I use my Cricut all the time for English paper piecing. Its great for appliqué as you can cut out the appliqué fabric too. It’s paid for itself in what I’ve saved on papers for EPP. I also use it to cut fabric stencils out of template plastic that I can use with my rotary cutter. These are for EPP but can also be for appliqué, like Lori Holts templates for many of her quilts. If you need to trim a quilt block to a specific size or shape you can cut a template for it. There is a free version of design space you don’t need to pay a subscription fee. You can also use the silhouette design program which is a one off fee. I haven’t actually used my Cricut to cut vinyl apart from the initial piece you do during set up!

I can see how it would be useful for those types of sewing, but I don't do much quilting or appliqué

I love my Cricut Maker and the JoyXtra. I use it for many things, but when it comes to sewing, I use it for appliqués, cutting strips for small to medium size quilted accessories, I currently have a 10 inch round pillow that I’m making an embroidered cover for it-I’m using the cricut to cut the template. It’s very versatile. The subscription is for Cricut Access which includes discounts on supplies and machines. I’m not affiliated with Cricut, just enjoy exploring it’s many uses.

I enjoy my machine, but I don't do much of those types of sewing so it's not helpful in my sewing

I use it to cut material for microwave bowl cozy and small things like that. It comes in handy if you have trouble using scissors for small things.

I use Accuquilt instead of my cricut. The heat press is a good investment.

I did end up buying the heat press - it's good for interfacing too.

I have the Cricut Explore. The subscription for the Cricut software is optional. Cricut Design Space is free to use and has a ton of projects and designs. Some are free and some you very inexpensive, i.e. $.99 per design. I use my Cricut for vinyl and for paper projects. I also do card making and it comes in handy for cutting pieces to layer if I don't want to purchase a cutting die for my die cutting machine. It can be expensive, but I also have access to a vinyl warehouse which has a great variety of printed and solid iron on and sign vinyl. It just depends on what you as to whether the Cricut or similar cutting machines are worth it. I have not used mine to cut fabric.

Yes, it's definitely a personal decision

I won’t buy a cricut, because I don’t want to pay any subscriptions.

I don't pay for any subscriptions with Cricut, but if you don't design your own stuff that would be necessary.

The brother scan and cut SDX 125e is best for the sewing community. Dumped my cricut long ago. Not interested in being a part of that cult any longer.

I think any cutting machine has limited uses for specific types of sewing.
