    As one of the printing press operators who have printed the boxes and sleeves for these balls and also Callaway’s premium golf balls, I can assure you that a great deal of the pricing difference comes from the cost of printing the packaging. The premium balls are printed on material that costs around $5.00 per sheet. A single sheet yields 2 box bases and lids plus the sleeves to fill both boxes. Add in the cost of printing and converting and you can see where a great deal of the cost comes from. The balls you reviewed are printed on a much cheaper sheet and the printing isn’t nearly as complex. All the same, Great review!!!

  • @TeddyCavachon

    Ball speed off the face is a function of the elastic properties of the ball which dictate the rate of decompression off the face. Lower durometer (softer) balls will compress faster and decompress slower than higher durometer ones. Since it is marketed as a “soft” ball it shouldn’t be expected to perform like a higher durometer ProV1 or others in its class. That said most recreational golfers which are the intended market don’t have your ability to compress a premium ball optimally and might get more distance at their swing speeds than with a premium ball.
    Something you might also consider doing when testing balls is do the Epson salt path spin test for balance.

  • @Ranalol
    @Ranalol 2 роки тому +26

    Two things rick: you should hit a few proV1s as a reference for your shots, perhaps your swing is slower that day etc. It would be a nice comparison for us. 2. they're £22 on amazon now as we've all just searched

    • @blueboy4300

      my current price for my preferred superhot bold is currently about $50.00(US) for 15. so about $3.33 per ball, or 2 pounds, 95P hex soft is currently $24 per dozen, or $2.00 per ball (1.77 pounds)

      @@AustinLindstrom I'm aware that's his go to ball and his standard distances are prov1s but there are so many variables to consider e.g weather hot/cold i hit much further in the summer, wind direction and strength, and player form. In science you would add an internal standard to a sample which is a very accurate known amount so you could compare your data against it. For all we know he was off form or a large head wind was present etc. He's used prov1 shots in the past for comparison and shown said product was not performing. It was a shame a couple weren't hit here, it's likely he would have hit a prov1 280 that day but we dont know and still a very enjoyable video.

    "let's just say we got out here" points directly to the problems of this and every other indicator. Obviously looking at a historical chart, after several candles close, is a fantastic time to have closed. good luck making that call with any consistency. the other problem is flatter markets and false signals. I have my doubts about this.

  • @gregwilliams9658

    I used to get the Hex Tour Soft that were at Costco and I really liked them. Very soft and decent distance.
    However, I did see some ball review videos recently that suggested you leave distance and control around the green out there using "soft" balls and that harder premium balls really will make a difference to my game.
    I've bought a load of Titleist Pro V1X's and I don't think I will go back. Now it is winter months I will probably use less premium balls but once we get back to spring it will be back to the Titleists!

    Loved the video! I would make just one suggestion on it, when doing this test you should have had the ball you play (prov1) to establish the baseline for the shots, especially on the driver. It could have been just that day that the ball wasn't going as far, and you would have been able to tell if you hit the Prov1 Side by side with it.

    Great Video Rick !! my guess is that for your swing speed these softer balls loose distance but for the golfer the ball was intended for that golfer might even gain distance compared to the tour balls you would play as it is easier for them to compress the ball, I always like the Super Soft in the spring and fall here in Canada but as temps rise, I switch to a premium ball .

But in the last several years I've been finding some Callaway Warbird balls and using them too, and I find they go high and always farther, always a good 15 yards and more off the tee, and one iron farther from the fairway. When I'm hitting the tee ball good I always tee up a Warbird ball, I just wish Callaway made them in the Matte Green cover like the Velocity, My opinion but this is it. Have a cheap entry level ball that is good is a really important thing for the game. For people to really learn to be consistent and know what clubs do what it is a big help to use the same ball every time and be able to aford to lose them.
    I know myself I would always use lake and found balls when I was younger, but as got older and could aford to buying new reasonable mid range balls my consitancey went up considerably.

    I got these on a Black Friday deal. 24 balls for $30USD. Much prefer Supersofts. These hex soft are too “clicky” for my liking. They perform fine off the tee and around the green, but the clickiness is enough to get into my head.
    For reference I don’t play performance balls (tp5, prov1, etc) because the magnified slice or hook from by bad shots is very noticeable with those. Super soft (or similar from other manufacturers) seems to be the sweet spot for mid to high handicap in my experience.

    Rick, great stuff! Future review idea if you want to test Piper golf balls. Looks like a Vice competitor that slightly undercuts Vice on price. They’ve got different balls based on handicap.
    Full disclosure, I found them after going to Amazon to pick up some of these Hex Softs…

    I even find the chrome soft to be firm in comparison to balls I use like Pro V1x . Bridgestones even the Mizuno balls and Vice Balls.

    allow me to suggest Amazon/play testing the price-point Wilson Smartcore and the Nitro Eclipse (two-tone, Srixon Divide-like) and the 3-pc Pulsar.
    . . .and I am right there with you. I have hit the 200-yard wedge shot when less than 100 out many-a-time. Feels worse than a 3-jack on a green hit in reg.

    I found one of these balls on my course and used it. It stopped on a dime which is what I prefer. As far as distance did not see much difference than the Pro V1. Sad thing was a sculled a 9 iron into a large fur tree and lost it. ( didn't hit any patio furniture like you) I looked all over Calkaway's site and could not find them. Thanks for the tip.

    Do you get Precept Laddie balls in the UK? I would love a review on those. You can buy 2 dozen for under $20 here in the US and I feel like they are incredibly underrated. I typically play Vice Pro Plus or TP5.

    I played a handful of these that I have found on the course from time to time. These are somewhere between the Callaway Supersoft and the Superfast(old superhots that were 3 piece but are now 2 piece). For the average golfer they will fly straighter but if you are low spin player with irons these will roll out on the green. They have a softer core so anyone with above average swing speed is not going to maximize ball speed like Rick showed. Better than warbirds which are rocks.

      Used them today and Rick is spot on. They don't go as far but you definitely have more control around the green. Great practice ball.🙌

  • @JLagGOLF
    @JLagGOLF 2 роки тому

    Lower back spin will not help you hit it straighter in fact it's the exact opposite. If you want to hit it straighter you want more spin. This is why your driver will slice a lot more than your pitching wedge for example.

    In general, and almost universally, softer golf balls won't go as far as high compression golf balls. That is true with all swing speeds. Testing this ball against a higher priced low compression ball like a Titleist AVX or another low compression ball would be a good comparison.
