Eddie Van Halen is a guitar god amongst a pantheon of guitar legends, this is why you most likely heard these riffs on Guitar Hero. This came out in 1983 on the Album titled 1984, this was the last album with lead singer David Lee Roth aka Diamond Dave.
Son, that right there is the late great Eddie Van Halen on guitar, Michael Anthony on bass guitar, Alex Van Halen on drums and last but certainly not least is DIAMOND David Lee Roth on vocal duties! One of the most BADASS bands of the 70s, 80s and beyond! Roth was replaced later by legendary front man of the band Montrose Sammy Hagar! I am proud to be a part of that era and a Gen-X'r!!! The 80s was an amazing time in music history and you have a lot more music to listen to and experience for yourself the magic that is 80s ROCK N ROLL!!! 🤘😎👍
The Kramer guitar Eddie used in this video, just sold this past spring at auction for almost 4 million dollars. Eddie Van Halen was a goat and changed an entire generation on how guitar players played or learned the instrument.
Van Halen was the rock band that changed the rock scene when they debuted in 1978... Guitarist Edward Van Halen reinvented guitar playing and ushered in a new generation of frantic & articulate guitar players in the 80's. This was from 1984... their 6th album also titled '1984' and sold 10 million copies in the USA w/ their original vocalist David Lee Roth. Edward 'Eddie' Van Halen (guitar) and his older brother Alex Van Halen (drums) were from the Netherlands... their dad Jan Van Halen (who was a jazz musician) moved his family to California in the 1960's... Eddie and Alex loved rock n' roll music and decided to form a band as kids. Eddie could not afford a guitar, so he built one w/ parts of discarded guitars and called it the 'Frankenstein'... He and Alex played gigs in high school and backyard parties in Pasadena, California... Eddie would rent a P.A. system from another kid named David Lee Roth so that he could sing while performing. He decided it was cheaper just to hire David Lee Roth as the band's singer in 1974... Roth was not the best singer, but he could be entertaining onstage... He recognized Eddie Van Halen as a huge talent on guitar and suggested the band be named Van Halen - it sounded like a marquee name and people would come to see Eddie on guitar. Michael Anthony (bass) joined soon after and Van Halen spent years performing small local gigs. As a young guitarist, Eddie Van Halen found new techniques to play guitar and make sound effects, but was reluctant to show them off at the time... By the 80's, everyone was trying to replicate or emulate his playing style and onstage charisma. By the time Van Halen was playing L.A. clubs in 1976, there was interest from Gene Simmons of Kiss to record their demos and sign the band... but in the 70's disco/ punk rock era, no one was interested at the time. Van Halen was finally signed in 1977 and released their debut album in 1978... Eddie Van Halen's explosive guitar playing shook the rock scene, and David Lee Roth's acrobatic stage presence made him a rock star as the debut album sold 10 million copies in the US... Van Halen opened for Black Sabbath and were stealing the show every night... Roth wanted Van Halen to deliver rock music w/ guitars, vocal harmonies and grooves that fans could dance to... It made Van Halen very popular w/ the ladies. 5 albums sold platinum-plus in the US and Van Halen were the biggest American rock band for a while... Van Halen tried to break into European markets but never enjoyed the level of popularity that they had in America... They opened a UK tour for Black Sabbath in 1978 and co-headlined the UK Monsters of Rock festival in 1984 w/ AC/DC... David Lee Roth played the 1988 UK Monsters of Rock festival as a solo artist. By the time MTV launched in 1981, Van Halen got into making music videos for their 6th album '1984'... Eddie Van Halen was also playing more keyboards and synthesizers and Van Halen had a #1 single 'Jump'. However, there were tension brewing between the band and David Lee Roth... Roth could be controlling and aggravating in the studio, and Eddie Van Halen wanted to write more songs on keyboards, which Roth was opposed to... After the tour ended in 1985, David Lee Roth wanted to start a movie career and released a solo EP of covers 'Crazy from the heat', hoping to make it a big screen flick... Van Halen were not amused and soon parted ways w/ the singer as Eddie Van Halen was already writing a new Van Halen album. Vocalist Sammy Hagar joined Van Halen in 1986 and the band found more success w/ a new singer, scoring 4 albums at #1 on the US charts from 1986 to 1996... Unfortunately, egos clashed and Sammy Hagar was out of Van Halen in '96... They released 1 album ('Van Halen III' in 1998) w/ vocalist Gary Cherone of the band Extreme. A reunion w/ David Lee Roth on vocals finally came in 2007, but they only released 1 new album in 20 years w/ Roth. In 2020, Eddie Van Halen passed away after a long battle w/ cancer (R.I.P.)... Van Halen has been effectively over without him.
Well done mate. Growing up in the late ’s and 80’s was amazing for music . Van Halen has a massive catalog; , enjoy it all. My boy Odin here, has a great ear. He recommends “Fool In The Rain” Led Zeppelin “Interstate Love Song” Official Video version Stone Temple Pilots- “Police On My Back” By The Clash. “Paradise City” Official Video Guns’n Roses It’s an era endless bad ass bands and music to chooser from
