Director:
I was born the year of this album and my dad would always play it for me. Remains to this day my favorite afi song
You dad was a young man of good taste 😎
I'm probably your dad's age...I was 19 when this album came out. The first record I ever got of theirs was black sails....& for a few years they were my favorite band, up thru sing the Sorrow. After that they became a completely different band & I checked out on them
Back in the 90s we used to skate around saying “We’ve got a vollllllvooooo”
That's awesome 😂
IVE got a volvoo!
90s, awesome
Yongafi,nice
Thiswas1clip,backintheir punkdays
Best video based on the best movie ever.
I love this song
No need to say I dont love them now
Back when they were actually punk rock :]
I love them now too, but their old stuff was the best
I love Davey's hair lol
For all the haters.... Since the video is called 'He Who Laughs Last', I thought I'd point this out:
You can keep talking shit about AFI, but no matter what, they're always going to be better than those who are low enough to talk shit about people they don't know. They aren't leaving the music scene. The band is strong, their fans are strong, and they'll still be playing music regardless of what you say.
To me, it seems like AFI has the last laugh in this debate.
@poisoncupcake74 i totally agree. Afi is so awesome. i love the constant change.
@TheRealFIREINSIDE Nice! I was actually listening to that earlier today!
I LOVE AFI XD
You're the -exact- point I was trying to make with my comment. Personally, I don't care what you think, so, to me, it's worthless to argue. Take care.
Asking For It > A Fire Inside
Great song, video makes me crave ketchup
That wasn't a personal attack, but are you always like this? I listen to their old music, and I do notice the difference, but I also appreciate music, and unless it sounds bad, or doesn't mix, it doesn't suck.
God, I wish AFI still wrote and sounded like this! jesus
When they find huge success with a certain sound and stick to it then they will have truly sold out. AFI is ever-changing. Change and quality is the only constant over all these years.
Davey Havok is still hardcore, and Straight Edge, as fuck.
Look up "Ceremony- Straight Edge Revenge" on UA-cam. Shit is sick.
Apparently you don't get it because you've never seen the movie Goodfellas. It's basically exactly like the movie.
I saw a show flier once of afi greenday operation ivy and dead kennedys.
After watching the intro i feel like if havok met his future self he'd punch him right in the balls.
He would feel dissapointed for sure and not only punch him but kick him in the ass
;)
Hmmm I dunno, man. I think if he had stayed the same person without growing or changing it would be much, much sadder. I love all of AFI's eras. :)
Madelaine Raye haha yea i gotya i was just makin a joke. I just happen to prefer afi's punk years but yea thats why music is awesome theres something out there for everyone.
LIke the part when he's sucking on a lollipop?
I loved them for a few yrs before I got to see them. They were at warped tour and I was expecting this Davey, not the vinyl black pants and purple fishnet shirt. No my Davey.
It's davey and the old members of afi. before jade and im not sure about hunter and adam. but yeah, this is essentially afi.
correct
Original AFI was so GOATED. So heavy, so brutal, then they went full emo lmao but whatever
says the guy who misused the word "there" --- it's their --- if you can't even get that right, don't presume to tell me about this band.
@redeyesthe20th if you havent appeared on the cover of rollingstone magazine, then your not a sellout
@megamage800 Yeah, it probably took months for them to write all these songs, so it's only natural to progress...and then someone listens to the album in like 30 minutes or less and just wants more of the same! Point of view.
@xyakovx
indeed
agnostic front has make the same music for 30 years.
davey used to be straightedge now he's nothin but a trendy metro
@gcspgurl28 amen
Thank god Adam wasn't driving, he probably wouldn't driven head on into an army truck
This is the song that got me into AFI. Where did all the punk go?
exactly!
it died or it went emo
Its in your moms bed
I think Davey wanted to make music that chicks would dig... that's my only guess. I quit being interested in anything they've made after Sing the Sorrow. Not that my opinion matters, bc they are still selling out shows, so people still like what they do.
They put the mask on and never looked back.
How I wish they still sounded like this. ): I've been listening to them since I was like 8
cinema beer nuts
+ichiban308 Hells Yes!!!
exactly! they were fucking kids when they released very proud, people grow up and change- and their music matures with it
God, someone with a brain, thank you!
This is the OG AFI. Now listen and experience true punk rock.
I'm just recently getting into their old stuff. Legit, forever I just new them as that emo band that did Miss Murder.
@@jesserogalski1402 nooo, noooo. Do not judge them off that!
@@brittanywiessler3096 I think they've always been good but you're probably right that I wouldn't have given their later tunes a try if I hadn't been into them from the start. I'm sorta a hardcore snob.
@@jesserogalski1402 for me Afi is such an underrated band. They managed to pull off every genre they get into. Hardcorepunk, skate punk, horror punk, post hardcore, emo, post punk, goth rock, alternative rock. They just never miss
Fuck these old AFI records make me wanna pick up my bass. Nothing more fun to play than punk bass.
Most tragic change to a band ever made, man these guys were good.
