I Left This Clarinet in My Car for 2 Years... But Will It Play!?

- I am not hailed for having a great sense of urgency nor memory. This clarinet has been sitting in my trunk ever since I got my new clarinet. I am sorry Dr. Monroe. I will return this to you when I am back in NC. I will also pay for the repair...
Holy crap though. Eastman saxophones are INCREDIBLE! I was not expecting this. I will keep playing on my new Mark VI a little longer before I think about switching butttt those Eastmans are DEFINITELY my favorite modern horns I have ever tried.
Thank you Adam Schoen for your great help. You are the ultimate good man. And thank you Music Man Inc. for repairing my clarinet!!! I will be back.
Here is the Music Man Inc. that I was at’s Instagram (they are very fast at replying if you DM them any questions!):

@@theaveragejoe838 hey wtf you doing here
@@barackobama1149 yo wassup homie
@@theaveragejoe838 been good hbu, just suprised seeing you here
@@barackobama1149 I’ve been good too man
I like how it went from “Oh no, I left my clarinet in my car for 2 years. Let’s see if it still works” to “Ooooh a saxophone, let’s try it”
Trying a whole sleu of different horns and finding one that you really click with is an amazing feeling. I went to a Music & Arts store event with a couple friends once and tried a whole bunch of clarinets they had on display. I ended up really clicking with the Yamaha CSVR. Over a year later, I was finally able to get one of my own as my senior gift this past February. I love the horn to death, though I will always look upon my days with my $100 Selmer Bundy horn with fondness.
I went to a music and arts event in which they had dozens of clarinets at the ready, and the one I clicked with was a bakun proroge, most beautiful clarinet I've ever played, I ended up getting a Leblanc serenade, and one day hope to get the proroge, just love it
As clarinet player, that rose-gold ligature has me bustin
Bruh same
Ayo 🤨📸
@@mistadude ay man I guess you can’t relate
I own that ligature and it is the most perfect ligature. One crank knob, perfect groove to hold the reed vertical, and it looks amazing. I also have a black one that is just as perfect.
Dude ! your professor did you a huge solid and lent you his first horn and you totally dissed it 😩 for shame . Please show more respect to others in the future .
Yes I am the worst
That is right ✅
@@Saxologic I want to play megalovania on my clarinet

@@shark_4049 good for you
Hey Nathan, why do you think people don't play clarinet in jazz anymore?
And will you take a jazz approach to your clarinet playing? Or will you use it purely for classical music?
Easily the best kind of clarinet music. Love clarinets in jazz
Alot of reasons.
He probably has a clarinet primarily for doubling in jazz.
Man, I wanted to hear you play the clarinet a bit more though
Agreed
This information hurts me as a clarinetist, that it had been sitting there for so long☹️
Same but to be honest it's the same for every instrument also his a saxophone player not a clarinet player
@@lolololololol369 I know he's a saxophone player...?
I mean it's in the channel name and I have watched this for ages lol
@@shritan0 no offense, I don't want to answer but I play saxophone and clarinet, and would like to play base
I do play in a community band tho
Why is it crazy that it still plays if it's been sitting in a case safe from the environments and whatnot?
I feel like the only thing to worry about would be the cork
The cases aren't airtight and heat resistant. The heat and humidity changes can stress the material and make it warp or split (if it's wood), causing it to have leaks. Also they have pads like saxophones
It’s a Bundy by Selmer. So, it’s a plastic clarinet, wood cracking isn’t a huge issue. The biggest worry would be the heat. Pads and corks are glued in. Especially with the heat in South Florida, it’s Amazing that all of the pads sealed as well as they did!
The heat should have trashed all the pads and glue. Surprised it played
@@MaiseNow didn't even think about the pads..
@@musicmaninc4305 on a scale of 1 to 10 how bad are these things? I’ve only ever played on a wooden clarinet. I’m thinking about getting something like this, I gave my nice clarinet to my nephew. I have a bunch of instruments I’m trying to get (just imagine some goober trying to eventually create some type of weird folk “orchestra”) but I want something to hold me over until I’ve saved up enough money to get all the crazy stuff I want. Including an expensive clarinet that I’d like. So I figure getting something like this would give me a chance to experiment with some of my weird ideas on garage band. (Congas + Ukulele + cello banjo + clarinet)
Do they have anything similar that’s tuned in Eb instead as well? Because I’m thinking I want something in a higher tuning.
Who knows what could be I’m his car anymore he might even have a tuba or something
I listen to molly on the shore everyday at work lol, hearing him play it made me smile
truly the best piece ever written for a concert band
You made all the horns sound great, but I liked how the lacquered vintage Eastman sounded best. Clarinets: the struggle is real.
