As someone who has played all the Callaway Balls, I think I would classify the Chrome Soft as sort of a "Intro to high end tour balls". It does spin a good amount, but not overly crazy where it can get you in trouble like the others. Definitely straight off the tee and more than enough spin to hold most greens. I would say great for 10-20 handicaps with moderate swing speeds. It's a good ball, but like you said for the price point you can basically play any ball on the market. Pretty much agree with your analysis in the video.
I think that's for the most part a pretty decent Fair assessment. The only thing I would probably push back on a little is the 10 to 20 handicap. As an eight myself, even I'm on the fence about whether or not I would use this golf ball. Just not enough good data for the money. A 20 handicap in my eyes should definitely still be playing a two-piece golf ball.
I switched from Titleist AVX and ProV1X to Chrome Soft this year and I'm really happy. I picked up 3 dozen for $54.99 and got one dozen free. Softer than the Titleists and 1000% more durable. Better all-around IMO
Nice. That's actually a really telling sign if you switched from from firmer golf balls and still like the soft. Definitely means they firmed it up this year. If you can get a free dozen then I would say that's definitely a win-win.
I don't think the golf ball has trouble holding greens. It just has less spend than other golf balls in its price range. As well as lower price range. 500 RPM definitely isn't the difference between losing the green. Like I said in the video, I just have to be super picky because of that price point
I use and was fitted for the chrome soft ball. I use it exclusively and it without a doubt outperforms the vice balls, the cut balls and the legato golf ball as I have tried all of them. I love the distance and the way it holds the greens.
@@GolfBallAddict I was fitted at the golf exchange in Florence ky. They used a software program that analyzed my swing data and recommended callaway chrome soft. Golf exchange also fit my ping clubs. After using chrome soft I can’t imagine ever going to another ball.
Great review, as always, Nick! The low spin numbers make me wonder if they've redesigned this ball for slightly faster swingers who might get more spin? Any thoughts on that possibility? Kind of bummed, since I swing a few mph slower than you and was hoping this would be a good fit for me next year. You rock, dude!
Been playing chrome soft last 6 months and really like them. Based on less than stellar reviews, been considering other options. Tried the chrome tour a couple rounds and was always in the rough and losing more balls than normal. Switched back to chrome soft mid round and game returned to “normal”. Don’t play enough rounds to waste time trying tons of options. More concerned with performance than cost. Looking for a couple suggested next options to try.
Yeah that's not a problem at all. If you want to shoot me an email at golfballaddict@gmail.com and let me know your swing speed, driver distance, and some of your preferences while playing, I will gladly shoot you some recommendations
Interesting, I have never heard that before. I did test both the white one and a yellow one but I wasn't paying much attention for a difference between them. I'll take another look
I currently play the speedsoft and like it a lot but I feel like my swing is starting to get to the point of seeing the benefits of the more premium like the chrome soft and TP5. Especially around the greens. What are your thoughts on making the change or sticking with the more "softer" budget ball?
Anytime you're ready to make that jump it's an awesome day. Getting good enough to play tour level and three piece golf balls is a nice change of pace once you get better. However, that's quite a drastically to go from a two-piece ball to a tp5. That's what torpros are using. My recommendation would be to try a couple of the value balls that are three piece you're a thing. The top flight gamer, the legato LTX, etc. These golf balls are a great price and a great way to get into the 3 piece market
Thanks for doing a video on this ball. I have hit the chrome soft for several years now and agree with everything you’ve stated. I have the 2022 and the 2024 balls and actually I prefer the 2022 version slightly better. The 2022 does in fact feel softer and with the 2024 I seem to gain 5 yards per club and 10 yards with the driver. If I had to pick between the 2022 and 2024 I would go with the 2022 version untill there not available anymore.
The thing is, I don't mind losing a couple yards of distance with my clubs if it means I get a much better feel and more spend. Distance isn't everything for me, but when I'm sacrificing that much feel and spin and paying more it just doesn't work
They made the ball slightly harder for faster swing speeds. It’s basically the “soft” version of the new tour ball. It works out great for me because I thought the OG was just a little too soft. Now I think it’s PERFECT 👍 It’s not a ball intended for swing speeds under 100 mph. That’s why they make cheaper balls. Try the new SuperSoft if you want something cheaper and more comparable to the older model.
I understand it will work for different crowds now, but the 90 MPH crowd loved the old model and I think it fit their lineup better. I like the ERC but not nearly as much as I liked the old CS
From personal experience, I think that the Callaway ERC is more similar to the older Chrome Soft. Pricewise the ERC is about halfway between the SuperSoft and the Chrome Soft.
You should do a ERC Soft vs Chrome Soft, from what I remember the numbers are very close together. Instead of spending the extra money on Chrome Soft, just buy the ERC Soft....just a thought.
You are 100% correct. As I was going through and doing the numbers for this video, I had to change the numbers from the previous video, which as you know is the erc. The numbers were extremely identical. I think the ERC feels a lot softer than the Chrome soft as well.
This my fav channel to drink my coffe 2🙂I have some wierd "fix idea" that im a Callaway ball dude haha.i just like the white/blue/red. So went for Chrome Tour trutrack bc i like the pattern. Tried TP5 pix 1 time because of the pattern, but reminded me 2 much of doritos haha..But anyways, im in 2 my second dozen CT now, and the durability has not been good..I dont know if its my new Raw Jaws wedges that are to "sharky" or what it is, but i get way to many balls to fast in to the "broken ball" pocket of the bag..Playing Srixon Divide atm since i wanted 2 try it, and those are crazy long!
You know I didn't think about it until I just read your comment, but I did not have as good of luck with the durability on the Chrome tour as I did with the Chrome soft.
@GolfBallAddict maybe i get me a sleeve of softs then, bc I'm a soft guy😁..have a dozen divides coming 2morrow , but as I said, white blue red is what I want😇
Let me know where I can go to see if you have some sleeves for sale of the sugar golf ball… or your recommendation of something as a close second with just a good of value.. thanks
Honestly I'm not really happy with the 2024 model at all. The old versions were so much better across the board. I would say durability is pretty close but that's about it
Thanks Nick. It's possible I might see a whisker of improvement with this ball, but I can't justify the price/performance ratio. I refuse to spend that much on golf balls, even with the discount price.
It is cool that Callaway and some other big AAA companies have been doing buy three get one free. I'm just not happy with the performance this year. I feel like the changes weren't for the better
Great review! Price vs performance is bottom line. I wonder if they thickened the cover and that’s where durability comes from. I agree though the previous Chrome Soft was a great ball at a Meh price. Now it’s a good ball at a high price. I started playing to Vice air it’s a good ball at o good price in bulk order. Kind of wondering if I should have leaned towards the Vice Pro now. lol. Maybe next year. Wondering now how the ball “rollback” is going to affect us. Coming soon!
Yeah that's an interesting thought. I don't know how the rollback will affect us. I honestly prefer the air. I like the soft feeling a little bit better
“Addicted” to your channel - very informative! However, I do have an odd question? Do you live in a prison? I notice the barbed wire fence surrounding your chipping/putting green! I am, of course, being flippant but you do seem well protected.
That barbed wire was there when we bought the house. The original owner had those put in to protect his racing pigeons from being stolen and or eaten. No I am not making this up.
This years model with it's lower launch and spin is what's giving you the great distance. However, with a shallower decent angle and less spin, holding greens should be harder. Isn't the whole purpose behind a 3 piece urethane ball to hold greens?
It's insane to think about. I hate the fact that we have to pay all these tour players who are already getting paid millions. The rich get richer and the poor get poor. Not to sound political but that's literally how it is right now in the golf ball industry.
I agree. I don't mind spending a little more if I know the quality is a little better. But there's definitely a difference between a little more and a ton more.
I would like to try these but I am not going to buy 3 dozen to get 1 dozen free to get the price down. Many other balls just as good but cheaper. I will stick with Inesis 900 or the Jayllah JG3X.
Couple of points here: You went from 130 to 160 from 9 to 7 iron. Given the 5H numbers, I’d expect the 9I to be around 140. 5H rolled out 10 feet. This is unacceptable for a player of your caliber. I can tell you that I do not like the Chrome Soft 2024. Feels like a tennis ball coming off of every club except the wedges. Maxfli Tour S and Vice Pro Air are far better options in the same space.
Just saw them at the store and gave them a squeeze. Was hoping they'd feel like the Zip and that they'd be the Zip replacement? Didn't think so on first inspection. Would love for it to be a good Zip clone!
GOLF BALL ADDICT JUST DROPPED 🙌🙌🙌