Back when AFI had balls n made decent punk rock music
I thought they initially transitioned really well into a commercial sound with Sing the Sorrow. Still rooted in punk, but with some killer pop melodies. But yeah everything after that's been pretty bleh. I won't say sell out. You have to let bands evolve. The Cure and the Talking Heads started off as punk bands too, but all their best work (in the Talking Heads case ALL of their studio work) was released after they branched out. I don't think I want to hear 40 year old AFI still playing hardcore music. I'm just not into it personally. A little too bland for me.
I like ALL AFI music. I don't care what anyone says they didn't sell out.
They just changed
Now go get your fuckin shinebox!
The last hour I've been going through all these old AFI songs, all I want to do is skateboard and scream at the top of my lungs like back in the day. What happened to the good times...?!?
This is the afi i love, cant forget this old punk scene they used to be considered horror punk..love it
o and i forgot to mention The Art of Drowing when they were still on nitro...what about days of the pheonix vid?
I'm 34 and I became a fan of AFI when I was 30. The first album I heard was sing the sorrow. I like all of their stuff. No one can say you aren't a "true afi fan" if you like the new stuff. I like all of it. No one made them the AFI fan police so if you like any of their music you are a true fan. Stupid people often hand out in large groups and say stupid things. They are there to amuse people like us who really know what is going on. Rock on guys!
Facts!!! Ive loved them forever and this is so true
afi never sold out they simply hate the idea of writing the same records over and over . they are successful , but they never compromised thier artistic integrity they never sat down and said the record company said we should make this record because this is what is selling...I am not at all a fan of the crash love record or most of december underground but I don't think they sold out.
Loved Very Proud of Ya. Definitely a hardcore punk classic. I can always go back and bump that shit and never get sick of it, haha.
Fuck the notion that I should stop listening to AFI because I hate the new albums. I like OLD AFI, and if you have a problem with me (or anyone who shares my opinion) voicing my views on how utterly boring & anticlimactic the new AFI is to me, then maybe I'm not the one who should stop listening to the band. Burials (and pretty much anything since 2001) is among the most disappointing albums I've heard in awhile, and I'm just as within my right to say how shit it is, as you are to say how much you like it. I just like to pretend they broke up right after STS.
Don't get me wrong, but their not 20 year olds anymore. Burials is a mature rock record, and anything before Sing The Sorrow is amazing.
But their not going to sing about Brownies and Mohawks anymore.
i like old afi too.... i just like old hardcore and punk
***** I grew up with albums like Shut your mouth and Black Sails bro
AFI has never been popular. They are far from sellouts. AFI is barely known outside US. I have never seen AFI record in store.
Again, the new album may not be good to you but it is to other people, including people who have liked AFI from the start.
@deathbypowerglove
I looked up music. I follow music. Following a band or group no matter how their music changes is akin to following religion or cult blindly. They changed and in my eyes suck.
It would be good to see them live playing their old stuff. But if they were to break up right now I wouldn't be upset or concerned since their new stuff really is crap.
you know wat?? who the hell cares if they've changed!!! They're still amazing guys and awesome at what they do so for any 'real afi fans' that hate them now they can just piss off... AFI4life
As Far Back As I Can Remember I Always Wanted To Be In A Hardcore Band--Davey Havock Man i love this video hell ive seen Nwa music videos that dont have shit on this makes me want to throw down in the pit
@selftelevision
It's called an homage.

Well I've been doing reasearch and from what I've heard both New and Old AFI are great and I'm actually amazed at how Heavy and Hardcore they used to be,
But I do enjoy MM and SS, I also own the special Two Disc album of Crash Love.
I listen to AFI Religously and Davy Havok is one of my favorite Singers.
I do agree that some change is needed to keep a band going. Pennywise is a good example of becoming repetitive both lyrically and musically. But, AFI's drastic change is so far from their beginnings that it has alienated many (most?) older fans. (I dont know a single person who isnt an eleventeen year old that doesnt agree) I come from a 90s punk background, NOFX,Pennywise,Strung Out,Offspring,Bad Religion etc. AFI is now seen as a joke within the punk, hardcore scene. Sad but ultimately true.
2019 and it feels like the first time I heard this!
By the way this song is awesome
At the beginning he reminds me a little bit of Edward Sciccorhands :-D
I love the goodfella's reference for the whole video XD
Love afi, even their new stuff.
i remember when i first heard this song. i became obsessed with them for years.
wtf?
In 99 al emos are 2 or 3 years old.
And AFI isnt an EMO Band
I had a VHS that had the recording of them making this video, can't remember where or how I got the video... I think Blink was on it too.
I have that one as well.
Andy Munoz I had it too
Afi90svideo!
Cool then,and legends now
I had it too
The last true "punk" CD was "Very Proud of Ya." "Shut your mouth" Came out and that was when the lyrics got dark and emo-ish. Black Sails was around when Davey got cornrows and slower songs were introduced. By the time Sing the Sorrow rolled around it was natural. They evolved. Davey always wore make-up. He's wearing it at the beginning of this video.