I am so amazed at how he puffs up his cheeks and is still so good at the sax
This is great and all, but... 3:38 *CAN WE TALK ABOUT THAT STAIRCASE*
What about it
You should seriously try my 500-ish clarinet mouthpieces sometime...
Especially while you're in Florida! I was just in at Music Man! What a great store 👍
I really really excited every time you make a clarinet video. There is no clarinet youtuber that plays and make challenges but saxophone there are plenty. So when there is a clarinet video I really like it (I play clarinet if you didn't get It lol(
6:27 You didn’t just play *T h e L I C C* twice did you?
I own an Eastman 52nd and I honestly love it to death, it’s shaped my ever growing love for playing music! I wouldn’t trade mine in for anything else
6:45 omg I played that song for jazz band a few years ago
I just remembered it's called confirmation
I love how the first thing he played was Molly. Amazing
Oh my goodness!!! The guy (Sidney/Mr. Oser) in your video used to be my middle school band teacher!! That's insane
MR OSERRRRRRR
AHHH
OSER?
ITS NEVER OSER
Oh shit, I was in FSU's Marching Chiefs and Seminole Sound (basketball pep band) with him! He's wearing his old uniform sweatshirt for Seminole Sound too! Geez, the world feels a whole lot smaller now.
New vid idea!!!!
Blind fold yourself and see if you can tell the brand of horn by the feel and sound of it. !!!!
Thumbs this up!
Clarinet gang
Although I’m a clarinetist primarily my favorite instrument is either soprano sax or alto sax. I would, however, recommend every woodwind player try a clarinet at least once.
Nathan might have one of my most favourite tones on Alto. Could listen to you play for hours man.
Came for the clarinet, stayed for the sax tryouts
I always love trying out a variety saxes (and other instruments) at conventions like TMEA. That's how I found a bari from Buffet that I really liked back in college, though I never have been able to afford my own bari sax... 😢
Next vid: I ran my clarinet over with my car...BUT WILL IT STILL PLAY???
Hey bro! I understand you're located in Miami? I wanted to know if we could link. What's your Instagram?
4:32 hey that lick is from your Mario Kart 64 Rainbow Road solo! (it also might just be a very famous jazz quote please don't laugh at me I don't know)
I believe he incorporated the mario k lick and made it into his own mate! Nice ear, I noticed as well
*sees Bundy logo on case
👁️👄👁️ Oh dear God no
y reupload
this man really flexed on all of us when he whipped out "Molly on the Shore"
I'm looking at all of these price tags that are anywhere from $4k-6k and they're all described as "professional horns" and I'm over here with my advanced student/early pro-level cello that costs $13k. Granted, my cello will probably last me my entire life and then some if I take care of it well, but it's just something I noticed about instruments.
Saw you at music man bro! So sick
Is it working again?
It is :)
I’m am Surprised that my mom’s clarinet still works after 21 years
What? Why isn't there a Mario kart lick???? You dissapointed me man.
Just joking, great video man.
Oh my always wanted you to try my Eastman AS850. Now you know the secret to my mediocre tone.
10:07 Nathan has a stroke.
My alto is an As42 and I love it is so responsive and the action feels a little better than the Yas62 in my opinion.
I just got an as42 and it’s coming in tomorrow
The fact that I could have driven down to come and see you is mind-boggling, hahaha.
I just got a selmer as42 and hearing him say he actually liked it makes me so much more confident!!
Same honestly! I have an AS42B and I can't really find anything other reviews or anything on it so I was kinda curious what other people thought
We woondwind are the best no offense to the brass players
I just love to see these notifications
I’m surprised after all that time it still worked. Very interesting video how unbelievable that poor clarinet was accidentally abandoned for 2 whole years but was forgotten until now what a life. I still gotta get my clarinet looked at, same with a few of my other brass and woodwind instruments!!…
Just casually busts out Molly on the Shore
5:12 sounded so much like the mario kart lick
Next video: I left my car with a clarinet inside for 2 years. Will it still run?
am i the only one that realized
none of them were wearing masks and this was only just under 2 months ago?
… you serious?
Don’t puff your cheeks that is what my band director said
Thanks for the tip good sir!
so uhhh...does this video not load for anyone else?
[update: 4 hours later it's working now]
I play a Selmer 40 Series alto (the black nickel and silver finish) and was wondering what you thought of the one you played? I can't seem to find very many reviews or anything about it and I'm kinda curious what other people think
Love your Channel you do some great videos.
