Aside from the video fidelity (early 80s, what can you do?) The Young Ones is actually fucking amazing even by modern standards. The cutaways to puppets is surreal and hilarious.
While I personally haven't the slightest clue what I just watched, I must say that it is a shame that so much media of that time period fell into the trap that was shooting to tape, meanwhile film media continues to get re-read into higher and higher resolutions every year with near-perfect fidelity.
It's hard to tell from this clip, but the short demon is being played by a young Warrick Davis- who went on to have supporting roles in the _Star Wars_ and _Harry Potter_ franchises, as well as starring in several 80's films such as _Time Bandits_ and _Willow._
"I am the god of hellfire and I bring you fire" are the opening lyrics of the song Fire, by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. It's just the song playing in the clip.
Lemmy appears in the end of that group’s band mockumentary movie ‘Bad News’. It came out at around the same time as Spinal Tap so it gets overshadowed a bit.
I don’t remember what episode but I remember Jeremy Clarkson quoting this line on Top Gear. As an American, I’d never heard of this show so I didn’t get the reference
I have a hunch Death Grips actually sampled this straight off the Prodigy's own use of this snippet. Death Grips even did a remix of a bunch of Prodigy songs, the influence is pretty undeniable.
this show is also sampling it. it's from a band called Crazy World of Arthur Brown, a really out there psychedelic rock band from the 60s/70s. here's the source: ua-cam.com/video/YzHtePuz13U/v-deo.html
yes and no. yes it's in the song lunchbox. no it's not from this. this show is using a soundbyte from a 60's psychedelic rock band. the band is called Crazy World of Arthur Brown, the song is called Fire and it came out in 1968. Arthur Brown was really out there. one could argue he was the marilyn manson of his day. wierd makeup and clothes, over the top stage show, really just missing the gothic/macabre metal elements. i'm positive Manson took heavy inspiration from him, as did Alice Cooper. ua-cam.com/video/YzHtePuz13U/v-deo.html
The actual fuck is that if you’re a fan of 95% of American sitcoms, in which you know when to laugh because the laugh track plays and the joke is over as soon as the words are out of the character’s mouth, The Young Ones might take some getting used to.
Highly recommend the cunninlynguists song hellfire which sample the I am the god of hellfire part, straight fire song off an incredible album, one of the best rap albums of the 2000s.
*LORD OF THE GAME*
