Sloppy Swordsplay does about 1 damage 2000 times with a single swipe. Imagine if he did it with anything other than the Excalipoor.

All this time, he's been dreaming of that fated encounter with Bartz again, while having meandered into an alt timeline of FF7's events. Gotta love his persistence. In essence, this is actually the first time for this version of Cloud and his friends meeting Gilgamesh. They must be REALLY confused.

I'm still a little rusty with Gilgamesh's timeline. Is ff8 still considered the oldest version since he's missing half his arms?
Surprised to see the so called "original fans" complaining about this and the fact that Gilgamesh appears.
This is Gilgamesh, he's been traveling for the final fantasy multiverse since FFV, that's part of his lore.
People are complaining about Greg joining??? He doesn't really detract from the story or add from it from what I'm seeing. If anything, him being a boss here adds on to both his lore and the gameplay aspect of this game.

I don't think any song in Final Fantasy history can get the blood pumping quite like Battle On The Big Bridge. One Winged Angel and Dancing Mad are great, but Gilgamesh's theme is on another level.
DM and OWA have this feeling of "facing a god" while Battle at the Big Bridge is a really upbeat song.

Yes, in his debut game, Final Fantasy V, after reaching a certain HP threshold in one of his many boss fights . He'll yell "It's morphing time!" He sprouts 6 other arms brandishing a separate weapon in each one.
He's one of my favorite recurring characters in the FF franchise.

It’s really a shame this fight was teased in the promo material leading up to release. This would have been an absolute surprise to find unspoiled.
Meh, the first time you see him is at the end of the protorelic story in the Grasslands, around 8 hours into the game. So the surprise of fighting him isn't withheld for very long either way.

Wow they make excalipoor really strong by making it deal damage like 2500x in 1 millisecond
Excalipoor is a strong weapon... if you use it as anything but a sword. Throw it, it deals loads of damage. Goblin Punch with it where possible, and it actually uses it's high Attack. And at least in FFV, it "always does 1 damage", which is to say, _it does not miss whatsoever._ Final Fantasy likes to put "massive defense/evasion/both, no actual health" enemies throughout the series.
Chadley will likely have us hunt down rifts in the third game, instead of a general world intel.
Don't forget, in ff12 gilgamesh have the buster sword....

In this variant he wields some of the strongest non-character specific weaponry from across the FF games on top of his classic Naginata (Rune Axe, Muramasa, etc. The Banana Fan is new though likely placing this before his appearance in FF8 when he claims Zantetsuken). He has a scrap buster sword and a nail bat on his back in this form but never uses them.

Yep he's the superboss (or at least the biggest optional boss with story attached). Stuff like Weapons and more Compilation characters are being largely saved for the third game.
I hope Gilgamesh will be appears in Final Fantasy 16 for Clive Rosfield in The Boss

Kinda wish we had some FF VIII reference with Odin summon in this fight. Something among the lines of "Didn't I beat you before?"
The fact he doesn't pull out any version of Zantetsuken likely places this in gilgamesh's timeline before he arrived in FF8, though his use of excalipoor easily stands in for it (1 swing yet thousands of strikes in the blink of an eye, making it an actually terrifying prospect to face)
ff7 is now canonically part of the wider ff multiverse(along with al the other FF's that Gilgamesh has jumped to)
So this is while after he got banished, but before necrophobe, so prior to VIII, earlier enough that he doesn't fully get technology, so prior to XIII.

Also not sure if FFXII, FFXIV count too alonsgide Stranger of Paradise, but that just shows how widely traveled Gilgamesh has been over the years.
@@mas8705 According to my chart, XV Gilgamesh is a whole being separate from the main Gilgamesh. There are a few like that, like type-0 Gilgamesh, XI and IX. Stranger of Paradise is post Dissidia, XII is post Necrophobe and XIV is post Recovery.

I always figured that all of Greg's travels across the rift happened in-between his banishment by Exdeath, and all his experiences were what lead him to have the resolve to go back and help Bartz, Lenna, Faris, and Krile out one last time.

Got to this fight tonight. I was level 49 and after the Odin/Alexander duo I master my team set up and barely finished it as he counted to one. Was such a great fight.
I was around the same level and just couldn’t do the dual summon fights without one of them doing that stupid near insta-kill move everytime. I kind of just bitched out at that point and switched the difficulty to easy. 😅
Though I was able to beat Gilgamesh on normal!

@@Rayfist090 Honestly, that's why I always stuck to using Phoenix during those fights, and using the level 2 limits to drastically increase stagger. It allowed me to really focus on one summon at a time by constant staggering as they kept building up my limits quickly.
I'm pretty sure that's the Spear from 14... Also that might be the fusion tsurugi on his back but i'm not certain
Lol this is amazing. FfV will always hold a place in my heart as the first final fantasy I ever played and hearing the battle of the big bridge is just… great

Gilgamesh has canonically already been in the ff7 verse prior to this. Most likely an alt timeline. When he uses “masamune” it’s literally sephiroth’s sword lol. Sephiroth’s sword is definitely the finest katana, so it makes sense he’d have it within his collection. Masamune < buster sword

Gilgamesh is honsetly one of my favorite Part of Final fantasy. because unlike The Many Cids biggs and wedge's of Final Fantasy Gilgamesh is always THE same person. It's not a re incarnation or equivilant. Every time You Meet him through out the series it's Always THE same guy you Fought in Final fantasy V Across ALL the Different Universes dimentions and timelines. Gilgamesh is the One constant Connecting them together. Travelling from univere to universe.
Hell he's even to this day Carrying the Excalipoor.

@@RaifSeverence FF9 & FF11 namesake is different person, FF9 ones involves in series of sidequests, while FF11 is leader of tenshodo & father of main heroine, Lion, from base game & 1st expansion, also... their situation really mimics FF10's Cid & Rikku, in which both Rikku & Lion share similar fashions while both Cid & Gilga being old man & their respective leaders. Also, he's not in OG 6 btw, his addition later on was on GBA port i believe.
FF8s is a guardian force (summon) replacement for Odin if done something about it.

Anyone else notice that a Shira Trooper and Gilgamesh are the only ones that refer the Buster Sword by name except that both times it's in lowercase meaning it's a type or sword instead of uppercase for the name of the sword?
Also in Zack’s timeline, he’s described as wielding “a” Buster Sword, rather than “the” Buster Sword.
@@fissilewhistle Exactly! This makes me think that buster swords are a type of sword that anyone can just get in the FF7 universe instead of let's say Sephiroth's Masamune which is one of a kind.
The intro would be more epic if we just hear his life, and then he stands up proudly, laughts and look back, already ready to fight and he says the line; "HOW LONG I'VE WAITED! GILGAMESH FIGHTS AGAIN!!!"

Not 1000% sure but I think fighting simulator has Titan, Phoenix, Garuda, Alexander and Odin.
First game also had 5 unique bosses in Shiva, Chocobo, Leviathan, Bahamut and Omega. DLC added Ramuh and Weiss(?).
So I think dlc might add a few more.
I dunno but he was way easier to handle compared to the tomfuckery the Phoenix + Kajara combo trial did that unlocks him
@@wr5488no Garuda. I was hoping she’d appear because we need a wind summon but hopefully she’ll be in the last part.
@gnarlyboyjai Typhon is the wind summon in FF7, and will most likely appear along with the remaining summons of Hades, Bahamut Zero and KotR in part 3. Garuda was only introduced as a summon in XI, it was just a random bird enemy for most of the games before that and is found in Wutai in VII as a regular random encounter