1984. As far as videos go, you can check out Panama and/or Jump. All of those songs came off the same album, titled 1984 in...you guessed it, the same year. VH hit the scene in 78 and there aren't too many videos for their first two albums since MTV was not yet a thing. What you really need tho, since you have gotten somewhat of an intro into the band is to check out Eddie Van Halen, Eruption guitar solo, live in 1986. It is 13 minutes long, but to understand why Van Halen changed the face of the music scene in 78, you definitely need to watch Eddie do his magic.
Dude I just started watching your videos. Think I've watched seven or eight now. You have so much to learn. I'm 64, And I've been going to concerts since I was 14. An absolutely love rock and roll of all kinds. I've been to probably 400 plus concerts and still go constantly. You have so much to learn grasshopper. 😂
You need to watch Eddie Van Halen's Eruption guitar solo from their without a net tour. It will leave you speechless and wondering how does he do that!!! We kiss you King Edward!!
Holy crap ! It’s from the “1984” album. I went to the concert. Alex Van Halen is one of the most underrated drummers. This song was Alex’s solo song. Oh my god. He played so fast it sounded like one continuous note. We went so fast and with his double foot pedal. Just amazing never heard anything like it. Michael Anthony did his bass solo. He threw it from the top of a mountain of speakers. When it hit the stage, it was so loud the steel in the dome of the Colosseum started to shake. Then he jumped into the air doing the splits then landing on the bass with both feet. My knees buckled from the sound waves. Honestly I couldn’t hear for 3 days. My ears rang for 3 days. I’m 57 now and my ears ring constantly like that 3 days
The David Lee Roth era of Van Halen is the absolute best!! So much fun in the music, the attitude and the vocals of DLR and bassist Michael Anthony. You will love those albums.
You've just been introduced to King Edward Van Halen on guitar and Alexander "the great" Van Halen on drums. This band was pivotal for the rise of guitar techniques, sound and looks in 80's heavy metal. 🤘😠 They are a late 1970's band. But they did they're "jump" to stardom right from their first album. They hail from Pasadena, California. Rest in peace Eddie.
This was on the album 1984, released in 1984. Was their first album to top the charts, then singer David Lee Roth decided to quit, but the band made a great move and hired Sammy Hagar, who brought new life to the band.
broooo you got so much Van Halen to listen to that you will love, can’t wait to see it. i’m sure that whole self titled first album will blow you away based on what I’ve seen from your Metallica reactions 🤘
This kind of well-produced video that tells a story is almost always going to be from the '80s, when MTV became a thing. Stuff from the '70s will usually be footage of the band performing. (Although of course videos of a band performing could also be from later, but this type of video is rarely from earlier.)
My very first concert was Van Halen in New Mexico Circa 1979 - I think it was VH3 tour. I was in the very top row, the air was full of smoke (the good kind) and Eddie had his red and white axe while DLR was throwing kicks above his head and climbing up the Marshall stack with a bottle of Jack Daniels being consumed rapidly! RIP EDDIE THE GREAT - My favorite track of theirs is Mean Streets and Running with the Devil always kicks ass too!
Van Halen hit mainstream in '78, but had been on the pasadena circuit since 74-75 (?) doing backyard parties and local clubs. Hot For Teacher was off their 1984 album. The concept of the song / video is that alot of boys hitting puberty had crushes on attractive teachers.
I’m always checking for new VH reactions and I’m glad I came across this one. Do yourself a favor and check out the entire Van Halen 1 album. Not one bad song on it. Would be nice to get a an entire album reaction too.
🎶♥️Saw VAN HALEN in 1983, JAMS ARE EPIC, ONE OF OUR ICONIC ROCK BANDS FOR SURE… MUST DO SOME MORE WITH DAVID LEE ROTH AS LEAD SINGER. EDWARD VAN HALEN♥️R.I.P., created his own guitar 🎸 ♥️
OMG😂 My mother yelled at me for watching this video in the 80s💀 Van Halen always had a long elaborate music videos. California Gurls was another video that had a long entrance.
If you haven't seen other reactions to it yet I highly recommend checking out Eddie Van Halen's live Eruption solo from their Live Without A Net concert. The man is pretty scary on guitar, and that was you get to see him do his thing live.
Eddie Van Halen is on my guitar Mt Rushmore with David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, Jimi FRIGGIN Hendrix, and Stevie Ray Vaughan! Eddie created a playing style called hammer on and off which is where instead of strumming the strings with the pick he taps on the strings will fingering the frets. And this one came out in I think 84
After David Lee Roth left the band Sammy Hagar became their lead vocalist and you need to their newer songs like " Poundcake " and anything from their "5150" album. Eddie was "The guitar God " according to Guitar Magazine. He started more kids to want to play the guitar than any other guitarist that has ever lived!!!
I just found this. Welcome to Van Halen!!!!! Please go down that rabbit hole!!!! It’s so worth it if I think 🤔 you’re who I think you are!!!! Just like AC/DC you won’t be disappointed!!!!! So says Austin Tx!!!! 🤣🤣🥳🤘😎🍸 PS if you like F1 racing feel free to watch Sky Sports in your home this weekend!!!! We have the F1 series this weekend on our own purpose built racing track and it is always a hoot!!!! Just saying!!!! 😊😊🤣🤣🥳❤️😎🍸

