I'm meant to be
Then he starts saying all this stuff
He cares so much, he calls me love
He says we have this connection
I guess it's not so different
'Cause all you wanna do
All you wanna do, baby
Is touch me, love me, can't get enough, see
All you wanna do
All you wanna do, baby
Is seize me, squeeze me, birds and the bees me
There's no time for when or how 'cause you
Just got to have me now
Playtime's over
The only thing you wanna do is...
So we got married
Woo
With Henry it isn't easy
His temper's short and his mates are sleazy
Except for this one courtier
He's a really nice guy, just so sincere
The royal life isn't what I planned
But Thomas is there to lend a helping hand
So sweet, makes sure that I'm okay
And we hang out loads when the King's away
This guy finally
Is what I want, the friend I need
Just mates, no chemistry
I get him and he gets me
And there's nothing more to it
He just cares so much, he's devoted
He says we have a connection
I thought this time was different
Why did I think he'd be different?
But it's never, ever different
'Cause all you wanna do
All you wanna do, baby
Is touch me, when will enough be enough?
See
All you wanna do
All you wanna do, baby
Squeeze me, don't care if you don't please me
Bite my lip and pull my hair
As you tell me I'm the fairest of the fair
Playtime's over
Playtime's over
Playtime's over
The only thing
The only thing
The only thing you wanna do is...
Thx

This is a song that hits differently when you really listen to it.
I like how during the dynamics part, it actually does a dynamic with a crescendo in the backround, also whenever an instrument was mentioned you can hear it in the background!
Man this song really makes me want to cry, like the song is awesome but man these lyrics hit my heart! 😶😭🥺
if you listen with headphones, after “and blowing the flute” you can hear a little tune in your left ear. i’ve only listened with headphones so idk if it is there without, but i find it rlly cool
Yeah it’s there without headphones I think it’s cool too!
THE QUALITY OMG.... IS SO FANTASTIC 😍😍😍😍
as a child sexual abuse victim this song is really symbolic for me. with grooming, you don’t know what happening until it’s too late. you think they love you or that you finally have someone to trust after past experiences then you realize “oh. it’s not different. they’re the same”. it’s something heartbreaking i’ve been through so many times and i can’t count it with two hands

Update needed: do you still have a head?
There are so many suggestive comments in this song
It’s about sexual abuse that’s why
@@dangopop Yeah but I’m talking about how smart the word play is
@@dangopop actually it's that, manipulation, and pedophilia,
I relate so much to this song- I’ve been sexualized since I was 10. My freshman year is was sa-ed by a senior and No one cared. Her just being fed up with it and angry at the end is me rn
I am sorry you've been through all of that. You are valuable, and you do not deserve to be treated that way. You deserve so much better, and I hope you find that. Praying for you.

I love this musical
i belt this song so much- i dont even know
"all you wanna do baby is please me, squeeze me, *birds and the bees me* " it took me some time to realize that this last line sounds way too much as "abuse me"...
It is
the first time I heard the song I thought it was go and abuse me tbh
It could also be heard as "bruise/use and abuse me" but I dunno
There are dark innuendos behind those lyrics, you really do feel bad for her.
...and dang she can belt, riff, and wail! There is a passion that really comes across!
Gave me so many chills!
Me at the start: the beat is amazing!
Me at the middle: hold up...
Me at the end: ... FBI? Yes, I like to report a crime. Henry the 8th?
You'd also need to call them on Henry Mannox, Francis Dereham, and Thomas Culpeper. Especially the former two.