Sax and Clarinet are so similar and Tenor, soprano sax and standard Clarinet all being in the Key of Bb helps with fingering. I used to play Clarinet and Alto Sax When I was in School some 25 years ago.. Now I play Ukulele, Guitar, Bass, a bit of Piano/Keyboard. Music is fun in all its shapes and forms.
When I first looked at the thumbnail I thought our boi Nathan was laying down some sick guttural screams.
The suspension is killing me lmao
1:01 man rlly hit us with molly on the shore🥵🥵🥵
You sound pretty good on clarinet my dude. 🤙🏾
2 years? yeah its fine.
Short answer: No
Adam is so cool
Let's Go Canes!
sooo… someone in my area was giving a away a free clarinet. i don’t know why they did it, but with one $100 cleaning, it was a perfect clarinet! it has the exact case as the one you have.
aint no way dude started playong molly on the shore thay brings back memories
Hi I want to work on sound and tone Quality I've doing long tones everytime I practice and listening to different saxophonist but my sound still the same
Holy shit dude that's literally my exact same setup that my school gave me and I bought the same rovner mouthpeice.
does anybody know the song the he played 1:00
Molly on the Shore
I bought a clarinet and tenor sax from Amazon. Neither one plays correct. Once you hit the register key, nothing but grunting and sqilling. Can someone tell me what to do and what is wrong with this mess.
1. You bought it from Amazon
Don’t do this with your Mk Vi
10:07 the ritual was rushed!, I couldn’t do it with u like I normally do🥲
Anyone have a soprano for beginners recommendation? Just wanna try different sax.
Deja vu? What's going on with that clarinet reed?
I also stop o play clarinet while I bought my saxophone
Wait a minute
That guy at music man sitting on the chair looks like the guy I saw when I went??????
How the heckin hecker did that man play so good without warmup??
Do you think they have a Yanagisawa A-WO37 in stock?
i was like in any normal state that would probably be moderately ok but florida like dang bro surprised it didnt like melt
lol I was in the marching chiefs with Sidney.
Whatever you do don't tell Michael Estrin about it
hey can you say happy birthday to roman please our so cool!
So what you are saying is that I should leave my clarinet in the car?
Hey Nathan, I’ve been looking to find a new alto mouthpiece but have been sitting on my hands to prevent me from buying anything until Jack starts selling his. I know the BSS tenor pieces were a huge hit so I’m waiting for those. But, if I wasn’t to wait, are there any pieces you recommend I try? I’ve been looking to maybe try a vandoren v16, I play a syos Lorenzo Ferrero right now and I do like it a lot, but I want a bit of a phatter sound, (I used to play a meyer 5 and I didn’t like the meyer 6 i tried), so do you have any recommendations for me to try?
jody jazz hr and yea the vandoren v16 is a very good choice too, really the vandoren v16s are the best/consistent mainstream mps off the shelf right now.
Better Sax Burnin mouthpiece. A lot of players love this.
JodyJazz HR Custom Dark is good if you want a fuller sound with good projection.
Jody Jazz DV has very rich harmonics and great projection, do try and test a few out
ALSO WHEN WILL DCI ALLOW ME TO MARCH TENOR SAX!!!!
Clarinetologic
Do tenors next
The Selmer Series 10 was comparable to the R13. The Series 9 was more jazz oriented. At least that's what I've always heard. I played on a 10 back in the early 80's when I was in high school.
Well there was the Series 9 and then the 9*. Then there was the 10G and the 10S. The 10G was the most "classical" since it was designed in collaboration with Anthony Gigliotti of the Philly Orchestra. The 10G is my favorite Selmer clarinet (other than the BT and early pre-BT's) because it's intonation is exceptional. Everybody seems to love the original Series 9 (more than 9*) and I love the tone but pitch always seems to be an issue.
@@DaleFedele Pitch is definitely the biggest issue with it. I can take a few notes to a tuner, and you’d laugh. But the tone is so pure and unmatched.
Leblanc clarinets are super good I love mine!
That's my to go store right next to my house
That ligature is so nice, sadly I play alto and bari sax
I dare you to buy a selmer soloist clarinet
Awesome tehktick altisimo🎶🎶🎶🎷👍
First i play bari saxophone you need to play it
Ive been there before, he helped me rent out my flute and trumpet
Not him playing Molly on the shore😭
My last name is LeBlanc, it really makes me mad when someone pronounces the "c" because the "c" is SILENT. PLEASE stop pronouncing the c.
Oops
looks like a blow dart in thumb
AWO-10 gangggg
I had a saxophone but then I changed it for a clarinet
Even squid ward is better than that guy.
🤣