You forgot about all
Hollows ep which was before black sails
And was when they made the transition into goth rock
ohmahguh!!! i love this video!!! whats with almost every vid of afi daveys dying...that would suck!!! i like how davey (in the begining of the vid) says hardcore band and now theyre not so hardcore!! haha! its okay im still holdin out till they go back to their old hardcore selves again!!!! i love a.f.i forever and always!!!!
I do all the time! While im driving to work, at work, or at home. I always start on answer that and stay fashionable and just go through all the albums up to art of drowning or sometimes sing the sorrow
They need to change the opening of this video to for as long as I can remember I wanted to be in a hardcore band . . . Until I took an arrow in the knee :D sorry for the previous comment, iPad
I never knew AFI was around for this long! They're still fucking awesome. :D
Back when AFI were good...
they are still good, this is when they were great
2019
Good old days of this band.
20 people are justin bieber fans
Touche
This music video has confused and haunted me for so long and I just watched goodfellas for the first time and now everything makes so much more sense
I searched this as AFI Good Fellas
I don't care that they changed alot, their new music is still pretty cool!, in fact i think its good, i can now listen to them no matter what mood i may be in lol
This is true as fuck !!!!
All those "sellout"-comments...if you really loved the band you would support their unique development. No one says you should like what they are doing now but there's NO band like A.F.I., neither back in the days nor now.
You took the words right out of my mouth. I love all of there albums.
Is it me or this whole "sell out" crap is really getting annoying?
So you'd still like them if they made hip hop or techno? I like punk, not whiny emo bitch music.
dreamseller01 I'd *ABSOLUTELY* STILL love them
@@Arycke 😂 I actually really liked Blaqk Audio. I like all of AFI's music throughout the years as well.
@madmaestro2021 Okay I respect your opinions. =) But can you answer me this question: Have you ever listened to a My Chemical Romance song?
Fall out Boy i don't really care about, but MCR is my favourite band.
@xyakovx I'll be honest, I really only like their stuff from Black Sails on. Not that my opinion really matters here, I think their best two albums were Black Sails and The Art of Drowning.
@madmaestro2021 My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy are NOT "popularized trash"!!!!!! They are both awesome bands with touching and motivating, kickass songs.
Still adore them! 15 years later :)
+Olive Von Katzen 20 years later you mean
I only started listening to them 15 years ago.
***** aiight holmes
20yrs later, interesting video, love, how theirclips always shareastory
@AFIfan96 I agree AFI is awesome, but I saw someone dissing my favourite bands so I had to defend them LOL x)
"as far back as i can remember, ive always wanted to be in a hardcore band."
SO WHY ARE THEY J-ROCK NOW?!
🤘🤘
HOW DARE THEY KILL DAVEY?!?!
Anyway, I hate when people say that AFI should've kept making their old music. Seriously, do you really think that they would make the same type of music for 20 years straight? I personally love both their old and new music. They're both good in their own ways. Think back to when you were 7. Haven't you changed? See you've changed and matured, so why can't AFI mature as well? They're not sell outs for making the music they wanna make. DEAL WITH IT.
really you cant see why an o.g hardcore punk like myself hates the trendy poser emo girly makeup wearing lalala little girl fan having emo pandering afi..i like hardcore punk there are only 3 legitimate forms of punk hardcore/straightedge/anarchist..emo is not one of them emo is a mainstream image driven top 40 hits music trendy posser bullshit i hope he goes back to the rea stuff..if your guitar parts sound the same or your songs start to sound alike then you get new members not sellout
@oomgloff2 Of course anyone has that right to hate their new shit. They are two different genres of obvious conflicting tastes and the this song alone shows the obvious hypocrisy that is new "AFI" when Havok says "As far back as I can remember- I always wanted to be in a hardcore band."
@rickysucksabunch -I don't think there's anything as fans can do to change their style of music back to the way it used to be except to identify a good hardcore/punk band that's starting out and support them so they won't have to change their music to sell albums.
oh i got a hardcore band and the sit that happened with asking for it post last hardcore album really made me hate america just a little more than i did living there at the time i grew tired of american fakeness and the tendencies to sellout and i came to my kanuck home
lol open minded is an excuse be real chika.and besides of course you wouldn't understand why i'm doing this you lack the testo-mindset.your girl im a guy.and i don't argue with chicks theres too much of a difference.
This song reminds me of cruising in my friends car 12 years ago blasting some Very Proud of Ya!
well they where pretty hardcore back in the days, they're a bunch of fashion silly girls right now, but they records before sing the sorrow were pretty fucking awesome
@Tarttelinknot666 Answer that and Stay Fashionable, Very Proud of Ya, Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes and sort of Black Sails in The Sunset.
afi needs to go back to music like this i love this song
@l7l7l Umm... Look up Beautiful Thieves by AFI. Their look changed. And yes, Davey is still the lead singer.
no its called selling out progression is just a dressed up word for being a sellout an inconsistent sellout
I still remember this song!!!!!
poor ,,,,,, davey........what happened with adam it was crazy .,how did he kill,,davey :(
nope its a life lesson don't offer kids drugs or booze.there are consequences in life.
its called having free speech guy i can say whatever the fuck i want about sellouts
I wish they'd stopped before sing the sorrow and everything that followed :/
