that was actually a pretty good sounding idea for designing courses. start with a simple recognizable shape, and not a bunch of squiggles that somehow loop.
That is quite the sussy layout I must say 😳 Seriously tho nice job on the track! It's nice to see that you enjoyed and showed the process too, I love seeing the design philosophy behind what people do. I'm glad my tutorial series helped you out, and thanks for the shout-out!
@@JettLee Indeed! Funnily enough the series is somewhat outdated already, as tools have changed a lot since then, but it still works well for anyone looking to mod MKDS. :)
some correction the maximum tri count doesnt really exist since the ds renders quads too and it can unload them if they are not on screen. in fact some CTGPN course have more than 2048 tris. the texture issue is (AFAIK) due to having a texture file too big that corrupts vram (not exactly because the tex is 256*256) still good vid
No problem! My goal is to pretty much present game design / modding as something less intimidating, and to inspire others to join in on the fun, because believe me, I know how intimidating it could be :)
This is pretty cool; I've tried making custom characters when I had less blender knowledge but that obviously didn't go so well. Now that I know a thing or two about modeling from scratch and optimization, I've been making characters for a Double Dash hack. Ironically, even though it's a bigger game than MKDS, it's easier for me to make custom characters for. If I ever get it done one of these days I'm definitely hooking my Wii backup to play it on real hardware.
When I eventually get my new PC this summer I really wanna work on my own custom tracks, specifically ports of LittleBigPlanet Karting levels I've always wanted to see how tracks from that game would play in a Mario Kart title but nobody ever ports them
There should be a track-exclusive Among Us Mode (single or multiplayer) where you play as the Impostor or a Racer (randomly selected) and you must eliminate the competition by pushing them off the track. You have 1 chance to take out the competition, and you don't know who's who. When you eliminate someone, the game would say "_____ was/was not the Impostor." If you get eliminated, you become a Ghost. There are infinite laps and of course, whoever can eliminate the competition first wins.
If you wanna make a track less bumpy, try triangulating your collision Model. What that means is that you transform all quads into triangles. But only do this for your collision model (KCL) and not the real model, since it will look worse
Nice question! Yeah I have quite a bit of experience with blender, however i'd say you don't need too much knowledge with working in blender to create something like this. I highly recommend NintyYoshi's series on Mario Kart DS, because it also teaches you a lot of beginner blender tips! Hope this helps!
I feel it should be noted that 256x256 isn't the maximum texture size, they *can* be up to 1024x1024, or 1024x512 for a 4x4 texture (you'd be using all your texture VRAM though lol). Could only see it briefly in the video but it looks like you used a3i5 for a few textures that probably didn't need it, which perhaps contributed to the problems observed. Cool video nonetheless
Gotcha, yeah that's something I'll admit I didn't look too much into lol, probably just saw a brief comment during the workshop series I mentioned and went with it haha. Thanks for letting me know! :)

I always wondered how to make custom tracks and in this video you make it look so easy, thanks for this valuable information! :D :3

First the amogmobile and now this
extremely interested if this works with DS Download Play, allowing you to share the amogus to other's DS's
no it wouldn’t its a rom modification unless they use local mp with the same rom it’d work

Super interesting, awesome video!
Thanks!
Mario kart ds = nostalgia
Did anyone else notice that the map on the bottom screen was off?
Ah yeah, kinda forgot to re-do the path for the minimap lol, whoops!
This has inspired me to make my own track, as a 3d modeller this should be easy (hopefully)
I can't wait for this to be added into CTGP Nitro lol
yooooo im glad my mod was showcased in this video lmao

what was the tool called at 2:45 ?
It popped up for a brief second
The one with the troll face lol? If so, it's one called "imd and ita converter" basically just an app that converts one type of object to another.
@@JettLee oh ok, yea it was the one with the troll face 😂 thank you !
@@XPrismatic No problem haha!
I cannot patch both crewmate and susy circuit to the game. Can you send me rom with both of these patches?

I used blender to model the course, and Mario Kart Toolbox to import the course!
@@JettLee Ok thanks
What if you made the eye a shortcut?
how do you add a custom character tho?
Oh no...
What about the map?
ok but how do i install it

How do I replace characters in a Mario kart rom
How do I play the mod

Wow this is sooo simple, and then you look at MKwii tutorials😭😭