Everyone always goes off about the guitar on this song (deservedly so), but keeping that straight two up high and swinging the double kick for that long without tripping over yourself is NOT easy
lol, we HAD a teacher like that, but she never stripped down like that (more's the pity), but she was caught playing with herself in class one day and unfortunately that was the end of that (we were an all boys school!!!!)
Ah yes school buses in America. Where most of the bullying took place. Ah memories. I’ll leave out weather I was giver or the recipient of said bullying.

Waldo's Mom moaning at the begining could be that he is getting to the age that he's becoming uncomfortable with her doting but we always figured she was just trying to get him sent off to school before the mail man showed up. Lol!

🎶 "I think of all the education that I've missed... but then my homework was never quite like this!" 🎶
Waldo's voice at the beginning is the late great Phil Hartman.
Atomic punk has always been my fav❤

You want to hear one of the best guitarist ever. Listen to eruption from Van Halen. Do it now. The longer you wait, the more you will kick yourself for not listening to it earlier.
Check out Drop Dead Legs from that album. Killer groove, badass bass and awesome guitar work.
Everyone always goes off about the guitar on this song (deservedly so), but keeping that straight two up high and swinging the double kick for that long without tripping over yourself is NOT easy
I got to see this tour for my first VH tour. 1984
You should watch his son wolfie with dave grohl do this song. Rhey just did a tribute to Him recently. His son played his dads solo perfectly !
One of my favorites of theirs is Ice Cream Man
Having a teacher like that I would never miss that class but then again I’d never pass that class either
David lee roth had a fantastic sense of humour.
You need to hear early Van Halen. 1978-1984

It’s not that it went right over my head, it just wasn’t that funny
Eruption and You Really Got Me off of Van Halen 1
Another Van Halen song you will like is Panama
There were a lot of teenie boppers for whom David Lee Roth was all it.
Time for more AC/DC . "Whole Lotta Rosie" (Live from River Plate)
🙏RIP EDDIE🙏
Steel Panther! Doesn't matter which one.
lol, we HAD a teacher like that, but she never stripped down like that (more's the pity), but she was caught playing with herself in class one day and unfortunately that was the end of that (we were an all boys school!!!!)
I was a young teen when this came out.
I wish younger people cared about the classics as we did