I just played the Chrome soft pic.’s this week, I couldn’t believe how far the went! Thanks
Did you play the new version of the old version?
@ New!
I play the chrome soft & I have no problem holding greens. I have around 100 mph driver swing
I had a golf ball fitting and I was fit for the chrome soft and love the distance and spin around the greens.
I don't think the golf ball has trouble holding greens. It just has less spend than other golf balls in its price range. As well as lower price range. 500 RPM definitely isn't the difference between losing the green. Like I said in the video, I just have to be super picky because of that price point
I used buy these when they were reasonably priced but now I would rather buy a Legato or Vice as they are the top price to performance.
I am currently playing legato, but love the new Vice pro plus. I’m torn between the two
I don't blame you. That's kind of the dilemma I had to. I wanted to like them so much but just ended up being a little short
I use and was fitted for the chrome soft ball. I use it exclusively and it without a doubt outperforms the vice balls, the cut balls and the legato golf ball as I have tried all of them. I love the distance and the way it holds the greens.

I think it still will end up holding greens for the most part. I just can't understand the massive price hike while taking away said spin.
Great review, as always. I agree on the price. Too much for this ball. Should be no more than $44.94 per dozen.
It's hard to spend that much.
55 a dozen shaking my head it's almost like these companies are trying to be to expensive for the average Joe golfer

Spot on review. Very long with short irons. But low spin that does not check like other premium balls.
Thank you very much for watching and sharing your feedback. I agree. I hated to be that picky with that price point I don't have a choice
I will never pay that much for a golf ball.
I won't either. I am too frugal and cheap. I also love value too much.
It is over priced even at 42 a dozen you have so many golf that are at a much better price, Wright and ditson, legato which I'm using now.

I do. I think immediately you'll notice the feel
These balls crack in half... I have never had this before with the last generation but now in two dozen, I have had five crack in half. Buyer beware 😮
