Tim Alexander has such a unique drum sound, as well as a great rhythmic approach. His groove is insane!

Herb is my favorite drummer of all time but I think a name being lost in this "best" discussion is Thomas Hakke from Messhuggah. That dude is as skilled as any drummer to ever walk the face of the planet.

You dont speak of other drummers here

Thomas Haake is skilled in a very specific, narrow field: polyrhythmic double bass drumming. He says himself he doesnt practice, he does the job he is meant to do. Herb has more drum skills to his bow: percussion, jazz fusion as well as funk-rock and metal. The cool thing about Haake is he writes music and lyrics in a successful band which is pretty rare for a drummer.

@@bartilliak That's right. He doesn't. There are some other guys who know their job, too.
Tim Alexander is great. No doubt about that.
But let us mention Dave Lombardo. Slayer.
He definitely is one of the very best drummers these days. Top five or better.

Very cool. I used to be drum tech for Jerry Gaskill of King's X. I wish I would have recorded some vids like this. Very cool, bro.

I saw Primus a year ago and I'm going to see Tool in a couple weeks. I think both Danney and Tim are superb drummers, but they cannot be compared to one another.

    Tim isn’t a drummer, he’s not a percussionist, he’s a god

When it come to drummers, you can't say that one guy is definitely better than the other. All you can do is name a top 5-6 and Herb is definitely in it. Buddy Rich is probably the best of all time though, if I had to choose one. I love Carey though. The little bongo part he plays on "Right in Two" is so fuckin sick. Herb is my favorite because of his beats, not technical shit. LOVE Primus

I Think Danny Carrey has more technique, as he is inspired by indian music, and tabla. But Tim Alexander creations are much créatives, and originals, I like them both, i like primus and tool both too.

For all of those double kickin death metal drummers and wannabes alike... Take notes, learn some finesse and learn how to play your ENTIRE 30 piece kit and not just 5-7 pieces of it per song.... You've got a long ways to go boys... Herb has been bangin this shit out since the 80's!!!

I agree. This solo is kind of obtuse. I wouldn't doubt Alexander's capacity to groove or support a band, however. He's an incredible drummer with nothing to prove. Oh and he's playing the quads with a right hand lead. :)

  • @Linixion
    @Linixion 16 років тому

Danny and Tim are too different and are at two different musical levels for their own purposes, they can't be compared, in my opinion. I agree with Mr prasiddha that all of you people are way too competitive about "who is better."

    LRFF, we get it.
Rock solos are hard to listen to.
This says nothing about his capacity to groove or support a band.
